Upgrading Exchange 2013 to SP1

I have 3 Exchange 2013 servers in my environment. Each server is a CAS and Mailbox server. Each server is also setup in a DAG. I want to update them to SP1 and am a little confused on the upgrade process. Can I just install SP1 on one server at a time
or do I need to make special considerations on which server gets upgraded first? What about the DAG? Thanks.

Hi Will,
Before you install the SP1 you should consider:
Make sure that you have a valid and tested backup of you Exchange Server, Mailbox Database(s) and Active Directory
Make sure that all third-party vendors that you use on your environment support the Service Pack 1
Make sure that there are no backup jobs running the upgrade process
Stop all backup services; and third-party services, such as System Center Operations Manager and so forth
Make sure that you don’t have any pending restart due Windows Updates and/or previous roles/features installed on the server
If you have a DAG then it is important to put the server in maintenance mode
For further info in performing maintenance on DAG Members
here
After all considerations you should update to SP1 after you download it you can run the update from command line o run the setup.
Hope it helps.

  • Unread Emails in Outlook 2010 Clients shows both UNREAD AND READ emails when connected to Exchange 2013 Server SP1

We recently upgraded to Exchange 2013 SP1 with a client user-base of Office 2010 Professional Plus / Outlook 2010 SP3.
All Unread Email favorites folders show both Unread and Read emails, just like the inbox. Removal of the folder and recreating yields the same results, as does creating a custom folder. However, in Outlook 2013 there is no problem.
Is there a patch or hot fix for this issue? Or does anyone know how to fix this issue so that the UNREAD EMAILS SHOW UP IN THE UNREAD FOLDER AND NOT INCLUDE THE READ EMAILS?
    Thank you!

    Go down to Search Folders
    - Right click on Search Folders and create New Search Folder leave default "Unread Mail1" and click OK
    - Right click on the new “Unread Mail1” folder and choose “Customize this search folder”
    - Click on Browse
    - Select the checkbox for “Search subfolders”
    - Press OK and OK again.
    - Right click on old "Unread Mail" Folder and delete.

  • Exchange 2013 or SP1 Installaing Single CAS Role not installaing EWS virtual directory in mixed environment

    Hi Experts,
I am facing issue while installing exchange 2013 sp1 in mixed(2007, 2010 and 2013) environment, the issue is: CAS role not installing/configuring "Echangeweb" (ews) virtual directory if i install only CAS role. If i install CAS role and mailbox
role then there is no issue, everything is fine.
In single CAS role installation, "EWS" folder is creating inside "Exchangeweb" folder but it shows empty folder.
If any one have any idea please let me know, why this is happening? was i am doing anything wrong while installing?

    Hi Ravi,
Agree with Martina. I install Exchange 2013 CAS server and Mailbox server separately. "exchweb" folder exists on Mailbox server only. Here is the exchweb folder information on Mailbox server for your reference.
Here is the ews folder information on CAS server for your reference.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to upgrade Exchange 2013 host OS to Server 2012 R2

Currently in our environment we have Exchange 2013 (Client Access and Mailbox on one server) (no service pack) built on Server 2012 machine. I'd like to rebuild the Exchange server on a new Server 2012 R2 machine. Are there any automated tools for transferring
client access configuration(accepted domains, connectors, etc) and can I just unmount the databases from the current server and mount them on the new, or do i have to create new mailbox databases and migrate the mailboxes? Do you guys know any tutorials for
    this scenario? Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
You need to setup a new Exchange 2013 SP1 or later version on Windows server 2012 R2 at first.
Secondly, migrate all the mailboxes from old Exchange 2013 to the new Exchange 2013.
    Thirdly, change the mail flow.
At last, when everything is ok on new Exchange 2013, you can decommission the old Exchange.
For more information, here is a thread about migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 for your reference.

  • Installing / Upgrading Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2010 with a o365 Hybrid environment

    Hi
I am trying to install a new server with Exchange  2013 on an environment with an existing Exchange 2010 Sp3. Reason for that is that I have a o365 hybrid environment and need to disconnect my on-line and on-premise e-mail connection. I want to completely
run all my mailboxes on o365 no-longer dependent on on-premise exchange but the Exchange 2010 doesn't have a functionality to 'dismantle' the hybrid.. we need to have exchange 2013.
When I try to install Exchange 2013 I get an error message that I need to upgrade my o365 tenant. : my o365 tenant version is : AdminDisplayVersion : 0.20 (15.1.49.12) :IsUpgradingOrganisation : False.
Is there a better way of updating my environment.
    Regards

Post the error from setup log for more information.

  • No premium OWA for IE11 with new install of Exchange 2013 w/sp1

We just installed Exchange Server 2013 with sp1 included. Everything is good except IE11 users don't get the premium OWA site. I know that this was fixed in CU3, but you can't install it because SP1 is supposed to contain all the fixes through CU3.
    Does anyone have any idea?

There's nothing wrong with the server.
I have LAB environment also and OWA will show as legacy client rather Exchange 2013.
I would suggest the same I suggested before... Uninstall IE11 and install IE10
Also the windows Update has to be UpToDate

How do I update the cluster of mailboxes, the resources on the active node and update it, or liability?
There's something I have to take intoaccount before upgrading?

  • Cannot Adding Mailbox Server for Database Copy for Exchange 2013 SP1

Before I upgraded to 2013 SP1 everything works find but after I upgrade to SP1 I cannot add database copy. the details are...
    I have 2 sites
    Site 1 : 4 Mailboxes (Mailbox01,Mailbox02,Mailbox03,Mailbox04)   + 2 CAS
    Site 2 : 2 Mailboxes (Mailbox05,Mailbox06)   + 2 CAS  (just for standby site)
So I have 2 DAG group  (6 Mailboxes separate to 3 Mailboxes for 1 DAG group Mailbox01,Mailbox02,Mailbox05 for DAG1  and Mailbox03,Mailbox04,Mailbox06 for DAG2)
After I upgrade Exchange 2013 to SP1 , I try to create new database on Mailbox01 and after that I try to add mailbox02 and mailbox05 to database copy of new database that I created.
"Mailbox05 can added to be database copy but Mailbox02 cannot add database copy for it , Error "Network path not found" occur" but Im very sure that path is the same for each mailbox database server.
so I try to create new database on Mailbox 03 and add database copy on mailbox04 and mailbox06.... the result is the same only Mailbox06 can add mailbox copy of database.
It look like I cannot have 2 mailbox in site 1 for database copy of each new database (I already try to create new database on Mailbox 02 and add database copy on mailbox01 and mailbox05 , the result is only mailbox05 can be database copy of database).
Please help me to fix this out.

    Hi,
I recommend you check if the Remote Registry service is running on Mailbox01, Mailbox02, Mailbox03 and Mailbox04. If not, please start it and then add mailbox database copy to check the result.

  • Exchange 2013 CU5 , Exchange Power Shell very very very slow reasponse when using get command.

Exchange 2013 CU5 , Exchange Power Shell very very very slow reasponse when using get command.
First my organize has Exchange on 2 site like
    site A (internet facing) : 2CAS 2 MB all are Services pack1
site B (DR Site , no user active on this site) : 2CAS 2MB all are Services pack 1
so today I upgrade Exchange 2013 from SP1 to CU5 start on "site B" and I found this issue and the details is....
When I open EMS on any CU5 for query something (like get-mailboxdatabasecopystatus) the response return very slow and some query will not return at all (like get-owavirtualdirectory).
But If I using EMS on SP1. Everything is ok then I try to use EMS on SP1 connect to CU5 and try to query something. the result is
some query command cannot return for any result that are server on siteB (just some query command)
    Problem
EMS on CU5 return very slow result.
    EMS on SP1 still ok.
Does anyone face this problem before for CU5??? Please help me figure this out. Thank you
    reply from Social.technet

    Hi,
Have you used the above cmdlets to check your Exchange server health?
"all other command that I ran on EMS didn't logged on event viewer.", my environment is the same with you. I use Exchange 2013, only errors will be displayed in MSExchange Management. Actually, it is not related to slow EMS response.
    Hope it helps.

  • Setup Error 1603 with Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hello all,
i've started the installation of a new Exchange 2013 with SP1 in a Windows 2012 R2 environment. New AD, no Exchange previously installed. Exchange ISO from
Volume Licensing Service Center (Filename: SW_DVD9_Exchange_Svr_2013w_SP1_MultiLang_Std_Ent_MLF_X19-35118.iso)
All the prerequisites are ok, installed also the “Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) 4.0″ as requested.
Setup.exe i've started with "run as administrator" and all went well, until Step 11 of 15 (Mailbox role:Mailbox service).
Setup stopped and gives an error:

Exchange ECP is not working (HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found), EMS (Shell) is working - if i try a get-mailboxserver it gives me the correct servername.

    Thanks for your help
    Bruno

    Hi,
From the error message, the cabinet file 'EngineInstanceData.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. I'm afraid you have to download a new ISO for Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 and run the setup again.
If it still doesn't work, I recommend you remove the failed Exchange server installation, then re-install Exchange server.

  • Recipient verification on Exchange 2013 SP1

    Hello,
we use 3rd party tool for antispam and I'm unable to configure recipient verification on Exchange 2013 with SP1.
Basically i have done all steps described in article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125187.aspx and still i am able to send mail to non existent users (Exchange sends NDR)

My problem is that mail gets in queue even i don't wanna this to happen.
Any advice is more then welcome.

    Hello,
well, we don't use Edge transport, we use 3rd party tool.
    here is link from them:
    http://helpdesk.spamtitan.com/support/articles/95349-recipient
    important part:
"Once Recipient Filtering is enabled log on to the SpamTitan web interface. Browse to System Setup->Mail Relay->Domains.  Edit a domain and select "Dynamic Verification" and enter your mail server IP as the Verification Server.
This will allow SpamTitan to verify the recipient addresses of all incoming mail.
Any mail addresses to invalid addresses will be dropped.  This will aid the spam block rate and keep your daily license usage count accurate."
But here is not issue with Spamtitan, it is with Exchange itself because i try to make it work via telnet session.
    I'm using scripts:
    Set-RecipientFilterConfig -Enabled $trueSet-RecipientFilterConfig -BlockListEnabled $trueSet-RecipientFilterConfig -RecipientValidationEnabled $true

  • Exchange 2013 Sp1 some users cant access owa

After I install new exchange 2013 with sp1 on windows 2012 R2 server one for mail boxes and the second Client Access, i move all mail boxes to it, then i uninstall  the old server (exchange 213 with cu3).
All may exchange server’s virtual machines on hyper-v 2012R2
I install certificate and configure virtual directories
I notice some users can’t open there mail boxes from OWA they get a blank page after the enter username and password (from internal and external) (the same users can open outlook anywhere) at the same times many users can access owa.
After many restarts they can access OWA.
After some days some other users can’t access owa.
I remove ECP and OWA virtual directories, Then Recreate and configure it.
But the same problem some users cant access owa
I install a new client access server, configure it
    But the same problem

    HI
YOu can check below things to resolve the problem
Disable SSL from Default Web Site if you have enabled them
Check if you have set any redirection in the Default Website if so remove redirection and see the results
Ensure that you have a valid certificate for owa VD
check correctly the authentication type - windows authentication is enabled or if you have form based authentication enabled
Below is an example for enabling WA
    set-Owavirtualdirectory -identity "servername\owa (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $True -Basicauthentication $false -Formsauthentication $false
Set-EcpVirtualDirectory -Identity "servername\ecp (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $true -FormsAuthentication $false

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 - healthsets failing

    Hi,
I have recently installed two Exchange 2013 SP1 servers in different environments and are experiencing issues on both. Issues that I haven't seen on Exchange 2013 without SP1.
I have 6 healthsets which are unhealthy.
    Autodiscover...
    ActiveSync.P...
    EWS.Proxy
    OAB.Proxy
    Outlook.Proxy
    OutlookMapiH...
    I found this article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms.exch.scom.ecp.proxy(v=exchg.150).aspx
Which describes, that try to restart the app pool, then an iisreset - and lastly reboot the server. Tried all and none of them helped.
But then I found this error in the Exchang event log:
    RecycleApplicationPool-MSExchangePowerShellAppPool-RpsDeepTestPSProxyRestart: Throttling rejected the operation
    Which fails almost every minute.
And I guess that this could be the issue. But I can't figure out which throttling that is causing this.
Any one else with this issue on Exchange 2013 SP1?
    Thanks in advance.
    /Kim

    Hi,
I have seen a lot of similar issues with health manager service. For IIS services, we can safely ignore these warnings. Personal experience, we just need to monitor whether there are related
    error reports in event log.

  • Fresh Exchange 2013 install on 2012 R2

    Hi Everyone-
I'm a bit confused on the steps to install Exchange 2013 SP1 on 2012 R2 in a new environment (no 2013 installed).  I've seen many mixed install guides recommending I install non-sp1, preparing the domain/schema first, install CAS/MBX roles.  Once
complete run the Sp1 upgrade starting with the domain/scheme upgrade, and then run the EXE.
I've also read that the 2013 SP1 download (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41994) is a full version of Exchange and can be ran as a clean install - so essentially just preparing the domain/schema and run the install once.  I
find this hard to believe as the ISO I've downloaded from VLSC is 3.5gb, yet the SP1 exe is 1.5gb.
Can anyone confirm which is the correct path to take?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Can't think of a good reason to install any other build of Exchange 2013 then SP1. The EX13 SP1 download is a full install and the only one that is supported on 2012 R2. The bits is packed in a different way so the download is smaller.
