Upgrading FCP 5.0.4 to 5.1.2?

Hi guys,
I was looking at the FCP site and noticed they had a 5.1.2 version out with a couple of new additions. I bought Final Cut Studio and when I try to download the 5.1.2, it wont allow me cause I don't have 5.1.0.
I've looked around and cant seem to find it anywhere or if its possible to get the 5.1.0 so I can than download the 5.1.2 version.
Thanks

I'm always of the opinion that if everything is working fine, don't go changing things (if it ain't broke, don't fix it).
That said, the 5.1 crossgrade does have some bug fixes and seems to be very stable for most users. One last thing to consider, Apple's crossgrade offer expires March 19th ... so it may be a good idea to get it while it's cheap, then install it whenever you feel the need.

  • Can I upgrade FCP from 7 yrs.ago with my new comp purchase?

I bought the full out FCP in 2001. I am about to buy new mac but cannot drop $1000. Do upgrades work that far apart? I have the same situation for Photoshop too. I don't really want to buy the cheaper abbreviated versions. Thanks!

No worries. If you just check out the product webpage you'll see this note
The Final Cut Studio upgrade provides an upgrade path from Final Cut Studio 2, Final Cut Studio 1, Production Suite, or any prior version of Final Cut Pro. Academic and Not-For-Resale (NFR) versions are not eligible for upgrade.
The important bit for you is where it says +"The Final Cut Studio upgrade provides an upgrade path from ... any prior version of Final Cut Pro"+ so even though your standalone version of FCP2 (?) is getting long in the tooth, you can upgrade it to the full Final Cut Studio suite (FCP 7, Motion 4, SountrackPro 3, Color 1.5, Compressor 3.5 and DVD StudioPro 4) all for just USD 299. Pretty bloody awesome really

  • G5 - Leopard Upgrade & FCP will not capture instead causes Crash of FCP.

I looked elsewhere on the forums and could not find my same problem.
After the upgrade to Leopard with my FCP it all seems to work just fine. Unless I try to capture. And at that point FCP crashes. I have this same thing happening on 2 machines. Where before the upgrade it was all fine. This happens with or without camera attached.
    Any ideas?

One thing you would like to hope is that Apples stuff works on their system. I really do not want to upgrade computers this week.
I have tried reinstalling the software (FCP again), I have repaired permissions.
    Thanks for any help
    Christopher

I have the same problem, log and capture just crash if I have the HDV capture preset selected, I cannot capture any high definition footage! I am running Leopard, FCP 5 and latest quicktime. It crashes FCP immediately I click on log and capture.

  • Looking to upgrade FCP Academic

    Two questions.
    1. I have FCP 6 academic. Can I upgrade it at the $299 price?
    2. My serial number was voided when Apple did a repair on my computer. When I type in the numbers, it says it's the wrong serial number. How do I fix this? And can I still upgrade if I don't have the serial number?

  • Upgrade FCP HD to X on Lion 10.7.3

I just bought a mini. I had no idea my FCP HD would not work on this computer. Very bummed. I cannot seem to find an upgrade, only the 800 dollar full versions.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks!

I assume that by "FCP HD" you mean version 6 or earlier?
You may be able to find a used FCP 7 (FCS 3) on eBay or some other second hand market place.
Your other alternative is to buy the spanking new FCP X for $299

  • After OS upgrade FCP shuts down after pressing log & capture

I recently upgraded from OS 10.3.5 to 10.3.9, since then when I try to log and capture in FCP 4 the program crashes and shuts down. Also it doesn't recognize the fire wire cable connected between deck and computer (it recognizes it in iMovie). In FCP in Audio/Video settings for Video Playback it says "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC" In between I installed FCP5 but problem remains. I tried to delete the preference files but it didn't help. Anybody had similar problems and can help? Thanks!

What v of qt are you running ?
edit: oh yeah - and what v of fcp ?

  • Upgrading FCP from 4.5 to FCS 2

I recently upgraded to Tiger OS 10.4.10 and Final Cut Studio 2. I also installed a 1 TB internal hard drive. After installing FCS 2, Motion and DVD Pro will not open. They crash when I try to open them.
I upgraded from FCP 4.5 and DVD pro 2. Is this the reason for the incompatibility? Do I need the full version? I was told the upgrade would be sufficient. Please help, for I cannot resume business.

Try this, look carefully for installation issues. There are just too many possibilities but the news is probably good. Almost every install issue has turned out to be simple user errors.

  • Upgrade FCP Studio 3  LiveType question

I just upgraded to FCP S3 last night, everything went fine, all apps up and running perfectly but one. LiveType is asking me for a serial number and even if I enter my upgrade or original Serial, it always refuse it. Should I dump it's preferences? is it a known issue?

Sorry, my bad, I just realised that LiveType has been integretated in Motion now...

  • Installing FCS2 without upgrading FCP 5.1

I just got Final Cut Studio 2 and want to install it without upgrading Final Cut Pro. I'm still on FCP 5.1 at work and want to stay easily compatible on my laptop, is this possible?

    Ah. Got it.
FCS has to be on a drive that has Mac OS X on it.
An external bootable drive with Mac OS X and FCS 2 is one way to do this.
You could partition the internal which would be a terrible hassle, everything would have to be installed twice.
Another way would be to export XML 3 versions of your projects from FCP 6. But there are some effects and functions in FCP 6 that are not present in FCP 5.1 so you would have to avoid using those.

  • I just upgraded FCP from X to 10.1.  Now I can't open my projects.

My projects will not open now that I've upgraded to FCP 10.1.  What am I doing wrong?

I have updated all my projects and events.  I can see all my events (footage and files) in the Libraries.  But, I cannot find my projects.  When I go specifically out to that folder that contains one of my projects.  I can see a Backup folder, a Render Files folder, a Shared Items folder and an item titles CurrentVersion.fcpproject.  When I try to open this Final Cut Project - it only open up a simple text file.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Upgrading FCP 4.5 Suite to FCP 5 suite

Can anyone tell me where on the Apple web site I can find how to order the upgrade from FCP Suite 4.5 to FCP Suite 5. I cant find it anymore.

It tells you on the page:
"How do I get the Final Cut Studio upgrade?
After February 1, 2006, visit Apple.com again for complete details on the upgrade program, including an order form. A Universal version of Final Cut Studio is expected to ship by March 31, 2006

  • Upgrade FCP 1.2.5 to FCP 5 Or Studio

I've seen the upgrades on amazon for fcp 5 and studio and it says for any version of fcp. I have an older version (1.2.5) that was used on an older imac. If I get the upgrade can I use it on my new powerbook?

As long as the old version is not an Academic version or a NFR (Not For Resale), yes.

  • Problem upgrading FCP HD Retail (4.5) to FCS Studio 2

    Hi,
I have a retail (non-academic) version of the Final Cut Pro HD Production Suite. I recently purchased a Final Cut Studio 2 Upgrade.
When I try to install the upgrade, I get a message saying that this is an upgrade serial number and asking me to enter my original serial number. When I enter my original serial number, I get the message "The serial number you entered is not valid." What could be the problem?
The original is "Final Cut Pro HD Retail" and included separate serial numbers for FCP HD, Motion, QuickTime and DVD Studio Pro. I have used this version for years with no problem and I originally purchased it at full retail from the Apple Store, so I know there is nothing wrong with the serial number.
The upgrade says "Final Cut Studio 2 UPG from FCS". Everything I have seen online says that the FCS2 upgrade will upgrade from any prior version of FCP Production Suite. Is that not correct?
What could be the problem here?
    Thanks!
    Michael

I think that the problem is that this upgrade will not upgrade my FCP 4.5 Retail... I'm quite annoyed because I did a lot of research online and in these forums and everything I could find said that the Final Cut     Studio 2 Upgrade upgraded from all previous versions of Final Cut      Pro or Final Cut Studio. Even when I encountered the problem,      everything I found online said that the Studio 2 Upgrade upgraded from all      previous versions of Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Studio. Finally, I      found one obscure page at Apple that listed 3 different Final Cut     Studio 2 upgrades      and it appears that this one cannot upgrade from FCP 4.5... Why make an upgrade that can't go from version 4.5 to version 6? I'm      annoyed at Apple for making it so confusing. I'm going to try      getting the intermediate upgrade and hopefully that will work.
    Thanks for your input!

  • How many gigs to upgrade FCP?

How many gigs would it take to upgrade from FCP 5.1 to FCP 6?
And what about upgrading from FCS 1 to FCS 2 (including Color)?

When you update FCS 1 to FCS 2 the existing apps will be replaced by the newer version, either completely, or in part (only the newer, changed components will be installed in a partial replace).
I should point out that this procedure is generally not recommended on this forum. Rather, you should clone your existing drive then erase and install Mac OS X, do all updates followed by installing FCS 2 from the new discs.
FCS 2 does not require the presence of FCS 1 on the drive, it will simply ask you to enter the FCS 1 serial # to validate the installation.

  • How to upgrade FCP to HD

I have final Cut Studio 2 with version 6. I want to know how to begin editing in HD? Do I need to download an upgrade?

    Or use DVD Studio Pro...
#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing. Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps. Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.
