Upgrading Fifth generation iPod to software version 1.2.1

the latest software version for the fifth-gen iPod has been out for a while now, but i havent been able to upgade it because itunes keeps on telling me that "the iPod cannot be updated because it contains files that are in use by another application." can someone tell me why it wont update and what other application is causing it not to update so i can update my iPod. thank you if you can.
Dell Dimension 4100   Windows XP   OS was originally Windows ME; iPod version is currently 1.2;

I had that same problem and more; almost sent my ipod back. I also experienced charging problems, freezing, Compatibility problems too many to name. After trying almost everything I did a full install of the new software not the upgrade (that's what messed-up my ipod in the first place)leave the old software on the PC and just download the full "New" version. When you plug the ipod afterwards it should recognize it as an upgrade...don't ask me how that's what did it for me. It also gave me the option to restore the ipod which i did, then it copied all my songs back to my fifth-gen 60g. ipod. Hope this helps. Happy New Year! God Bless!

  • 1st generation ipod touch Software issue

I have a 1st generation ipod touch (software version 3.13). When I attempt to update the software, it says that the software is up to date.  Can I manually force an update or is there something else I can do?

Nope. 3.1.3 is the highest possible for a 1st gen.

  • Searching option in my Fifth Generation iPod

    Dear users,
I've been updated my fifth generation iPod to the latest firmware (ver. 1.3) but still doesn't have searching feature by selecting alphabets!
But other fifth gen. iPods have this feature!

Only the late 2006 5th gen iPods support the search feature. My 5th gen (bought when they first came out) is one of the earlier ones that doesn't support the search. There is no software update that will enable the search feature in the early 5th gens.

  • When will it be avaliable for fifth generation ipods?

I Cant believe this is only for iposd nano, does anybody no when it will be compatable with the fifth generation ipods?

it would take much more than 1000-2000 signatures. this would cost apple money to write the software and whatnot to get it to work on the other iPods so they're not gonna do for such a small amount of people.

  • Why doesn't my fifth generation ipod nano work with my Toyota Yaris?

Hello – The charging feature on my new fifth generation ipod nano doesn’t work with the factory glove compartment adapter that came with my 2008 Toyota Yaris. It plays music, etc but does not charge the ipod when connected.
My third generation nano charged perfectly with my yaris until it was run over and crushed recently. My nano gen 5 replacement doesn’t work the same with my Yaris. Can anyone help?

I cannot say for sure, I don't know anything about the toyota yaris. However, if that system was built to work with older firewire based iPods, then it will not charge new USB based units. There are converters out there you can get do deal with this.

First of all I am new with the ipod, and I am not familiar with this certain issues regarding videos on the ipod"
My question is that do you have to watch videos or TV shows that you download on itunes? Or can you just simply automatically sync the video or TV show to your Fifth Generation ipod without viewing the content my itunes librairy?
Thank who all that can help me.

I guss I'm not being clear, but here it goes again....
I click buy on the iTunes Store
It asks for my user name and password
Then it downloads my vid or what not
    Then I sync my iPod
As far as I knew this was standered practice, in other words if you aready have on the computer you bought it on then you don't need to authorize it again unless you trasfer it to another computer.
    Right?!?!
P.S. assuming you agree with me and every one else that buys from iTunes then yes you did say you need to authorize media twice.
The bottom line is that you must authorize your computer in order to transfer purchased videos and music to the iPod.
To do this you need to play a part of the video on your computer. It need only be a few seconds of it.
You can authorize up to 5 different computers.
If you cannot play any purchased videos on a computer, you cannot authorize it.
Authorize when you buy it then as above play it on your computer to authorize it!!!!

  • Applications crashing on fifth generation iPod Touch?

Hello everyone.  I have a fifth generation iPod Touch that I got last month and every time I use some of the applications, they end up crashing on me, almost every time.  The Weather Channel is one of the programs that frequently crashes.  Why is it doing this?  I have also checked for an operating system update for the device and there is not one.  What could be the problem?

If the reset does no work
    Try:
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Maybe the replacement is defective.
