Upgrading Final Cut Studio to another machine

I have Final Cut Studio 5.0.4 running on a G5. This was an upgrade from Final Cut Pro 1.0. I not find the original discs but I do have the reciept and the books. I would like to upgrade to the current version Final Cut Studio on an Intel Mac. Can I?

Only if you have the original serial number.

Is it not possible to upgrade Final Cut Studio as a whole? Do you have to now buy the software separately?

It is still possible to upgrade some versions of FCP, especially the Studios, As always, the upgrades apply to base versions that needed to be purchased. The latest version of Final Cut Studio is no longer for sale from Apple but it doesn't run on a PowerMac anyway. The only Final Cut Pro product currently for sale is Final Cut Pro X, which requires an Intel Mac.

Can u upgrade Final Cut studio product key from a G-5 platform to a new intel processor?

Not sure here ... you want to upgrade Final Cut Studio or do you want to move the version you have to an Intel Mac? Both is possible if you meet the system requirments.
    1. Upgrade FCS
The Final Cut Studio upgrade provides an upgrade path from Final Cut Studio 2, Final Cut Studio 1, Production Suite, or any prior version of Final Cut Pro. Academic and Not-For-Resale (NFR) versions are not eligible for upgrade.
    2. Upgrade to Intel Mac
You may run the applications on one desktop and one laptop at the same time

  • Moving Final Cut Studio to another computer

I just got a new G5 and want to take my Final Cut Studio off my Power Book G4 and put it on the G5 and then instal Final Cut Express on the Power Book.
Can I transfer the license to another computer and if so how is my question.
Thank you for your time, Robert

All you need to do is remove it from the powerbook, and install it on the G5. The license for the softare is for the software, not what machine it is on. But it can only reside on one machine...which you know.
    Good for you.

  • Upgrading Final Cut Studio

I have Final Cut Studio with FCP 5 and Motion 2 can I upgrade it to FCP 6 and Motion 3?
I see where the Apple Site has a Final Cut Studio upgrade which includes FCP 6 and Motion 3 will it work?
For some reason I have not been able to get my Motion 2 to work which messes up my entire editing process with FCP on a project I am working on. I have reinstalled the original disks but no luck.
I am thinking that upgrading to the next possible "free" upgrade for Final Cut Studio might work and make my Motion 2 (upgraded to Motion 3) functional.
I would appreciate any suggestions I can get.

What you said is exactly what I am worried about. I found a FCP 6 download on Apple's site. If comes with FCP5 and Motion 3 but I do not know if it will blow up my system which is:
    Machine Name: iMac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac8,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.5f1
I don't know much about the "technical" aspect of the machine, it is just that I need my FInal Cut Studio to work and it won't because something happened to Motion and it WILL NOT UPLOAD from the original disks which I have. So I thought maybe FCP6 and Motion 3 would work better for me.
My I MAC IS NOT AN INTEL but I really don't know what it is!

  • Correct way to upgrade Final Cut Studio 2 to Final Cut Studio

I want to know what is the correct way to upgrade the Final Cut Studio 2 on my MacBook Pro to the new Final Cut Studio? I want to be able to keep LiveType seems to have been killed off in Final Cut Studio. Do I need to uninstall all products in Final Cut Studio 2, first or can install over?
Which is the best way to proceed, I will be making the purchase within the next couple of weeks.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sebastian

Thanks! This is very helpful. I would like to keep Live Type as well but my main concern was because I am thinking about buying a refurb Intel Mac Pro off ebay with FCS 2 already installed. I emailed the company and they do not have the licenses for the software because it came to them already on it. I was hoping that there would be a way that when I upgrade to the new FCS that it wouldn't ask me for those. Other forums said to erase FCS 2 before upgrading for some reason but that doesn't make sense to me. Are you having any problems with it after writing over your old FCS 2?
Anything else I should be worried about in buying this computer?!
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • Final Cut Studio Serial Number

    Hi-
I am thinking of finally getting a Mac Pro, which will require upgrading Final Cut Studio and all that fun stuff.
In looking for my original FCS DVDs, I realize they were lost in a move last year. I can't find the install DVDs, the booklet or the serial numbers!!!
What info can I get off of my hard drive to be able to install FCS 3 on a new computer?

Give applecare a call and see what they can do for you.

  • Help with Installing Soundtrack 3 alongside Final Cut Studio 2

    Hi All,
I am looking for advice on how to install Soundtrack Pro 3 which is part of my Logic Studio Upgrade. I have a Macbook Pro with Final Cut Studio 2 and Logic Studio. I just bought the upgrade to Logic Studio (and not Final Cut) as I mainly do audio work and rarely video editing any more.
The installation instructions say that Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor 3.5 have new components which are not compatible with my older Final Cut Studio 2 and will not be installed.
Is there a way to install Soundtrack Pro 3 as a standalone application in another part of my computer, like under a different user or in some way where I can open it independently from the Final Cut Studio 2 program? Or is upgrading Final Cut Studio 2 to version 3 my only option?
Thanks in advance for any ideas,

It's easy... just boot from your OS CD, and choose erase and install from the optional installs button once booted. Run Software update a few times until there is no more to update... This will erase the hard drive and install a new OS on it.
    Install whatever.
To boot from this drive, hold down the option key during a startup , and you can pick it from the dialog box that opens. To reboot just select the other drive in the startup disk pref in Apple System prefs.

  • Final Cut Studio (2005) just died.

    Hey Guys,
Was hoping for some guidance. I've been using the 2005 academic version of Final Cut Studio without any issues for almost 5 years now. I've been doing a lot of freelance editing work on my iMac (2007 Intel Core 2 Duo), and it's running the latest version of Snow Leopard (10.6.3). I was last able to use the program around 2 weeks ago. I opened it up this morning, and Final Cut Pro "quits unexpectedly" without even loading. Same with every other program in the FCS suite.
I thought the root of this problem might have been a recent software update. I was having issues downloading Compressor and Qmaster 2.0.1. It kept telling me that they were corrupted during the download. Every other piece of software was up to date. So I manually downloaded both of those updates this morning from Apple's website. While now it says that all my software is up to date, it didn't solve the problem at all.
To make matters worse, I'm not able to reinstall Final Cut Studio onto my machine. It keeps telling me that I don't meet the hardware requirements (which is a bit ridiculous, considering I've successfully installed it onto my machine before. Is it an issue with Snow Leopard?).
I'm not sure what to do now, and I really can't afford to spend $1000 on the new FCS. The Academic version that I have is not eligible for the $300 upgrade.
Do I have any hope of salvaging this?
    Thanks for your help,
    -J

It is Snow Leopard. Don't run SL with your version of FCP. So what this means you have to do is back up all your files, erase the hard drive, install the Leopard OS from scratch (10.5), then fully update, then install FCS, and fully update. And stay there.
If your FCS is an older FCS, you can't run the latest OS, typically.

  • Final Cut Studio Upgrade/Crossgrade Nightmare

Hopefully someone here can help me, because I'm facing a huge problem thanks to Apple's horrific upgrade/crossgrade nightmare with Final Cut Studio.
After some forum surfing here, I've discovered that upgrade/crossgrades were offered some months ago, but not anymore. I think this is outrageous on the part of Apple.
    Here's my situation:
September 2006 (Australia): Bought a spiffy G5 / 23" Cinema HD machine with Final Cut Studio (5.0). Spent over $8,000. Used and loved and used and loved.
April 2007 (New Zealand): Bought a spiffy MacPro / 23" HD. Spent another $8,000. Can't used the software because the new machine is intel/Rosetta. Can't "crossgrade" because the offer's gone. Have to upgrade to FCS2. Cool. I will. But it's not here in NZ for a few more weeks, and I need FCP NOW!
    What do I do?
How do I install and run my Final Cut Studio 5.0 on the new intel Mac? Where do I go to get the "crossgrade" (what a load of crap, by the way... to make customers who spent thousands on software have to pay to use it on the new machines) now that the links are all redirecting to FCS2??
Any advice (URGENTLY) would be most appreciated. I've been on hold with Apple for 20 minutes already. Cheers.
    MacPro 2.66Ghz QX   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Really? The upgrade was no secret? Maybe for people who sit online and read everything there is to know about this stuff... but I've been busy using FCP 5.0 for a year and a half on a PPC machine. How am I supposed to know that when I buy a new MacPro everything is going to come crashing to a halt? I've had better upgrade experiences with Windoze machines (and those have been pretty horrific--the appropriate and suitable word here--too)!
And why exactly should I have to pay $700 USD for the privilege of using MY software on a newer machine? I have no problem paying the upgrade price for Final Cut Studio 2... it's a new product, better features, etc. But to pay it to use software I bought a year and a half ago on a new machine? The "crossgrade" should be FREE. Yes, I know that's a bad word in the Apple world, but if you're going to do a shift in technology, it's completely disrespectful to your customers to present them with a situation of being unable to use what they've paid dearly for. Honestly. It's one of the "benefits" Apple uses to SELL their computers -- whatever happened to It just works, and You can use all your old stuff?
Mate, you don't have to sympathize with my position. But after spending $18,000, I think a reasonable solution to this problem is fair and warranted.
If anyone else has any suggestions, I would very much appreciate them.

  • Final Cut Studio Upgrade?

    Hello!
I just recently purchased Final Cut Studio 3 lisence from a local retail store (varimport) and had my 3% discount in price as I'm a student. I'm also very keen to upgrade to the future version of Final Cut Studio and I'd like to know can I upgrade my version with the upgrade version (299$) or do I have to purchase a completely new license? I've had different answers to this question and now I'd like to ask it here on Apple's official forum . I mean the situation is pretty bad if I have to spend another 'round 1000€ for a new license this year.... or whenever the next major version will come out. In the end that 3% discount really doesn't mean anything when the price is that high.
    Thanks in advance,

Current academic versions of Final Cut (which you got) will not upgrade to newer versions of Final Cut. They will update via Software Updater for patches, but not to a full new version. You'll have to buy a full version.
As for price, in the past, sometimes the academic versions were about the same price as the upgrades. This latest version, the academic prices went up significantly.
What will happen in the next version? Who knows. But there's the current situation and the history. Roll the bones.

  • Problem licencing Final Cut Studio cross upgrade

I purchased the coss upgrade from Final Cut 4.0 to Final Cut studio (FCS)
After entering the licence code for FCS, a error message says: "The licence file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough priveleges".
I am logged in as Admin - I even made another account as Admin, but the same message. FCS allows you to install the software, but when finished, every program in FCS prompts for a unuqie licence key - which did not come with the package.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Another Final Cut Studio 2 question...

    Hey guys,
I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this question.
A little while ago I had the Academic version of the Production Suite then last year, I bought my MacBook Pro. I upgraded for the Final Cut Studio when they had the promotion to upgrade for 200$ or whatever it was.
Now, my question is... since I upgraded from my Academic FCP to the generic upgrade (which I'm assuming was the same upgrade for everyone since there's no more Academic badge,) can I purchase the FinalCut Studio 2 upgrade? Or do I need to get the Academic version?
Is there a way to make sure, with my serial number, which kit I'm allowed to buy?
Another quicky; I have a Dual 2.5G5 PowerMac and I noticed that my graphics card doesn't meet the requirements for Color. What's the suggested graphics card for this system that will work with all the studio apps? I don't want something that's too expensive. It's funny because the graphics card on my MacBook Pro meets the requirements but the screen doesn't and my PowerMac's graphics card doesn't meet the requirements but my screen has a high enough resolution...
I know it's a long post but any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

They only say that you need the video card in that the Quad came with stock... The 9600 Pro is in spec with Color, which is one of the main reasons why I'm upgrading! I have a month to find one... The local shop has been backordered for awhile and it seems the same fate for online vendors I'm looking for an alternative!

  • Final Cut Studio 5.0.4 Upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 HD Crash now needing to install on laptop

I had Final Cut Studio 5.0.4 on my laptop which I upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2 during the 12 month period when it was offered at a reduced price.  My old G5 Hard Drive has bit the dust and I am trying to install on my laptop.  I have successfully re-installed upto 5.0.4 including the troublesome compressor 2.0.1 and Qmaster 2.0.1.  There are no further updates apparently when my laptop scans for any.  I am running OSX 10.5.8.  Now when I put the disks in for the Studio 2 all FCP, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Compressor, DVD Studio Pro, Apple Qmaster, Live Type and Cinema tools are all grayed out, saying they need to be upgraded first.  I am guessing it is because this 12 month deal is no longer available.  Does anyone know a work around for this?  I paid $499 for this upgrade and I cant re-install it?
My laptop is 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SD RAM, small for FCP but I don't keep files on there.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    jennymanning

why did you install FCP 5 when you are going to install FCS 2?   FCS 2 upgrade installer does not need  FCP 5 installed and therefore you dont need updates as you will be installing a newer version of FCP.
During the installation process of FCS 2 it should ask for the serial number of FCP 5 then ask for the upgrade serial number for FCS 2. You must have both of these or it wont install.
Check this spec for FCS 2 with your laptop to see if it is compatible, if the machine is not compatible, it wont install.
