Upgrading Flash Catalyst V1.0 (CS5) to V1.5 (CS5.5)

Does anyone know how to upgrade Flash Catalyst V1.0 (CS5) to V1.5 (CS5.5).

Well yes, but doesn't mean that no one is using it anymore. Its still a quite good tool e.g. for creating skins. Wouldn't it be nice gesture to provide the 1.5 upgrade serial ... for free?

  • Open a Flash Catalyst file with new Panini?

    Hello,
I put myself under the bracket of a designer, although have the skills to use flash professional, using as3 but have fount using flash catalyst to be a breathe of fresh air as I can stay well away from code and achieve quick basic outcomes. My only issue I have is when getting Panini and now I am itching to use the new features, especially a simple design I have done for a webpage and I need the new resizable feature to completely make it complete.
I realise there is yet the possibility of opening an old file into the new Panini, although in the future there will be... but I kinda need it now and I get the obvious error below:
This preview version of Flash Catalyst Panini cannot upgrade Flash Catalyst CS5 projects. This feature will be enabled in a future build.
To open this project, open the FXP in Flash Builder Burrito, resolve Flash Catalyst compatibility issues, and then Export as a new Flash Builder Project (.FXP)
Now I have Burrito and have stared longaly at the code but don't know where to start, is there anyone who could help me out? I am a student so have no access to a developer as such and the design is only for a friend but would apprecaite the help, not much the way in tutorials on cutting edge tech!
    Thanks,

  • Is upgrade to flash catalyst CS5.5 worth it?

I'm using panini and burrito right now. If i spend the $80 to go to FC CS5.5 is it worth it?
Will it still round trip with Burrito? (FB upgrade is about $400 I think)
Other option is to upgrade my Master Collection but that's still gonna cost $600 I think. Not sure which version of FB that gives me.
I guess I'm wondering , will FC CS5.5 give me anything significant that I don't already have in Panini?

For me, the two main reasons to upgrade are:
    - The ability to create resizable applications
    - The possibility to import a FXPL with custom skinnable components created in Flash Builder, and to skin these components in Flash Catalyst
But there are other improvements concerning transitions, the timeline and so on...

  • Flash Catalyst CS5 resizable application with webpage zoom?

    Hi guys,
I've come back to Catalyst cs5 after a long while of not using it and am wondering if it is possible to create something and make it resizable?
I seem to remember reading a while back about a way to do it in flash builder but can't for the life of me find the discussion again.
What I have is a basic photo gallery with thumbnails on the side and one large image that changes when you click the thumbnail. All this is great on a standard webpage but when you zoom in on the web browser with CTRL and + or zoom out with CTRL and -  the SWF stays the same size. I'd like to be able to make it so the SWF resizes with the zoom so people with trouble seeing can view it bigger.
Does anybody have any idea how I can do this, if it is possible? (Baring in mind I can't upgrade to Catalyst 5.5)
    Thanks,
    Gareth

    Hi,
    That really helped me out!
I was playing around with importing all different file types to see what would crash Flash Catalyst and it appears to just be .flv files, because it imports images, mp3s, and swf files and .f4v video files with no problems. Hey, at least now I can continue importing videos as long as they are .f4v's!
Would still be helpful to figure out why it doesn't like .flv's though...
The step are: File>Import>Video/Sound File...Dialogue box opens, I choose any .flv file (include files which seemed to work fine before) and the program just quits itself giving me the error report window. When I use .f4v files no such problem occurs...
Will send you a yousendit link containing one of the guilty .flv files now - this is a .flv file I used in creating a page with flash Catalyst just days ago before it decided it would no longer import them.
Thanks for your help so far

  • CS5 upgrade install Catalyst problem

I purchased the CS5 Master Collection Upgrade because I wanted to get the full CS5 Version of Flash Catalyst. I had previously had the beta version of Flash Catalyst on my comptuer. Before Installation of the CS5 upgrade, I tossed my beta version of Flash Catalyst in the trash and emptied the trash.
When shown the choices of products to install with the CS5 installation, I am not given the option to install Flash Catalyst CS5 (there is a red x next to this option and it says “A prerelease version of the product is already installed”.) even though a search for any remnants of the previous BETA version can not be found.
I have shut down and restarted the computer. and I spoke with Adobe technical consultants in India (or wherever they are)  for an hour.. this situation was not in their reference which they repeatedly referred to to no avail, so they told me I must e-mail Adobe from the internet.
Speaking to someone on the other side of the world is bad enough but when the people from India or Bora Bora, or wherever, put you on hold while they refer to their references for an hour then can not help you and tell you have to send an e-mail for a more competent level of support,  it is even more frustrating. Furthermore,  having to correspond by e-mail for a more competent level of technical support even though I had just spent over $1,000 on an UPGRADE, is most disparaging.
I hope that Adobe will  make my installation of Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5 possible soon. But in the meantime, has anyone else had this problem?

This issue is addressed in the FAQ in this post. See if that works for you. You'll want to remove all prior installations of Flash Catalyst.
All of the Adobe products have their own uninstaller script, so you will want to run that instead of just dragging the program folder to the trash.

  • Flash Catalyst CS5 is running Slow?

Flash Catalyst is very slow in my computer, another thing is that I can not see the icon next to page.
    Specifications:
hp envy: 12 gb of Ram,processor: Intel core i7 1.8, windows 7 ultimate.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

There are a few things going on with the default version of Catalyst CS5 that might make it respond more slowly (especially on a big project - lots of nested components with many states):
    1. The binary that runs catalyst is still 32 bit so on Windows (Even a 64 bit system with 12GB of RAM) it can only use 2GB max
    2. Since the process that's being run uses a Java Virtual Machine to run (JVM) it can only use 1.2 GB of that theoretical max of 2GB
    3. By default it comes configured to only use 512MB of heap in the JVM, but this can be modified as shown in the link below:
    http://elromdesign.com/blog/2010/03/30/improve-flash-catalyst-performance/
Theoretically you could run it on a 64bit JVM that takes advantage of more than 2GB of RAM per process, but I am unclear how that works with a compiled .exe -> JVM (Tomcat had a similar issue a while back before they started including a pre-compiled 64bit Bootstrap loader for windows)
We were having issues with an extremely large Catalyst CS5 project and by doing the modifications linked above it gave us a bunch more breathing room.
Another reocmmendation: Upgrade to Catalyst CS5.5 - opening the same project in Catalyst CS5.5 (without the .ini modifications) was extremley performant so it looks like they have done some other performance enchancements between Catalyst CS 5.0 and Catalyst CS 5.5.
    Hope this helps.
       -rOck
p.s. It looks like Adobe is getting on the bandwagon of 64 bit as some of their projects (Photoshop and Premiere?) have already been converted to take advantage of 64 bit. Being a developer myself I understand the implications of a "simple" change like converting an application from 32bit to 64bit.

  • Unable to run project: illegal character in path - Flash Catalyst CS5.5

Environment is a new install of Windows 7 x64 on a new Dell workstation in an Active Directory environment. Until fall of last year, we used redirected folders for the Application Data folders until issues with Adobe Reader 9.x forced us to abandon that and we reconfigured our network not to use redirected folders. We have not experienced any issues and all programs are using the Application Data folder on the local machines.
Just installed Adobe Master Collection on a new workstation and all Adobe applications are using the C:\Users\cballew\AppData\Roaming\Adobe folder including Flash Catalyst. However, when I try to Run Project in Catalyst, it created a folder named Application Data using the network path to where we used to store the Application Data folder and is saving its workspace there. No other programs (including Adobe products) are doing this. Any ideads of how to fix it?

  • Flash Catalyst CS5.5 Crashes when importing photoshop document

I am trying to import a photoshop file authored in Photoshop CS5.1 into Flash Catalyst CS5.5, and Flash catalyst crashes every time part way through the import. A few specifics:
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Photoshop CS5.1
    Catalyst CS5.5
I have searched this forum for suggestions, and I have tried a number of them:
    * Removing layers from the source psd file to find a culprit layer (Removing all but one layer still crashes)
    * Running Photoshop in 32 bit mode, dragging the layers to a new document and saving
    * Waving chicken bones over my laptop (Nobody really suggested this, for good reason -- it doesn't work)
I have also replicated this crash on other Macintosh computers running the same Catalyst and Photoshop versions.
I have included part of the crash dump below. I've highlighted the section that mentions how many crashes I've had. I am happy to provide .psd files to demonstrate the issue, and troubleshoot any way necessary.
    Thank you,

Hum. Have you tried a new Photoshop file with say one layer in it and just a fill or something very basic, then importing that in?
This might tell us if it is the PSD that has the issue or the import engine in Catalyst.
You said you removed the layers. So you tried importing each of the layers one by one into Catalyst with success? Then that means you have one layer that is troublesome. I would suspect that there is a filter or effect that has been applied that source of the issue.

  • Importing a flash Catalyst .swf file in Flash CS5 ?

    Hi,
I found Flash Catalyst by luck while browsing the Adobe website and downloading the Flash CS5 trial...
    One simple question....
Can I import a .swf file created in Flash Catalyst into a Flash CS5 .fla as an element ?
I created a scrolling text attached to a custom made scrolling bar in Flash Catalyst, and I would now like to use it in my Flash CS5 project...
Well, I will be waiting for your responses...
Thanks in advance for your help !
    Gilbert Gour

Unfortunately you can't import an SWF from Flash Catalyst into Flash CS5.  Flash Catalyst uses the Flex Framework for building the its SWF.  Flash CS5 does not use the Flex Framework and doesn't know what to do with that kind of file.  You can load an SWF from Flash CS5 into your Flash Catalyst project, though.

  • Flash Catalyst CS5.5 Scale to fit the Browser size.

    Hello,
I've create a website and when i preview on my browser ( 1280x664 website size) it look very good ,but when i try to see it from a different desktop will smaller or bigger size my website is croped ,some important functions are croped.
I've been all the day looking in internet trying to fund a solution how to fix this but nothing.
I saw an article that explaind how to fix that in flash catalyst cs5 and i tried to but didnt work
so please help me to tell me how to make this work, i want just my website to get scaled
''to work in any monitor size''
    Thank you

Could you add a link to your site here at all ? That would help with some workarounds maybe.
I have noticed that many of the professional websites designed by web-agencies use a common design. They design the content to fit the majority of users who can view and do seem to view at around 800 x 450 - take a look at this as a good reference point.
They then place the main content in a container - and centre it - so that it moves with fluidity - as the users resize the browser window, the content stays central on the page. Often a background image is used behind the main content - and the background image can be scaled to fit the window.
There are some good examples like Carl Cox's Intec Label Website and some more at a great London Design Agency called bobbentleydesign.com
You will note that many of these sites use the same method. Since such reputable designers use the same methods I would assume there's a damn good reason to do it that way, it must be the best way available . . . if there was a reliable way to scale everything then I would bet these pro's would be doing so - but they dont.
Sorry I do not have the kind of solution that you are looking for. I am not a pro and very new to CS5 myself but I hope it may help you out. I think you are looking for something that can not be done effectively or consistently but I may be wrong. Perhaps someone knows but in the meantime . . . work around it.

  • FAQ: I'm having trouble installing Flash Catalyst CS5, how do I clean up beta installations?

The majority of users have trouble installing Flash Catalyst CS5 when they have not properly run the uninstaller on a previous version (typically a beta version).
If this is the case, the first thing you should try is running the Adobe CS5 cleanup script: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/829/cpsid_82947.html

Flash Player Protected Mode provides a modern, sophisticated set of security protections that we see as critical in today's security landscape.
We highly recommend that users not disable ProtectedMode.  Also, it's worth noting that by manually changing your mms.cfg, you have opted out of Protected Mode for all future versions of Flash Player, as we will continue to honor that preference. This puts your system at risk, and that risk will continue to grow over time.
Ultimately, this is an issue with the RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in.  There is a more technical explanation in the Mozilla bug referenced above in the thread, but the simplified version is that the security enhancements designed to prevent the introduction of malware via Flash Player make RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in no longer compatible with Flash Player for Firefox.  You can disable the record functionality to eliminate this issue, while retaining the ability to view both Flash and Real Player content.
To disable the Real Player Browser Record functionality while maintaining the enhanced security provided by Flash Player with Protected Mode, do the following:
        Launch RealPlayer
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper-left corner of the window, and choose Preferences
Choose Download & Recording from the left-hand menu
Uncheck "Enable Web Download & Recording for these installed browser"
        Click OK

  • Can I install/buy a Flash Catalyst plugin and run it on CS3 or would I need to buy Flash CS5 too?

I use CS3 in my company and they're not prepare to spend more money on a whole new adobe package. I'd love to use the advantages of catalyst but not sure I can just puchase it on its own or f I need to buy Flash CS5 too. any help?

Flash Catalyst is available as a stand alone product. However without CS5 versions of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, you will be unable to do any visual round tripping of the assets. Also you might need Flash Builder to extend your work beyond the capabilities of FC.

  • Good information for anyone using Flash Catalyst CS5 !!!

I am using FC_CS5 and I am a huge fan and can not wait for the next version to come out. I have already maxed out the potential of this program and I have noticed many other people having the same problem that I had when it comes to not being able to create any more than 20 different states or 20 different pages.
The way around this is simply to design your project within AI CS5, Fireworks CS5, Photoshop CS5. I started my project out in Illustrator CS5 simply because Flash catalyst will recognize your layers and your individual artboards and will lay them out for you in your Catalyst project. This is the great part!!!
You can't  create new or duplicate anything over 20 states from within Catalyst but you can create a large amount of artboards or in catalyst terms, "states", thus allowing you to get by the restriction within catalyst.
My project has about 45 different artboards. I created a few extra artboards incase the client wanted to add some stuff later on. I create a catalyst project from my AI project and now I have 45 different states.
I hope this will help anyone who is using Flash Catalyst and I can't wait for the adobe crew to fix this issue allow for more than 20 states in the future and I better not find out that the adobe crew stops the "work around" I described above!

    OH man it's precious.
Do you have any insight into my imported swf problem?
I have just now updated dw and fc and redone the process (heard imported swfs was easier on the beta version) don't know why I can't manage my assets, or what I did wrong in one instance, but correctly in the other.  (see the animation on the LW corner).
The help files really need to be developed in this area, I guess..
two versions, testing server correct: www.cachetrade.com
Not running swf (with rollover of the yogi on the left): www.desertypalmyoga.com
    Is this a hijack or a top-post?
I really just want to understand the issues so I can plan workflow: really quite powerful, that's why this first design in most b+w (though curious how the color overlays and modes will work... )
    THANKS!
