Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 - will I lose my  plug-in authorizations?

I have a LOT of 3rd party apps and plug-ins.
When I upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 will I lose my authorizations for them/have to re-install them?
Thanks

  • Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6 - Will I lose any data or application?

    Hi gang,
I forgot that I have a 10.5.6 family upgrade disc. I've upgraded my kid's Mac Mini and was not sure about upgrading my MacBook Pro then.
So I'm thinking I should upgrade my MacBook Pro now but I am not sure if I will lose any data or application (and application specific information). Can you folks please clarify and/or provide best way to perform the upgrade?
I use my MacBook Pro on a daily basis from office document, browsing, audio recording and editing, video editing and photo editing that I can't imagine my MacBook Pro having a problem.
I'm also hoping that with the upgrade, my Superdrive will somehow come back to life and be useful again.
    Here's my MacBook Pro info:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B07
    SMC Version: 1.16f11
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled

I'm also hoping that with the upgrade, my Superdrive will somehow come back to life and be useful again.
    Unlikely.
That usually means a hardware problem. No operating system update will fix hardware problems.
I'd get it fixed by an authorized service center. If you are in the U.S. there are places that can do it cheaper if you are out of warranty:

Before doing any upgrade, backup your data*:

That way you avoid the risk of losing everything.

  • I upgraded from leopard to lion and my epson printer will not work. I get a communication error

I upgraded from leopard to lion and my Epson printer will not work. I get a error message comunication error. What can Ido to fix this I bought a new USB cord and it did no good.

I suddenly had the same thing happen. I've had my new iMac for 3 months and at first my Epson Artisan 50 worked okay then yesterday I started getting the same error message other people on this support site have gotten. I tried ALL the advice given (deleating the Epson files from the library folder, etc. reinstalling older software) and nothing worked. With the newest iMac (and operating system) you cannot pick and choose which version of Epson software you want. You must use the 10.8 version or it simply will not open when you've downloaded it. Finally I found the comment above by den.thed and tried the OS X Mountain Lion: Reset the printing system suggested. As much as I hated to lose all my printing presets that took a lot of expiermentation to set up, I was desperate. I tried it and it worked. Now I just have to consult my old computer and try to recreate all my printing set ups.  So to others with Epson / Apple 10.8 issues this may help when everything else fails. Thanks den.thed for your advice.

    Thanks for the information.
It means will not have any impact of upgrading the following in oracle 2nodes 11gR2 environment running on AIX.
    SUDO: 1.8.5p2 to 1.8.6p8
    SSH: 5.8.0.6102 to 6.0.0.6102
    SSL: 0.9.8.1801 to 0.9.8.2500
So we need to bring down the servers and reboot the same once upgraded the above mentioned secured packages.
Will not have any problems of logging and Db will be in normal as earlier before upgrade and capable of using the secured packages as well, Please confirm on this?
    I confirm

  • If I upgrade my factory unlocked iphone to a new firmware, will I lose may apps, data or carrier unlock??

If I upgrade my factory unlocked iphone to a new firmware, will I lose may apps, data or carrier unlock?? I have a 4.3.3 firmware but want 5.0.1

If it's a genuine factory unlocked phone from Apple you should have no problems. I have had two, a 3GS and now a 4S, and they update and handle just like the locked phones. If it has been hacked in any way, though, all bets are off.

  • HT4528 If I transfer from one iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4 will I lose my voicemails?

If I transfer from one iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4 will I lose my voicemails?

Not if you backup your old phone and then restore your new phone to that backup http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

  • My photos from my phone are not on my computer, will i lose them if i restore my phone?

my photos from my phone are not on my computer, will i lose them if i restore my phone?

The intent of having them on the cloud is for backup. If you want to feel safer and just for more expediency, I'd recommend you connect the phone to the computer whose iTunes you have associated the phone with and do a manual backup onto local storage.
That way, you can have the double assurance of having backups and when doing the restore thru iTunes, the info will get placed back on the phone the quickest.

  • If I upgrade to ios 5.1.1 on my iPhone, will I lose all my apps or have to redownload them?, If I upgrade to ios 5.1.1 on my iPhone, will I lose all my apps or have to redownload them?

If I upgrade to ios 5.1.1 on my iPhone, will I lose all my apps or have to redownload them?
Or how can I prevent this?

Now everything should remain the same as it was prior to the update.
But a good practice is to always do a backup prior to any update - "Just in case"

  • I need to upgrade my Macbook Pro from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. Will I lose any files on my drive if I do that?

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.4.11. I am trying to upgrade from that to Snow Leopard then to 10.7.5. I know that I have to do it in steps. My question ins this. I have a Snow Leopard disk that came with my Imac that I can use to upgrade my laptop. When I go through the process, it says something about using Timeline to restore. Am I going to lose all of my files? All I need is for the OS to be updated. Will it be safe to go through with it or will I lose all of my files on the drive. Any answers to this question are much appreciated.

You can't use the Mac OS X disc that came with another computer to upgrade another Mac because it's not supported. Buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You shouldn't lose data, but you must make a backup before

  • Terror Grips My Chest -- Need To "Upgrade" From Fusion 4.1.3 to what-ever-will-work-on-Yosemite (and  I can't have much down time!)

I haven't upgraded from Fusion 4.1.3 not because of procrastination or cheapness, but because 4.1.3 is WORKING -- and it took a LONG, LONG time
    to get it that way!
In other words, my Fusion PTSD tells me that if I mess around with what I have AT ALL, I will be back in the half-time-job-hell of finding solutions to my unique
situation that I endured when I installed Fusion in the first place.
    Anyway, does anybody know:
Will Fusion 7 open the current ".vmwarevm" files (i.e., created from Fusion Version 4.1.3) I am successfully using for running Windows XP Pro on my MacBook Pro (circa 2011)???
(I don't mind spending the money -- I just don't want to create another blooming disaster!)
Thanks a million if you know the answer, or can point me somewhere to find it!

Ditto on all those points.  I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner to make a full bootable backup.  Time Machine is NOT adequate, particularly for virtual machines.
After upgrading to Yosemite, make sure you do a repair permissions in disk utility....and be prepared for some 10.10 bugs (it's just now becoming stable).

  • Upgrade from CS4 to CS5--what functions in CS4 do I lose?

By grading from CS5 to CS4, what functions will I lose in CS4? I see that the "upgrade" button is greyed out in CS4. Anything else?

Just to be clear (and I don't think I was originally)...the upgrade is from CS4 to CS5. I see that CS4 is still available and operating. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't become "dead" after upgrading to CS5.
Thanks for all the information and responses.

  • My audio aggregate device is not stable in Mountain Lion, it was fine before I upgraded from Snow Leopard - every time I reboot the computer it loses the configuration and so it is not available in Logic Pro

My audio aggregate device is not stable in Mountain Lion - it was fine before I upgraded from Snow Leopard. Every time I reboot the audio aggregate device (MOTU TRAVELER, MOTU PRE8 1, MOTU PRE8) has to be reconfigured so that it is available within Logic Pro.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • After an upgrade from Power mac G5 to iMac and PS will not run... Error - 150:30.  Seems to be a Licensing issue.  Any ideas? Works fine on the old Powermac...

Delighted with the new iMac but I have had an old version of CS4 for years now and it will not run on the new machine.  I have tried Adobe customer care chat but it seems that nobody is available right now.  Can anyone help?

I cannot locate the Flexnet folder by the way.... and the License recovery tool tells me that ....
You can’t open the application “LicenseRecoveryLauncher” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
Where do I go from here please?

  • I upgraded from XP to 8.1 and the Bridge will not open.

Do I need to move a Bridge file into Programs(86) in order for the Bridge to run in a 64 bit environment?

You installed the software in Windows 8.1, right?  Just moving files won't work.

  • If I upgrade my 3rd gen iPod touch to iOS 5, will I lose all my content (photos, videos, notes, safari cookies, etc)?

So I've had my 3rd gen iPod for almost 5 years now, and I'm tired of all the "This applications requires iOS 5.0 or later; you must update to iOS 5.0 in order to download and use this application" notifications, and since I don't have enough money to buy the new iPod, I'm finally upgrading to iOS 5.1.1, the highest I can upgrade this generation.  In the event that it doesn't save my photos (Camera roll and the pictures I put on from my old computer that I don't have anywhere else), I have been uploading them one by one to Dropbox, but this is a pain.  Basically, I'm wondering: if I backup my iPod before upgrading the software, will it reapply all my settings and content after iOS 5 is installed?  I've begun the process before and have gotten the notification that all content will be deleted.  I don't have all this content on my computer, either, because the photo albums on my iPod were folders of pictures on my old computer that I lost all the files from.  I can't just put these back on from my computer if it deletes them and doesn't save a backup copy.  But does it save all the settings in a backup copy and reapply them?  That's what I want to know.  Do I have to keep bothering with Dropbox, or can I just go for it and know everything will be fine?

Only if something goes astray, which happens some times.
    - Backup the iTunes
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Make sure that all synced media like apps and music are in your iTunes library and any photos synced to the iPod are also on your computer. Synced media is not included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes
    Then update vai Tunes
iOS 4: Updating your device to iOS 5 or later
You need iTunes 10.5 or later on the computer.
