Upgrading from 10.4 to 10.6 and Boot Camp

I have installed Boot Camp beta on OS X (10.4) a few years back.
Now that I plan to upgrade my OS to Snow Leopard (which includes Boot Camp), does that mean that my Windows partition will be erased when I install SL? I don't want to lose all my Windows applications!

I recommend that you use the upgrade method if your Tiger install is a very good one. Otherwise, I would do an erase and install. The backup process I would use in either case is described below.
Your Mac must meet [these general requirements|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html]. I would not upgrade to SL unless I had an external drive with a bootable clone of my internal-drive boot volume on it. I think that there is enough risk upgrading to SL that such conservatism is warranted. I would not use time machine for an installation backup; I don't trust it enough. If you do not like SL, then you can restore your internal using the clone. In doing an upgrade install, the clone is your data backup and fail-safe device. You can clone with Disk Utility, SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you do an erase and install, then the clone also is your migration medium.
An SL upgrade install is performed by installing over your existing installation from the desktop or having started from your SL DVD. Doing so requires you to have a GUID partition. To proceed, start the installer, choose your language, start Disk Utility, make sure your partition is GUID, quit disk utility if it is and continue your installation. All your data, users settings, and apps will be present after your upgrade, except that incompatible programs will be archived in the Incompatible Software folder. It the partition is not GUID, then you will have to do an erase and install.
If you do an erase and install, then make sure your partition is GUID as described above. After you install, then you will be able to use set up assistant to migrate you date, apps, users, and settings to your new SL install. Also, if you have to make your partition GUID, then your drive will automatically be erased Mac extended (journaled). Finally, post back if you choose to do an erase and install. I have more info to provide.
You probably will want to install at least two of the optional install items on your Sno DVD, Rosetta and QT7. You can install either from the Optional Install Items folder on your on SL install DVD.
Leave your Ethernet cable, if any, in place when installing, but unplug all peripherals except those needed to install.

Tip for upgrading from MBP to iMac with Leopard & Parallels Boot Camp

Here are some pointers based on my recent experience upgrading from a MacBook Pro to an iMac, under Leopard and with Parallels using a Boot Camp partition for Windows.
First, you do not need to create a Windows partition on your new computer. You will use Boot Camp Assistant to do that - it can dynamically resize your existing Mac OS X partition without destroying it. (I initially used Disk Utility to create a Windows partition but it wasn't recognised properly by Parallels and also the Mac wouldn't boot from it).
A great way to simplify getting your old installation across is to make a Time Machine backup onto an external drive. Yes, you could also use start up your old Mac in Target mode (hold down T key when you start it), then start the new Mac and copy your settings over. But in my case, the new iMac (a refurb) came with Tiger installed on it while my old Mac had already been upgraded to Leopard.
I started the new Mac using a Leopard install CD (holding down the C key while starting). Then I chose to restore from a Time Machine backup instead of installing from CD, and soon had a functioning Leopard installation on the new Mac. Well, almost.
Next I used Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition on the new drive. The old Mac's partition was only 10 GB in size, but I made the new one 31.9 GB in size (so I could stay under the Windows limit of 32 GB for FAT partitions). I then quit without installing Windows.
On the old Mac, I used an external drive formatted as FAT and used Disk Utility to 'restore' my Windows partition to the external drive. Next I plugged that drive into the new Mac, and restored the external Windows partition to the new Mac's Windows partition. So far, so good. However, Parallels would not start this installation of Windows, and the new Mac would not boot into it (holding down the Option key at start-up did not show me a Windows drive).
I tried doing a repair of the Windows installation using a Windows install disk but that did not work. What did work was the following: I booted from the Window install CD, then started a new installation. I asked Windows to format the Windows partition on the new Mac, then powered off the new Mac as soon as Windows started copying files. Next, I rebooted the new Mac into Mac OS X, started Disk Utility, and again did a restore of the Windows partition on the external drive to the Windows partition on the new Mac.
The final step was to reboot the new Mac into Windows directly so that I could load drivers from the Leopard install CD. [I haven't done that yet, so I'm not sure it's necessary].

Sounds solid to me. If the Glyph was connected on a firewire port that is. This would free up the bandwith that way but actually it is hardly an issue with the Duet considering the limited inputs. But using the Glyph as a backup for your projects is good wise idea anyway.

The install of 2014 doesn't move or copy anything from a previous version, with the exception of settings. You can go into your Photoshop CC installation folder, navigate to your plugins folder and then just copy all the plugins you've installed from that folder and into the Photoshop CC 2014 plugins folder. The plugins should then be available in 2014 the next time you launch Photoshop.
The only thing that may prevent this from working is if you're using the 32bit version of Photoshop CC. Photoshop CC 2014 is 64bit only so 32bit plugins don't work. If this is the case for you, check out the manufacturer of the plugins and see if they have 64bit versions available.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

I have upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 and found that all folders/files/pics have pixelated (either white or black) patterns on them. But it turns out fine when i open up the affected files/folders/pics. And this phenomenon persists after updating software.

Since iPLM failed to help try the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

I believe there are NO upgrades for Student and Teacher editions but you can see here: Products
If the price is the same as an ordinary upgrade you are probably better off buying that because it can be upgraded in the future.

Recently upgraded from 7.1.1 to LV2009 and noticed LV 2009 is missing \vi.lib\DAQmx\ !!!

I recently upgraded from LV7.1.1 to LV2009 and noticed LV 2009 is missing \vi.lib\DAQmx\. I tried to copy my DAQmx library over from LV7.1.1\vi.lib and did a mass compile of that directory but the compiled files have a bunch of screwed up connector sinks showing as "void".
Anyone have any suggestions how I can acheive a proper DAQmx library within LV2009? Does LV2009 not come with DAQmx support??!!??

After you install LabVIEW (any version), you need to run the DAQmx installer to install support for it with LabVIEW. Even if you already had DAQmx installed, you still need to re-run the installer to install LabVIEW support.

Upgraded from osx snow leopard to lion and still no iCloud settings in System Preferences, why?

I have the exact same issue, and no Profiles for me under System. My system was upgraded from 10.6 as soon as Lion came out and I've never had the icon.
I have had iCloud set up by creating an account within Mail, Contacts & Calendars - but in this setup my Mobile Documents folder, my iCloud "Documents and Data", never synchronized with my other devices. That is why I began wondering why I don't have the iCon as I have seen other Macs that came with 10.7 installed factory.

There are no upgrades fo S&T versions. You simply buy a new S&T full license from your regional S&T reseller/ Adobe outlet.
