Mr. Lebowski,
Apple will give you 10% off a new iPod if you take your old one in to an Apple store, but if your fourth gen is still working, you'll probably get more than that if you sell it on ebay or something. Then you can put that money towards a new iPod. Then you won't need to find all those Creedence tapes little Larry must've pawned.
Cheers!

  • Questions regarding upgrade from 4th gen to 5th gen iPod

I recently received a new 80 gig 5th gen iPod and had 2 questions regarding it and my old 40 gig 4th gen. PC meets minimun requirements and is running XP Pro.
    1) Do I need to do anything before synching the new 5th gen iPod with my existing Library (i.e. uninstall iPod Updater for 4th gen)?
    2) If I don't need to uninstall the 4th gen Updater, can I run both iPods off the same Library, same user (obviously not simultaneously)?

    N/A   Windows XP Pro

    Hey, joggy!
    1) No, I don't believe you do. Be sure to disconnect the 4th gen iPod before connecting the 5th generation iPod to the computer.
    2) Yes, you can.
There are basically two methods with managing muleiple iPods on one computer:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each resgistered iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time, though.
For more details on this matter, check out Apple's Support article about it:

    I hope that helps you.

  • New software update for iPod touch 4th generation? PLEASE HELP!!

Ok so here is the problem: I have the iPod touch 4th generation with software version 4.3 (I have had my iPod for about 7 months) and recently within the past week or so I have started experiencing multiple crashes with many different various apps and games. Just random games crashing and then I noticed it happening with the Facebook app and even Safari on my iPod! I had to get off of my iPod and come on the computer to type this message out because Safari would crash every single time I tried to type this on my iPod! So at first I figured it was the apps and games' problems, but then as more and more began to crash, like Facebook and Safari, I figured it is the Apple software version 4.3 acting up. So I was wondering, is Apple working on a new software update for iPod touch 4th gen.? Or is this a rare problem? Is there anyone out there having this same problem? Or anyone at all that can PLEASE help me?! MANY THANKS!
    - Sam Amos

No one would know what Apple is working on, unless they announce, which they very rarely do.
Have you tried the basics from the manual?
    restart.
    reset.
    restore.

  • Battery from 4th generation ipod to 3rd generation

Hello all, i have a 4th generation 20gb ipod that is bust. I also have a 40gb 3rd generation ipod that has a rubbish battery. Can i take the battery from my 4th generation 20gb and put it in my 3rd generation 40gb? not sure if there are interchangeable or not. Any answers, pointers to websites etc very much appreciated!
    Thank you

    Thanks, Zevoneer.
If I correctly understand your response, I can safely use the Apple power adapter that came with my 4th Gen. click-wheel iPod to connect to and charge my new 5th Gen. iPod.
I tried connecting the new iPod to my computer with the Firewire cable tht came with the 4th Gen. iPod, but got an alert advising that the 5th Gen. would connect to the Mac ONLY with a USB cable.

  • Song quits in the middle on 4th generation iPod touch - HELP

My iPod touch 4th generation quits in the middle of a song.  Then it will play a song all the way through once or twice before it quits in the middle again.  How can I stop this?  Please help

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, and it does not connect to other networks, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Trading in 4th generation for 5th

I just got a new 4th generation last week becaus my old one broke, and i had the extended warranty. but now i have this brand new 4th generation while everyone else has new 5th generations. the 5th generation however is $300. which is the same cost as my new 40gb. so can i bring my new 40gb into an iPod store and exchange it for a 5th generation?

Did you buy it at an Apple store? I think they have a 14 day return policy (minus a restocking fee if the package is open).
    Call them and ask.

  • Can I update ios 5 from 4th generation ipod touch?

I want to buy the 4th generation ipod touch, but I also want the ios 5 installed into the ipod touch. However, I don't want to wait for the ios 5 release date in the fall to buy the ipod. Can I just download the ios 5 to the ipod directly? Or do I have to wait for the ios 5 release date to buy the ipod?

Check compatible devices at the bottom of this page.
    http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html
You will have to install iOS 5 via the iTunes update process.

  • How can I play songs from a specific genre in album order? (soundtracks) I just upgraded from and Ipod nano 5th generations and would like to be able to listen to my soundtracks without having to choose a different album all the time.

    Question says it all!

You really can't. However, you can create a new playlist and add whole albums at a time to it and then when you play it back, be sure that the shuffle is not enabled and then you can hear whole albums from a certain genre in album order

  • Problem upgrading from 10.6.4 please help

    Hi
My daughter has a 2009 iMac intel. She recently got an iPhone5 and surprise surprise it's not compatible with her OS.
She was on 10.6.4. I ordered Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update v1.1 and she tried installing it. It worked for about 2 hours then said cannot install requires 10.6.5, 10.6.6, 10.6.7 etc updates.
She download all these and when trying to install combo10.6.5 update got this error
    error -4960
We repaired disk permissions and followed this (see below) to no avail.
Found this in another thread from the appletoolbox site, given by user 'Chris'
    http://appletoolbox.com/2010/04/mac-os-x-10-6-3-fails-to-install/
This worked for me to install 10.6.5 and the file related errors (unidentified format etc.) went away with this. My install used to fail while the image was getting expanded/extracted.
The steps to do (as given in that site) are:
    1. Open Terminal (under Applications, Utilities)
    2. Type “sudo su” (without quotes)
    3. Type your password (you must have admin account)
    4. Type “sysctl kern.maxfiles” (this will show you the max open files allowed currently)
    5. Type “sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=####” replacing #### with a number much larger than your current maxfiles setting. For example, if your maxfiles is currently 12000 change it to 24000 or maybe 30000.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET THE UPDATES TO INSTALL?? And is it possible to just flatten the hard drive and install fresh from the 10.6.8 update v.1.1 DVD?
We would rather just upgrade incremetally if possible to keep all her stuff on the drive.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Nick

Download Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
You downloaded an incremental updater. You needed the combo updater above. The updaters cannot install a full version of OS X. For that you need the Snow Leopard installer DVD that came with your computer.

  • Upgrade from 1st generation iphone?

I bought the original Iphone when it first came out on June 29, 2007, and I haven't upgraded since; my question is can I go into an AT&T store and ask for an upgrade to the Iphone 3G S at little to no charge? Or am I going to have to buy the 3G S by itself and just possibly switch my old sim card into the new one??

    Hi,
You will most likely be eligible for an upgrade.
Try logging into your AT&T account and clicking Check Upgrade Options, from here: https://www.wireless.att.com
You can also check from the Apple online store here:

  • Upgrade from 3rd generation SSD worth it?

I bought in 2009 a 2.13ghz SSD Intel Core Duo. Memory 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3. Everything I read on new Air seems to put the improvement on the SSD but I already have this. Is an upgrade even worth considering? Thanks

You're jumping to conclusions. The Computerworld article you cite (a) in many instances compares the new MBA to Macs with slow conventional hard drives and (b) doesn't give any hard test results.
If you compare any MBA with an SSD with virtually any Mac with a 5400 RPM drive, Speedmark testing will show the MBA is much faster -- that doesn't mean that the new MBAs are faster than the old MBAs, it just means that SSDs are faster than spinning platters!
Similarly, be careful about WHICH MBA you're comparing: the October 2008 1.86 GHz MBA with SSD tested faster in Speedmark than the last-gen (June, 2009) 2.13 GHz MBA (179 vs 175).
When Speedmark results are posted and we can actually compare apples to apples, then we'll be able to determine whether the "new" MBAs are meaningfully faster than previous generations. Right now, I'm skeptical.
