Upgrading from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects XI R3

Hi Guys,
I am upgrading from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects XI R3.  The server which have Crystal Enterprise 10 is not on the network, please let me know to copy CMS database from CRE10 (Not on the network) to BOXIR3.
Burhan
Thanks

you will need access to the CMS DB and FRS from CE10 in order to migrate to XI 3.x, typically this is accomplished via network. If you can restore them to the same computer a side by side (install CE10 and XI 3.x on the same server) may work as well.

Tim

  • Upgrading from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects Enterprise 11

    Here's the situation:
We decided to upgrade from Crystal Enterprise 10 on server A to Business Objects Enterprise 11 on server B. We went with the method of importing all the objects and users from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects Enterprise 11. The import also brought in all the DB connection settings that were set in Crystal Enterprise 10. I also brought over all the ODBC System DSNs so that those can be consisten with the old server.
The problem we are having is that the reports are failing due to the connections to the database. I thought importing the database connection settings from Crystal Enterprise 10 along with bringing over the ODBC System DSNs would not make this an issue but it hasn't.
I checked the server logs in SQL and it's telling me that it's trying to log into the server as NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON. Shouldn't it try to log under whatever I define in the report's database settings or ODBC System DSNs?
These same reports work fine in Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise 10.

go into the properties of the report and verify that the Database Login values are still set.  I found that it doesn't always transfer those when doing the import.

  • Upgrade from Crystal Enterprise 9 to Crystal Server 2011

As I know, the latest version is Crystal Server 2011 which is a part of the Business Intelligence platform 4.0.  Is it correct ?
The manual says that Crystal Enterprise 9 CANNOT upgrade to Crystal Server 2011 directly.  It needs 2 steps.
    Crystal Enterprise 9  -
    >  Business Object XI R2  -
    >  Crystal Server 2011
But I cannot find any trial version of Business Object XI R2.  How can I test the upgrade?
Is there other method to upgrade?  E.g. transfer the oracle database to the new system?
    Regards,
    Kelvin

If you are paying maintenance, you should be able to ask for a key for XIR2 version.

CRS is limited to single server installs, it has less functionality such as no auditing. Enterprise can be clustered across many servers, has auditing and webi/deski from E6. So which one is best would depend on the size of your planned implementation and the features that you want.

  • Converting Crystal Report to Business Objects

I am looking at a requirement to convert some Crystal Reprts to Business objects. Perhaps one who has done this can advise some of the issues here. What is straightforward and not, how to go about, how do you convet formulas,. etc

Which Business Objects product are you looking to convert to? WEBi, DESKi, other?
If so there are no conversion utilities, reports would have to be rewritten. If the Crystal Reports were based off of a Universe then the same Universe could be used but a new webi or deki report written from scratch.

  • Migration from Crystal Enterprise 10 to SAP Crystal Server 2011

    Hi all,
We are currently using Crystal Enterprise 10 to schedule and view our reports and the designer is Crystal Reports 10 .
we are planning to migrate to SAP Crystal Server 2011 with Crystal Reports 2011 as the designer. Can we do this migration directly or do we need to do the migration to an intermediate version before going to SAP Crystal Server 2011.
    Regards,
    Sreekanth S S

    1. So in this case, I need to migrate from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Crystal Reports Server XI R2/Crystal Reports Server 2008 or more using import wizard Then I will need to migrate from Crystal Reports Server XI R2/Crystal Reports Server 2008 to SAP Crystal Server 2011 using Upgrade Manager tool. Is my inference correct?
That is correct. For XI R2, it would be XI R2 SP2 minimum. And you need to have a live installation of XI R2 SP2 as SAP does not have it in archieve download area.
2.What is the potential risk if we try to migrate from Crystal Enterprise 10 to SAP Crystal Server 2011 using upgrade manager tool?
I am not sure if that will work with success, If the reports migrated from CE10 do not work in CRS2011, it would be unsupported. You can however try it anyways.
3.Can we open the reports developed using Crystal Reports 10 designer in Crystal Reports 2011 designer? .This is for another requirement of us where we have to just migrate the reports alone .
Yes you can do that. Try opening and running them in CR2011, they should work but some of them can also result in some errors here and their, this is more specific to report design and what kind of grouping\ filtering\formulas you use.

  • How to run crystal report in business objects xi 3.1 sp3 enterprise

hi, i created crystal reports thru crystal reports 2008, i have the crystal reports locally on my machine. the source for the crystal report is stored procedure to get the data from database
the main thing is i need to import these reports into business objects xi 3.1 and i need to run the report in business objects. the bo server is on solaris and the reports i have r in my local machine (i.e windows).
i am using this way to import the report into bo server.
In Crystal Reports: File>Save As>My Connections (Define your BO Server) and save the reports to your BO Server.
but the main thing is i cannot run the crystal report in cmc. what am i doing wrong, do i need to set any database configuration in business objects ?

Normally you should run your CR reports in the INfoView. You can start a report either by double clicking on it or by selecting View in the context menu. Still in order to fetch data you have to press the Refresh button in the CR viewer window (in the InfoView).
In the CMC I assume that you are using the Run now option in the context menu. Please note that this will just schedule your report immediatelly. hen the report is scheduled a new instance is created hich is available in the History of the report. In order to see a report in the CMC select again View in the context menu and you can again fetch data by pressing the Refresh button.

  • Crystal Reports to Business Objects

    Hi Gurus,
Please help me out with your valuable suggestions. Here is my scenario,
Very recently my client implemented Business Objects for their Corporate reporting in place of Crystal Enterprise.
There are about 400+ reports that to be converted in Business Objects. In the phase 1 we planned to convert the High priory reports of about 80 + reports.
Our game plan is to convert CR to Universes and then after using Universes >>>webi reports. Please suggest me whether we are going in the right path.
After analyzing the reports I found like we are using about 65-80 tables over all. Please suggest me, Can I create a single Universe and point the 70 reports to that single Universe or do I need to create a single universe for single crystal report.
Moreover, we are upgrading my back end too. But in future some of the tables, fields may exist or not. As the Back-end is also in the initial phases. So please suggest how to convert the CR to Universe with back-end modification.
As having discussion with client. User have no experience in creating any sort of reporting, All they need is exact the same report in Business Objects.
Please post me your valuable suggestion.

    Hello,
    Here a are few tips:
    - How many different data sources are used?
A Business Objects universe can only point at one data source (there are some workarounds for this). Therefore it's quite important to know how many different data sources are involved.
    - Complexity of reports
When developing complex reports in webi you'll find that you can't always meet the requirements by using standard webi functionality.
In that case you will have to move some of the more complex calculations to the universe. Therefore it's not uncommon for a very complex report to have one universe but in most case a universe will serve multiple webi reports.
    - Ad-hoc reporting.
From reading your post I donu2019t think this is very relevant to you but I mention it anyway.
If users want to use the universe for ad-hoc reporting, always make sure that you give proper business descriptions to the dimension and measure objects.
Also, it's important that you don't try to stuff everything into one universe as this will confuse the business users. Try to divide the universes into the logical business areas i.e. finance, HR, Purchasing etc.
    - Training / Involve the Business
Have you considered training a few web intelligence super users that can help converting some webi reports?
If you involve the Business users at an early stage of the project, the reaction to the change of reporting system will be a lot more positive.
    - Make the reports more intuitive
Instead of simply re-developing all the reports in exactly the same way as they were developed in Crystal look for ways to enhance the usability.
Business Objects has many great features that could help with this i.e. input controls, data tracking, profiles, dynamic recipients etc).
Also, you will find a lot of duplication i.e. multiple version of the same report with different prompts. You should possibly try to consolidate those reports.
    Best regards
    Rim Geurts
EDIT: Like Fritz mentioned, you probably don't need to migrate all of the reports because you can simply migrate you Crytsal report to te new BO environment

  • Upgrading from Crystal Reports Server V0 to V1

We're looking into upgrading Crystal Reports Server V0 to V1.  According to the upgrade guide we have to do a complete uninstall of our V0 before installing V1.  It seems risky to uninstall before we have a working version of the upgrade.  Wondering if anyone out there has gone through this process and if so what were your experiences?  Did you have a method to test the upgrade process before uninstalling V0?
    Thanks!

    Ajith,
Thanks 4 ur response, but when I ge there, all i could see is web page with the following

As part of the migration from the legacy ESD site, every effort has been made to ensure all legacy products have been transferred from the ESD site to the SAP Support Portal.
There are exceptions where some products are now only available in physical format. These products are outlined below:
    Crystal Reports Visual Advantage 2008
    Crystal Enterprise 10
    Crystal Enterprise 8.5
    Crystal Enterprise 9
    Crystal Reports 10
    Crystal Reports 8.5

  • Migrating Unmanaged Reports from CE 10 to Business Objects XI R2

    Hello all,
We are in the process of migrating our report server from CE 10 to BOJ XI R2.
I'm having issues trying to access Unmanaged Reports using a URL. In CE10 we were able to access unmanaged reports using a URL such as HTTP://<servername>/crystal/enterprise10/MyReport.rpt
But now in BOJ XIR2, when accessing reports using an equivalent URL such as http://<servername>/businessobjects/MyReport.rpt
    or
http://<servername>/businessobjects/enterprise115/MyReport.rpt I get the below error
    WCA plugin error
Message:An exception has occurred in the plugin with message:
Failed to initialize viewrpt component, with path
    <INSTALLDIR>/bobje/enterprise115/solaris_sparc/wcs/components/libwcs_xn_reportviewer.so.
    Component may be unavailable.
Is this approach not supported now? I know that in CE10 this approach was deprecated but still supported ( as mentioned in note "1217747 - Unmanaged URL web reporting does not work in Crystal Reports 9 (and later) " )
Or, is there something I'm doing wrong?
Is there a simple work around, short of hosting all the reports on the enterprise server and using any SDK.
    Thanks for your help.
PS:  I copied libwcs_xn_reportviewer.so from CE10 to the required dir in BOJ, and tried again. This time the library error was on another library. Error keeps cascading and I stopped. I know this is not the right approach, but this tells me they must have removed/changed this feature.
    Previous Setup that works
Crystal Enterprise 10 on Solaris 8
    Sybase 12
    Weblogic
New Setup that I'm having issue with
Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 on Solaris 10. Installed SP2 followed by SP5
MySQL  ( for testing only )
    tomcat ( for testing only)

The first thing you will want to do is to publish all of your reports to Business Objects XI and make sure they all still work. Obviously they won't have the dynamic parameters anymore but you should just ensure they all work and are able to connect to their databases. You can use a tool like the publishing wizard to help you.
All the reports should now be available inside of XI.
Unfortunately you will need to manually modify all of the 400 reports to use the business objects Dynamic Cascading Parameters DCP.
There should be some DCP info in the Business Views documentation.
    I hope this helps

  • Report Writer - Converting from MS Access to Business Objects Tools

In 2008, my company migrated to SAP.  Security has forced all report writing to use business objects (specifically WEBI); however, WEBI is very very difficult to use.  The data in the universe doesn't always match what SAP has and the tool itself doesn't give the robust manipulation that Access does.  I have tried to tell the company I need access to the universes through MS Access in order to create the reports automatically and allow interactive databases; however they refuse to give me ODBC access (against policy).  Right now I have no alternative but to do daily downloads from SAP in order to feed my robust databases.
Can anyone suggest what business object tool I should use that will replicate what MS Access does for me?
Easy report writing with robust design (including charts)
Easy front-end tool for end users
    One to many relationships needed
Efficient/Automatic (no need for daily downloads)
End users can interact with reports (enter data for later analysis)
What about Crystal Reports?  What are the limitations and can it do what MS Access does for me today?
Should I be posting this question in another forum?

    Hi Amy,
CR 2008 is the complimentary version of CR Designer when connecting to BOE 3.1. You can get an update to Service Pack 3 and then possible SP 4:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100007123572010E/cr2008_sp3.exe
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100008782452011E/cr2008sp4.exe
But before you do that check with the BOE admin, SP's should match also but not required.
They should work together, When you use the Report Wizard you'll see an option to connect to Enterprise and then log in using your User account and then the Repository will have the Universes available. Remember this is all set up by the Administrator so you will need the Admin person to grant you access to the Repository as well as anything else you need access to. Once you create the report then you can Publish them to your folder or a common folder and the Admin can then share your reports.
WEBI is what the name implies, it's a WEB interface to allow you to create reports using it's Report Wizard. It does take some getting used to and you should have training available, check with your admin group again. Same as CRD, it tool allows you to create reports but is much more flexible than WEBI is in a few ways but once you understand how WEBI works it has some very powerful tools also.
CR allows you to access any database field you have permission to see, it fully supports database permissions. So if you can't see them again you have to ask your DBA to grant you permissions. You can then link tables including your late entry table if it is separate or simply hitting the refresh button in the viewer will requery the DB for new rows of data. All depends on how it's set up.
As for security, this is a decision your company has made. SAP is just a tool that allows you to be secure. With today's security threats and other privacy laws and hackers abilities to get to and cause personal harm to those affected it's just the way things are these days. Take this up with your Management, it's not something we can decide for you and certainly can't provide you with ways to circumvent the security.....
There is training available for both WEBI and CR as well as third party Help for books available. Downloading the sample reports is a great place to start, you can switch between Design and preview mode and see what happens when you make changes....
    Thanks again
    Don

  • Migrating reports from Crystal Enterprise 8.5 to BO Enterprise 11.5

    Hi,
We have an application configured on Crystal Enterprise 8.5 that uses unmanaged url reports method. Now we have to migrate the application to Business Object Enterprise 11.5. We are done with the installation of Business Object Enterprise 11.5 and configured the application on the new server, but the reports are not working. When we access these reports using URL http://HOST_NAME/VirtualDirectory/Report_Name.rpt?Init=ACTX:Connect we get the message "The page cannot be displayed".
I am are not able to find the exact reason behind this behavior. We have also checked the mapping of extensions in IIS and found that the every extension (i.e. .rpt, .csp ect) of crystal  is mapped to aspnet_isapi.dll, where as in Crystal Enterprise 8.5 these are mapped to wcsinsapi.dll. Is there is some issue with the installation?
    Thanks!

    Hi Tim,
    Thanks for the reply.
I searched the forum and found the link to [url|http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2SP2/en/en/BOE_SDK/boesdk_java_dg_doc/doc/boesdk_java_dg/URLreporting_new.html] which specifies the process to use URL Reporting for Crystal Reports . But to implement this we have to change the architecture of our existing application as presently we are directly accessing the report in URL to run the report. I was not able to found any solution that implements this architecture.
Does Business Object Enterprise 11.5 still supports this architecture?
If we use the architecture specified in the above URL for URL Reporting for Crystal Reports  then how we can migrate all our reports to BOE 11.5? We have to use the Publish Wizard for that, to get the ids for our reports?
There was a parameter APSTOKEN how can we get a token. Can it be a static token that can be used by all the users to access the reports?
    Thanks!

  • Upgrade from crystal report 4 to crystal report 11

hi,i have an old application developed use vb5.0 and crystal report 4,
now i want to upgrade it to vb6.0 and cystall report 11, does the cystal report 4 and 11 are compatiable?

    Hello,
Crystal Report 4.6 reports are pretty old.  There have been 3 or 4 major code rewrites to Crystal Reports between CR 4.6 to CR XI.  I think your CR 4.6 reports will run from CR XI but I can't be sure.  I haven't seen CR 4.6 in quite a few years and have never tested it.  You will probably want to update the old reports to CR XI.  To update the reports open them in CR XI and save them in the CR XI format.  Please be sure to keep back up copies of the original CR 4.6 reports.
Your VB application will have to be migrated to a different component.  The Crystal OCX (crystl32.ocx) that was available in CR 4.6 was retired after CR8.5. In order to run your CR XI reports you'll need to migrate your VB6 application to the Report Designer Component (RDC) object model.
There are a number of documents that will help you with the code migration.  Here are some links:
[Migrating to the RDC in CR9|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/105181db-cb1d-2b10-38a4-b0a30e268e40] - applies to CR 9/10/11/11.5
Upgrading from CR4.6 to CR9/10/11/11.5 is essentially the same. The above document was written for CR9 specifically; however it will work for CR10/11/11.5. You will have to make minor adjustments to account for DLL file name changes (e.g. crviewer9.dll in CR9 vs. crviewer.dll in CR10/11/11.5).
You will also want to review the changes to [database connectivity|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/0003c6cc-891e-2b10-678e-8b1a2dd96556] at runtime from earlier versions of Crystal Reports compared to CR XI.
Here's the link to the [Online SDK Library|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/developer/library] - this includes the RDC SDK.
    [RDC 10 Sample Applications|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006012702008E/rdc10_smpl.exe].
Please note that the RDC has been retired with the release of Crystal Reports 2008. Crystal Reports XI Release 2 (v11.5) is the last version of Crystal Reports that is shipping with the RDC. While you can migrate your application to the RDC for CR XI or CR XI R2 you may want to start planning for future releases of your application since the RDC will no longer be available. The upgrade path for the RDC is to move to the CR .NET object model.  Here is the [RDC Statement of Direction|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/80bd35e5-c71d-2b10-4593-d09907d95289].
    I hope this help.
    Sincerely,
    Dan Kelleher

  • Simple sample code to display a Crystal Report from Crystal Enterprise?

I am looking for a sample application that will "simply" view a report stored on our Crystal Enterprise server. I have looked at "boesdk_net_samples_12.zip", but that isn't really what I am looking for. And, the "CrystalReportViewer" and "CrystalReportSource" add ins for Visual Studio seem to only work with a "local" file (instead of one Managed or UnManaged on our Crystal Enterprise server).
Can anyone point me to the right place? (Navigating the SAP site is so damn confusing!)

    Hi Shayne,
You are not clear on how you will know which report you want and for which user? You can query the CMS database for the user and get all of their reports but without knowing which report object ID to get you will need to have the user select one. Unless you simply assume you want the last one, but if you don't give them a choice and they miss one day, or what ever your parameter is to select, there will be no way to get back to that report.
For sample code on how to query the BOE Server look in the Enterpise SDK samples. You do need to use managed code. I don't suggest going into the FRS\output folder to use unmanaged reporting. There are a lot of folders created and it's easier to simply query the CMS database to get the latest instance.
Since you have BOE you should also have a support contract. I suggest you log a case on line in Service Market Place and get a dedicated Engineer to assist you.
This may be simply easier for you to use the Personal Favorites folder of the user so they can browse all report instances belonging to them. I suggest you talk to the BOE Administrator for more info on what BOE is capable of doing. what you want is fairly easy to manage with Enterprise itself.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Subreport doesn't work when upgrading from Crystal 7 to Crystal 2008

I am using a subreport, whose input parameter is input to the Stored procedure.
This used to work fine in Crystal 7. But now we upgraded to crystal 2008.
The same code throws an exception. can any one please help?
Here is the piece of code of stored proc
    ALTER PROCEDURE SUMMARYACTIVITY(@HcpID varchar(8)) AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT @HcpID, RX_PROD_ID, RX_PROD_DESCR, DATE_REP_TERR, NOTE, SAMP_VOUCHER, DISP_ORDER FROM #SUMACT ORDER BY DISP_ORDER DESC, RX_PROD_DESCR ASC
    END
even as simple as select @hcpID is throwing exception.
    I have another stored proc.
ALTER PROCEDURE PRODSUMMARY (@HCP_ID VARCHAR(8)) AS
    BEGIN
    CREATE TABLE #PDSUM
              HCP_ID               CHAR(8) NOT NULL,

                        @HCP_ID, V.PROD_ID,.....from vw_pcp v
    SELECT      HCP_ID, RX_PRODID, ..... from #pdsum
    END
This works in crystal 7 and 2008.

    Hi
    Just a few points.
    1. Are you opening the existing report (Created in CR 7) in Crystal 2008?
    2. If yes,I would suggest you to create a new report based on the same stored procedure.Create a new DSN for the database that you are using and the create a report based on that DSN and pointing to the mentioned Stored Procedure.
