Upgrading from CS4

Hi,
I'm wondering what (if any) are my options for upgrading.
I've got InDesign CS4, and
Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver CS5.
All ME versions. All individual licenses.
I definitely want to upgrade to the new InDesign (why? most useful
feature for me: the Word import seems much better than in CS4).
Thing is I would like a new Acrobat as well (still on the Acrobat that
came with my CS2 Premium suite).
It would also be nice to have access to Flash and Flex.
But I don't need the new versions of Illy, PS, or Dreamweaver.
I would like a proper license, not the cloud.
It's not clear to me whether there still is an ME version, or whether
all versions now have support for ME languages?
Do you know what the best upgrade path would be in my case?

Yes. There's still an ME version.
Once you are upagrading ID and Acrobat, the whole Suite probably makes sense. (Especially since you will not be able to upgrade the other apps in the future if you don't do it now.) There used to be an upgrade path from individual prodcuts to the suites. I don't know if that still exists.
Whether you go for the ME or Roman versions depends on whether something like World Tools would be enough for you.
It's very likely that Creative Cloud is your cheapest option. ME versions will not be available on launch of Creative Cloud, but I heard through the grapevine that it will probably be available later this year. That's about all I can say on a public forum...

Upgrade from CS4 to CS5.5. did not go smoothly, now stuck at CS5 - how do I fix the installation?

Hi There,
I had a lot of issues upgrading from CS4 (Adobe Application Manager crashing, installer not opnening etc) but managed to get the installer to run by using the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool to remove all traces of CS4.
However, when the installer finished, it stated there were errors and now the installers won't run - nor can I run updates from the CS apps that did install.
I've normally never had any issues upgrading, so am not sure why I had so many issues and the best way forward from here - Hoping I don't have to remove all the CS5 apps, use the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool again and start from the begining.
I'm trying to install Master Collection CS5.5 on Mac OS 10.7.2
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Have had to hang up as I was calling the US using a New Zealand Mobile while in Portugal (long story) - and the 11 minute wait time would've cost the same amount as the CS5.5 upgrade!
I had to call the US because:
The New Zealand support number listed on the Adobe site doesn't work
New Zealand is not listed as a country Adobe suppoprt will call back from the "Schedule a callback" page
What a joke.
I used the Adobe Support Adviser app to analyze the install error log and it provided me with a very helpful link to a support page that states "You can ignore this error and launch the products you were installing."
Unfortunately, nothing was installed.
I need to do work while a long way from home and can't use/install any CS5 apps - does anyone know how to install CS5 in Lion?

My family owns and operates a non-franchise entertainment facility (miniature golf, laser tag, arcade, pizza, parties...). I have a design background, so among the many things I do here I'm also able to create marketing materials and an online presence in-house which would be too expensive for us to outsource. Over a five year period, that's given us a software cost of right at $1 per day since our CS3 license ran around $1800. Our customers are the public, and the package we try to push for walk-in traffic costs $50 for four people. In exchange, they get unlimited mini golf, a game of laser tag, and a large pizza. Not a bad deal. If we were to earn $1800 from that group of four every five years, assuming they spent $50 each visit, that'd bring them here close to two times every three months. For our type of business in a city of 118,000 tight-fisted Germans, that's about right.
What, are you trying make me feel GUILTY about being upset that Adobe's new strategy negatively affects my livelihood?
As far as Adobe's policy change announcement goes, I have no idea how it was announced. I DO know I was not sent an email notification, though they have my email address and record that I'm a CS3 owner. Presumably it was announced somewhere on Adobe's website, and further disseminated through various digital and print trade publications. I respect Adobe's right to not reverse its decision. If our business decided to put a sign on the front doors (since we don't have contact info for all of our past customers) saying we'd closed that night at 5 PM instead of 11 PM as usual, we aren't obligated to let in latecomers. But I'd also recognize their right to be mad at us for wasting their travel time. What I WOULDN'T do is tell them it's THEIR fault for not being proactive and calling ahead to confirm the expectation that our hours are still the same as they've been for the last decade. NOR would I be surprised if we didn't get their $50 that month. These Germans tend to hold grudges.

Upgrade from CS4 Extended Education to CS6

Two questions here. I purchased the educational version of CS4 Extended back when I was in school. No longer in school, I wish to upgrade to CS6 non-educational. First question: Can I upgrade using my educational licence to a non-educational one? Second question: Can I upgrade from CS4 Extended to CS6 Standard? I have no need of the extras with Extended.

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

Photoshop CS6 upgrade from CS4 continually asks for serial number.

I purchased an upgrade from Photoshop CS 4 to Photoshop CS 6 directly from Adobe in December of 2012. (My version of CS4 was originally purchased by me as part of a CS4 Web Premium Suite.)
My CS4 version has worked since 2009 with no licensing issues.
I did not install the upgradeto CS6 immediately, I just installed it in August of this year, but I do not think that the problem stems from my delay in installation.
What happens is that every 6-8 times that I open the program, I get a screen asking me to "License Creative Cloud", which I do NOT want.
The only options I am given are: Join Now, License This Product, or Continue Trial.
If I simply X out of the screen, Photoshop CS6 will not open at all.
If I click: License This Product, I get a sign-in screen that asks for my serial number, which I fill in and then my program opens.
I have tried customer support 3 times - one chat and 2 phone calls (all lasting at least 1 hour each time) and I am not getting the correct help to solve this issue.
I am extremely frustrated and outraged that I am bothered by this stupid issue.
Please help me to stop this screen about Creative Cloud from appearing and from having to constantly input my serial number.

CS5 upgrade from CS4 - plugins question

Hi -
can anyone refer me to a list of steps to move all of my plugins from CS4 to CS5 as part of the upgrade?
My plugins are:
Anthropics portrait pro 10
Image Trends - Fisheye hemi, pearly whites and shine-off
Nik Software - NIk sharpener, color efex, silver efex
onONE - mask pro 4
picture code - noise ninja
Power Retouche
Photo Frame 4
PhotoTools Pro 2.6
I don't really want to run both versions of photoshop... I've done that in the past and never once went back to the old once I upgraded... but open to advice there, too.

You can only use those plug-ins in CS5 that have been upgraded by their particular software developer to run in 64 bits.
CS4 and earlier versions of Photoshop were 32-bit Carbon applications. CS5 is Cocoa and runs in Snow Leopard in 64 bits. You will need to get the updated 64-bit versions of your plug-ins from each of their developers.
Otherwise you'll need to run CS5 in 32 bits, with a corresponding loss in performance and any other consequences of running in 32 bits.

Third Party Plug-Ins have disappeared on upgrade from CS4 to CS5

Hello Folks,
I have recently upgraded from PS CS4 to CS5 and now, on looking through the Plug-Ins available fromthe Menu - Help - About Plug-In --, I see that my 3rd Party Plug-Ins (NOT the Plug-Ins which had previously been installed automatically by CS4 and are now no longer installed by CS5 as a matter of course), such as Akvis / Bokeh / Imagenomic and many others, are no longer shown.
Has anyone else out there experienced the same problem due to this upgrade? If so, I would be grateful if someone could advise as to whether there is some solution readily available OR, is it a case of having to re-install the 3rd Party Plug-Ins one by one??
This did not happen when I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 - all my 3rd Party Plug-Ins made that transition quite successfully.
For information purposes, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on a 32 bit system mode.

Yes it did. You just don't remember having to deal with it.
Photoshop does not ever install in the same folder as a prior version. Thus CS5 will not see the plug-ins that have been installed in or under the Adobe Photoshop CS4\plug-ins folder.
Thus you will need to install your plug-ins again, pointing them at the CS5 area. Some (as mentioned above) may need to be upgraded.

I recently upgraded from DW CS4 to DW CS6, but I can't see my DW extensions in CS6 ? How do i get to them ? Will I need to reinstall from scratch ? Thanks in Advance.

In the tools drop down I see Import... but I'm not sure where to import the Cs4 extensions from. ???

I have Creative Suite design premium for PC (CS4) and I want to upgrade it to CS5.5. I am a student as a graphic designer, but I can't find anything about buying upgrades as a student, only full products?
How do I do this?

That may depend on how long you plan remaining a student and whether you are ever going to upgrade again, I guess.... Yes, of course, in your situation the price difference wouldn't be that big, but otherwise there is no problem anywhere here - CS5.5 installs independently from CS4 and even student licenses may be used for the occasional commercial work...

Upgrading from CS4 Design Standard to CS5.5 Design Standard

Hopefully a simple question. I am currently running CS4 Design Standard and wish to upgrade to CS5.5 Design Standard. My version of CS4 itself was an upgrade from the full installation version software of CS2 (I managed to skip the CS3 stage using a previous Adobe upgrade deal). Am I right in thinking that although the CS4 was an upgrade package it is now my 'standard platform' so to speak, and therefore I can use upgrade software again to take me up to CS5.5? I have the serial number for the CS4 software.

Hi, I really need to upgrade my Adobe suite from CS4 to CS5 or higher. From reading in this forum you are unable to do it, but those posts were from 2012. Wondering if this is still current and if anyone can help me? Do I need to buy the entire suite again from scratch? Surely not?

You cannot upgrade from Photoshop CS4. Those days are long past.
While you can buy a full license for (the now outdated) Photoshop CS6, your most cost effective alternative may be to consider the Creative Cloud "Photographer's Bundle" subscription...

Upgrade from CS4 to CS5--what functions in CS4 do I lose?

By grading from CS5 to CS4, what functions will I lose in CS4? I see that the "upgrade" button is greyed out in CS4. Anything else?

Just to be clear (and I don't think I was originally)...the upgrade is from CS4 to CS5. I see that CS4 is still available and operating. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't become "dead" after upgrading to CS5.

I would call Adobe Customer Support again and ask for a manager!
The price that was quoted was that for upgrading from Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop CS3 Extended to Photoshop CS4 Extended as opposed to an upgrade from Photoshop CS4 to Photoshop CS4 Extended which should be approximately $300 (the difference between the price a new license for Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 Extended). Ask for a manager and hopefully they will understand what you are talking about. (Contact me via e-mail off-forum if you still have problems!)

Which plan is best for Student upgrading from CS4?

I'm a student who has previously purchased CS4 design premium. I want to upgrade to Adobe CC but I'm not sure which plan will give more savings in the long term. The student plan is cheapest but only for the first year, after that the terms states it will revert back to the "then standard price"?. The individual plan for previous CS owners is also slightly cheaper than the current standard pricing but there is no time limit. So which subscription plan is better?Which
