Upgrading From FCP 3....Questions

Is FCP 3 upgradable to the newest version of FC Studio? Does FCP 3 need to be installed on the computer in order for the upgrade to happen? Can FCP 3 be installed on an Intel Mac?

At times, people Apple selects to tests the application before it's released with receive a NFR package/license as a result.
Not For Resale.
Other times, reviews as well, or similarly situated individuals may receive NFR licenses.
Can't upgrade them

  • Will a FCP 3.0.4 upgrade from FCP 1 load onto a new Mac Pro

Will a FCP 3.0.4 upgrade from FCP 1 load onto a new Mac Pro. I have tried loading in onto a mac book with no luck. I think its because my original FCP 1 loades using OS9 and because the new Mac Pro does not have an old operating system on it I cant load my original FCP.

You should upgrade to FCP 5.1 or 6 as Jerry says.
However, if you are desperate you could try this :-
Install just your FCP 3 upgrade and also put in your FCP 1 serial number when asked.
Whenever you try to open FCP you will probably get an error message. Click the "esc" key and FCP should open.

  • FCS 2 Upgrade from FCP 2?

I have a question about the upgrade to FCS 2. In the Apple store it says you can upgrade from an old version including FCP 2. I have a legit FCP 2 install disc so I assume this would work, but I'm not exactly sure how. FCP 2 is an OS 9 only app and the machine I want to upgrade does not have it on there--we are not running FCP 2 anywhere. Does the old version have to be installed for the upgrade? In the past updgrades for FCP / FCS have required the "original install disc" to be inserted. Is there anyone at the store.apple.com that I can contact about this? I thought there was a chat, but I can't find it now. (I'm in Micronesia and the closest Apple store is at least 1000 miles away.) Any suggestions appreciated.

The old version does not have to be installed. You merely have to enter the serial number for the older version when prompted.

  • I've tried upgrading from FCP 10.0.1 to the newest version and I cannot do it. It does not pop up on the App Store. Is this an upgrade or do I have to buy it again?

I've been trying to export my videos after installing the Mavericks upgrade and FCP does not let me. On one of the forums I was told to upgrade to FCP 10.6.
Is this a free upgrade or do I have to buy the newest version again?

The current version is 10.0.9. The update to 10.0.9 from 10.0.1 is free. Log in to the App Store *with the same Apple ID used to buy the application* and click on "Updates".

  • Free upgrade from FCP Studio (5) to FCPX?

I have plunked down a couple of euros a few years ago to get Final Cut Pro Studio (v5.1).
Is there a way I can "convert" or "trade in" my FCP Studio for FCPX?

No. FCP X is a completely new application, sold only through the Mac App Store. There is no upgrade from old versions. Anyway, in the old days even an upgrade would cost at least as much as the whole cost of FCP X...

  • First time linking from FCP. Question regarding normalizing.

    Hello,
I am linking from FCP for the first time. I would like to normalize a number of clips of dialogue. I can do it clip by clip, but when I select a series of clips at the same time, the Normalize feature is grayed (inaccessible). Is there a way to normalize multiple clips at the same time?
    Thanks.
    DG

Even if you could normalize all the clips at once, I don't think you would want to. If they could all be normalized together, you would be normalizing based on the highest peak on one of the audio clips, which would raise or lower all of the audio levels inconsistently. That is unless all of the audio is near identical.

I purchased a new MacBook and moved my copy of FCP X from my mac pro, which had a non supported video card.  Now however, I cannot upgrade FCP X on the MacBook.

  • Upgrade from old MBP questions; SSD Startup Drive w/HDD Storage Drive?

Hi!  I currently have a 2.4 GHz Core Duo 13" Macbook (old) with 160 Gb HDD and 2 GB of memory/RAM (4 years old in February).  I love the OS and how everything (computer, iPhone, camera, internet, etc) all sync up together and how easy everything is to use; I don't think I could buy another computer that wasnt an Apple.
My laptop is sadly slowly showing signs of sluggishness and the battery life is not doing so well...  also, I am starting to get sick of looking at such a small screen.  I am considering upgrading to a new 15" Macbook Pro but am concerned as to whether or not to upgrade to a SSD (mainly for the lightning fast boot time). With an already steep price tag, I am very reluctant to shell out an extra $550 for a smaller 256 GB (albiet SSD) hard drive.
I have a few questions before I decide to upgrade and am seeking some assistance from a knowledgable community to assist in my decision making...
    1)  In regards to comparing the 13" Dual Core to the 15" Quad Core - is the processor making THAT big of a difference as far as how quick the OS and programs are running?  I had a friend bring this up and although I stated I would like to upgrade to a larger screen, the $$ makes a lot of difference...
    2)  Regarding the SSD's...
         a)  Are they truely worth it?
         b)  Is there a "third-party" vendor where I can purchase a similar sized SSD and upgrade/install myself for less than the $550 Apple is asking for?  (256 GB or larger)
         c)  Does either notebook (13" or 15") have the internal capacity to house a second hard drive to hold the OS and boot programs (SSD Boot/Start-Up Disc)? My thoughts here are to have a large capacity HDD for storage (music files, documents, mail, programs/apps, etc) and much smaller SSD used simply to get a lightning fast boot-up time.
         d)  Is the technology expected to take a turn in the near future (6 months to a year) to either become the standard or greatly reduce cost?  Should I wait?
    3)  What to do with my old Macbook... is there a place to sell it to get cash to cover the cost of the new notebook?  What is the most efficient way of migrating data from the old hard drive into the new?
Your thoughts/speculation/opinion are greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for your responses to help me through this dilemma.
    Thank You,

    2.
    a) yes, I had an HDD and switched to a 3rd party SSD.  So I am speaking from firsthand experience.
    b) yes, check here: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ as an example.
    c) yes.  you need to remove the optical drive and use something like this: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other+World+Computing/DDAMBS0GB/
    d) who knows?  if you need something now get it, if not wait
    3. try craigslist or eBay.  To get old data from old hdd to new hdd use a cloning program such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper!  you will need an external enclosure for the new hdd..with the new hdd in the external enclosure plug it into  usb port on the new mac, clone the old drive to the new one.  make sure to format the new hdd a mac os extended (journaled).  swap drives.

  • Upgrade from V1.5 questions ...

Morning folks! I am currently running audition V1.5, and upgraded to that version from Cool Edit V2.1. I am a registered user of version 1.5.
The time has come to buy a new computer, and because of that I will need to upgrade audition to the latest version. I have two questions:
    1) I no longer have the install binary for V1.5. Will I be able to install the V3 upgrade package on my new computer and will it work ok without the 1.5 version on there??
    2) I have many recording sessions done with V1.5. Are these compatible with V3, will I be able to open them ok??
    Thanks for your time :)
    ~Dave

    This from the readme file:
When installing a new version of Adobe Audition 3.0, you will be required to enter the serial number. If you are installing an upgrade and the installer cannot find the previous version on your hard drive, you will need to enter both the new 24-digit serial number that was included with the upgrade and the serial number from your previous version.
Can't answer your question about opening 1.5 sessions, though
I have 1.0 and 3.0 will open them. Going backwards though
    is a problem.

  • Is it still possible to upgrade from FCP 6 to FCP 7?

Been using 6 forever. Client brought me a project on 7. Need to upgrade but not sure it's possible with the FCP X train wreck.

Or ask the client to do an xml export (version 4 I think).  This should open in fcp6.
If the client's unwilling or unable to do it, If you ask real nice and send me the project file, I'll do the conversion for you.  My email is in my profile.  Zip the project file before attaching to an email.

  • CS5 upgrade from CS4 - plugins question

    Hi -
can anyone refer me to a list of steps to move all of my plugins from CS4 to CS5 as part of the upgrade?
    My plugins are:
    Anthropics portrait pro 10
Image Trends - Fisheye hemi, pearly whites and shine-off
Nik Software - NIk sharpener, color efex, silver efex
    onONE - mask pro 4
    picture code - noise ninja
    Power Retouche
    Photo Frame 4
    PhotoTools Pro 2.6
I don't really want to run both versions of photoshop... I've done that in the past and never once went back to the old once I upgraded... but open to advice there, too.
    thanks,
    tom

You used to be able to transfer them to the new version without reinstalling... is that not possible any longer????…
    Read my previous post again:
You can only use those plug-ins in CS5 that have been upgraded by their particular software developer to run in 64 bits.
CS4 and earlier versions of Photoshop were 32-bit Carbon applications.  CS5 is Cocoa and runs in Snow Leopard in 64 bits.  You will need to get the updated 64-bit versions of your plug-ins from each of their developers.
Otherwise you'll need to run CS5 in 32 bits, with a corresponding loss in performance and any other consequences of running in 32 bits.

  • Upgrade from  FCP 6(motion,DVD,etc) to FCP 7 (motion,DVD,etc) takes so long

I am just wondering why each "content disk" takes along time - I mean at least an hour but it starts the count at 15 - 40 plus hours.... for each disk. Is there something wrong? Or is this everyones experience. Eventually is rackets down but it just seems overly slow....
    Just asking:)
    Thanks!

It takes a long time to read and write from the DVDs. There is a lot of material to move around and if you do not have a fast DVD reader ...
One way to speed things up is to create disk images of all the FCS install disks. Mount all the drives to your desktop and the install time should be 30 minutes or so and you won't have to baby sit the process.
I have mine stored on a portable firewire drive so they don't take up drive space on the computer.
I'll usually clone my system drive before a major installation/upgrade procedure so that if things go badly I can revert to the old system and be back working with minimal downtime.

  • Can I upgrade from FCP X 10.0.5 to 10.0.7?

I have FCPX 10.0.5 and want to upgrade to 10.0.7
Software Update says all my software is up to date.
My computer is MBP 17", 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB RAM, OSX 10.6.8
Are there FCPX advantages in going to OSX 10.8?

Yes to the first. Is the application in your purchased page on the App Store?
There is no benefit for FCP to update to Mountain Lion, though your computer mat generally run better.

  • Upgrading from Student Version question???

No. Academic versions are not upgradeable.

  • Maverick upgrade from Mountain lion question

Can anyone tell me if any of the following issues has been addresses?
    1) When you download Maverick there is no USB or DVD option, so can you confirm the O.S. validity by performing a SHA 256 hash verifiication of the operating system?
    2) The older version of snow leopard you could check the installd version of updates applied to the operating system. Does Maverick display the installed patches that have been applied?

    1) not sure, but if you download from the App Store, there is no need to verify the download. The App Store is isolated and secure.
    2) do you mean like this?
