Upgrading from FMS_4_5_0_r297 to FMS_4_5_1_r484 using ffmpeg will kill recording append ability

I would like to warn anyone using ffmpeg that upgrading to FMS_4_5_1_r484 will kill your append recording.
As discussed in http://forums.adobe.com/message/4280166 even fmle encoders are having problems appending recordings with absolute time enabled.
Reseting the recording with this query "adbe-live-event=croaporter&adbe-record-mode=record" or a change in your main.asc might be a solution for some but this will cause a disruption for clients connected to the stream.
For myself and I'm sure many others this is not a solution it seems like a bug. We need a solution that does not require a client to reset their browser page or client application which means overall disruptions in the viewer experience.
I can vouch that in FMS_4_5_0_r297 appending to a recording was done seemlessly on a 24/7 stream (and i have over 30 streams running). Sometimes for some reason an encoder will attempt to republish or will require a flush (forced restart) and with FMS_4_5_1_r484 this is not possible. Yes you can start a new recording but what happened to appending the recording, it was working.
I have tried to insert into the Event.xml a maxrestartage and removed absolute time code from Application but it will not work.
I dont know if FFmpeg has absolute time code implemented in the librtmp libraries to emulate fmle time synchronisation but even fmle users have this problem so I believe that this should be fixed in the next upgrade but for now I suggest all others who want to use a more efficient encoder such as ffmpeg as compared to fmle to be very careful when upgrading.
I did notice some new hls buffering issues that have arised from this new upgrade as well which 4.5.0 didnt have.
I am even willing to pay for support to solve this problem because 4.5.1 seems to have better monitoring in the administration console. But for now I am downgrading to FMS_4_5_0_r297 because it works.

(source is mpeg2 - mpegts 720 x 576) with ffmpeg you can copy the mpegts timecode with the -copyts option but that didnt help and I also tried -timestap now but no luck.

Upgrading from snow leopard to mountain lion will i have trouble using my Pages and Iphoto since it's not the latest version

I am contemplating upgrading my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Currently, I don't have ICloud available on my computer. I also keep getting messages to upgrade my IPhoto to '11 version as well as Pages. I know, I'm behind, but my theory is if it isn't broke don't mess with it.
My concern is I don't want to lose my pictures and YES, I have backed up with Time Machine to an external hard drive. (I just hope that's good enough). IF I upgrade to start using ML OS, will I need to restore anything from my external hard drive or will I be able to start using computer as if nothing changed?
I know enough to be dangerous and I'm hesitant to upgrade for fear of losing everything. Would appreciate help. Thanks!

Correct, in fact, Lion is no longer directly available from the App Store.

Upgrading from Tiger to Leopard using Backup

I am upgrading from Tiger to Leopard and created a backup using Backup. Everything I've read so far online talks about using SuperDuper or TimeMachine for backing up. Should I use something else for my backup or will my backup work? Should I do a complete wipe or just the simple upgrade?

I need to create a final prodcut for a grad school class and I would like to use some of the features on iMovie 11. I, however, already have begun creating some video clips. I want to know what will happen to my existing projects that are not yet published when I upgrade from iMovie08 to iMovie11. Thanks!

iM11 doesn't hurt your older projects, nor events.
keep in mind: iM11 Projects are not compatible with iM09

If you restore from the back up of the old phone, it should put your apps back for you.

Here is the process I use and it hasn't failed me in 4 years.
1. Download the Combo Update. (don't install until later)
2. Disconnect all Peripherals
3. Backup using Time Machine and a Bootable Clone
3. Using either the Snow Leopard disc or a Bootable Clone Repair Disk Permissions, Verify Disk and Repair Disk.
4. Restart the computer in Safe Mode and install the Combo Update following the on-screen instructions.
5. After update has successfully installed restart normally and begin plugging in peripherals and test.
I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard with many updates in-between and this process has proven very reliable.

Want to upgrade from iMovie to FCE. What will be the difference?

I am currently working through hours of DV footage from my camcorder using my Macbook and iMovie. Although I have been pleased with the results I know now that I want to upgrade to both a better computer and to Final Cut Express. I have also been considering going the full way to Final Cut 2 but as this is a lot more money I am wondering whether the upgrade to FCE will be enough. What extra do you get with FCE over iMovie and what more will it allow me to do. I have been pretty amazed at how good iMovie is at a consumer level so would expect FCE to allow me to be even more creative but am not sure exactly how. Is the upgrade enough or would FC2 be a better option. I will not be needing to make broadcast or professional productions, just do a good job at a serious amateur level. I do not need to use a lot of effects but I do want to be able to add good soundtracks and transitions. The audio is an important part of my movies.

If I upgrade from CS3 Windows to CS4 Mac , will my windows CS3 still work?

I would like to have photoshop CS4 on my mac but be able to retain the useage of CS3 on my windows machine. Is this possible or will upgrading cancel out my ability to use CS3?

Because i have two computers that i use simultaneously, 1 mac and 1 pc. I would not own a mac if I wanted to run windows on it hehe.
I have software I use on windows because it is more supported than the mac version of it. ( some companies shouldn't tease and say they have a mac version unless they actually have a tech squad capable of squashing bugs )
It is very convenient to have photoshop on my windows pc along with that software.
My PC and Mac are almost identical in specs ( 4gb ram, 2.13 ghz core 2 duo vs 2.4 ghz core 2 duo ) yet my mac can open files from my PC's desktop 10x faster than my PC can. - over the network. I keep my PC in top shape, i defrag, i run malware / antivirus cleaners, I check my registry regularly. Its just not close to being as fast as my mac.
I use my mac primarily for webdesign/development work and thats why I would love to have a permanent version of photoshop on it. the work I do on my PC is related to 3d and the software I use has very poor mac support.
So my question has been answered, I am unable to crossgrade to mac and retain a working PC version. so for now, i get to upgrade the PC version and wait for a few more $ until i can grab a full mac version. at which point i might even go all out and grab the $1700 suite.

Upgraded from iphoto9 to iphoto11 using ilife dvd, now it wont open!

i had iphoto 9 (i think) on mac and i just put ilife 11 dvd in to update the apps especially iphoto to 11. now every new and updated app seems to open fine except iphoto (the only one i use of course)- it wont open and says i need to update software but there is nothing to update. i checked the 'software update' on the computer and says everything is up to date. So did i just loose all my pictures (no i have not backed them up, that i know of anyway)
please help! im not at all computer savvy

I installed 9i on a server that already has an 8i database. I am trying to use the upgrade assistant in 9i to convert the database to 9i. After selecting the 8i db, I get dialog saying 'Getting databse information. Please wait..' then error 'ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error'. I tried setting the 9i listener to a different port (1522) and restart listener, no luck. Any suggestions?

Sony/Tektronic Data Generator DG2020, driver to be upgraded from v3.1 to use in v6.0

I only have labview V6.0 and I have an tektronic instrument, it is a Data Generator, model DG2020. Its driver is for Labview V3.1 and encountered such problem V3.1 and V6.0 are not compatible. I asked support from Tektronix and they advise me that from V3.1, it is recommended to upgrade to V4.0 then after to V6.0, not from V3.1 straight to V6.0. However, I do not have V4.0. Can u pls help me how to resolve this? Thanks.

First check with your local NI Field rep. They may be willing to help you out, free of charge.
Otherwise,locate an NI Select Integrator or an Alliance Member in your area (NI web site will help with this).
If they have been around long enough, they should be able to round-up some of their old disks and set up a system to do what you need. Warning, this will not be easy or quick, so you may have to pay for the time, BUT, it will generally be cheaper than trying to re-write it yourself from scratch.

But there is an issue.

Yes, that's a huge problem. In that case, follow these directions. You can still use the support article referenced in my first post to set up the new phone.
First, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected, under preferences in itunes.
Next, go up to Store>Authorize this computer.
Next, make sure you have at least one contact & one event in whatever supported program you use for that purpose on your computer(Outlook, Windows Address Book). They can be fake, it doesn't matter.
Next, connect your phone. DO NOT SYNC at this point.
Right click the phone in the device pane & select "Reset Warnings".
Next, go up to "File", "Transfer purchases made on this ipod/iphone to this computer".
Your purchased music/apps will then be transferred to itunes. Music you ripped on your own will not. You'll have to restore that from your backup, which apparently doesn't exist.
You can now sync, select the content from the various tabs. You should get a prompt regarding your contacts & calendar asking to "merge" or "replace". Select "merge"
That's as good as it gets if you don't have any backups.
It's probably safe to assume that the phones software has not been updated since he has not been syncing. At this point, I would suggest NOT updating the phones software, if prompted to do so, until we get the contacts in a supported application on the new computer.
