Upgrading from iPhone 3G to iPhone 4

Two quick questions:
1. If the iPhone 4 has a micro sim slot, how did I get my phone numbers off my old sim onto my iPhone 4?
2. Is there any way to backup my application files? For example I am up to level 25 on F.A.S.T. and don't want to lose my game files when I update.

1) iphone does NOT store to SIM.. So if your old phone is an iphone then you just sync to the same machine.
2) Yes

I upgraded from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 6.  Everything converted fine.  Yesterday I deleted an app in error.  When I downloaded the software it from iTunes ( did this many times on the old 3GS), my account is no longer recognized by the app's host servers (Playtika), even though it did after the initial conversion.  Can I go back and re-sync just one app from my old phone?

Try deleting what is called the iPod Photo Cache.

  • Upgrade from iPhone 4 to 4S and all photos in Camera Roll went missing

I upgraded from iPhone 4 to iPhone4S. I did a restored from my last backup before the upgrade and all my photos in my camera roll has disappeared!
What I discover is that it is still stored in the iPhone 4S as it took up 25GB of storage. However, it is not accessible inside the iPhone 4S. The photos are stuck in the iPhone 4S and taken up a lot of storage in the iPhone. Please help!

What I meant was I bought a new iPhone 4S and restored my backup of my old iPhone 4 into iPhone 4S and the camera roll photos that were in the old iPhone 4 did not show up in my iPhone 4S despite occupying space in the iPhone 4S ...

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • Upgrading from IPhone 3 to IPhone 4

I am trying to upgrade from IPhone 3 to IPhone 4, by restoring from iTunes.  I've followed the steps on Apple site (check for upgrades, back-up old phone, go through steps on new iphone, select restore from back-up, choose back up to restore from).  It went through everything and then for no apparent message came up with an error message saying restore from back up had not completed.  Now when I try to start the process again, iTunes launches straight into backing up and syncing my NEW phone, even though the who process hasn't yet completed.  Am in a complete loop - it won't let me start the process again from scratch or allow me to restore again.  Help!

Thanks to everybody for the quick advice. I did manage to get iTunes to show the 4.1 update by selecting "Check for Updates" from the iTunes menu (it would be under the "Help" menu on Windows I believe), and I am in the process of downloading the update right now (download only). As per the advice offered by everybody else who replied to my post, I will be waiting for a while before actually running the update to see how this update fairs on other folks' 2nd generation iPod Touches. I'm happy enough with iPhone OS 3.1.3 for now. I'd really like to have iBooks and a few other apps that require iOS 4 as well as the unified inbox and home-screen folders, but I'm content enough to hold off a while longer just to ensure maximum stability.
    Thanks again everybody!

  • HT201210 I upgraded from iPhone 3G to 4S a few days ago. I choose the option to restore from my last 3G backup. It worked fine but I just realized that I do not have the new apps which come with the 4S. What should I do? Thanks for any help. Léo

I upgraded from iPhone 3G to 4S a few days ago. When setting up the new 4S, I choose to restore my last 3G backup. It started by updating the OS to version 5.1 (9B179) then restored my apps and setting. Everything went well except that I realized I do not have the new apps which come with the 4S, like FaceTime, HD video and Siri.
What should I do to correct this?
Thank you in advance for any help on this.

Ah, FaceTime is not an app, either. It's accessed by tapping the FaceTime button when you are in the contacts app and have selected a contact. This can also be done from the Phone app under the Contacts tab, or during a call, you can switch to FaceTime.
Let me know what other apps/features you are missing.

  • When you upgrade from iPhone 3 to 4, will you lose any existing texts you have saved?

When you upgrade from iPhone 3 to 4, will you lose any existing texts you have saved?

That does do that. However it is a temporary backup and not the most reliable. Make sure you also go into file > Transfer purchases from _______ to make sure you save your music and apps. though the article that wjosten posted is correct for the backup as well. But article HT1414 is better for info on backing up.

Are you running iTunes 11.0.1 (current version)?  If not, get it at http://www.apple.com/itunes

  • I've upgraded from iPhone 4 to 5, and can't upload from iCloud

I've upgraded from iPhone 4 to 5, and I'm got as far as 'restore from iCloud'. And it says iOS 6.1.3. Required. So i went back to freshly backed up iPhone 4 and checked that it had iOS 6.1.3 all ready. There's no updates on settings  icon

Personally, when upgrading to a new device and wanting to download from a backup of the older device to set up the new device, I ALWAYS do the backup and restore from my computer's itunes.  It's much more reliable than icloud.

  • Upgrading from iPhone OS 3.1.3 to iOS 4.1 directly?

Forgive me if this has already been discussed; I didn't spot any topics for it right off hand.
I've held off on upgrading my second generation iPod Touch to iOS 4, specifically waiting for 4.1 to release. I know what features will and will not work on the 2G iPod Touch, but I'm definitely interested in those features that will work.
My question at present is, can I upgrade from iPhone OS 3.1.3 (my currently installed version) directly to iOS 4.1 without having to stop off at 4.0.2 first? iTunes currently shows only the 4.0.2 version as being available, although I know otherwise. It also doesn't give me the option to check for new versions.. only the option to upgrade to 4.0.2. If I have to upgrade to 4.0.2 first, then so-be-it, but if there is a way to go straight to 4.1, I think I'd like that much better.

  • Upgrade from iPhone 4 to Nokia Lumia 928; texts from iPhone contacts no longer coming through

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a Nokia Lumina 928 last week.  I was forced to make the upgrade because my iPhone's charging port broke (due to normal wear and tear), and could no longer be charged.  I was unable to acquire a replacement prior to the phone dying completely, and as such, I was unsuccessful in resetting the iPhone.
I am unable to receive texts from any iPhone users, period.  We have tried deleting my number as a contact, resetting the SMS and iMessage settings, deleting my number and unregistering my device from iCloud and Apple, and I am still not receiving messages.  These are standard messages, without pictures.
    What is the solution?

    Your phone isn't the problem.
Your contacts may be using iMessage, which can only be used with other Apple devices.
Turning iMessage off resolves the problem.

  • Upgraded from Iphone 4 to 4s.  old phone backed up to iCloud.  How do I restore that data to my new iphone?

I just upgraded from the iPhone 4 to 4s.  I had backed up the old phone backed up to iCloud.  How do I restore that data to my new iphone?  Even though I had photostream on, it never synched.  I installed iCloud for the pc and can see the backup up in the cloud.  I just want to get all the data to the new phone.

When you go through the new phone setup, it should ask if you want to setup as new or restore from iCloud. If you have already setup as new, you will have to reset the 4S to factory settings, and go through setup again.

  • Upgrading from iPhone Orig, to iPhone 3g

When upgrading from the Original iPhone to the 3g phone. Will AT&T be able to transfer all of the apps and numbers and music from my current phone to 3g phone or will I have to do all of that on my own? and If so, how will I transfer apps?

You will do this on your own in the same way this data was transferred to your original iPhone - via the iTunes sync process.
There is no device limit in regards to the number of iPods and/or iPhones that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer.
All 3rd party apps installed on your original iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and the same for all other iTunes content that is currently available on your original iPhone - music, video, and podcasts if any.
Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. With Vista, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events and Notes, or with the address book used by Windows Mail called Windows Contacts.
Before connecting the 3G to iTunes on your computer for the first time, sync your original iPhone with iTunes to update the backup for your original iPhone (which is updated as the first step during the sync process) along with updating any data that is kept synchronized with a supported application on your computer such as contacts. When connecting the 3G to iTunes the first time, you should be prompted to transfer the backup for your original iPhone to your 3G. This must be followed by a sync with iTunes to transfer your selections under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences to your 3G, which will be selected automatically under the various tabs for your 3G sync preferences with iTunes based on the backup transferred from your original iPhone.
This link provides the data included with your iPhone's backup.

  • Upgrading from iPhone 3g to iPhone 4 - how to with no dataloss?

I am upgrading from an iPhone 3g to a iPhone 4. I don't want to lose any data (messages/contacts/apps) between the switch. I am currently using a desktop that I am synchronized with. However, once I get the iPhone 4, I want to synchronize my phone with my laptop. Am I able to synchronize my 3g with my laptop and save all data. Then move to my iPhone 4 and synchronize with no data loss?

All iTunes content on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer - all music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps.
If you have Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes - you don't have manually manage music and videos selected with their being no benefit with manually managing music and videos with an iPhone, after purchasing music from the iTunes store with your iPhone, the music will be copied to your iTunes library on your computer automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.
The same with 3rd party apps when having Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences, which should be selected for a number of reasons. With this selected, after downloading an app direct with your iPhone, the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.
Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. The Camera Roll is for temporary storage no different with any other digital camera.
And photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process should remain on your computer.
If you don't have Sync Music selected and Sync Apps selected, with your 3G connected to iTunes, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This should transfer all music purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store direct with your iPhone and the same for all 3rd party apps.
