Upgrading  from iTunes 7 to iTunes 9.02 problem.

Hi,
I've upgraded from 7.something to 9.0.2 and it will not start with my personnal itunes Library. My library is located outside the default folder. iTunes seems to start OK only with the "normal", new and empty itunes library from the music/itunes/itunes library.
I can't afford to lose my library since it contains so many lists and the "added date" is important to me.
How can I migrate this old version of iTunes library to the new one?
I've never upgraded iTunes for the past 2 years because I was afraid that it would not be compatible with another software called M-audio Torq which uses the IT library to browse throught my music. After verification, it is compatible with newer versions of iTunes so now I end up with this situation...
Any clues?!

My library is located outside the default folder.
try this:
press option and launch iTunes. you will see this
click +choose library+ and navigate to the iTunes library file (wherever that is).
what happens ?

after upgrading from ITunes6 on ITunes 7 my videos doesn´t work. there are no error messages, popups or ballons. songs are no problem, only the videos?!
    Can somebody help me?
    Thanks

hmmmm. let's try checking to see if they will still play in your current version of QuickTime.
in itunes, right-click on one of the videos that is causing the grief, and select "Show in Windows Explorer".
right click the icon of the file in the Explorer window that comes up and select "Open With ...", and try to open it with your QuickTime player. does it play there or do you get funny business with that too?

I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb.  The problem I'm having is that it will not sync more than about 5.4gb worth of songs.  The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync process.  The hard drive has been upgraded, it has a new logicboard (with 128mb RAM), new housing, battery, hold / headphone jack.  Basically the only original parts are the bezel, click wheel, screen, and data ribbons. Have attempted the 3Rs and have also tried to isolate potentially corrupt audio files and remove them, but this did not seem to be the primary cause.  The sync failure consistently happens at just under a 1000 songs (5.4gb) and then it starts to error (-69) any song after that.  Your advise would be enthusiastically received.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

I'm trying to upgrade from 10.39 to 10.4 using the Tiger install DVD .
    - When I d insert the dvd, it immediatle pops it back out..
    - I tried transfering the dvd data on to a usb drive. When I did this, I cilicked on the "install icon" get the installation screen, click "restart" and the machine restarts in 10.39 with no installation screen.
    - With the USB drive, from system prefs > startup disk, I am given the option of 10.4, but when I select it and hit restart, nothing happens.
    Any help is appreciated!!

    Hi rickHutch80;
Your G4 is not capable of booting from a USB drive hence when the reboot starts it con only find the disk with Panther on it as the only bootable device. You need to use either an internal DVD drive or an external Firewire DVD drive so that the G4 can boot from it.

  • Permission Errors: Mtn Lion upgrade from SL iphoto, iTunes, etc; want to save myself and reinstall, Permission Errors: Mtn Lion upgrade from SL iphoto, iTunes, etc; want to save myself and reinstall

Well here I am again, once again lots of problems with t he upgrade to ML from SL on my late 2009 iMac.
Background: I took my perfectly fine functioning iMac into the Apple Store to have the Seagate HD replaced pert the recall. BIG MISTAKE. The Geniuses gave me a "complimentary" upgrade to ML without asking if that was okay, and three months later, I still do not have a functioning iMac.
My iMac since this reintallation has been unable to open ANY iphoto files/photos saved whie I was still running SL--pretty much everything I've saved as a jpeg for the last six years, so I'm not willing to let this go so easily. Not only have I got work-related files on here that I need, all of my children's and family photos are saved on there. I need those files.
After trying to no avail to reinstall SL from disk, the Apple Tech from Apple Care said that I've got hardware problems (fans wont' stop running; SL disk cannot be read by either Super Drive--the one inside the iMac or the external portable Super Drive, hence reinstallation of SL has not been possible), so I'm supposed to take it BACK into the Apple Store and let them work on it again. Please understand that for the last three months I have been dealing with nonstop issues that have created a real mess of my life and nothing gets fixed, no matter how many phone calls I make. I do not think any of this is hardware-related, honestly. I've found numerous threads on the fan running constantly with the installation of ML; and no, I'm not even running any CPU-instensive programs. And nothing explains why when the SL disk (a second copy of which was mailed to me) cannot be opened (the progress wheel just keeps spinning and spinning).
Well, I've decided that I'm probably going to have to give up on this, and that my previously working iMac that should have had more life in it is destined for the landfill (or recycling). All I want now is to get my data off of it and be able to  use it with my external hard drive with another Mac (MBA now running Lion--although it's also got lots of problems) and a new Windows machines which I will mostly likely be buying this week. I can no longer live with the interruptions to my life--I work with my computers, need my data, and this has been going for three months.
I read a bunch of really complicated information on how to get my old data off of my Mac and/or external hard drive, and I've accepted that this is going to take a LOT of time, but I  do't have a choice if I want my data.
I'm now looking at the contents of my external hard drive, and looking specifically at one of the user accounts (one that I use for work purposes) and I see that I am not allowed to view the contents of the "Pictures" because I do not have permission. This has been an ongoing issue while using the MBA to TRY to view/access data from the iMac. Is there anyone who can help me figure out how to repair all of  these permission errors?
I've lost an unbelievable amount of time with all of this and I only want MY OWN files. I'm not trying to pirate any software, I just want and need my own iPhoto images and of course, since I own the music in my iTunes library, I think I ought to have permission to take this data off of  this external hard drive and put it onto another external hard drive that I will buy tomorrow, so that I can reinstall onto another machine (ie, probably a  new WIndows computer).
    To paraphrase:
Upgrade to ML made most of my files saved on my iMac with SL obsolete or not viewable or accessbile. I NEED these files (mostly jpegs, iTunes music, some pages docs, etc, but I'll live without those docs if need be).
I have the last backup that was done before taking the iMac in to have the hard drive replaced. I can see that the data is there, but in one of the user accounts, the one I use mostly for work related purposes, the error  message that tells me I cannot view the files because I do not have permission comes up. I've never had any other admins of my computers, either the iMac or the MBA that I am trying to use to open the files on the external hard drive. How would I repair the permissions on a backup of my old SL system from a MBA running Lion?
Anyone? Please help. I'm going to lose a whole heck of a lot of data and money if I cannot get these saved files back.

  • Upgrade from very old itune version to new

Wanted to put in new songs and says i need new version. questions:
    1. How do i make sure i don't lose everything (did this once in the past which is why i haven't upgraded in 24 months.
    2. Do i have a choice in versions or do i automatically need to go to 7.5.
    thanks-

But do I then have to keep the XSKey in my laptop when running Logic 9 or is it just for the install?
i.e. can I then reinsert the XSKey in my old Pro Tools computer and run Logic 6.4.3 after I've installed Logic 9.x on my laptop?
You shouldn't have to use your XS Key to run 9, only to install it. You should be able to do what you want to do.

  • On a Mac, Just upgraded from Lightroom 4, to 5. Problems with Catalog transfer.

So I did the upgrade version of Lightroom 5 from 4.  I did the catalog transfer to move all of my images over from lightroom 4 to 5.  But now when I click on any of my old images (from a lightroom 4 catalog) in lightroom 5, I get an error message that says Lighroom has a problem reading the images.  Last night I tried to export from lightroom 5 to my desktop and it did not work with the same error message coming up.  Help!!!  What am I (did I) doing wrong?

-Once I put the disc in I followed the procedures to upload LR5.  This was successful.  The first time I opened LR5 I was prompted to transfer my old LR4 catalogs to LR5 which I did.
-Now when I click on any image, once I click away, in the lower scroll bar of images an exclamation mark in a small circle.  When you click on the exclamation mark this message appears "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo.  You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo."  This happens to every image I click on.

    Byron,
You should not have any problems when you upgrade your OS. Depending on what driver versions you have for that hardware, you may want to go ahead an upgrade your drivers anyway, though. The drivers for these devices are all available for free from our website at:

Try that and let me know if you have any trouble.

  • Upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard - multiple problems

I have a MacPro 4.1 (Mid2009) 2x2.26 quad-core w/ 8gb ram. My previous OS was 10.5.8 Leopard. I purchased the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard upgrade disk, performed the upgrade install, then installed the latest updates from Apple to 10.6.6.
    Now the following problems occur:
    1) I can't make a folder of alias's from my Applications folder. They all show up as gray squares with the text name below them. Opening the folder brings the infamous 'rainbow beachball of death' and I have to relaunch the Finder a minimum of twice to four times, at which point all the aliases then appear as normal icons.
    2) My generic e-Sata controller card is completely ignored by the OS. System profiler "sees it", but nothing connected to it will mount.
    3) My Matrox O2 Rack unit successfully installed, as I was able to upres VOB files via Premiere CS5 and output that upres to a BlackMagic Decklink card using Final Cut Pro as the capture software - both running within in the one MacPro. On this initial install it did work quite successfully. The next day, however, after turning the MacPro on, the OS reported that the Matrox O2 host connector box was an unknown Network connection and prompted me for Network configuration!
Sounds to me like some OS firmware/chipset abnormalities. But what to test and where????
    - Scott

Maybe not. Start by doing this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Get a utility such as TinkerTool System or Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner and AppleJack. For the former clear all user, system, and font caches. For the latter install according to documentation then follow instructions on using AppleJack.
Next, boot into safe mode. See how that goes. Note that wireless and all third-party extensions are disabled in safe mode. So your eSATA card and Matrox device will not work if they require proprietary drivers.
Also, create a new user account. Log into the new account and see how that goes. This will not disable wireless or third-party drivers.

  • Upgrading from iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4 problems!  Help!!

My uncle sent me his old iPhone 4 since he got the 4S.  I currently have an iPhone 3Gs.  However, when I restore the iPhone 4 from the backup of my 3Gs, my number won't transfer from the 3Gs to the iPhone 4!  What do I do?

No I didn't.  I figured since my uncle upgraded to his iPhone 4S, his number would be gone from this sim card he sent with the phone.  His phone service is gone, but the sim card still identifies with his number, and when I try to restore the phone from my backup, EVERYTHING transfers over, except the number.  Is there a way to wipe the sim card clean, maybe?

  • Upgrading from photoshop elements 4 to 10 problems

From being a happy user of photo elements 4  I had to upgrade as Win7 64 bits could not handle Elements 4.
I wish I never had done this as since then I have nothing but troubles and spend so much time trying to
figure out why tagged photo's I know I have don't show up. Sometimes they do and on the next startup in one occasion only 10
percent is shown. This is absolutely unacceptable for an organizer.
One is more or less obliged to upgrade as reorganizing  8000 plus files with  another program would
take long but with the time I spent so far I could better have shifted to  more reliable \software.
Is there a solution to this or would it be better to use another program?

  • Satellite M100-165 PSMA1E - Upgrade from XP Pro to Win7 Ultimate problem

During installation Win7 Ultimate (Eng) with current XP Pro the system shows en error (something like couldn't find a certain file) and the installation stops.
In the beginning of the installation I delete all the partitions and create new ones.
At the same time Win7 creates it's own partition with the size of 100MB.
Using the same disk I installed Win7 on Compaq Presario CQ60 with no problems. Also instead of XP Pro.
    What could be a problem?
Do I need to download and use any special software from Toshiba?
Currently I just recovered XP Pro using Acronis Universal restore from an external USB drive.
I will really appreciate for your help.

Thanks a lot for your reply guys!
I've also checked all the possible knowledge bases before posting my message.
Yes, Win 7 disk is original, it's 32-bit version and, as I already mentioned, I installed it on my HP CQ60 with no problems...
It's also a pretty old laptop, but i didn't even need to install prepared drivers. Win7 did everything.
The only difference in my Toshiba now is that i've upgraged 80GB hard drive to SeaGate 320GB. Under XP Pro it works perfectly. But again, it shouldn't be a problem.
Ok. I've tried to install win7 three times already, but i will follow your advice and will set BIOS to default.
I will inform you about the results.
    The case is very strange.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have got the Early 2008 MacBook Air. OS X Mavericks needs a Late 2008 or newer MacBook Air, so you can't run Mavericks. OS X Mountain Lion has got the same specs, so you can't install OS X Mountain Lion.
OS X 10.7.5 is the latest Mac OS X version for your MacBook. If you want OS X Mavericks, get a new computer
