Upgrading from Nano to 30GB

I just received at 30GB iPod. I currently have a Nano. If I just plug the new iPod into my computer, will my current iTunes go onto the new iPod?
I'm giving the Nano to the person who gave me the 30GB. He'll need to load the iTunes software on his computer. When he plugs the Nano in, will my songs still be there? I appreciate anyone's input! Thank You!

1. Yes.
2. By default, the iPod will first ask you if you want to change its home computer, and if the operator confirms this, all the music will be erased from the iPod. If you want, you can restore the iPod to erase everything on it before sending it off.

  • Upgrading from Nano to 30G

Hello, I'm new here. I was just wondering as I currently have a nano and will be upgrading to the 30g, do I need to unistall anything or can I just plug it into my computer? I already have itunes and will I have to do anything with itunes so I won't lose any songs that I already have?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello Pam83,
If you have all the latest updates then just connect your new iPod. It should pretty much find what it needs on your PC and update automatically. There's no reason whatsoever that it should erase anything from iTunes but if you are worried then back up your library, that's a pretty sensible thing to do periodically anyway. Forum member Buegie has compiled a very extensive procedure for backing up your music which you'll find at this link: Backing up iTunes

  • Need To Upgrade From Nano

My dad has the 16 GB 4th Gen Nano (without the video camera). Last night I added more music to it and it has less than 2 GB free. What would be a suitable upgrade as far as space for music? I had thought about getting the new 160 GB Classic and giving him my yr old 80 GB Classic.
I did something similar a year ago when I upgraded my mom from her 1 GB Shuffle (2nd Gen) to her 8 GB 4th Gen Nano.

    Hello there,
I think the idea of giving him your 80 GB is a very generous idea. As long as he wants something that can hold more music and is OK with the iPod being a bit bigger in size and weight, then go for it. Also, instead of buying the 160 GB one, you could always purchase a refurbished 120 GB (last generation) for a much cheaper price and still have 4o GB more of space to work with.
I would give it some though and what you would really prefer and whether or not your dad is OK with a larger one as well.
Best of luck though. Hope this helps a bit.

  • Upgrading from nano to classic on itunes

I just bought a new Classic, switching from a Nano.
First of all, everytime I connect my classic, it goes thru the whole registration routine.
I did a sync and all songs transfered from itunes lib to my classic.
Under Devices, songs on my classic are shown in light gray but I can't select them for playing.
Under my classic is another set of playlists that belong to my old nano.
What do I do to switch from my nano to my new classic on itunes?

Change the drive letter on the iPod Classic.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.

  • Upgrading from nano to video

I got my nano about a week after it came out with a protection plan. My question is whether I can bring it to an apple store, pay an extra $100, and get an iPod video (I bought the nano from amazon if that changes anything...)

Apple would not exchange it for you but perhaps Amazon would. Really not sure if you could get your extended warranty refunded and/or transferred. Here is a link that should work to Amazon's return policy http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/15015711/ref=brbx_c_10/002-3822571-1275267

  • Upgrading from Nano 5G to new ipod Touch.

Will I need to amend any settings or will itunes automatically sync the new Touch instead of the Nano.
    Thanks in advance!

you will need to register the Touch with iTunes.
plug it in and follow on-screen instructions. in the process, you can decide what to sync to the device.

  • Just got a new ipod...upgraded from nano..will library transfer?

Any tips to make this a smooth transaction? Does it matter if the I-pod is named the same as thye old one? Will I be able to transfer my old library to the new ipod ?
    Thanks for the help?

As Jediboy already pointed out (give him a star gosh darn it!) iTunes keeps track of individual iPods by type and serial number. So not only will the new iPod sync just fine with your existing library, but you can also set different updating preferences for each iPod. For example, on a 5th Gen 80GB iPod, you might simply choose to auto update everything if your library contains 50GB of stuff. But for a Nano, you might want to update that one with specific playlists since not everything will fit on it at once.

  • Change from Nano to Video

    Have Windows XP Pro
Upgraded from Nano to Video, but even though I reinstalled, the features shown in Itunes seem to be still those of the Nano. There is no "enable storage device" under general, and when connect the Ipod to the computer and attempt to copy a picture into the computer, there is no folder called DCIM on the Ipod, and the one that says photos has thumbnails and a database, which cannot be opened.
Is that because it's not "enabled" for use as jump drive?
    How can I enable?
The help manuals to consult from "help" in my itunes are still those for the Ipod.
How can I make Itunes recognize that I now have a video ipod? I did put the serial in when reinstalling.

How are you attempting to get the pix onto the iPod?
iTunes handles this and this is what the database is.
DCIM is Digital Camera IMage folder.
It is created by a digital camera, not the iPod.
There is no "enable storage device
Make sure your iPod is attached.
    Open iTunes prefs -> iPod.

  • I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb.  The problem I'm having is that it will not more than about 5.4gb worth of songs.  The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync.

I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb.  The problem I'm having is that it will not sync more than about 5.4gb worth of songs.  The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync process.  The hard drive has been upgraded, it has a new logicboard (with 128mb RAM), new housing, battery, hold / headphone jack.  Basically the only original parts are the bezel, click wheel, screen, and data ribbons. Have attempted the 3Rs and have also tried to isolate potentially corrupt audio files and remove them, but this did not seem to be the primary cause.  The sync failure consistently happens at just under a 1000 songs (5.4gb) and then it starts to error (-69) any song after that.  Your advise would be enthusiastically received.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • Upgraded from a nano to a touch..How do I switch/sync the new touch and get rid of the nano?

Upgraded from a nano to a touch. How to I switch the two on my computer to erase the nano, and use only the touch. I dont want it to think it belongs to someone else. But I dont want to start all over and lose the music. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just sync the media from your iTunes library to the iPod touch.
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar.
On the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Syncing your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • Upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 won't sync to 5G iPod Nano

I recently had my PC upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.  Prior to the upgrade, all my Apple devices interfaced well with iTunes (11.0).  After the upgrade occured, I reinstalled iTunes (11.0.1.12), imported my iTunes library file and synchronized with all my devices.  All of them synced (iPhone 4 (work), iPhone 5 (personal), iPad 2), except my 5G iPod Nano.  It causes iTunes to freeze as soon as it is recognized.  Becuase it freezes immediately, I am unable to restore the iPod or change to mamage my music manually.  The OS upgrade took place about 6 weeks ago and I would like to resync my iPod and change out some of my music.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is it possible to upgrade from Tiger (10.4) to Leopard (10.5)? Thanks

Wondering if I can upgrade from TIger to Leopard (and then to Lion) on my old Macbook. Don't really want to buy a new notebook when this one works fine. But would like to use some of the features available through Lion (notably iCloud). Thanks.

    Hello Judy,
You'd want to skip Leopard/10.5.x totally as it's not needed & expensive since Apple no longer sells it & it was $129.
You can get Snow Leopard/10.6 for $29, then once updated to 10.6.6 or greater buy Lion/10.7 from the App Store, as long as your MacBook meets the requiremenys...
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they might still have it...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory[14]
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading[14]
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

  • HT1199 I-pod no longer reconised by computer since downloaging the latest upgrade from i-tunes?

Ipod no longer reconised by computer since downloading the lastest upgrade from i tunes.

    Same here.
I have tried all the repeated reccomendations I've found in other posts.
    Nothing has worked.
I have tried installing older versions of ITunes also...will not recognize my library so it will not start up.  Have tried rebuilding it.  Not working....
One thing that did work was resetting my Ipod nano...now all I have is the message "Please use Itunes to sync music to this Ipod." :/

  • After Upgrade from OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6 HD3870 has lower resolution

I'm running a 1st Generation Mac Pro with 7GB of ram, andI just recently tried to upgrade from lep to snow lep. Everything went very smooth, all my applications were fine, even logic pro 9...but my monitor that was running on the ATI HD 3870 lost it's higher resolutions. I tried downloading some installers but that just led to my entire system getting fubar'd and had to restore from time machine to the backup I made right before I upgraded to snow lep. Does anyone know of anything that could be blocking the drivers for the 3870? I even tried to get to 10.6.3 and still didn't work. Any help or a friendly push in the right direction would be appreciated. I am going to upgrade as soon as the Mac Pro refresh comes about, but I would still like to get this system on 10.6 so I can get some use of the 64-bit platform capabilities within Logic Pro.
    Many Thanks,
    Webb

First you need to research all the problems people are having with it, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

It's been pulled from the online store, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.
