Upgrading from older OS to latest

I have 2 older MAC's a G4/700Mhz/OSX 10.3.9 and G5/1.8Ghz/OSX 10.4.11 can I upgrade them to the latest OS and if so what will happen to older programs like CS3 and Quark 7. Also on the G4 will I be able to install Chrome.
Please advise how I can and should do this because it is essential that I still be able to operate CS3 and Quark 7. Too expensive to upgrade right now on all those in this economy.

neither can be upgraded to the latest operating system which is 10.8. each can be upgraded one notch higher, your g4 to 10.4 and your g5 to 10.5. you will probably get the biggest bang for your buck with the g4.

Upgrading from CF 5 to latest version

We are looking to upgrade our existing CF server from CF5 to the latest version. I found some system requirements on the website, but I’m not sure of the version required and a few other things.
Our current set up is as follows:
•OS: Windows Server 2000 SP4
•Processor: 2.4 Ghz Intel Xeon
•RAM: 3.14 GB
•C Drive: 10 GB
•D Drive: 30 GB
•CF Version: CF5
The questions I have are:
1.What version of CF would we need to run our application? We have CF installed on a DEV server and a PROD server (both with the same specs as mentioned above).
2.What is the price of the suggested version?
3.Are there version steps that we much take to upgrade to the latest version or should we just start with a fresh install of the newest version?
4.Can support be provided to configure the new version on our new server once we get it installed? Is there a price or is it rolled into the version’s cost?

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

Why can't I upgrade from older full version?

Hi, I am seeing "full" versions of CS3 and 4 on sale for low prices but some say you cannot upgrade from these. I've never heard of this before. Is this because of the low pricing or does Adobe sell "special" full versions that don't allow you to upgrade?

Heh. Do a Google Maps street view of the place where they say they are. They don't actually have a storefront that I can see, but even if they did, take a good look at that place... Do you think you could walk into any place there and buy legitimate software? I'd be fearing for my life, frankly.
The reason you can't upgrade is that the serial number (if you even get one) is pirated and Adobe's no fool. They're not going to accept them for upgrade! Simple as that!

Will I loose my projects (7 books to print of 265 pages each which mean a lot of work) if I upgrade from iPhoto 7 to latest version ?

I'm on OSX 10.7.5. I have worked over 2 years on 7 books of 265 pages to print via iPhoto 7. Now that I'm ready to print them… it says that I need a newer version. I'm really afraid to upgrade, because I don't want to loose everything. If I upgrade to Photo will my projects be affect ?

Personally, I would also make an independent back up, just in case:
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

reading and writing to a database, using MM functions.
I would appreciate anyone's thoughts and/or experiences when
upgrading Dreamweaver application. Any "gotchas", "known issues",
or other suggestions that would simplify the upgrade. I will need
to estimate the amount of time to complete the upgrade so
information that you could share would be beneficial.

You're going a long way. Your recordsets would have to be
remade which
doesn't take long due to the 8.2 rewrite for protection from
SQL injection
attacks. You didn't specify the server model .. if it's Cold
Fusion, there
is a lot in DW to keep up with newer Cold Fusion. If ASP, not
that much is
different. You can now develop with PHP/MySql that you
couldn't in UD4.
Another big bonus for you would be all the CSS improvements
.. 3 rewrites
since UD4 .. you would be amazed at the difference in actual
design of the
site.

HT5037 I've downloaded iPhoto Library upgrader and run the install but can't find the app to run it. Consequently, I cannot open iPhoto. I upgraded from 7 to the latest version to get my photo books feature back. Has Apple been bought out by Microsoft?

Upgrading from older version of iPhoto

I recently installed the new OSX 10.4.6 on my iMac G4. I am running iTunes 6 just fine but I tried to install iPhoto 6 (I am somehow still running iPhoto2) and the installer process stoppe and said it couldnt install because there was "no eligible iPhoto application"
I was told in the store that all you had to have was iTunes 6 and you could put pictures from iPhoto on the iPod (nano) but when I try it says my iphoto version wont support this.
Do I have too old a version of iPhoto?
Should there be a way to update iPhoto to 6 w/o buying iLife for 100 bucks?

iPhoto 6 is only available thru the purchase of iLife 06. ITunes is free as it's really to get users to by music from the iTMS.
The update package you tried to use will only work on iPhoto 6.0 or highter.
If you look at the iPhoto 6 pages at Apple's site you'll see that it is very far advanced from the V2. And with Tiger it's even more so.
The only way to get iLife 06 is either via purchase or with the purchase of a new Mac.
You do not need iPhoto to put photos on your iPod. You can do it this way:
1 - select the photos you want and export to a folder on your HD. I named mine "Nano Pics" and it's located in my Pictures folder.
2 - with your iPod connected go to the iTunes preferences for the iPod. There under the Photos section you can choose any folder on the HD as the source of the photos for the iPod. Navigate to your folder and select it.
When you want to add or remove photos do it via iPhoto exports and the Finder.

I lost my history when upgraded from 3.6 to 4.0. How do I recover?

When I upgraded from Firefox 3.6 latest to Firefox 4 on March 22, my history disappeared. Looking at the places.sqlite file, it looks like it created a new one and renamed the older one .corrupt. The file wasn't corrupt in 3.6 - it worked fine! Even when I restore a backup copy of the file from last week, as soon as I start Firefox 4 it renames the existing file and creates a new one. If I'd known this would happen, I wouldn't have upgraded! Can this be fixed?

Extensions may need updates to work with Firefox. But your passwords, bookmarks, form data will be preserved between the versions.

Can i upgrade from Logic PRO 7 to Logic express 9 (upgrade version)?

I was about to upgrade from Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio 9 when i noticed that all the fetures i need are actually now in cheaper Logic Express 9.
So would it be possible to upgrade to Logic Express 9 from Logic Pro 7? or will it only upgrade from older versions of Logic Express?

Hi,
guess that's not possible. But i strongly recommend upgrading your Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio. It's not that much more money, but i bet once you have the new Express version, you'll desperately miss some of the features you only have with Logic Pro/Studio.
I would recommend to call apple support or ask a dealer to find the correct upgrade version.

Upgrading from CS3 to 5.5

Hey guy's I'm wondering what would be the least painful way to upgrade from CS3 to the latest? First I'll be upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Also how do I go about keeping all my fonts? Do I need to install CS3 on the new OSX when installed? Then install CS 5.5 over top of that?
I work in pre-press for a medium sized print company and we are upgrading pretty much all our software. From RIP,OS,Adobe creative suite,ect.

Fonts might be in different folders, so you should do a search to find all the fonts.
As there were several changes to the text engine, text might flow differently, you'd have to check that. When saving files you should do a save as in order to save them as CS5. Apart from that you'll have to get aquainted to the new features of course.

Hi all. I´m thinking in becoming a developper because I want to install mavericks beta on my macbook pro (I can´t wait for the battery and ram upgrades). But i have a question before that. It´s posible to upgrade from the latest mavericks beta to the final version? , or Ihave to restore to mavericks final version and then use a time machine Backup?

No one who knows can say, because Mavericks is not released yet.
To get a Free copy that can be updated, you need to have a paid developer membership, at a minimum cost of at least US$100/ annually. (This may also include one Developer Tech Support incident and other benefits.)
Apple has lowered the cost of new versions of Mac OS X to about US$20. If Mavericks is released at about that price, buying a legitimate copy instead of depending on a quirky developer version that cannot be updated should not be a difficult decision.

To open an iPhoto 7.1.x version in iPhoto '11 you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this Support document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrade
Download and install the upgrader, then run it on your iPhoto 7.1.5 library. After that, iPhoto will be able to open your library and upgrade it to version 9.5.1. And you will be able to merge the libraries with if Library Manager.

Am planning to Upgrade my CUC(Unity Connection) from 8.6.2 to 9.1 latest version, having my Call manager in the same version 8.6.2. I will upgrade my Call Manager from 8.6.2 to 9.X later.
