Upgrading from Oracle DB from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4

Hello All,
I have a requirement to connect to both Oracle DB and SQL Server. So for that I believe I need to make use of Gateway Application. DG4MSQL comes integrated with 11g but for 10g I need to upgrade to 10.2.0.4. Please feel to correct me if I am wrong.
So since I wish to upgrade Oracle DB from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 to make use of Gateway Application, I have following question:
1. - Can I download Oracle 10g DB/Build - 10.2.0.4 directly. So that mean that I no longer need to first install 10g 10.2.0.3 and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4
2. - To download the patch to upgrade to 10.2.0.4, Oracle download site redirects you to the metalink support site which is asking for support identifier (which I don't have). So that means the patch to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 is not free. So that also means unless and until I have a valid support I won't be able to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 and hence won't be able to make use of Gateway application.
3. - If I want wish to make use of Gateway application in 11g, I guess I just need to download standalone Gateway Application which is available for 11g.
4. - Do some sort of support or license is required to use Gateway Application (DG4MSQL) in 11g on Windows

Hi Parag,
1. - Can I download Oracle 10g DB/Build - 10.2.0.4 directly. So that mean that I no longer need to first install 10g 10.2.0.3 and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4No you cannot download directly 10.2.0.4. First you have to be on 10.2.0.1 base release on top of that you can Install 10.2.0.4 patchset (6810189).
2. - To download the patch to upgrade to 10.2.0.4, Oracle download site redirects you to the metalink support site which is asking for support identifier (which I don't have). So that means the patch to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 is not free. So that also means unless and until I have a valid support I won't be able to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 and hence won't be able to make use of Gateway application.Yes to download this patch from https://support.oracle.com you need to have a valid CSI number.
3. - If I want wish to make use of Gateway application in 11g, I guess I just need to download standalone Gateway Application which is available for 11g.yes you can achieve just by using Gateway application.
4. - Do some sort of support or license is required to use Gateway Application (DG4MSQL) in 11g on WindowsNo u did not need any license for this. Just you need to accept the license terms to download the software.

  • Oracle Upgrade from 10g to 11g [BRANCHED BY MODERATOR]

    Hi Deepak/Folks,
Another question that I have is that while doing the Oracle Upgrade on an EP server, the patches were not installed properly and I had to shut down the Patches installation after it did not do anything for a while.
Now when I try to install the patches it fails telling me that the Installed patches cannot be verified, I had written to SAP and they told me to follow the
    SAP note 1862446 - Inventory
load failed... OPatch cannot load inventory for the given Oracle Home
    and re-create the oracle  inventory.
This has also not helped in anyway.
Is there a solution to this problem.

  • Is it really necessary to Upgrade from Oracle EBS R11i to R12?

    Hi,
Oracle Applications 11.0.3 (Oracle Financials) was implemented in our company and later in 2006 it was upgraded to 11.5.10 (with new implementation of Supply Chain Management Module - INV,OM and PO) and 2 months ago we upgraded it to 11.5.10.2+DB 11gR2.
I've been recommending to upgrade to R12 but the Finance Users are reluctant for an upgrade and of the opinion that the R12 has many bugs and there will be issues after upgrade to R12.
Once of the consultant is of the opinion that its better to re-implement R12 instead of Upgrade. He also tells me that R12 does not have sub-accounting and sub-ledger and trial balance reports in AP.Since I am not a Functional Consultant I could not comment on this.
Please advice if there are any useful docs which address the upgrade to R12 issues which I can share with our consultant and users.
I am currently going thru +Upgrade Advisor: Oracle E-Business Suite Financials and Projects Upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3 and 12.1.2 [ID 256.1]+

R12.1.x is a stable release that many customers (including Oracle themselves) have upgraded to.

The Finance modules have been completely re-written and fucntionality had changed for the better. Re-implementation typically costs upto 3 times more than a upgrade. Re-implementation is not necessary if the business model and process have not changed. What are the consultants justifications for doing a re-implementation (other than making more money) ?

  • Upgrading from Oracle 9.1.0.8 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2)

    Hello everyone;
We are in the process of looking into  upgrading from our current Oracle 9.1.0.8 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): Windows
We would like to download and install the 10.2.0.1 base release (Oracle Software).   When I go on SAP Marketplace
https://websmp210.sap-ag.de/oracle-download  and goto the (Software Download) section and click on
Oracle 10.2 Software (32-bit versions) to download  I receive a error  NO DATA AVAILABLE.
Is there another area to download the Oracle Software? or do I need to purchase a CD from SAP or can I download this base release straight from Oracle?
Thanks for your time and have a great day.

    Hello Pellegrino,
just download it from the SAP container for each product .. for example
-> Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER 7.0 -> Windows Server -> ORACLE
    Regards

    Recommendations
Oracle recommends gathering dictionary statistics prior to
    upgrading the database.
To gather dictionary statistics execute the following commands
    while connected as SYSDBA:
    EXECUTE dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats('CTXSYS',options=>'GATHER'

Oracle recommends removing all hidden parameters prior to upgrading.
To view existing hidden parameters execute the following command
    while connected AS SYSDBA:
SELECT name, description from SYS.V$PARAMETER WHERE name
    LIKE '\_%' ESCAPE '\'
Changes will need to be made in the init.ora or spfile.

  • Oracle database 9.2.0.8 patchset upgrade from 9.2.0.3

    Hi,
i have a situation where i upgraded the Oracle software with database as per metalink documentation from 9.2.03 to patchset 9.2.0.8 (Oracle9i Patch Set Release 2 (9.2.0.8) Patch Set 7 for HP-UX PA-RISC (64-Bit) ) (README for 4547809 )
but i could see the $ORACLE_HOME/bin binaries are still at 9.2.0.3, and so v$version dba_registry pointing to same.
i have pasted few lines of patch installation log from Inventory

  • Upgrading from 9.0.1.3 to 11.2.0.4 with Oracle Workspace Manager

Our client has a (very old) 9.0.1.3 database on Windows 2000
This database (and other products – but that’s not the main concern right now) needs to be upgraded to 11.2.0.4 in Windows2008R2 (64 bit).
A complicating factor might be the use of Oracle Workspace Manager – a lot of tables are Workspace Managed.
We can do it the long way, by upgrading it via 9.1.0.4, 10.2.0.1, 10.2.0.4 -> Export and then, on the new environment, import on 10.2.0.4 en subsequently upgrade it to 10.2.0.5 and then 11.2 (and maybe some more patching afterwards).
But that takes way too long (downtime).
So would it be possible to do it the “easy way”:
Full Database Export of 9.0.1.3, import it into a brand new empty 11.2.0.4 and then upgrade Workspace Manager to 11.2 as well?
Or should we upgrade OWM to 11.2 in the old environment - and is that possible at all?
(FYI: Snippet from the OWM manuals : Workspace Manager supports the import and export of version-enabled tables in one of the following two ways: a full database import and export, and a workspace-level import and export through Workspace Manager procedures. No other export modes, such as schema, table, or partition level, are currently supported).
(On purpose cross-posted in the "Workspace Manager" Forum : Upgrading from 9.0.1.3 to 11.2.0.4 with Oracle Workspace Manager

The database is not that big (in fact there are two, both around 130Gb).
Affordable downtime is one weekend. The long way (with all patching and upgrading) takes around 100 hours...
We did raise an SR, but the answer was ... take the long way home ;-)
(But, FYI, I didn't raise the SR, so I don't know what question has been asked... If the original question was "how to upgrade", you get the official statement. If you don't ask for other options, you don't get them - so I ask it here...)
And I've seen that presentation... Thanks anyway.

  • Issues after Upgrade from Oracle 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.5 in Windows Server2003

    Good Morning Good People,
I have run in to some issues after upgrading my 10.1.0.5 database to 10.2.0.5. Initially after the firtst upgrade from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.0 one has to run Critical Patch set 4 to get to 10.2.0.5. Well after initial up grade everything worked fine. I could connect to the database from within the server as well as remotely through SQL*PLUS client. However, after completeing the patch I'm still able to connect to the database from within the server, but remotely i get the following error:
ORA-12514 : TNS Listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
I also get Error ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor The Connection descriptor used by the client was: (description=(address=(host=mcquery2)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=mcquery)(server=dedicated)))
I've tried serval different things to trouble shoot the issue but nothing seems to work.
If anyone has run into s similar issue please help. This is ruining my weekend! LOL!

Did you ever get a response? I'm merely trying to connect to a Sybase database - and it gives me a java.sql.SQLException:null  error - with no other information.
I'm running the server on Ubuntu 14.x, 64bit.
    Thanks.

  • After upgradation from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g,one proc is throwing error

recently upgraded from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g. We have some Oracle procedures which are not working in Oracle 10g.
A section of code from one of the procedures looks somewhat like the code below:
    Declare
    Cursor c_matched_records (…..) is
    Select a.field 1, b.field2
    From table1 a, table2 b
    Where a.field3=b.field1
    FOR UPDATE;
    BEGIN
    For records in c_matched_records
    LOOP
    -- Continue processing
    -- Update records
    COMMIT;
    END LOOP;
END;This section of the code throws out the following error in Oracle 10g
ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence during PUT outputFile file
However this code was working fine in Oracle 9i.
    please help me with this?
    Thanks

I believe you are lucky that the pl/sql is okay in Oracle 9i. How about remove the commit statement? Why do you need it in the loop. I look up metalink. You may refer to article ID 257914.1

  • Password problem in oracle 10g after upgrading from oracle 9i

    Hi to all,
    i'm migrating oracle 9i to oracle 10g. in oracle 9i username/password are same character(eg kareem/kareem)
after upgrading to oracle 10g will it create any problem. Because in oracle 10g the condition is when creating user is username and password should not contain same character (kareem/kareem not allowed).
    Thanks in advance

in oracle 10g document, they have mention below condition to create user. See the second condition.
    • Passwords must be between 4 and 30 characters long.
    • Passwords cannot be the same as the user name.
    • Passwords must be from the database character set and can include the underscore (_), dollar ($), and pound sign (#) characters.
    • Passwords cannot be Oracle reserved words.
    • Don't start the password with a numeral.
    • Don's use change_on_install or manager as passwords, since they are used by Oracle.
As i'm going to upgrade oracle 9i to 10g. if it give problem because username and password are same then i have to request my development team to change the password in their application. Can you please verify and tell me.

  • Issue in oracle upgrade from 9i to 10g.

    Hi,
I have an MS access application running on oracle database.Recently database is upgraded from 9i to 10g.
After upgrade application is facing the conversion problem.it is throwing an error on varchar and time stamp field showing invalid timestamp message.NLS setting of both the version is same. Please suggest.

    Thank you,
Here are the answers of your queries.
Yes,This is affecting only MS access application because no other application is accessing this database.
No,No other component of the application is changed or upgraded it is only database which is upgraded.
The error is ORA-06502:PL/SQL:numeric or value error:Character to number conversion error.(In the application the value of this field is defind as Double and in database table it is VarChar and the system was working fine untill database upgrade after upgrade it is giving above error.)
For another field it is giving the error "No valid timestamp" although the same was working fine before upgrade.
No I have not traced the actual sessions but from the backup of 9i I have checked NLS setting and compared it with 10g and found that both are the same.
Hope I have not confused you.
