Upgrading from Origina iPhone to iPhone 3G

So as my title states I'm thinking of upgrading, I've had my OG iPhone for quite a while and after playing with a buddy's 3G phone I think I'm hooked. I'm just wondering if it is as simple as buying the phone and plugging into iTunes or what. Also I'm wondering if theres a required change in phone plans. Any help is appreciated, maybe this is easier than I am making it out to be.
Thanks in advance,
Anthony

the best thing about upgrading is if you ever crack your screen it's ALOT cheaper to fix! my husband cracked the screen on the original iPhone. the only problem was that the LCD and the Lens are connected so you have to replace both. However, on the 3G iPhone, the Lens and LCD are separate. So if you crack your screen, all you have to do is replace the Lens instead of both parts (LCD's are alot more expensive!). When I cracked my screen on the 3G iPhone, i mailed it in to a repair center called Dr. Cell Phone. they fixed it for $99 and sent it back to me on the same day. good service. here's their website just in case any of you already have that problem (hopefully not!): www.drcellphone.com

is it possible to upgrade from the original stainless steel 1st generation iPhone to the new iPhone3Gs.

Yes. I did. Order from the Apple Store. $199 for the 16GB, $299 for the 32GB. Two year contract required. They'll deliver it to your door. Activate in iTunes. Remove SIMM card from your old iPhone and do whatever you want with the old phone. zoz

  • Upgrading from Original iPhone to iPhone 3GS help!

Okay, I just read an article stating that it will cost a fat wallet to upgrade from the 3G to the 3GS, because of the whole contract early/late upgrade thing whatever. I still have the normal iPhone and I didn't upgraded to the new 3G. My contract has long been done and fulfilled. Do I have to pay the same crazy amount as 3G users to upgrade or will I have the benefit of buying it with the original $199/$299 price?

    Hey Leprechaun251,
I think you may have some luck here. As you said, you have already completed your 2-year contract, right?
If so, then I think you can enjoy that subsidized price by opening a new two-year AT&T wireless service contract.
Still, I think you should contact AT&T to clear this ideas. Hope this helps!

  • Best way to upgrade from original iPhone to 3Gs?

I've got an original iPhone that's having some problems which may make me get a 3Gs.
I'm looking for suggestions, tips, advice on things to consider when making the switch. Will the iTunes backup be sufficient to keep all my data, apps, contacts, calendars and everything else?
    Any input is appreciated.

Couple things I'd add to what's already posted...
    1) Over the several upgrades I've done from 2G to 3G to 3GS for some reason I've found that not upgrading from a back up seems to give me a better end result...obviously the choice is yours...but if you have synced all data like calendars contacts email etc with a MAC or PC that will just be transferred back during your first sync then no harm in starting fresh with a clean copy of the 3.1.2 OS and then adding all data on...
    2) When you upgrade, make sure you're using the very latest versions of iTunes...then make sure that ALL apps are up to date on BOTH iTunes AND iPhone BEFORE you sync for first time...for some reason I've found folks, myself included having issues with authorization and apps not transferring and most times it was due to the entire app library not being up to date on both sides before the upgrade...

  • Upgrade from Original iPhone

I have an original iPhone and it says on AT&T that I can get a discounted upgrade. Does anyone know how much this would be?
Also do you know if any AT&T dealers still have an 8G White iPhone for Sale?

"Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. Existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G should check with AT&T or use www.apple.com/iphone/buy to find out if they are eligible for early upgrade pricing: $299 (8GB), $399 (16GB), or $499 (32GB) with a new two-year contract. For those who are not eligible for an early upgrade or who wish to buy iPhone as a gift, the prices are $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). In CA, MA, and RI, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of iPhone."

  • Upgrading from Original to 3GS. Please help.

I am wanting to upgrade my original generation iPhone to the newer 3Gs. I am planning on giving my wife the original generation iPhone to replace her Blackberry Curve. My question is:
Once I purchase the new 3Gs, will the new phone sync with iTunes and put all my current Apps like I have everything on this current phone? I assume once I register the phone with iTunes my phone number will be transferred to the new phone? As for my wife, how will she get her phone number to the original iPhone that I am giving her? Does she just register the original phone on iTunes as well or should she swap out her SIM card with the one in the original phone?
Please help, this is my first iPhone upgrade and I don't want to mess anything up and lose all my Apps that I have. Thanks!

See this: How to replace an original iPhone with an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
Here are AT&T's instructions for your wife: Give these instructions to the new iPhone user to activate or upgrade:
Customers new to AT&T or adding a new line to an AT&T account:
    1. If an AT&T SIM card is not provided, visit an AT&T Store and inform them you need a SIM card for your iPhone (www.wireless.att.com/find-a-store/).
    2. If an AT&T SIM card is provided, insert the SIM card into iPhone.
IMPORTANT: If your activation was processed in an AT&T store, you must choose the Existing
    Customer option in iTunes.
    3. Complete the activation process at home or work via iTunes at www.apple.com/itunes
    Existing AT&T Customers
    1. Use current AT&T SIM card.
    2. Complete the activation process at home or work via iTunes at www.apple.com/itunes
The iTunes activation process will perform a credit check when activating a new line of service. iTunes will also allow you to transfer your number from a different wireless carrier, select a rate plan and required data plan, upgrade your text message package, set up your iTunes account, accept iPhone and AT&T Terms and Conditions, and download the latest version of software to your iPhone.
How to Insert/Remove the SIM Card
To insert the SIM card, insert the end of a small paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray (located at the top of your iPhone). Press firmly and push it straight in until the tray pops out. Insert the SIM card so that it is positioned within the tray’s form. The gold side will be visible if the SIM card is positioned correctly. Close the tray.

  • Upgrading from original iPhone

In July I am getting iPhone4, is it possible to transfer contacts, texts, bookmarks, game data etc from iPhone1 to iPhone4?
If not is their a work around?

Ok, I read that they had to have the same OS and as iPhone one can't have iOS4 I wanted to make sure that that is possible.

  • Cannot download photos from original 1st gen iphone

An aunt passed on her old 1st gen iphone (16GB) to my son for Christmas as a starter phone.  We cannot get the photos he shot Christmas to download to our Windows vista computer. The only way we can get a photo off this phone  seems to be by email - one at a time -Surely there is some better way!
I've downloaded iTunes and it will back-up the phone, but I can't find any way to see the photos.  Following an old discussion we tried to look at the phone files without iTunes (clicking on it in My computer ) and it wants to format the disk.
The phone wants us to connect to MobileMe, but we don't have an account and it is closed to new registrations, and you need a higher iOS to connect to iCloud.    We have downloaded and tried Diskaid based on another discussion and it can't seem to see the phone either, but iTunes can. I cannot find a way to seach the app store and filter by iOS version, in order to find a some other file transfer program that works with 3.1.3 - they all seem to require 4.0 or higher.
I thought Apple was supposed to be user-friendly...but it certainly doesn't seem to support older equipment users very well.

When there are photos in the Camera Roll, the iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to a compatible computer. Photos in the Camera Roll can be imported by the computer as with any other digital camera, which is not handled by iTunes.
Try the Windoze scanner and camera wizard, which works with every iPhone and iOS version beginning with the first - 1.0.

  • How do I upgrade from original iPad to a new iPad Air?

Getting a new iPd Air for Christmas from the best wife in the world.  Currently have an original iPad that I would like to sweep clean and give to my young grandson for education games.  The current iPad is backed up on iTunes

On your one, do a full backup.
Then when you set up your Air, as you go through the process you'll need to choose to set up as new or restore from the backup of your old one. Choose to restore from backup if you want your new one to be a near clone of the old one.
Once you're satisfied you have everything off the old one that you need, go into the settings, general, erase all content and settings. This puts your old one back to an 'out of box' state, where all that's on it are the bundled apps and your grandson can set it up as he or his parents wish.

  • T430 BIOS upgrade from original 1.11

I purchased a T430 23445PU that came with Windows 7 Pro and the BIOS ver sion 1.16.  I want to be able to upgrade the PC to Windows 10 when it becomes available.  The question is:  Do I need to update the BIOS to the latest version, and if I do,  can I update to the latest version directly without incrementally updating through previos versions?  Thanks for any advice.  LarryT

    Hi LarryT,
    Thank you for the reply!
I am unable to understand your query on UEFI.
But I want to inform you that Windows 10 will support on both the partition table (GPT & MBR), it is not mandatory that you have to use UEFI settings.
Note: There will be no drivers, or limited drivers for your model as it is not listed under Windows 10 supported system.
MICROSOFT WINDOWS 10: LENOVO SUPPORTED SYSTEMS
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgrading from 3GS to 4S tomorrow.  iOS5 a necessity on my 3GS first?

I'm upgrading to a 4S tomorrow. My 3GS is currently backed up, but not with iO S5.  Can I restore from backup with the 4S successfully without making a backup of my 3GS with iO S 5?

All previous versions of iOS you do not have to update your old iPhone for the Back Ups to work perfectly. Many users will be going from Original and 3G iPhones which cannot go to iOS5. You will have to update iTunes however.

  • Upgrade from free EE to EE monthly pay (Samsung S6 edge) and it does not work

Hi, Today 28th of July, I upgraded from a free EE iphone 4S which i bought back in December 14 to a Samsung S6 edge.
Same operator. Same number. BUT I can't use it as it shows only "Emergency calls only". I also can't use my former phone as the mobile service has been disabled on it. The salesperson at carphone warehouse said that my contract would run the moment he finished my application (which was midday). SO I have paid for a service which I cannot use. I need my phone for my job.I would like to speak to someone at EE but as I don't have a phone I will have to use my work's phone which I am not allowed to do.
I feel disatisfied, very disatisfied by EE and it's not the first time. They are cheap but It seems that they do everything to disgust you from using them.
    Regards,

    Hi,
Carphone warehouse lied and it is not the first time if you read other peoples posts. EE are not responsible for them and they need to make the request to EE to transfer your account over I suspect to a new sim?
It can also take up to 48 hours at busy times and is obviously from the time CPW make the request.
    Thanks,

You should have turned iMessage off before disabling the phone. Do you still have the phone so you can turn iMessage off? If not, you will need to go to Apple support on their website and delete the product from your profile.
