Upgrading from PSE 10 best way download or buy disks

I am not computer savy for starters. I have PSE 10 and need to upgrade but don't want to lose my photos in my organizer or lose organization (happened to me in past when updated). Is best way to prevent this by downloading a new version or buying the actual disks at a store? Also if I buy a new computer in the coming months will I need physical disks to put it on my new system or is there a way to get program and contents back if downloaded from old computer?

Here are directions pertaining to the Organizer
Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later

You can purchase physical disks for installation, or download. You should consider that your new computer may not have a CD/DVD drive depending on what you purchase.

  • Best way to upgrade from PSE 5.0 to PSE 8

I have installed, as an administrator, PhotoShop Elements 5.0, for a user.  I wan to upgrade that to PhotoShop Elements 8.
What is the best way to do this?
When I did this several years ago, going from PhotoShop Album 2.0 to PSE 5.0 it was suggested to do this, which I did:
I backed up the catalog through the menu option in PhotoShop Album.  Uninstalled PhotoShop Album, Installed the new PhotoShop Elements 5.0.  Restored the catalog.  This worked perfectly fine.  Is this a good route to go for an upgrade from PSE 5 to PSE 8?  Is there a better way?
    Thanks for any tips.
    Mark Miesfeld

    Thanks for the quick response.
The user on this system mostly uses PhotoShop Elements 5.0 to orgainize her photos.  I don't think she does much editing of the photos.  She has over 20,000 photos.
I thought that upgrading ti PSE 8 would give her better performance.  But, I now see several reviews saying that the orgainizer performance in PSE 7 and PSE 8 is worse.
Do you have any comment on that?
    Thanks again.

  • Upgrading from PSE 9 to 12

I tried to do this several times but each time it failed. When I checked my account it said that "It may take 24 hours for my order to be processed. Is this the reason why my download failed?

Hi Kuideep, thanks it is fixed now. I downloaded it again last night and it worked.

  • Tag issue when upgrading from PSE 7 to 11

I've upgraded from PSE 7 to 11 and the tags for people, while there, do not appear in the "people" section fo PSE11. Any suggestions on how to get them all to show?

In PSE11, people tags have been moved to People view, this view contains all people tags along with categories. In case you want to view them along with tags panel, it can be enabled through View->Show People in Tag panel.

  • Photoshop Upgrade from PsE?

Can I buy a upgrade to photoshop if all I have is elements 12?
[Title changed for clarity - Hunt]

    Cutiepaatudy,
Going back many years, Adobe did offer a form of Competitive Upgrade from PsE to Ps, but I have not seen one of those in a very long time.
As JJMack points out, PsE is not in any upgrade path now, but with the CC (Creative Cloud) subscription license, one can get Ps for a fairly low payment. Also, Adobe has done a bit of "bundling" of a few other programs, so that might be a good route.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I will also change the title of the post, to reflect an Upgrade question, to help others with the same, or very similar question. They can benefit from JJMack's response.

  • Upgrades from PSE 9

Is it possible to purchase an upgrade from Elements 9 or 10 to CS5?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Yes, but it's not officially offered all the time. You don't qualify for the PS version to version upgrade price of $199, but you can frequently upgrade from PSE to PS for $299. If you call adobe sales and ask nicely, sometimes they'll give you that price when it's technically not available.

  • Upgrading from PSE to CS6

I've created a lot in PSE9 and am tired of the limitations. If I upgrade from PSE to CS6 will the new program convert my old creations from RGB to CMYK?

What do you mean by creations? CMYK is only relevant to printing.

    Done. Thank you, Allan.
The sparse image article you sent a link to needs a little updating (or there's some variability in prompts (no password was required) with my OS and/or Disk Utility version), but it worked.
Phew! It would have been much more time consuming to use Time Machine to recover all my photos after repartitioning the drive.

  • Trouble upgrading from PSE 3.0 to PSE 8.0

I'm getting an unusable format of my ver 8.0 when upgrading from ver 3.0. My 3.0 PHOTO browser is OK but my 3.0 FILE browser is a mess because I moved many files by "getting" pictures and "deleting from catalog" rather than using the FILE browser in Editor. Does ver 8.0 look at the PHOTO browser or the FILE browser when installing. If this is the problem, is there a way to re-initialize or update the ver 3.0 file browser before I install ver 8.0. I'm using Windows XP SP3. I'll appreciate any help. I'm stuck.

I have used Windows Explorer to managemy directories and files for some time. Last night while trying to get a handle on what was happening I found two troubling things. First, adding or deleting categories and sub-categories in PSE 3 Organizer does not add or delete them in the Editor File Browser. Not having used the File Editor for some time I never discovered this. I'm sure that somewhere, early on in my use of PSE 3, I found information that lead me to believed that the two browsers held the same information.
The second thing has also escaped me for some time because I ignored the File Browser. There was a second copy of the Documents folder and the My Pictures folder in the File Browser. These were relics from a long time ago when I had placed shortcuts to both the Documents folder and the My Pictures folder on my desktop because it made it easier to access them. As I grew more familiar with using the program I realized that a shortcut to Windows Explorer was all I needed. So, I sent both the Documents and Pictures shortcuts to the Recycle bin. That, of course, as I found with Categories and Sub-categories, did not remove the short cuts from the File Browser. I was not aware that the shortcuts were still in the File Browser. All of this simply means that when I tried to upgrade to PSE 8 it was confused. When I removed PSE 8 after the bad install things got more scrambled.
I have removed the second copies of Documents and Pictures and am now starting on the, I'm afraid, long process of getting my files in order. It's clear to me why the two browsers didn't agree. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

  • Upgrading from PSE 3 to PSE 8

I have a new computer with Windows 7 and PSE 8
The old computer is Windows XP running PSE 3.
I want to move files to my new computer and convert the catalogs.
I don't want to store the image files in the same drive/path as on the old computer.
So the catalog will have a drive and path stored in it that no longer exists.
What is the best way to do this?
It seems simple, just convert he catalog then "reconnect files",  but PSE 3 was terrible at the "reconnect files" option.
Once I had to manually select thousands and thousands of files because I moved the JPG images.
I am hoping this feature has improved.  I figured that since I kept the same folder structure, just a new base directory that PSE 3 would know that once I had told it where one of the files was, that it could figure out the rest, but it did not, it forced me to do every single file.
I eventually gave up and found out that I could open the catalog file in Microsoft Access and use an update query to change the path in the database.
Is the catalog still in MS Access format?
Thanks for any and all help.
    Peter

Reconnect files seems to be even worse.  It just hangs up at 2213 of 34284.

  • Best way to burn a disk from FCP?

I'm having some problems with disk readability. I sent my under-one-hour video from FCP to Compressor and then sent the MPEG-2 & AIFF files into DVDSP. From there I burned the DVD. It plays fine on my Mac and tabletop player but the disk doesn't play on another player. What's the best way to get a playable disk? Starting with FCP, should the encoding settings (if so, where exactly) match DVDSP and/or Compressor's? For better reliability should I burn the disk in Toast, and if so, how do I do this? Thanks alot. I'm not tech-savvy, so please pardon the questions. Also, should Dolby audio only be used if the video is under one hour?

Technically speaking, you don't "burn a disc from FCP." You export from FCP, then use other programs to encode, author and burn the disc.
DVD-Video playback compatibility depends on many factors, primarily the bit rate used for encoding and the quality of the media (blank disc).
While using a high bit rate does help with maintaining quality, if it's too high it can cause playback problems (skips, stutters, etc). Using poor quality media can cause the same playback problems, or can sometimes cause no playback at all. For example, never, never, NEVER use Memorex discs - they tend to always be at the bottom of the quality barrel.
I always use AC3 audio set around 192 to 224kbps ... I have seen some players choke of the high data rate demands of AIF formatted audio.

  • Can i upgrade from PSE 10 to 11?

I have a friend who had PSE 10 and she updated to 11 through an update for free since she already owned the program. I own the program and have the serial key and everything, so can i update too? I'm running on a Mac OS X and she is on Windows, if that makes any kind of a difference.

The only time you get a free upgrade from one version to the next is when you buy an old version after a newer one is announced/released. So if your friend bought PSE 10 after PSE 11 had been announced, yes, she might have gotten a free upgrade. Otherwise you must always purchase an upgrade from one version of PSE to any later version.
EDIT and most of the time it makes more sense to buy the full version instead of the upgrade, since if you shop around it's usually available cheaper than adobe's upgrade price.

  • How to maintain tags when upgrading from PSE 5 to PSE 12?

I'm upgrading from Photoshop Elements version 5 to version 12, as my current version is not working properly. (Possibly corrupted?). It will not allow me to backup my catalog - the software freezes after a period of time during the "Reconnecting Files" stage. I'm reluctant to proceed in fear of losing the thousands of tags I have if the installation process does not go smoothly (since I don't have a backup of my catalog). Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately my situation may be worse than I
originally thought. ALL of my files are showing that they are "Missing" and
need to be "Reconnected," however the software freezes when I try to
reconnect. I still have the photo files under "My Photos" on my hard drive
but if the "Reconnect" is not made before launching Version 12, doesn't
that mean that I will lose all the cataloging/tags made in Photoshop? I
plan to install PSE12 on the same machine. I'm at a loss on how to proceed.
It would be so disappointing to lose hundreds of hours of organization over
a ten year time period on thousands of photos.

PSE 12 is not recognizing my scanner.  I can use my scanner software so now that it is working in OS 10.8.5
I think the plug-ins were not transferred from PSE 10 to 12 ??????   There is a twain in the plug-in folder.??
    Help ????????

Dear Barbara B.   thanks for your continued replies.  I re-installed PSE 12 and DID EXACTLY AS YOU SAID.
My optional plug-in folder that includes Twain in NOW IN THE PLUG-IN FOLDER.  I did take a screen shot
of this but cannot attach to this e-mail.   It still does not work.
When I'm in PSE 12 and to to the file drop down box.Close All, Save, Import, Export Export creations are all in light grey color.  This is when I even open a file that is already on my desktop.

  • HT201364 what is the best way to open up disk space on my macbook pro

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FREE DISK SPACE ON MY MACBOOK PRO,  I NEED SPACE TO DOWNLOAD YOSEMITE

DO NOT delete files in your Home Folder -> Library tree as there are things like your iPhone backups, your email messages, your application preferences, etc...
DO NOT delete files outside your home folder, as you may end up deleting something essential to Mac OS X, and turn your Mac into an expensive “Door Stop”.
I will point out that you will find some very large files in private -> var -> vm (these are the Mac OS X virtual memory paging files (swapfiles) and where Mac OS X stores the copy of RAM when your Mac is put to sleep).  The swapfiles get deleted on reboot, and the sleep image is just going to be created again when you put your Mac to sleep.
If you think you have found something to delete outside your home folder, it would be best to ask first before deleting.  There are many examples of people deleting files outside their home folder, or renaming files, or changing the ownership or permissions of files, and then their Mac stops running.  Do not be one of those people.  Ask first.
PS.  Please do not use ALL CAPS for your entire messages.  In the world of text messages, forums, etc... ALL CAPS is shouting, and we haven't done anything that annoying yet
