Upgrading from Retail copy to TLP

Hi all.... just wondering about the process of upgrading our CS5 retail box copies to CS6, and at the same time moving them into our TLP Licensing scheme?
Ive made a few calls to Adobe, and no one is really willing to give me a straight answer about it.
Thanks,
Dekkar

Volume licenses are not "upgrades". You simply buy a TLP license. Whether or not your existing software will figure in, will depend on the specific conditions, but you won't know until you contact sales.

  • Inventory Module Upgrade from 11i to R12 - How to Copy Inventory Orgs.

    Hi All,
We are working on R12 Upgrade project for Item Conversion.
Requirement is to upgrade and bring all the Item setup and data from 11i to R12.
As part of setup requirement, there are around 1900 Inventory Orgs in 11i instance. Please let me know what is the best approach / strategy to copy and bring over the 1900 Inventory Orgs.including the Master Org from 11i to R12.
Your inputs will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance !
    Regards,
    Nityanand.

Reporting Set of Books (MRC) in 11i is called as Alternate Currency Ledgers (ALC Ledger) in R12.
After 11i upgrade, the reporting SOBs (MRCs) will be automatically changed to ALCs in R12.
Some are primary and some are used as reportingI hope you are talking about MRCs.
When we upgrade from 11i to r12, all the SOBs would be created as primary ledgers (as per oracle)If they are not MRCs and it is getting upgraded as primay ledger, you may create new ALC for your requirement.
In that case you may need a datafix from Oracle to fix the old data.

  • I have a hdd from late 2009 that I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard to lion to mountain lion.  I want to upgrade the hdd to ssd.  Do I need to buy a new copy of mountain lion to install on the ssd?  If not, then what is the procedure to transfer?

I have a hdd from a late 2009 mbp.  I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard to lion to mountain lion.  Now I want to upgrade to a ssd.  Do I need to purchase a new copy of mountain lion to go on my new ssd? If I don't, then what is the procedure to transfer mountain lion with my 4 user accounts onto the new ssd from the hdd?
I'm confused on if I can use the recovery hd on a thumb drive to install mountain lion on my ssd.  Will it be pheasible with so many OS X upgrades?  And then how do I get my user accounts onto the ssd from the hdd.  Do I use migration assistant?  Do I need to make a time machine backup first?  Should I use something called Carbon Clone or something like that?
    Thanks for reading

If you have a cable that connects and external HDD to the MBP, it will do.  If it is something like this, an  enclosure will not be needed for the swap:
An enclosure allows you to use your old HDD for storage or backup purposes.  The cable will not.
Here are instructions as to how the swap can be performed using DISK UTITY.  Substitute You cable for the enclosure in same:
INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MBP
    1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
    2. You will need a HDD enclosure.  One with a USB connection will do.  A 9 pin Firewire is better.
    3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
    4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE.  From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field.  Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.  Click on the 'Erase' button.
    5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top).  Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination'  field.  Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more.  A Firewire will speed up the transfer.  This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
    6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives.  Start the MBP and you have finished the installation.  The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
    7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.
If there is any confusion on your part, post back.
    Ciao.

  • I want to put windows 7 on my iMac. Do I use Windows 7, 64 bit System Builder or do I use a "retail copy" of the Windows 7, 64 bit ? Microsoft says I should use the System Builder copy. A technical support individual from Apple said use the "retail copy"

A Microsoft technical advisor said that the "retail copy" of Windows 7, 64 bit Home Premium would not work with Boot Camp to put the Windows operating system on the IMac. She said that I would have to use the System Builder copy of Windows 7 to put it on my iMac. An Apple technical advisor told me that I had to use the "retail copy" of Window 7 because that was the one used by Apple when they developed the Boot Camp program.  I have also seen some articles from Apple that suggests that both copies of Windows 7 would work OK. Does anyone have any experience that shows which one or both I should purchase to put on my computer?

    Welcome to ASC!
I used the 64-bit System Builder Edition when I bootcamped my 2010 iMac a couple of years ago. Worked perfectly--installed a very lean system. Without all the extra cr@pware that comes preinstalled on name-brand Win computers, the SBE OS actually works darned well.
However, that was under Mac OS 10.6.8 which remains on that computer for compatibilty reasons not related to Windows. Haven't BCed any newer Mac OS, so your mileage may vary.

  • Can one upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 as a Retail Product or does one need to do it as a Volume License?

Can one upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 as a Retail Product or does one need to do it as a Volume License?

Well, depends on what your CS5.5 actually is. If it came as a volume license, the upgrade terms would be determined by the specifics of the volume licensing model chosen... Anyway, that's way too specific. Contact sales support by phone or web chat to haggle things out.

  • I am upgrading from Tiger to SL in a MCBPro with 2 gb ram and an intel chip and I get the following notice:  Installation failed.... THE INSTALLER COULD NOT COPY THE NCESSARY SUPPORT FILES. Any help is apprciated

I am upgrading from Tiger to SL in a MCBPro with 2 gb ram and an intel chip and I get the following notice:  Installation failed.... THE INSTALLER COULD NOT COPY THE NCESSARY SUPPORT FILES. Any help is appreciated...

Yes.   I've found that works best.  Especially if the drive is external, since external connections are typically slower, and Spotlight loves to eat up space going back and forth.   Time Machine will eat up as much space as it can, and typically needs drives at least twice the size of the original hard drive that is being backed up, if being backed up in full.   So unfortunately there is a lot of empty space that is needed for smooth operation.

  • How to create a Windows 7 USB install disk from a retail copy of Windows 7.

I have Mac Book Pro and a iMac. Somehow Superdrive of my iMac is broke. Now I want to install a copy of a Original Retail Copy of Windows7 but I can't.
Bootcamp 4 allows to make a USB Drive but the option is greyed out whatever I try.
Please Help me to install Windows 7 on my Mac.

you restart your mac and as soon as it boots up (usually you hear the dvd making a noise, or the gong sound), you hold down the Alt key until you see a screen that shows you all the partitions/drives you can boot from. you select the boot camp one, while the windows usb installation disk is inserted and it should boot up from the usb. it worked for me, but I can't guarantee it will work for you too... depending on your model. mine is an early-2009 macbook.

  • HT1386 My husband and I both upgraded from the 3 to the iPhone 4.  When activating them, it copied all of my stuff to my new phone.  Then we did my husbands....and he got all of my stuff too!  Instead of what was on his old iphone 3. Help. Please.

My husband and I upgraded from the iPhone 3 to the iPhone 4.  I activated mine and all was good.  I activiated his and while syncing....instead of transfering his contacts, apps and ect.  All of my contacts, apps and ect. were loaded on his phone as well.  How do I change this.  Please help.  Thank you!

At this point it would be best to restore both phones. Do backups of both old phones, and restore new phones from those backups. (make you choose the correct backup for each phone or you'll back were you started).
You can use multiple devices with the same computer, and even the same itunes library. Howevever, it may be easier just to set up seperate user accounts on the computer for the future.

  • How do i upgrade from OS 10.4.11 to 10.5 or later?

i have a powerbook G4 and am having trouble running many of the newest apps, programs and updates. they all say i need OS 10.5 or later.
however, even after searching through help pages, i'm not so sure what to purchase or install in order to make this upgrade without having to just buy OS 10.5, erasing everything i currently have and installing everything from scratch.

With a PowerPC- based Mac, your OS X upgrade capability is to Leopard OS X 10.5(.8)
via a retail install DVD; with updates to that available by download from Apple Support.
    • *Requirements for Mac OS X v10.5:*

    http://mactracker.ca (also see http://everymac.com specs)
The computer has to be capable of running the OS X version, to include adequate RAM
installed (probably to the maximum supported by the build model of computer) and also
a larger capacity replacement hard disk drive, to be rid of the likelihood of the original
HDD being near failure due to several years of use.
Also, when upgrading from one OS to another, a complete archive of the computer's
OS X and applications can be made on an external FireWire self-powered enclosure,
a boot-capable drive for a Clone. This is a method, among several, to upgrade and
to also keep use of the current system; but not have the older OS X in the computer.
{A hard disk drive upgrade could include a SSD solid-state 'drive' such as the new
Legacy SSD from OWC for the PATA/ATA computers; those which can't use SATA.
The same reseller also has a top-flight external enclosure with HDD inside, one
    with its own power supply and various port options; capable of booting Mac OS X.}
With a new drive in the computer, the current drive could reside awhile in a FW enclosure.
Ultimately, the original computer's HDD (if not replaced already) would be best upgraded.
If you seek an upgrade beyond Mac OS X 10.5(.8) Leopard, that requires an Intel-based
Mac computer; there may be some enticing ideas in Apple's online Store pages; to also
include the Special Deals - refurbished and clearance items, as available.
    • Apple - Support - *Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard* (support links, answers)
    http://www.apple.com/support/leopard/
Leopard 10.5 DVDs are considered in short supply, and various sellers have bid the price
to some higher than rational numbers. However, you may still be able to get a full official
copy from Apple; call their 1-800-MY-APPLE main number & ask to speak with a product
specialist. You'd need Leopard 10.5 DVD ($129) in order to use your PPC G4 with the new
products and software available; and if you have an iPhone or iPad that needs OS X 10.5
mention that, too. In order to support new products & a newer iTunes, you'd need Leopard.
Since development continues, and the latest software focuses on recent OS X, the 10.6
Snow Leopard and Intel-based Macs appear to be the upgrade path; ahead to 10.7...
You could get a newer model computer; even 'special deals' Macs include a recent OS X.
{Before the rush, I was able to get two Leopard DVD install sets; one, free and the other, $10.
    The idea was to upgrade two - of my four - G4 PPC Macs to 10.5.8; the other two stay 10.4.11.}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do I reinstall the OS when I upgraded from a download?

Like I said, I upgraded to 10.4 from a software update download - no disks involved. Which leaves me in a bind here when my finder crashes and won't launch, no matter what. I tried an archive and restore from Disk Utilities from my old 10.3 install disk, but that won't work, as it can't restore anything above 10.3, understandably enough. So I figure it will work if I do it from a 10.4 disk, but I don't have one. My only other option is to shell out for an external drive, and do the whole clone, wipe, and clone back option. But even if I did that, how would I reinstall 10.4? So would it be possible to get a free Tiger install disk from Support to use its Disk Utilities, given my current plight and seeing as how I've already bought it? And if I can't and have to go with an external drive, how would I go about reinstalling the OS anyway?

Tiger as an upgrade to Panther was never made available online via a download. If another user downloaded it from an online site, it probably was a place where they pirated a copy of Tiger that was hacked. Therefore any instability is because you have a pirated copy of the software. Get a legal copy of the software, and then we'll be able to help you. Please read the terms of use as far as participating in illegal activities. Tiger is only licensed for use with the machine that came with it, or the retail version that you purchase at a store or through the up to date program which only was available for Macs made from April 8th to April 29th, 2005. Anything else is an illegal version of Tiger. Speak to that other user and find out what their real source was. If you bought a retail copy from them, be sure they have gotten rid of any copies of their's.
The term "Download" means it was gotten off the internet, and therefore why we have any consternation trying to help you. Tiger was never made available as an internet downloadable product for Panther installations. Updates to existing Tiger installations were made available via download. But you are saying you updated Panther via download, which can't be done legally.
Disk Utility is not available stand alone.
Why do you say getting the retail versions are out of the question now? The retail version is available from any of a number of retail outlets and they do work with with all G4s, except those that came with a newer version of 10.4, in which case, you want to call AppleCare for the original restore disks if the original owner of the G4 lost them.

  • Upgrading from tiger (10.4.11) to snow leopard 10.6

Is buying the box set a MUST to upgrade from tiger to snow leopard?? I just need the update to run a piece of hardware. I don't WANT all that other stuff.

It does not make a difference where the family pack came from when the owner only has one computer, and they are part of my family.
First you said you had a friend who had the "multi family pack," now you imply this is a family member, so which is it?
Regardless, what matters is that only persons located in *the same household* can use the same Family Pack license. This is clearly stated at the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Family Pack - Apple Store (U.S.) web page & in the Snow Leopard EULA pdf. From the store page:
    *About the Family Pack*
The Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that household. By “household” we mean a person or persons who share the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home, or condominium, including students who are primary residents of that household but reside at a separate on-campus location. This license does not extend to business or commercial users.
And this information now has also has some form the gentlemen that I am now dealing with to know repair the computer and put is back to a working order.
I'm sorry but I don't know what this sentence means or how it is supposed to relate to this topic. No Apple tech is going to tell you that you must upgrade to a different version of Snow Leopard to fix anything if you have a legitimately licensed retail copy of that OS -- there is just the one version suitable for those upgrading from Tiger, sold with one of two licenses.

  • How to Upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.5.1

Hi - I am new to upgrading - my system is a 1.42 GHz PowerP G4 with 512 MB DDR SDRAM.
How do I go from 10.3.9 to 10.5.x without losing my documents, downloads and photos?
Do I need to buy and older upgrade version of Tiger first?
Which version - the upgrade, the bundle?
Or, can I get a 10.5.x that will cover the span?

You will need to purchase a retail copy of Leopard from an Apple retailer or the Apple Online Store. You should then plan to add more RAM to your computer as 512 MBs is the bare minimum. You can expand the RAM to 1 GB. This is not really the ideal for Leopard but it's usable.
You have two upgrade install options: Upgrade Install and Archive and Install. I would suggest doing the latter:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. After permissions have been repaired quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Upgrading from Adobe Photoshop CS

My cousin took her Photoshop CS from her computer and copied the file to mine. It is missing some functions. I recently upgraded my system to 10.5.3 and was wondering what the next Adobe Photoshop program I could get to upgrade and have all working functions. Hopefully this upgrade will be under $100... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did she transfer the license to you, give you the original software discs and delete the software from her computer? If so, check the Adobe website for upgrade availability and cost.
If she just "copied the file(s)" to your computer and did not give you the discs and delete the software from from her computer, this is a violation of the license from Adobe, is illegal, is against the Terms of Use for these forums, etc., and you shouldn't expect to get any help for that here. Go buy a retail copy of Adobe CS3.

  • Upgrading from windows xp 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit

to get to the install menu for windows 7 i restarted on the OS X side and booted from the windows 7 install disc. the problem is that the install requires many restarts. the first time i did it i assumed it would just go back to the windows 7 installation screen and resume what it was doing, but it didn't - it just started in OS X. so i restarted and booted from the disc again hoping it would resume where it left off, but again it didn't.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can upgrade from XP to 7, you would need to buy a full retail copy.  If you can find a Vista with a free windows 7 upgrade, I would do that.
Having said that, your PD 820 supports 64 bit, so I would recommend doing that.  The retail copy of Windows 7 will come with both 32 and 64 bit.  It seems to be the time that most programs are being built for x64 archetecture, so you might as well get on board.  you may not see the benefits yet, but in a few years you may.
I'll say, I ran 32 bit vista, had a bunch of issues with it, switched to 64 bit and its ran flawlessly.
