Upgrading from Touch to iPhone?

I love my Touch but would like the 3G internet everywhere functionality of the iPhone, so I'm thinking about upgrading. How easy is it to transfer all my applications, settings, ebooks in Stanza, etc. from the Touch to the iPhone? What will iTunes tranfer and what won't it transfer?
Thanks for any guidance on the subject!

Your email account settings, your Mac address book contacts, your Safari bookmarks will sync through iTunes, just as they do on your iPod. Applications will sync, but the data that they accumulate will not.
Don't know about Stanza stuff.
iTunes creates separate backup files for my iPhone and my iPod Touch. i haven't found a way (or a need) to combine these backups. That means, for example, that if I play a game on the iPhone and the iPod, the high scores and other game data is separate for each device.

  • Upgrading from Touch to iPhone 3GS

I've ordered an iPhone 3GS, and was wondeirng how I can migrate all of my APPS (purchased and free) as well as the data from those apps, over to my iPhone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Mike

When you sync the iPhone to iTunes for the first time you'll be asked to either register a new phone or restore the phone with one of you earlier backups. Since iPod touch backups can't be used for the iPhone then your only choice is to register the new 3GS. After registering and setting up your sync configuration, hit the sync button and all the media you set up to sync will move to the iPhone. Since application data is part of the iPhone or iPod touch backup file, and not kept with the applications themselves, I'm afraid you won't be able to get the data back.

Are the photos that you are referring to part of a camera roll, photo stream or are they simply photos that you have synced from your computer via iTunes.

  • If I upgrade from my old iPhone to a newer one, what info will I lose?

This is a different situation than usual.  My daughter needs to upgrade from her iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5s.  She is afraid she will lose the text messages and voice mails from her boyfriend, who died in June.  Her 4 is essentially falling apart, so it's time to switch.  Is there a way she can save the text messages and voice mails from her old phone to her new one?  She's never used iCloud, since she syncs her phone on her MacBook Pro via iTunes. ot a
I am not a techie, so please use plain English.
    Thanks.

In her situation you can also get programs that will extract content from an iPhone backup in iTunes. This would be a good way to archive the texts. And you can also copy them from the phone itself using 3rd party software such as TouchCopy.
I am sorry for her loss; it is especially tragic when young.

  • How do I upgrade from a 3G iphone and an ipod touch to our new I4's?

My wife and I have both upgraded phones to the I4. She had a 3G and this is my first iphone. With the upgrade in phones, we also upgraded our desktop to a new imac. Our old imac didn't meet system requirement for the I4 and it was time.
We'd like to keep the old imac and not migrate all the information to the new one. However, I need to move our iphone/ipod files to the new imac so that we can sync our new iphones.
I have updated all the software on both imacs. I backed-up the 3G and then tried to restore with the I4 on the new imac, but my apps didn't come along and I lost the utilities app. I was thinking of erasing and reformatting back to factory settings.
Can someone help me with how I move all of my iphone/ipod files to the new computer and then sync the new phones?
    Thank you,
    Aaron

3rd party apps are stored in your iTunes library or media folder along with all other iTunes content - music, movies, TV shows, and podcasts.
Copy and transfer your iTunes library from your old Mac to your new Mac. Copy the iTunes named folder in your Music folder and with iTunes quit on your new Mac, place the iTunes folder in the Music folder. This will replace an existing iTunes folder in the Music folder. You also need to authorize your new Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.

  • Upgrading from iPod to iPhone

I apologize for asking, 'cause I'm sure this question has been asked before, possibly many times - but my wife has a 30GB iPod and I'm trying to get her to upgrade to an iPhone. She's using about 7.5 GB of her iPod so I assume I'd have to get her the 16GB iPhone?
If she does, will the software keep her iPod contacts and tunes, etc.? What would be the best way to approach this so she doesn't lose what she has in the iPod version of iTunes she's currently running? Can I just go ahead and run the "check for updates" and put iTunes 8.0.2 on it?

If she wants everything that is currently available on her iPod available on her iPhone, she needs a 16GB iPhone.
You can sync multiple iPods and/or iPhones with the same iTunes library, and with the supported applications on your computer. Which address book application on her computer is she using for transferring contact info to her iPhone via the iTunes sync process? If supported for syncing contact info with an iPhone, she can use the same address book application on her computer to sync contact info with her iPhone.
Installing an iTunes update on your computer does not affect iTunes content - which is stored completely separate from the application.

  • Upgrade from 1st generation iphone?

I bought the original Iphone when it first came out on June 29, 2007, and I haven't upgraded since; my question is can I go into an AT&T store and ask for an upgrade to the Iphone 3G S at little to no charge? Or am I going to have to buy the 3G S by itself and just possibly switch my old sim card into the new one??

    Hi,
You will most likely be eligible for an upgrade.
Try logging into your AT&T account and clicking Check Upgrade Options, from here: https://www.wireless.att.com
You can also check from the Apple online store here:

  • Transfer apps from Touch to iPhone

I am considering buying an iPhone when the new version is released this summer. I already own an iPod Touch filled with many downloaded apps, so my question is this: will I be able to transfer/copy these apps from the Touch to my new device, or will it be necessary to download each one again for the iPhone? Thanks in advance!

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account, there is no limit. So, yes you can put all of your existing content on any new iphone you purchase. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. Itunes will keep it all straight by device.

  • Upgrading from 3gs to iphone 4 activation

The 3gs is my first iPhone. I am upgrading to the iPhone 4 tomorrow. Do I just take the sim card out of the 3gs and put in the new one? Then go through itunes to activate? Any advise would be helpful.
    Thanks!

    Hey SJF.
Thanks for your response, when I got my 3GS, I did it through itunes, but since since I had MM (now icloud) I thought I'd try this way with my 4S. And I was surprised it was easier way to do it.
Now do I really need to connect my 4S to my computer for it to be sync with itunes or not?

  • Upgrading from 3GS to iphone 4S

    Hi all,
I just upgraded my phone from 3GS to 4S, and and I want to give my old 3GS to a family member of mine so they can use it with there number. I have already moved my number that I had over to the 4S and moved all my info over via iCloud it was pretty simple to do if you ask me. But I do have a couple of questions though.
    1) What is the best way to wipe the phone, either on the phone or via itunes on their computer?
    2) What's the best way to backup your phone, icloud or itunes?

  • Just upgraded from a 16g iphone 4 to 4s..

i had almost 2g free from my old phone, now it says i only have 20mb. Does the 4s software take up more space then the 4?
    thank you!!

    thank you for the tip!
well i backed up my phone about 10 days ago, so i have 21 app updates, so maybe if i update them all, it might help. Its just strange i went from almost 2gs free to a few mb.  Another thing to point out is even after i deleted about 200 songs from my phone, itunes said i had over 2gs free, but after i applied, it only went to about 1.5.
weird. looks like i just am going to have to delete more songs.

  • Upgrade from 2nd gen iPHone to 3G s

I have a second gereration iPhone, not a 3G. What will I need to do to transfer my contacts and settings over to my new 3G s when I get it?
Is this link accurate? I says original iPhone, not second generation.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
    Thanks

Sounds easy. Will this also activate the new 3Gs and it will then have my same phone number or will I still need to call AT&T?
