Upgrading from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate

This is a question for someone at Toshiba:
I have a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate DVD (given away a at conference I attended) and I'd like to use it to upgrade my Satellite laptop to Windows Vista Ultimate. This morning I did a clean install using this DVD but then when I installed the Toshiba drivers I found the HD-DVD player would not install.
I assume becuase it did not recognise the laptop as a Toshiba laptop, is this correct?
I hence used the Toshiba recovery CD to get back to a working laptop again (and spent all afternoon recovering all my files from backup) but I still want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. I could just change my system's product key (from Control Panel -> System) to a Vista Ultimate key but I'm concerned the Toshiba Value Added software (HD-DVD player, etc) will stop working.
Alternatively I could do an upgrade install from the DVD though this will take ages and again I'm concerned the Toshiba Value Added software will stop working.
Can someone at Toshiba confirm the safe way of upgrading to Vista Ultimate.
Thanks,
Darren

Hi Darren
Just one thing at the beginning:
>This is a question for someone at Toshiba
Sorry but you have misunderstood something. This is user-to-user forum and you will not get answer from Toshiba directly.
Back to described issue:
I have very good experience with Vista upgrade. I have installed clean Vista Ultimate version on my Satellite A200 notebook. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support page.
About Toshiba DVD player I can not say anything at the moment but reading similar posts it must be just an update and because of that it can not be installed on your notebook.
For me the best solution for you is to change activation key and use Vista Ultimate. When activated you can update all Toshiba stuff including VAP. It has no influence on preinstalled OS version.

  • Upgraded from Vista ultimate to Win. 7. Don't know how to install the tv tuner

I upgraded from Vista ultimate to Win. 7. When I tried to install the TV tuner, nothing seemed to happen.

Save the TV Tuner driver to the desk top and use 7zip to extract the files. There may be a folder there named SRC. Open that and look for the Windows install icon.
If you give me your full model number and the version of W7 (32 or 64 bit) you are running I can help you further with this manual installation procedure.

  • Upgrade from vista to windows 7 home premium

I want to upgrade from vista to windows home premium but I'm told I need to find out if my computer can actually support windows 7. Can someone tell me how do I find out if my computer is able to be upgraded to windows 7? I have an hp pavilion with a 32 bit operating system, the model number is a6207c. Thank you

Ok, I tried this and it said I needed to download and install Nvidia graphics driver version 309.08, I downloaded and installed this version just fine. I done option 2 again and now it says download and install version 353.30. I download this version but got an error when I tried to install it that says THIS GRAPHICS DRIVER COULD NOT FIND COMPATIBLE GRAPHICS HARDWARE. Do you know what I should do now to fix this?

  • Pre7 after upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 (Ultimate 64bit)

I recently upgraded my Vista Ultimate (64bit) computer to Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit).  This was an upgrade, not a clean, fresh install.  Today is the first time I have tried to run PRE7 under Windows 7.  Prior to the upgrade, I had no problems to speak of with PRE7 and the PhotoShop.com Plus account that I set up with it.  Now whenever I start PRE7 under Windows 7, I get the "Install Full Content" dialog informing me that a reduced set of content has been installed and that I need to install the full set of content from the installation DVD.  Now believe me when I say that the full set of content was installed under Vista and that I never got such a dialog box prior to Windows 7.  In addition, after clicking OK to continue, the PhotoShop.com membership did not log on automatically as I am used to it doing.  I don't remember exactly now what I had to do, but to the best of my recollection, after I logged on to my account it was telling me that I needed to verify my account, which I did.  I subsequently received an email with a verification link in it.  After clicking on the link my account was verified and now when I start PRE7, it automatically logs me on to my PhotoShop.com account, as I am used to it doing.  I still get the "Install Full Content" dialog, though.  I thought I would ask in this forum if anyone else has experienced these two anomalous behaviors after ungrading to Windows 7, before I attempt to go thorough the motions of actually reinstalling the full content, which should not actually be necessary.
    Thank you,
    Charles Lawrence

Why it's happening is a mystery. My guess would be that the upgrade in the OS is part of the problem, but that is just a guess. Some have reported that Win7 does the upgrade thing better than any previous OS, but others report all sorts of odd problems, when doing it this way.
If you have the DVD, then I'd try a Repair Install, to see if it picks up the Functional Content.
Otherwise, I am at a loss as to why, when you upgraded your OS, PrE 7 lost the link to that material.
    Good luck,

  • Need Detailed instructions to install new hard drive & upgrade from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise

    Hi folks,
    I have this laptop machine:
    Lenovo 3000 G530 4446-23U Laptop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3400, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Vista Home Basic
I need to install another hard drive and I also want to upgrade to Win7 Enterprise Edition while doing the rebuild.
I am very nervous about doing this as I upgraded a W530 from Win7 basic to Win7 Enterprise and ran into all kinds of drive issues.  And I thought that would be about as straightforward as you could get, but it a far cry from that.
I do not want to have to go through that again - I still don't have everything working on it.
Can someone please tell me the precise steps to take to do this upgrade and how to ensure that I obtain ALL the drivers for EVERYTHING on the laptop and how to ensure that all those drivers are correct and exactly how to install them.
If there are other issues associated with upgrading from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise, please advise of those and the solutions.
    Thanks very much.....
    Gus

    hi gmercanti,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The easiest way to upgrade Vista to Windows 7 is to run the Windows 7 Installer inside WIndows. Follow this guide for instructions. After upgrading, you will need to install the Windows 7 Drivers for Lenovo G530 4446 via http://support.lenovo.com.

Let me know if you get any errors.

  • Can't print from IE 8 after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

My laptop (HP Elitebook 8530w) uses two HP printers: Color LaserJet CP3525x (at work) and Deskjet 6940 (at home). Both printers are accessed across a local network.
I recently upgraded from Vista Enterprise to Windows 7 Enterprise.
Everything still prints fine (from Word, Adobe Reader, Windows Photo Viewer, etc.), except for IE 8! When I try to print a web page from IE, it prints only the page header, and otherwise the sheet is empty. This symptom occurs on both printers. (And of course this worked fine before the upgrade.)
Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

If anyone else is having this problem, I found the solution on another forum (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/InternetExplorer/thread/920588e5-ccc4-4e24-83d6-606...).
Specifically, the following steps solved the problem:
    1. If it doesn't already exist, create a directory named "Low" in your directory "C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\".
    2. From a command prompt, issue this command:  ICACLS C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\Low /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low

  • HP not honoring free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

When I purchased my machine in February 09 with Vista home edition I was promised on the web site and by the sales clerk that I would receive a free upgrade to Windows 7. Now I am told that only machines purchased after June 09 will qualify. I am furious and will not settle for this. Does anyone else have this issue.

Look you might have understood them wrong or you're saying something that they didn't say. They might have told you that there is going to be a free upgrade program for Windows 7 closer to when Windows 7 launches and thought you could get it when you bought it or you just want to accuse HP that they said that you would have the W7 Upgrade for free so you can get the upgrade. You should have looked for an official confirmation from Microsoft for the free upgrade from vista to W7, http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/06/25/announcing-the-windows-7-upgrade-option-program-amp-windows-7-pricing-bring-on-ga.aspx This link was released on June 25, 2009 and officially says that the free upgrade program was going to start on June 26, 2009 and this is directly form the Windows Blog. You made a mistake of listening to people and not looking for the official Microsoft Announcement. Your out of luck. Microsoft did this with xp to vista when vista came out and it was around the same months as vista to W7, so you should have also looked for past free upgrade. On February, Windows 7 date hasn't even been announced and the beta was still in progress as posted here on February 2009 http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/23/general-availability-for-the-windows-7-beta-to-end.aspx   So this goes back to the top, you should have looked at past free upgrades like xp to vista to check how many months before they will start the free upgrade program.

  • How to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7?

I recently bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 utimate for my laptop, my laptop is new and Windows Vista pre-installed. I would like to know if I upgrade Windows 7 from this "Fresh", pre-installed vista, would this Windows 7 operate as good as the clean installed Windows 7?
I am not very clear how Vista upgrades to Windows 7, do Windows 7 upgrades based on the old Vista system? Or it will install a clean and new Windows 7 then only copy all the settings and programmes from old Vista?

    Hi
Can you please tell us what Toshiba notebook you have exactly and what Vista version you have exactly (Home, Business, etc. and 32bit/64bit)?
Theoretically you can upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 but it must be same version. That means its only possible to upgrade from 32bit to 32bit and 64bit to 64bit.
If you want to upgrade you have to insert this disc and follow the screen instructions, thats all.

  • Camera not working after upgrading to vista ultimate

So I upgraded to vista ultimate and since then the camera hasn't worked. I don't have it turned off, and i went to device setting to see if it was working properly and also tried updating the driver. Everything seems to be in order, the camera just doesn't work. anyone have any ideas?

is it ultimate 64? if you dl the driver from lenovo's website it probably doesn't support 64bit, i had tons of trouble with my camera before too but eventually it kinda fixed itself. I think the device just wasn't being recognized by windows and the driver never completed installation but after a few reboots it gave me a notification saying that it was indeed finished installing and since then it worked great.

  • Catch 22 after Win7 upgrade from Vista (no way to install Boot Camp)

I've seen other posts about this but no answers, so I'll keep this
I had Vista Home Premium running in a Boot Camp partition on my black MB 2.0GHz with Snow Leopard, although I only used Fusion and not Boot Camp for Windows. (The Boot Camp partition dated back to the program's beta, which I ran on Tiger. I skipped Leopard.) I replaced the hard drive with a larger model -- thank you CCC and WinClone --, upgraded to Win7 Home Premium and thought I'd try getting Boot Camp running.
The Snow Leopard install DVD has a Boot Camp 3.0 installer that refuses to run on Win 7. (The error message that I get is, "Boot Camp requires that your computer is running Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.") And the Boot Camp 3.1 Updater is, well, an updater that wants to see Boot Camp 3.0. Doesn't seem to be any way forward!
I've seen it recommended to try a Boot Camp 2.1 installer (seems like a long shot, but has anyone tried it?) or to run the Boot Camp 3.0 installer in Vista compatibility mode (reported not to work).
It doesn't feel worth it to re-image the MacBook's Boot Camp partition to Vista using my WinClone backup, then install Boot Camp 3.0, then do the Win 7 upgrade again, and then run the Boot Camp 3.1 updater. Not when Fusion is so good. It took me several iterations of the restore-and-upgrade business with Boot Camp Assistant and WinClone to get to this point and I'm not eager to repeat it. It's not hard, just tedious. It does seem likely that that upgrade path would work, however. Practic makes perfect.
    Thoughts?

And just one more thing... I'm remembering now that when I started up the Win7 install, I got a warning that Boot Camp wouldn't work after the upgrade. I don't know which version that would have been. I went ahead with the upgrade anyway. Knowing now how that worked out, I can see that I probably zigged where I should have zagged. But I remember thinking at the time that my options were to cancel the upgrade, uninstall Boot Camp and then try the upgrade again. It didn't occur to me to upgrade to the 3.1 version of Boot Camp because I thought that was the Win7 compatible version, and I was still on Vista at that point.
Maybe all this verbiage will help someone else avoid this situation!

  • Lost User from 7 home premium after upgrading to 8.1.

I was having installer problems with windows 7 home premium. Nothing would install and the computer was just generally was getting more and more non functional. I couldn't even make a backup system image or restore from a image I had made
6 months earlier. I decided to just go ahead and install 8.1 over the 7 home premium I was having problems with. I purchased the upgrade, downloaded it and installed it. Now I have lost my user from 7 home premium. I cannot access any files that I used to
have ownership of with my "Jim" user. I seem to have a user of "[email protected]" and none of my external drives or local files will open any more. Can I insert a "Jim" user back into
8.1 and then access the unavailable files and folders. Why did 8.1 change my user name and permissions? How do I get back into my things?
My comp is a Velocity running Intel CoreI7 cpu [email protected] processor. I have 6 drives installed into it And 3 monitors on two display adapters.
    Jim

    Hello Jim,
Do you mean that you install the Windows 8.1?
If yes, you can't 'insert a "Jim" user back into 8.1 and then access the unavailable files and folders.', it is by design.
Do you still have the folder related to user 'Jim' in driver?
If yes and you can't access the folder, please refer to the following article about taking folder ownership in Windows 8.
