One such feature that is absent from the Technical Preview is Windows Media Center, but some users have restored this feature by using the product key that they purchased for use in Windows 8.1. Unfortunately, this has created some issues for these users,
which has led Microsoft to caution against doing this.

  • ITunes compatibility problems with Windows 8 Pro with Media Center

I get this message on my screen:
iTunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best results, turn off compatibility mode for iTunes before you open it.
When I open my iTunes the only music I can see is that which I downloaded from iTunes; the other music I have which I have physically loaded via CD, although on my PC and playable through Media Center is unobtainable through my iTunes home window.
Can anybody help me fathom this out?

    Hi
    Welcome To Lenovo Community
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
Usually, a computer can appear to hang (stop responding) in the situations of insufficient system resources, high CPU usage, high disk usage, deadlock in kernel mode or key system processes, or hardware problem.
You can check if this hang issue usually hangs when high load, that may points to a resource issue, enable perfmon log to located which process caused that.
Regarding to the deadloack issue, based on my experience, most of these issues caused by the outdated driver, refer to the following action plans:
    ==========
    1. upgrade all the hardware driver, firmware, BIOS.
    2. upgrade the AV software.
    3. Run disk check, if there is build-in hardware health Diagnostics Utility, also run it.

  • Upgrad from Windows 8 Pro on Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center!

    Hello,
I did upgrade from Windows 8 Pro on Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. Now the problem is when I press on any file with the right mouse button is normally open curtain menu, but when I press on any folder, right-click, the system crashes after a few seconds
    and back up.
    Best regards!

    Hi,
Go Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer and scroll through the logs for System and Applications to see if anything shows up in red as Error or Warning.
    Meanwhile, going to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers
in regedit.exe, backing up the whole ConxtentMenuHandlers folder, and then start deleting all of them one by one and continuously testing the right click.  Of course import the Context folder after you find it, test once again by right clicking
to make sure you found the problem, and delete the file that caused the problem.

  • Changing From Windows 8.1 PRO with Media Center To Just Windows 8.1 PRO

    Hi,
I am trying to convert my windows to Windows  8.1 PRO from an unactivated version of Windows 8.1 PRO with Media Center (a free trial I got when I purchased my computer that expired). I am having an issue where it says to "Activate Windows."
I purchased a Windows 8.1 PRO key and when I try to enter it into the "Activate Windows" under PC settings, it tells me that "This key can't be used to activate this version of windows." What do I do?

Check with MS activation support : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929

  • NO profiles on Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center?

    Hello,
We have one desktop and on laptop running windows 8.1.  We purchased two copies of Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro Pack and upgraded them to Windows 8.1 Pro.  After joining the domain, it seems to be working fine for one day.  Over the weekend,
the user tried to log back on, it doesn't have any profiles.  Do a Ctrl+Alt+Del, there is nothing to enter the username/password.  It just have the left arrow.  When clicking on the left arrow, it goes back to the screen that says "Press
Ctrl+Alt+Delete to sign in."  We have run chkdsk /f and look at the profile list in the registry and they look correct.  The only way to look in is using Safe Mode.  We have disable all the non-MS services and startup items and
still have the same issue with NO profile and cannot log in.
Also, in Safe Mode, we were able to leave the domain but still have the same issue.
We have system image and try to restore it, it says something about not having an admin account.  Seems very strange since there are two admin accounts.
We have other Windows 8.1 PRO (with NO media center) workstations joining the domain and do not have this issue.  This seems to happen Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center upgraded from 8.1.  We could reformat the drives and reinstall everything but
it happens twice on one computer an once on the laptop.  It will probably happen again.
Created new admin accounts, and enable the default administrator account but still cannot see anything in normal mode.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue and know why this happened?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Did you mean the sign in input box without problem under Safe Mode?
If yes, sign in with one administrator account to create a new administrator user in safe mode, and then boot into normal mode to check the result.
If it could sign in the new user without problem, follow this guide to fix your another user profile.

  • Digi@nwhere A/D Plus on Windows XP MCE (not working with Media Center)

I just recently bought a MSI Digi@nywhere A/D Plus from Newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815127008 to replace the WinTV by Hauppage that came with my HP Media Center m7640n, after installing the card and drivers, I am able to watch TV in the ArcSoft application that came on the CD, but using the Windows Media Software
I've applied every possible update/rollup for my Windows Media software, but it just says Quote
"At least one tuner that supports a standard (NTSC) TV signal must be installed to configure the TV signal. Please ensure that your tuner hardware is correctly installed, restart the computer, and try again."
What am I doing wrongly that Media Center is not finding the card? Since my software is the 2005 version, from what I've read supports ATSC, and was listed on the Newegg.com and MSI spec as supported.

Windows XP SP2 / MCE 2005 / Vista (when using MCE 2005 OS, an extra 3rd party DVD decoder must be installed) / Windows 7

Yeah, I've got the "Digi@nywhere A/D Plus BDA driver" installed on my PC
and my "device manager" shows that it's currently the 1.345.9.1009
I can view the TV in the ArcSoft TotalMedia software and everything works fine, but Media Center still fails to recognize the card. I'd really prefer Media Center because of it's enhance EPG & recording scheduling over TotalMedia
Is there something more to be done to/with Media Center? Registry edit or 3rd party add-on that I'm missing?

  • SAP Server upgrade from Windows 2003 and 2008 R2 with Oracle Database

    Hi,
We need to upgrade upgrade our Windows servers that are running our SAP systems from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2.  We are using Microsoft Clustering for HA so an inplace upgrade seems not possible.
Someone has suggested to us that we will need to export our database and reimport it to achieve this upgrade however but I cannot understand why this would be necessary (we are not changing the underlying filesystem!).
Could someone please confirm whether a database export and import is required for this OS upgrade scenario?  I have done a bit of research but nothing has jumped out and now I need an answer to this quickly.
    We are running
    - ERP 6.0 NW 7.01 (soon to be 7.02 with ABAP stack only)
    - XI(PI) Java & ABAP
    - SRM (Java & ABAP)
    - Portal (Java only)
    - PLM (Java & ABAP)
    - BW (BI 7.0) (Java and ABAP)
    Thank You
    Felicity

    Hello,
You need to go for 'Homogeneous System Copy' to achieve this, but since almost all the systems in your landscape include the Java Stack as well - so the system copy with Export/Import is to be carried out.
Even if you are not going for file system change, but it is a Windows environment and you can't put SAP up on the target Windows (windows 2008 R2) just by copying the contents and file system from source to target. You need SAPinst to create the registry and all. - On top of that you have Java stacks involved, so for java stack you can't carry out just backup/restore method to put SAP up there on target - so you need Export/import because for java stack some OS level dump is to be collected during system copy from source and it needs to be imported on target OS.
Are you clear on this one ?
Read system copy guide once and Search in OSS for the Notes to check how to upgrade from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2.
    Thanks

  • Would like to upgrade to Dragon Naturally Speaking 11 from DNS 6 (which would also entail a necessary upgrade from Windows 2000 to 7) but understand after all this expense and trouble, DNS upgrade may not be compatible with Firefox 6?

    Question
Would like to upgrade to Dragon Naturally Speaking 11 from DNS 6 (which would also entail a necessary upgrade from Windows 2000 to 7) but understand after all this expense and trouble, DNS upgrade may not be compatible with Firefox 6?
Main priority is voice activation upgrade. Ideas about how to proceed appreciated!

AFAIK, it's been over three years since a WinXP laptop or desktop PC has been sold; I specifically bought a laptop in June 2008 because it was being clearanced by that retail chain to meet Microsoft's deadline, and got it real cheap. It was tagged for the store manager to purchase, but he let me have it because I exceeded his expectations for the services I performed for his store and thought I deserved it. Anything that wasn't made for Vista-compatibility will be very iffy with Win7, IMO - so that basically rules out anything that was made before like Oct or Nov 2007.
Unless another DNS 11 user happens to see this thread and can verify whether it works in Firefox 6.0 or not, I don't what to recommend except for you doing a web search to see what other DNS / Firefox users have to say about compatibility.

  • Issues with SharePoint 2013 after upgrading from windows 2012 to 2012 r2

We have a Sharepoint with Sp1 environment on windows 2012. Recently we upgraded the windows 2012 to 2012 r2. After the upgrade sharepoint environment is completely unstable.
At first all the sites returned 401 errors. After resolving by resetting the object cache accounts the sites are back.
Then i see that none of the performance point dashboards work. I figured that claims to windows token service is defaulted to local system account. I previously configured with a domain account. I reconfigured to work with domain account.
All the dashboard pages throw error.

Thanks for the above article. Few issues are solved . One of the main issue is with Performancepoint Dashboard.
I have all the spn and required delegations setup for this url . But i did not configure at

  • Can't update Win 8 to Win 8.1 with Media Center

I recently went through a nasty divorce and all my stuff was put in storage for about a year. When I finally got everything back and set up my entertainment center I wanted to update the Win 8 Media Center pc to 8.1. I can’t do it through the store. Resource
Monitor says I’ve dl’ed more than 8 gigs over three days so far but the file is stuck at 2.9 gigs and won’t grow. I tried deleting the file to start over and can’t. wsreset fixed other programs that wouldn't dl but not 8.1. In addition, this pc was working
perfectly before it was put into storage but its wonky now. For example, I can’t update the system time even though I set proper permissions in the local security policy at change the system time. There are also a bunch of other aggravating little problems
like that and I really want to reformat and start from scratch.
In a related issue I got Media Center free when MS offered it. I took two licenses and used one as a backup for a pc that’s not connected to a TV. I updated that one several months ago and just noticed I don’t have Media Center in add features or anywhere
else I can find. Oddly enough it appears that I have the rest of the pro pack like BitLocker, only Media Center is missing.
    So I have two questions:
How can I update to Win 8.1 with Media Center starting from scratch?
How can I add Media Center to the pc I already updated?
I’m an Action Pack subscriber if that helps.
“Some days you’re the pigeon, some days you’re the statue.”

    Updated.
First, I want to know if your computer is a Windows 8 professional edition?
If you're already running Windows 8 Pro and have Windows Media Center, you won't need to reinstall it after updating to
    Windows 8.1
After upgrading to Windows 8.1  the Windows media Center will not be included if your system is not Windows 8 Pro, you can see it from the official site:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
If you want to install Windows Media Center, you need to add features to
Windows 8.1, and what  I have to point out is there is a difference between Windows 8 and Window 8 Pro when add packages to Windows Media Center:

  • HP Split X2 upgraded from Windows 8 pre-loaded to Win 8.1, now cannot run Add feature to Windows 8.1

    Hi!
i have purchased a HP Split X2 13.3" laptop in a computer show slightly more than 1 year ago.
it comes with Windows 8 pre-loaded at that time.
Later on, Microsoft offer free upgrade for all Win 8 to Win 8.1 and i did that as well.
Everything goes perfectly smooth unless recently when i try to go Control Panel run Add Feature to Windows 8.1,
it ask me for product key!!
When i looked the bottom of my Split X2 laptop, it does not have the sticker of the Windows product key. There is only 1 Windows 8 hologen sticker! Hence, i use some key finder application to detect the product key.
I enter the product key when i run Add Feature to Win 8.1 again, but the Windows prompted me key is not valid.
    Why?
The Win8.1 insalled is genuine version. I can perform regular Windows updates without issue.
Appreciate if any expert can help to resolve my issue.

    Hi
The Add Feature is to upgrade your current Windows 8/8.1 Core Edition to Windows 8/8.1 Pro or Windows 8/8.1 Media Center Edition.
It requires you to purchase particular Product key with regard to Add Features option.

  • Scanner of HP 8500 A909g does not work after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10

After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and subsequent upgrade of printer software, the scanner functionality did not work. When I tried to uninstall the printer software I got the message "HP uninstaller has stopped working". After another upgrade of printer software the scanner was still not working. How can I get around this problem? Update:
I followed the instructions for a similar problem with Windows 8 on http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Scan-doesn-t-work-on-Solution-Center-after-migrating-to-Win/td-p/2228367.After this, the scanning seems to work. Not sure whether it is possible to uninstall, though (don't want to try since it is working).

I had the same problem with my Officejet Pro 8600 All-in-One scanner, sfter upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. After uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer driver, the problem is solved. You can look up the model of your printer on HP's support site and download it from there. Apparently, not all printers are compatible with Windows 10. In that case, they recommend you buy a new printer. ;-)

  • Customer Service would not accept XP Laptop under "Upgrade from Windows XP" promotion

I was told by customer service at my local store (Store 199) that my old XP laptop was not eligible to trade in under the "Upgrade from Windows XP" promotion because the battery was no good.  The laptop powered on and successfully booted up.  According to the fine print for this promotion, "Device must power on to be considered working."  I could not find any wording that the battery had to be good and the associate would not or could not point me to this specific exclusion either.
I realize the laptop is old and would only qualify for the $25 gift card and $75 coupon.  Is there anything that can be done to get this laptop traded in under this promotion?

    Greetings siggy228,
Expecting to receive the promotion without any issues would be exciting, but that much more disappointing if you found out otherwise upon a visit to the store. While the promotion details state a few specific situations that would be common for a unit to not qualify, it does state that not all products are eligible for the promotion. I am sorry for any disappointment that this promotion may have caused you.
That being said, it would make sense that your laptop would have to power on without being plugged in for it to be considered working as CrimsonRain suggested. Can you elaborate on what is wrong with your battery that it would cause your laptop to not be eligible? Does it need the AC adapter to power on?
Any additional information you may be able to share would be greatly helpful in my research of your issue!
