Upgrading from XP to Vista (Adobe Premiere CS3)

I've been running my Adobe CS3 products on Windows XP, and I'm wanting to upgrade to 64 bit. I want to either upgrade to Windows XP 64, or Windows Vista; and I want to hear if anybody has an opinion on this upgrade: problems with drivers, better operation?

I have to make a reactionary response here. But I am a computer programmer, I have several degrees in Computer Science. I graduated not only top in my class but top in my school (granted it was a small school.) But!
I seriously do not think Vista is the future. Rome certainly looked the future for a long time, same as Microsoft. Microsoft is certainly falling though. I am not certain what the future for over all computing is. I think it will be something link Linux (if not Linux). Microsoft has become giant, unwieldy, and bloated. (Just like it's software.) Beyond that though, we who edit on Microsoft products have already missed the boat! Macintosh is the present! So sorry, but I have to fundamentally disagree with that.
Though, I sincerely thank you for your opinion on its operation with Premiere. That's what I was looking for user's opinions.

  • Capture(or import) from Sony DCR-SR75E to Adobe Premiere CS3

    Hello,
I have an Adobe Premiere CS3 installed in my mac.
I have used it with my Sony Fx-1 perfectly.
I purchased an new sony dcr-sr75e handycam and have problem capturing or importing.
When I connect the camera to the computer, I don't open capture, and when I try to import the mpg files, I only get the video of the files and I don't get the audio, and the video is imported very low quality. Can you please help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Levent

Copy the files from the camera to your PC then import them into Pro. Pro only captures through firewire.
If the audio contains ac3 copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from Encore in Program Files and paste this in the root of Pro CS3.
Reimport all files or start a new project.

  • Adobe Premiere CS3 will not open!

Adobe premiere CS3 will not open.  When I click on the Adobe icon on my desktop, I get this message:  This application has failed to start because prm.dll was not found.  I've tried several things such as:  uninstalling the program then reinstalliing it.  I tried to open Adobe by clicking on one of my projects by opening MY Computer from start on the taskbar, then click on c drive, etc. but it will not open.  Before I started getting the error message stated above, when I clicked on the icon, the program would load to the point of showing the top portion of the page (file, edit, etc.) then stop.  It would never fully load.  HELP!!!!!   I'm in the middle of trying to meet several deadlines.

First, search your system for every instance of prm.dll. See if you have one (could be corrupt, but a Repair Install should have repaired it) in your PrPro CS3 folder hierarchy. Do you have any more? How do the dates and sizes compare to the one, if there is one, in PrPro? Here is a LINK to a .dll site. I do not know this site, so cannot even comment on their .dll's. I'd do the first suggestion, well - first.
Also, I do not know this .dll. It could be a VST from an Audio editing program, or similar. Some of these have been known to bring PrPro to its knees, at launch. Might be worthwhile to check into it a bit more.
Also, take a look at Event Viewer. This ARTICLE will give you some tips on what to look for. Could be more happening, than the error message might lead one to believe.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Adobe Premiere CS3 Keeps Shortening My Video Duration?!!?!?!?!!??!

Okay, so I'm doing a school project and adobe premiere cs3 isn't letting me show my whole videos. I have about 8 Videos that is about 6 to 10 seconds long. There is one video that is 8 seconds long but it cut it short to 6.07 seconds long. There's another video which the audio is completely off and another Video that was doing perfectly fine but then soon after, it was limited to like 7 seconds from 10 seconds. This isn't cool lol. Do I need to do something to my videos to make it not do this? My project is due on this Friday :C

    (A) Make sure your Work Area Bar or your (B) In /Out Points cover what you want to export..then check which of those options to use in the Media encoder.

  • Can I upgrade from CS2 to CS4 and skip CS3?

Can I upgrade from CS2 to CS4 and skip CS3? It would save me time.

    Colin,
    >But I did exactly what everyone on here said they did, went onto adobe.com to do our research, saw that the upgrade works from CS2-CS4
Adobe shows there are multiple versions of the suites on their site and clearly points the way for purchasing at the Adobe Store. Just for the heck of it, I also went to MacMall.com and MacConnection.com, two well-known online resellers. I checked their Adobe CS4 upgrades, and they clearly indicate which older versions they are meant to go with. Not quite so clear from MacZone.com and a few other reseller sites I visited.
    >I am an IT person for a printing company, and as such I spent hours upon hours preparing for this transition.
It took me just a few minutes to find the correct version I needed.
    >no one can tell the difference, and most vendors don't know it exists. We could help you, but you didn't buy it from us."
Maybe the reseller you bought from is just sloppy and didn't mark the SKUs properly. But how is this Adobe's fault -- particularly when other vendors can and DO get it right?
Also as both Mac and Win upgrades are pretty much determined and marketed the same way, what does this sloppiness have to do with Mac market share?
But that said, there is enough good information on the Adobe site that should trigger some questions if you as the IT guy have any doubts and are responsible for buying for your company. At the least, doesn't it make sense to call Adobe and ask which SKUs you should buy? It could've saved hours of research time.
If you truly did your research and purchasing carefully and were still fooled, I suggest you start with a complaint to the reseller who sold you the goods.

  • Upgrading from XP to Vista with no recovery drive.

    Hello,
I plan to upgrade from XP to Vista. I have the whole 160 GB disk allocated to XP as a C drive. I have no problems in formatting it while changing to Vista.
The problem is that Lenovo gave no Vista DVD when I bought the laptop. Everything was given in the recovery partition which I formatted when I downgraded to XP. So how should I change back to Vista ?
Also I was browsing through the Lenovo Drivers website becoz I need Vista drivers once I install Vista onto the laptop. There are different versions of drivers available for my laptop's type-model, so how should I know that which one works best or which one was given in the factory installation from lenovo?

The simplest answer is to purchase the recovery cd if you were shipped with vista. The tech center can help with your purchase but they can order only what was originally shipped on the laptop. The cost is $45.00 plus s&h and local taxes.

  • Problems upgrading from Photoshop CS or CS2 to CS3

I have a copy of Photoshop CS3 Extended and it is the upgrade version. I have both CS and CS2 but they don't seem to work to upgrade from. Is this copy of CS3 worthless?

try using the cs2 serial number here, Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3 when prompted for the qualifying product's serial number.
if that fails, you should be able to install ps cs2 from that link and then install your cs3 upgrade.

  • Adobe premiere cs3 and youtube

    Hi Everyone,
Please give me some input on how I can use adobe premiere cs3 to create videos for youtube.... specifically... the videos that I will be working on will contain all of the same basic elements...
    1. Still Images and Clip art only... no moving video... I want help with uploading the stills/clip art and also with timing who long each still with stay up individually....
    2. Speech bubbles (the kind used in comic strips) timed to pop in above above the heads of those people or characters in the stills and clip art... I want help with timing when the bubbles come in and with creating them and saving them so that in future videos i won't have to create them again...
    3. Voice over parts done by me to read the parts in the bubbles timed for comic effect... I want help with steps on how to do this...
    4. Music added throughout the video just below my voice overs... same as above...
All of my videos will contain these elements... and I want to find an efficient way to set up adobe premiere the first time so that every time I go in to do my youtube videos in the future it will be just a matter of uploading the stills setting a time duration each still and the speach bubbles... reading the voice over, adding the music and then uploading it to youtube... I am new to the software and would appreciate any steps that could be give to help me accomplish these four goals...
    Thanks,
    John

the music you liked was made by chris duncan (who comes to forums but has been busy so hasnt been around lately ).. called " when goblins frolick " ...perfect title for the music.
probably should move this discussion to the lounge area cause it sorta has to do with learning some aspects of programs in general and certain techniques etc.. not really about cs3 and youtube per se...
but anyway..moderators will do that if they want to...
it is a little difficult at first to use photoshop to do what you want, and to use masks in cs3 or just fade graphics in and out and make them appear when wanted..move around etc...and also text issues ( sizes that show up OK on screen are usually pretty large ( pt ). But you'll find when you get past the initial learning part it will open up all sorts of very cool opportunity.. and freedom to do what you imagine...
AE is also used for animation stuff but I dont use AE myself...
if you search for animation tutorials using text baloons you may find some good one that walks you through the process...and maybe even you can find samples of things to download and experiment with on your computer.
my advice is to go ahead and learn what you can and do your own graphics etc .. cause that will open up all kinds of cool things for you to do .. not only in animation things but other things too ...
    good luck !
local library might have a good book on animation stuff using adobe products ( versions you have).. can usually search local libraries with computer at home...

  • Were can I download a trial for adobe premiere cs3?

I've looked all over the internet for a trial of adobe premiere cs3, but the only thing I can find is a bunch of links leading to the adobe website which only has adobe premiere cs5 avail able, but I can download that because my computer is only 32 bit. Does anyone know a secure website were I can get it downloaded?

Since I have never used a trial I can't help with this one
I did see mention of a company with an archive link... could have been prodesign, but not 100% sure
    A forum search for
    cs4 trial
    or
    cs4 trial prodesign
might give some results... but that is cs4, not cs3... so going 2 versions back may not have any results

  • Capturing HDV using Adobe Premiere CS3 - more than 20 minutes of video

    Hello,
I'm facing a weird situation with Adobe premiere CS3, I use a canon XH-A1 video camera to capture video & recently started using adobe premiere for editing, the issue is if I start to capture HD video for more than 20 minutes, adobe is not able to capture the video (shows a red screen), but it works fine, if I capture upto 20 minutes of video.
I have in the past had to break down a single tape into 3 halves, to successfully capture the video, this is NOT the ideal way, as I have to babysit the video capture, to limit the capture to 20 minutes & restart it.
Has anyone faced this error? Any advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Kalyan.

Could the reason be that you are capturing to an FAT32 format hard drive and it is only allowing you a limited maximum file size? Not sure but I think it is 4GB which would equate to 1/3 of a DV 13GB hour ...or about 20 minutes.
If that is correct, and you should be able to tell because the capture window will display the file size limit as space available during capture, you could do one of two things:
    * reformat the drive as NTFS which removes the file size limitation (I have just done this on an external drive for exactly the same reason), but do look up online instructions for this and do it carefully.
    * if the material is not long continuous shots of over 20 minutes, switch on Scene Detect during capture; it's wise to cut material up into smaller chunks in any case as huge files become very unwieldy and handling them could slow your machine right down.

  • Adobe Premiere CS3- CS6

I buy an update version of Adobe Premiere CS3->CS6. Can i install on a PC with Adobe Creative Suite CS3 ? Can i install this version on a PC without CS3 ? Thanks.

Yes you can. You only need the serial number of CS3 during the installation process.

I don't have any experience about that. But as fas as I have heard you can install both versions.

  • Adobe Premiere CS3 not activating

Have a copy of Adobe Premiere CS3 which I bought years ago. Had it running on an old laptop but want to install it on a more recent one and for some reason it refuses to activate. My internet connection is fine so no idea why it is not activating.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I enter my serial number in the section reading 'I have entered my serial number and want to activate now.' Then I click next and choose to activate now using the internet. I get a green loading bar that runs for a few minutes and then just get a message saying: Activation - no connection.
Simple as that; just several options for other types of activation (internet is only suitable one for me) as well as a note about HTTPS not working behind some firewalls and looking into proxy settings. I don't believe this to be the problem however.
My internet is working fine but the product won't activate for some reason...

  • Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.

Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.
When I try to open the file I get the following error message:
    "cannot open that file
the file uses an unsupported file compression format"
I really need urgent help with this so if you know a soloution, please post it!

I don't do mjpeg so you will have to search the forum for advice
But... having a playback codec installed does not ALWAYS mean the codec will work for Premiere editing
After you search the forum and find the (I think free) codec vendors, you will need to install fresh so Premiere will "see" the codec for editing
    Or, Google
    convert mjpeg avi
To convert to DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound so the files will "natively" edit in Premiere
My GUESS (you didn't say) is the d90 is a STILL camera that has a video function, not a true camcorder
If you plan to do much video work, you need a tape-based DV camcorder so you use Firewire to do a digital transfer as a "real" AVI that Premiere may edit without conversion or extra software
For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

  • Major issues after upgrading from XP to Vista on Qosmio F20

I have recently upgraded from XP to Vista on my Qosmio F20 and have issues. It appears I have lost the ability to change screen resolutions, adjust the volume , brightness etc. Basically I have lost the functions of the laptop. I have also tried updating the BIOS but get the following error message "BiOS updated is not supported OS - Unsupported OS or service pack installed.
This is also making the machine very slow.

Do you have some questions now, or you wrote just a report about your Vista experience on Qosmio F20?
The fact is that Toshiba does not support Vista on this notebook model and because of that you will never have full operating Vista (including Toshiba tools and utilities). For supported notebooks Toshiba has offered special Vista supporting BIOS but for your notebook such BIOS update does not exist.
    Sorry! :(
