Upgrading from XP to Vista with no recovery drive.

Hello,
I plan to upgrade from XP to Vista. I have the whole 160 GB disk allocated to XP as a C drive. I have no problems in formatting it while changing to Vista.
The problem is that Lenovo gave no Vista DVD when I bought the laptop. Everything was given in the recovery partition which I formatted when I downgraded to XP. So how should I change back to Vista ?
Also I was browsing through the Lenovo Drivers website becoz I need Vista drivers once I install Vista onto the laptop. There are different versions of drivers available for my laptop's type-model, so how should I know that which one works best or which one was given in the factory installation from lenovo?

The simplest answer is to purchase the recovery cd if you were shipped with vista. The tech center can help with your purchase but they can order only what was originally shipped on the laptop. The cost is $45.00 plus s&h and local taxes.

  • Major issues after upgrading from XP to Vista on Qosmio F20

I have recently upgraded from XP to Vista on my Qosmio F20 and have issues. It appears I have lost the ability to change screen resolutions, adjust the volume , brightness etc. Basically I have lost the functions of the laptop. I have also tried updating the BIOS but get the following error message "BiOS updated is not supported OS - Unsupported OS or service pack installed.
This is also making the machine very slow.

Do you have some questions now, or you wrote just a report about your Vista experience on Qosmio F20?
The fact is that Toshiba does not support Vista on this notebook model and because of that you will never have full operating Vista (including Toshiba tools and utilities). For supported notebooks Toshiba has offered special Vista supporting BIOS but for your notebook such BIOS update does not exist.
    Sorry! :(

  • D20 (4158) Win7 upgrade from pre-loaded Vista

I have a D20 preloaded with Vista Business and want to upgrade to Win7.  I noticed that the "ThinkStation Hardware Maintenance Manual ThinkStationHardware Maintenance Manual" (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/53y4348.pdf) lists Windows 7 x64 recovery discs as FRUs, presumably orderable from Lenovo.  Are these suitable for what I am intending to do (I would be doing a reformat-and-reinstall) or do I have to go with a boxed version purchased at a retailer?  The advantage of going with the recovery disc would be to get all appropriate drivers and branded help files.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

the recovery media is only available to machines shipped with windows 7. If you want windows 7, you would have to get the retail pack from major computer stores.
You can get all the appropriate drivers by installing the Thinkvantage System Update software after you install the retail pack of windows 7.

  • UpGrading from XP to Vista

    Hi there.
Im thinking of upgrading my T61 from XP to vista.
I know I can just format my c: drive then install Vista just like desktops.
However, i m aware of that there is a hidden drive with operating system image and other important staff in it. If i format my disk, i will probaly lose the data in the hidden drive. That's cruel and not what i want.
    The question is this:
Is there anyway to upgrade both my OS and the hidden drive to support Vista together ?
For example, i want to be able to use the blue ThinkVantage buttun to recovery my system with Vista, just like what i can do with recoverying my XP now.
Also, I have my own Vista Business, is it possible to install my own Vista without paying for a new one ??
    A lot thanks...

    Go to Solution.

First, make the XP recovery discs just in case you ever need to go back.
Second, The easieast way to have a Vista recovery partition is to use the fectory Recovery discs. I think you can do your own Vista install, Install Rescue and Recovery along with the other drivers found here. Then Rescue and Recovery will make a recovery image for you.
If your Thinkpad has a Seagate Hard Drive you can use Disk Wizard to make your own recovery discs. With the full version of Acronis you can make an "Acronis Secure Zone" which is a hidden partition you access with F11 at startup. It allows you to restore the computer from there.

  • Can you install Windows 7, then revert to a backup image of Vista with Rescue & Recovery?

I have a copy of 7 I want to put on my T61.  I've partitioned the OS into one partion, and the files into another.
I've made backup copies of the OS with Rescue & Recovery already, so can I install Windows 7 over Vista, then if I find I don't want to stick with it, recover back to Vista?

When you get to BOOTCAMP, that has to be changed from FAT to NTFS but you have to click Advanced Option.... button in order to change to NTFS.
The GPT error message can happen if you have more than one internal hard drive (say SSD and TB model).
If you didn't use Assistant, and some have managed, undo the partition.
Paragon CampTune $19 can also assist with installing Windows, creating the partition - but may not work with Lion, though you aren't there yet.

  • Satellite L300 Windows 7 back to Vista with Toshiba Recovery CDs

    Hello all,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Series L300 (2008 model) laptop which originally had Vista but I installed Windows 7 Professional on it. I now wish to return back to Vista.
I noted that the 'Windows.old' folder created on the C:/ drive seems to be missing a lot of files and could have been altered since the date it was created. I think it would be too risky to use it to recover back to Vista.
So my question is can I use my original set of Toshiba Recovery DVDs to get back to Vista? I want to do a full factory reset to recover my system to when it was originally purchased with Vista.
If the Recovery DVDs is not an option and the only was is by using the Windows.old folder, if it is lacking important files could it leave my system corrupted? I am sure there is a way to get back to Vista by factory restore somehow.
    Comments and feedback urgently required!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello sauza
Wait a moment. You mix two different things. If you want to install original recovery image it can be done on two ways:
    # Using created recovery discs DVDs
    # Install image using HDD recovery method (recovery image saved on HDD)
    >Ok but how do I use the Toshiba recovery disks to reset my computer back to Vista factory settings?
This question is related to method 1.
    >I press F8 at start-up---> select Repair computer---> select my language----> Then it gives me Windows 7 Options to only Restore by Disk Image which I created at a earlier date.
This description is related to method 2 and has nothing with installation with Toshiba recovery disks as you wrote in your last posting.
Method 2 can be used if notebook has factory settings. After own OS installation recovery image is not available anymore and recovery image can be installed with recovery discs only.
I hope you understand now how it works.
If you have more questions please let me know.

  • R12.1 upgrade from 11.5.10CU2 with 11g

    Hi hsawwan,
I have some doubts about R12.1 upgrade process.
    1. If i have 11.5.10.2 with 9.2.0.8 as database then can i upgrade to R12.1 using RapidWiz and during database upgrade screen, directly upgrade from 9.2.0.8 to 11.1.0.6 or 11.1.0.7 database?
    2. If i have 11.5.10.2 with 11.1.0.7 as database then can i upgrade to R12.1 using RapidWiz or i have to do patchinf for it. Means to say that can i use RapidWiz for R12.1 upgrade from 11.5.10.2 with 11.1.0.7?
    3. What will be the best practice to reduce downtimwe for R12.1 upgrade ?
    Regards,
    Manas Prakash Gupta

    Hi hsawwan,
As pre-upgrade patching for 11.5.10.2 to R12.1 upgrade, i applied a patch 4582937 which is for PRE CONVERGENCE MIGRATION PATCH. There are some steps which are need to be performed after applying this patch. Below are the steps.
    1) Perform the data mapping for org and warehouse migration through the UI available in OPM System Administration.
    2) Run $GMA_TOP/patch/115/sql/GMAORGMG.sql as APPS user.
    3) Review any errors generated in the Org Migration for the context "ORGANIZATION" and rerun GMAORGMG.sql after fixing the errors.
    4) Run $GMA_TOP/patch/115/sql/GMAITSTP.sql as APPS user.
    5) Review any errors generated in the Org Migration for the context "PRE_ITEM_MIG_SETUP" and rerun GMAITSTP.sql after fixing the errors.
    6) Run $GMI_TOP/patch/115/sql/gmiitmin.sql as APPS user 7) Review any errors generated in the Org Migration for the context "ITEMS" and rerun gmiitmin.sql after fixing the errors.
I am not able to understand the first point (Perform the data mapping for org and warehouse migration through the UI available in OPM System Administration).
I logged into application and under OPM System Administration i didn't find anything related to mapping. Can you just tell me how to perform these steps (Specially the first one because in others we need to run scripts only).
    Thanx,
    Manas Prakash

  • Tip for upgrading from MBP to iMac with Leopard & Parallels Boot Camp

Here are some pointers based on my recent experience upgrading from a MacBook Pro to an iMac, under Leopard and with Parallels using a Boot Camp partition for Windows.
First, you do not need to create a Windows partition on your new computer. You will use Boot Camp Assistant to do that - it can dynamically resize your existing Mac OS X partition without destroying it. (I initially used Disk Utility to create a Windows partition but it wasn't recognised properly by Parallels and also the Mac wouldn't boot from it).
A great way to simplify getting your old installation across is to make a Time Machine backup onto an external drive. Yes, you could also use start up your old Mac in Target mode (hold down T key when you start it), then start the new Mac and copy your settings over. But in my case, the new iMac (a refurb) came with Tiger installed on it while my old Mac had already been upgraded to Leopard.
I started the new Mac using a Leopard install CD (holding down the C key while starting). Then I chose to restore from a Time Machine backup instead of installing from CD, and soon had a functioning Leopard installation on the new Mac. Well, almost.
Next I used Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition on the new drive. The old Mac's partition was only 10 GB in size, but I made the new one 31.9 GB in size (so I could stay under the Windows limit of 32 GB for FAT partitions). I then quit without installing Windows.
On the old Mac, I used an external drive formatted as FAT and used Disk Utility to 'restore' my Windows partition to the external drive. Next I plugged that drive into the new Mac, and restored the external Windows partition to the new Mac's Windows partition. So far, so good. However, Parallels would not start this installation of Windows, and the new Mac would not boot into it (holding down the Option key at start-up did not show me a Windows drive).
I tried doing a repair of the Windows installation using a Windows install disk but that did not work. What did work was the following: I booted from the Window install CD, then started a new installation. I asked Windows to format the Windows partition on the new Mac, then powered off the new Mac as soon as Windows started copying files. Next, I rebooted the new Mac into Mac OS X, started Disk Utility, and again did a restore of the Windows partition on the external drive to the Windows partition on the new Mac.
The final step was to reboot the new Mac into Windows directly so that I could load drivers from the Leopard install CD. [I haven't done that yet, so I'm not sure it's necessary].
    Hope this helps!

Sounds solid to me. If the Glyph was connected on a firewire port that is. This would free up the bandwith that way but actually it is hardly an issue with the Duet considering the limited inputs. But using the Glyph as a backup for your projects is good wise idea anyway.

  • After upgrading from XP to Vista Ipod crashes my computer

I uninstalled itunes and reinstalled according to Apple's Vista upgrade instructions. I was unable to check enable iPod as a hard drive and when I connected my 60 GB Video iPod my computer fatally crashed on 3 separate occasions. Looking for any help I can get.

Seeing as you have already read the articles from Apple about Vista, there is nothing I can say except to wait for the next version of iTunes, which will fully support Vista.

  • Can't install XCelsius Engade 2008 (upgrade from Pro 4.5) with Office XP

    Dear Support,
I have purchased XCelsius Engade 2008, upgrade from Pro 4.5.
Our corporate standard is still MS Office XP on Windows XP and it won't be updated in a near future.
I can not install the product since it tells me that Office suit should be "pre-installed" first. And it is actually installed already.
I have tested the trial version before - and it was fine. It is written on the CD box that system requirements includes Office XP but it does not work. Please help ASAP!!!
    And just for the information:
Trial version build no: BuildVersion=12.1.0.247 (seems to work)
Version on CD which I have purchased: BuildVersion=12.0.0.121 (refuses to install)
    Thanks and regards,
    Andrey

    Hi Andrey,
you don't need to uninstall Xcelsius 4.5 - it's a separate product and you can install it back. I have both Xcelsius 4.5 and Xcelsius 2008 on the same machine. I am not sure why it does not recognize the Office on your machine, may be you need to upgrade your Office to a later version, I hope somebody else will have more information. May be this link will be helpful

I upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10 and most of my programs do not display correctly, I think I needwindows 10  driver for display.

Hi sorokateam, welcome to the forums,
you can find drivers for the L440 on the following support site.  I would suggest installing the chipset driver before the graphics driver if you haven't already installed it.

  • How do i transfer program from iMac to macbook with no disk drive

Hi I have a imac with cs5. I now have a macbook pro with no disk drive. How do i download the older cs5 onto my new macbook pro? Thanks

You are allowed to have up to two activated installations of each version license you own, so unless you have already installed it to another system, you should be fine.  If not, phone customer support.  I've never heard of them refusing to reset a person's activations.

  • Yosemite upgrade from Mavericks left me with a white screen.

i dont think the install completed And now my computer won't start up. It shows the apple icon and a progress bar and then just does nothing. I've turned it off and on a few time with the same result.

Try resetting the SMC. If that does not work, restore OS X from the recovery disk.

The current major software we have on the Solaris 8 system are:

yes I know it can be quite complicated and complex, but Sun provided us with a detailed documentation, at least in our case Solaris 9 to 10 it was very helpful.
