Upgrading from XP to W7 - will I loose my LightR/M9 licence?

I plan to upgrade from XP to Win 7. In doing so I expect that I have to reinstall all software including Lightroom 2.6RC for my Leica M9. My questions;
- how do I transfer all historical data etc related to my images in Lightroom? I will of course take care of my DNG files - but will the Lightroom back-up take of everything else?
- can I reinstall Lightroom "within" my current license on the new platform without problems?
Thanks
/Anders

Your license is valid on any platform..windows, mac whatever version.
Ensure you have everything backed up to disks that do not contain the OS before you start the new instillation.
Make sure you copy your Lightroom catalog folder and all your image files in the same folder structure as they presently are in order to not have to relocate once upgraded. Install LR on your new system (use a downloaded copy, do not install from disk..you want the latest version, enter your license code and open the catalog..you should be good to go.

Try rebooting it and connect. Make sure you're connected directly to a USB port using the Apple USB cable.

  • Hello when i upgrade from 4 to 4S will my existing text messages migrate over?

HI when i upgrade from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S will my existing text messages migrate.....

If you back up your iphone 4, and when you get the iphone 4S, you would have to restore from back up and you will have all your existing text messages. If you set your iphone 4S as a "New Phone" then it will start from fresh and no existing text message will be in there

  • If I upgrade from Leopard to Yosemity will I still be able to use AppleWorks as an application?

I want to be able to read and write files written in AppleWorks when I upgrade from Leopard to Yosemity on my MacBook. Is this possible? I know that AppleWorks is a long-outdated application, but I have been using AppleWorks since it evolved from ClairisWorks, because of its convenience and simplicity in use compared with more recent software.

If you have upgraded to Yosemite and have AppleWorks documents you cannot open, then you should be able to install Snow Leopard on an external hard disk and start from that (provided that the Mac did not come with anything higher than Snow Leopard originally installed); and success has been reported in running Snow Leopard Server under emulation in Parallels - the method is described here: Snow Leopard Server is (as far as I know) still available in the Apple Store (by telephone) at a reduced price and is preferable to using ordinary Snow Leopard which is quite tricky. I haven't tried this myself: use at your own discretion. You can then run AppleWorks within the emulation.
Note that if you want to upgrade to Yosemite your Mac must obviously have an Intel processor, (an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon) and from Leopard you will have to start by purchasing Snow Leopard from the Online Apple Store in order to be able to access the Mac App Store in Applications. Yosemite is supported by the following Macs:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

Opened iphoto today and it says I have to upgrade to new version.  Will I lose the photos in my current library?

Upgrading does not "lose" photos - but of course you must always have a backup prior to updating or upgrading
what version of iPhoto do you have? What and when was the most recent upgrade to iPhoto?
What is the exact message you are getting?

  • If you buy an app with one account, while already having it purchased from a different ID, will you loose existing data?

My iAssociate 2 app was originally bought with a different ID.  I can't buy in-app purchases because I have a different apple ID. If I buy the app from my account, without deleting the app, will I it redownload itself and cause me to loose my data? I'd really like to buy new levels, but I can't because it was originally bought with my mom's account. I'd like to get it for my own, but I don't want to loose my progress.

    Trial and error.
I wish I had a better answer for you, but that pretty much encapsulates it. There is some, but not much, good wisdom out there, but it takes a significant amount of experience to be able to recognize it. The software development community if currently afflicted with a case of copy-and-paste-itis. And the prognosis is poor.
The solution is to be brutal to yourself and others. Focus on what you need and ignore everything else. Remember that other people have their own needs and methods and they might not be applicable to you. Apple, for example, can hire thousands of programmers, set them to coding for six months, pick the best results, and have the end-users spend their own time and monety to test it. If you don't have Apple's resources and power, think twice about adopting Apple's approach. And I am talking from a macro to a micro perspective. Apple's sample and boilerplate code is just junk. Don't assume you can't do better. You can.
Unfortunately, all this takes time and practice. You can read popular books, but never assume that anyone knows more than you do. Maybe they do and maybe they don't. It takes time to figure that out. Just do your best, ignore the naysayers, and doubt other people even more than you doubt yourself.

  • Upgrade from CS2 to CS5 will not connect to Elements 5.0 "catalogue" files.

Until now, I have been seamlessly using CS2 as my Photoshop Editor which was accessed through the Photoshop Elements 5.0 Catalogue function.
Within the Elements catalogues, raw or processed photos were acquired to Photoshop CS2 by left clicking the drop down menu "Edit" > and then left clicking to select, "Edit with Photoshop".
This no longer happens for the upgrade CS5.  How do I restore (re-appoint) CS5 as my external editor, still from within the drop down Edit menu in Elements 5.0?  Note: As the CS5 upgrade "glopped on" to the previous CS2 version, I cannot return to CS2 even if I wanted to -- (I don't).
It must be something obvious that completely eludes me.

    Hi Noel,
Went through the sequence in Elements as you suggested -- and was informed by the folllowing box:
"You do not need to choose Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (dropped the suffixes in each case) as the other editor.Photoshop elements already supports using these editors from the Edit menu and Edit toolbar button."
I tried going through Bridge, again as you suggested:  Bridge Label Preferences > File Type Associations .  However, nothing there to be found in the very extensive list.
I think the problem is access through elements.
It may be that I'll need to buy an Elements 9.0 upgrade to continue using the Elements catalog.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

  • Will an upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard make me loose programs?

I have an old 2007 Macbook pro and I need to upgrade from Tiger OS 10.4.11 to either leopard of Snow leopard because my charger broke and the new charger does not work probably in the older laptops unless you firmare update (which I cannot do as my OS is less than 10.5)
My question is: Will upgrading wipe all the files and programs from my laptop? I have programs that I no longer have the discs, to install them with, for so if they get wiped I will be unable to get them back and they are programs I need on a daily basis. I was just wondering what upgrading from tiger to leopard will actually involve? Will I loose all files/programs so it would be like starting from scratch with a new computer? Or would it not change these things?

Buy an external drive (or two).
Clone your system before you begin.
Repair the drive while at it, Apple First Aid and another 3rd party program.
Make sure you can boot from your backup clone.
Apple Restore is part of Disk Utilty or there is SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Me, I would take the above precautions. Then I would format your drive with SL DVD, and perform and clean install. Do all the updates. Then use Setup or Migration Assistant.
Look for threads, there seems to be 4-5 a week at least on Migrating, going from 10.4 or from PPC to 10.6.
That is the safest. In theory, and YMMV, you could try upgrade in place, but not without backups, and repairing your drive with SL DVD first.

The Apple online printing services only support iPhoto 8 (09) or later.  If you upgrade to iPhoto to  9.5.1 the card will still be there and you'll be able to order the card.  There is a small chance that the theme you've choses is no longer available.  What these was it?
You will have to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1  on your library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1. The upgrader will be installed in your Applications/Utilities folder.
Note:  Since you're upgrading from iPhoto 7 you will have to purchase iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS4 Extended

I have just purchased an upgrade from Photoshop CS3 Standard to Photoshop CS4 Extended, and have problems activating. In the dropdown it only offers an upgrade from CS3 Extended and will not accept a serial number from CS3. I've spent about 2 FRUSTRATING hours on the phone today and all they can offer is that I give them the challenge code and they activate this installation, and each time I have to re install I would have to do the same. Needless to say I wasn't impressed at all, and have got an RMA number. Has anyone else suffered from this problem?
