Upgrading Graphics for Solaris 8 on Dell laptop

I installed solaris 8 for Intel on a Dell Laptop. I could only get the 16 color option working.
What drivers or patches can I use and where can I get them????

Hi,
I don't know what video card you have, but I just downloaded this porting kit for solaris8 intel. It work perfectly on my desktop Dell 4100. I think it will also work for the dell laptop. The porting kit is NOT XFree86; it only make use of the xfree86 drivers for solaris.

Good luck

I recently tried to upgrade my itunes on my dell laptop with 64 bit windows 7. It stopped working so I deleted all files and tried to reinstall and haven't been able to since. I've tried numerous things i've read in forums and nothing seems to work. The installation will not move past the "publishing product information" point. After being stuck there for a while this error message appears:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b",process or Architecture="x86"', Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD
I hope someone is able to help me with this.

Did you already try what bnoir suggested in this post about error 0x800736FD:
These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 800736FD, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?
This thread might help as well, suggestion provided by bnoir:
In general, these ones tend to be caused by underlying problems on the PC that can prevent Windows Updates from installing. So my main strategy with them is to try to fix the Windows Update issues. If we can get Windows Updates flowing again, that generally clears up the iTunes install errors +en passant.+
Head into your Windows Update, and check for any new updates. Do any fail? If so, open your Update History and doubleclick on the failure entries to bring up a small box with alphanumeric error message codes. Are you getting 8000FFFFs? (They often seem to be associated with an iTunes-install 0x800736FD.)
If you're getting 8000FFFFs, try the following Microsoft document:
    [Windows Update Error 8000FFFF|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-Error- 8000FFFF]
Head back to Windows Update, and stock up on any updates you're behind on. Once you're completely up to date in that regard, try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Upgrade hard drive out my Dell laptop possible?

    Hello,
I have a Seagate 160Gig SATA drive that came from my Dell XPS 1530 laptop. I'd like to put it in my MacMini and upgrade it from the installed 80gig drive. Will this drive work in my Mini?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

SATA 2.5-inch notebook hard drives that are 9.5 mm thick or thinner, are generally going to fit OK.
You will need to startup from the install disc that shipped with your Mini and repartition and reformat the HD, however.
For an Intel Mini, use the GUID partition scheme. For a PPC G4 Mini, use the Apple Partition Map scheme.

  • Upgrade CPU for an older 635 Laptop

Hi, I have had an HP635 for a couple of years now, It basically serves me well except I do enjoy a little bit of gaming from time to time and its starting to show its age now.
I cant help but notice he Mobile processors list in the optional parts http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13969_div/13969_div.PDF
My question is, all warranty now expired, can I litereally pick on of these off eBay, retrofit it myself and have it work immediatly? Also, I have the e-350 processor now, and that has the 6310 Radion on board, but im not acutally sure if thats built into the chip, or is it built into the motherboard of the laptop?
So sum it up, can I exactly just pop a new CPU in and it will work, and furthermore will that affect the Graphics card ?
Sorry if it sounds like a newbie question, I just cant find a answer Im happy with online.
    Dev

Well it is complex but the e-350 is called an APU, not a CPU or GPU and it means the processing and video are on the same die. So yes if you put in another compatible processor it will carry both computing and video rendering functions. While you might get a processor a tick or 2 faster in computing it will essentially have the same graphics unit and will not improve your gaming experience enough to be worthwhile.

    You're very welcome.
Look into a card that will work within the limits of the 400W power supply.
    Maybe a Radeon HD 6670

  • Dell Laptop Availability

I've been following a listing for a new Dell laptop for a couple of weeks now and it still shows as out of stock, both online and in stores.  Any idea when I can stop waiting and start buying?
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+XPS+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174;+Core%26%23153;+i7+Processor+/+15.6%2...

Broken product link - does not work.
Is it, by any chance, a Sandy Bridge (Core i7-2xxx) laptop?
Nearly all Sandy Bridge products were temporarily pulled from the market in late January due to a flaw affecting four of the six SATA ports in the chipset that is paired with Sandy Bridge CPUs.  Fixed silicon is expected to become available from Intel in early/mid March.  Intel has resumed shipments of the "flawed" silicon to system vendors who can guarantee that they won't ship configurations affected by the flaw (mainly systems with the affected SATA ports disabled/associated connectors removed.  Probably if it is Sandy Bridge based the XPS system has an eSATA port or supports a RAID hard drive configuration, which means it is highly likely to be held until Intel ships fixed silicon.
If it isn't SNB based - you might be seeing an artifact of the fact that it was supposed to get replaced with a new system, but the replacement was unexpectedly delayed at the last minute.  It kind of messed with all manufacturer's product line plans as they were ramping production of older systems down to make room for the new.

  • Hi,please suggest me some games for Compaq CQ62-105TU Laptop. Can I upgrade my laptop's graphics card

Hi,please suggest me some games for Compaq CQ62-105TU Laptop. Can I upgrade my laptop's graphics card

Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade the processor or graphics card on this laptop.
Here is a page from CPU-World that gives the specs for your processor:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bobcat/AMD-E%20Series%20E2-1800.html
You will see down near the bottom of the page that it is not upgradeable. Some laptops come with the processor soldered to the motherboard. Almost all laptop graphics are this way. The only way that you would be able to get a faster processor/better graphics for this laptop would be to purchase a brand new motherboard. You can do an Ebay search for 'HP G6 motherboard' to see what average prices are if you want to go this route.

    Hi:
Unfortunately in most of today's notebooks (including yours), the graphics cannot be upgraded.
I looked at the service manual for your notebook, and there aren't even any other motherboards with better graphics available.
You can try the latest drivers from AMD to see if that helps, any but you can't do anything with the hardware.

  • I have Windows 8 on a Dell laptop, i upgraded to 8.1 When i download iTunes, when i click finish, awindow pops up that says," Application support not found, uninstall iTunes and download again,Error 2" After 3times,it still says same thing.

Hello Community, I hope ya'll can help me. I have a Dell Laptop with a 32-bit Operating System, running Windows 8 with Media Center. I Upgraded to Windows 8.1 recently. Some of my Apps I had with Win. 8 were not compatible with 8.1. This next is my problem, When I install iTunes everything downloads fine until I click finish. @ windows pop up, 1 after the other. The 1st one says, " Application Apple Support not found, Uninstall iTunes and try download again. "  Then a second window says, " Error 2 ",  "The iTunes Application cannot run without the Apple Support ...."  What is this "Error 2" and is there a fix for this? I appreciate everyones knowledge in helping me come to a solution. as I aint no hi-tech redneck!    Thank you,  Bob Bryan

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component, such as Apple Application Support, won't install normally.

  • Solaris on x86 Dell Laptop - keyboard driver!

    Hello,
As some of you may have a Dell Laptop I am asking if anyone has
had any success installing Solaris 8 for Intel. If you have please
    drop me a line.
So far I have worked my way past the hangs during the install's
configuration of /dev. I had to remove all references to cardbus in
the "Edit Device" settings of the device configuration assistant.
But then I hit the second problem where the first keypress at the
language selection window sends repeating characters until the keyboard
buffer is full. In other words it goes nuts because the Solaris driver
does not support the Dell Latitude CPi laptop keyboard. I know it is
not a supported configuration but I have little option since Sun are
no longer interested in supporting laptops in Solaris 8.
I already know there is a USB keyboard workaround but I dont
fancy myself hauling around a seperate keyboard just so I can use
    Solaris 8.
More specificallly I am looking for driver settings to make the
existing keyboard driver work or an alternative keyboard driver to solve the
issue. Sun can you help out here?
Any suggestions appreciated, especially some input from Sun.

    Hi knightweb,
Did you checked the BigAdmin center to know if your box is compatible / known to work ?
The installation program says your drive is RO ? Are you installing from a CD ? If yes, be sure that the disk choosed to the installation is not the CD drive (I don't know Dell 6350 anyway)
Did you tried to broke the last partition if there's one with fdisk ?

  • What Dell Laptops are good for 3D Typography in Photoshop CC 2014?

Well the search goes on...my Dell 17 with Intel Pentium ain't cuttin' it! lol
My range is $900 - $1100. I'm looking for a Dell Laptop with a 17" monitor and ample processor with enough "dedicated graphics memory" to utilize the 3D features on Photoshop CC 2014 and Illustrator cc 2014.
Unlike the AMD and NVIDIA processors, which have a certain amount of RAM dedicated for just the graphics, Intel's i3, i5, and i7 don't list what amount of the RAM is dedicated to the graphics.
    HELP!
    Sincerely,
    ALCi

As it happens, if you ever watch 'The Photoshop Guys' on Kelby TV, they nearly all use MBPs exclusively.  I believe one of them also uses a desktop — maybe Cory Barker because he does all the 3D stuff.  I'd worry that a laptop that does not specify video RAM, is using onboard video, and not a dedicated video card.  The GPU is an important component regards Photoshop performance, so make sure you get it right.

  • Upgrading Graphics Card on T400 Laptop?

    Hi,
I'm just wondering if it is possible to upgrade the Graphics Card on my T400 Laptop. I opened up Device Manager, went to Display Adapters, and it's a pretty weak (so I hear) Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family. I would like to upgrade this, because of many different reasons. (One of which includes sometimes having my computer "black out" for a second, then say that some sort of display thing has failed but recovered, and images/videos loading slow, etc..., as well as the main problem of whenever I load something that is graphics heavy, whether it be some imaging assignment or a video game, I hear my computer working extra-hard and a "clicking" noise comes from my computer I think, and I feel like it's because my graphics card is not "good" enough, and I might as well upgrade it if possible).
So yeah, I was just wondering if it is possible to upgrade the Graphics Card on my T400 Lenovo Laptop, and where to buy a new one (if possible).
    Thanks!

    'evening.
there's no "graphics card", per se, in your machine. it's all surface-mount soldered to the planar. even in the case of models that feature switchable graphics, the discrete gpu is soldered (vs socketed) to the planar. so, there's no upgrading that way, sorry.
    regards.

  • Upgrading graphics card on a Lenovo 3000 N500 laptop

Is a 'BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card' compatible with this laptop? If not, which type of card should I look for to be compatible? And how do I install it? Right now I have 2 'Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family' graphics cards installed.

Laptop graphics cards tend to be soldered on. Some have replaceable units which utilize a manufacturer proprietary port. Others have what's called a MXM slot which are somewhat interchangeable.
However, considering your laptop was manufactured with integrated graphics, it is highly unlikely that you will be to change/upgrade to a better graphics card.
I do believe that there will be a better solution in the future. Read about MXM 3.0 standard. It's quite promising.

  • IPhone Upgrade to 2.0 never worked on my Dell Laptop

I wanted to let other users know that the iPhone Upgrade to 2.0 never worked on my Dell laptop. After trying it many times and restoring, I finally used a MacBook to install the upgrade. After doing this, I restored my iPhone settings and data with my Dell laptop.
BTW, I backed up on both laptop before the upgrade.

I had a similar issue when I upgraded last night to 2.0.1...everything went fine no issues last night that I could see...though I didn't make a single call until this morning after doing the upgrade...went to call in to work this morning and couldn't hear them they couldn't hear me and there was no sound whatsoever...turns out that somehow the 2.0.1 update caused my iPhone to go into a staus where it though it had my headphones in all the time...this resolved by following the information on this support document ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630?viewlocale=en_US ) finally was a reset of the iPhone (step #7) that seemed to resolve it for me...you might want to try this too.

  • Help with enabling TPM in Task Sequence for Dell Laptops

    Hi there,
I would appreciate some advice on creating a task sequence for Win8.1 with TPM enabling for Dell laptops; I have BitLocker set up manually with a Group policy, but want to have TPM enabled in the task sequence. I have read older posts on sites such as windows

Obviously I haven't created this before so any help would be appreciated; I have noticed when I try to import my CCTK configurations into SCCM as it isn't a zip file I cannot do it.
