Upgrading Grid Control 10.2.0.2 - segments are at different releases

Hi everyone,
Currently, I've got Grid Control running on Solaris (SunOS 5.9). The Repository DB is 10.2.0.2, the Management Service is 10.2.0.3 and the Management Agent is 10.2.0.3 on the host and all the targets (6 of them)
The target DB's vary from 9.2.0.5 to 10.2.0.4, which is where the issue is - 1 targets DB version is higher than the Repository and Management Service which is causing me some issues.
Therefore, I want to upgrade the Repository DB and the Management Service to 10.2.0.4. I've got this readme for the 10.2.0.4 Grid Control install/upgrade:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/gridr4_10204_readme_solaris.html
But I don't know whether I need to upgrade the DB first or after the Management Service??
If things run logically, I would upgrade the DB to 10.2.0.4 either manually or using DBCA and then upgrade the Management Service (using "Use existing DB" option following the steps in the doc above) - does this sound ok??
Has anyone else done this?? Would I also have to upgrade the Agents on the targets too??
Thanks,
Ric.

Ric,
The OMS patch will take care of the Grid Control Repository Schema so no worries there. The steps in the document should get you there, since your database is not 10.2.0.3 there is a database upgrade required to apply the 10.2.0.4 Grid Control you will need to patch the database to 10.2.0.3 before you proceed with the 10.2.0.4 grid control. Not sure if I made that very clear in my last post
As for the AGENT the agent is in a different home and therefore the patch will have to be applied separately. So yes to patch applications 1 for the OMS and 1 for the Agent. Then a patch for the agents on all machines where the agent is located.

  • Not able to generate DDL on new install of OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.5

I upgraded grid control to 10.2.0.5 and can not get it to generate DDL.
I click generate ddl and get the basic message 'Generate DDL has been submitted successfully. It could take a while to complete if the baseline version contains a large number of objects.'
And it says that it is being generated in the DDL column but if you either let it sit there or click the refresh button, it will say Not Generated.
Has anyone come across this and found a solution?
    This is on windows.

Try this on your versionof 10.2.0.5:
On the Dictionary Baseline Objects page,
    1. Select all the objects in Non-Schema Object Types
    2. Select objects types and the schemas to include
    3. Select all the objects in Object Types
    4. Add your schemas
    This will succesfullly run.
Now click on the Generated DDL and it will initially say 'Being Generated' in the DDL column.
Either let it sit there or click the Refresh button and the status in the DDL column is now 'Not Generated'.

  • Grid Control installation for 11G: is 10g grid required ?

    Dear All,
We are currently using the local dbconsole for the monitoring and doing administrative work on our 11g database. My limited experience and observation indicates that 11G does not have its own enterprise Grid control yet and it requires the older 10G grid control ? So if we deploy (albeit successfully 10G grid control), does the enterprise manager control tabs will be very different than the current dbconsole in 11G ?
    Thanks.

Thanks.Upgrade Grid Control to 10.2.0.5. Grid Control is an independent product and will not follow the same numbering as Database and App Server/Fusion.
It will provide a lot of extra pages and tabs anyway. And it will format and present the information for Oracle 11g properly to work in it's pages.
    Try it and see.

  • Switchover in a data guard environment using Grid Control 10.2.0.3

I've tested switchover in a data guard environment using Data Guard Broker in Grid Control.
However, at times, i receive the message "RemoteOperationException: failed to establish input streaming thread". It looks like it has problems connecting to the remote node using the host credentials supplied. I know the credentials are ok because this worked before. If i test preferred credentials, it's ok too..
The workaround has been to restart the database and this seems to work.
    Has anyone experienced this?

  • Grid Control only 32-bit available for Windows

Couple of questions I was hoping to get some help with. Client is a windows only shop. We're installing Windows 2008 R1 64-bit, but Grid Control is only available with 32-bit for Windows. This will definitely cause issues, is the only around it to either load 32-bit, or is there any other option. And when will 64-bit be available for Windows? Thanks in advance.

Grid Control itself is a 32 bit application . It installs and works furpectly well on 64 bit Windows. I doubt we will ever see a 64-bit version of GC in the 10g series ... perhaps when they swap out OC4J with WLS and rebrand it as 11g they might put in a 64-bit version, but quite honestly there is little need for the 64-bit capability in the middle tier.
However, the database part can, and should, be swapped out for a 64-bit database. Which is supported in the install method.
I STRONGLY ENcourage the following sequence:
    1) Install 11gR1 database 64 bit, preferably patched to 11.1.0.7
    2) Install Grid Control 10.2.0.2.1 (note the .1) for Windows using the 'into an existing database' option
    3) Upgrade Grid Control to 10.2.0.5 (but that MAY require the 11.1.0.7 patch - check the README)
I STRONGLY DIScourage using the 'create with new database' as it will take a whole lot longer, requires upgrading and/or patching the database anyway, and potentially leaves you with an obsolete DB to contend with in the long run.
I also encourage skipping 10.2.0.4 if possible - it's more than a ruddy pain to patch to that one. I generally plan on 5-6 hours if I am forced to install a 10.2.0.4 GC from scratch, whereas the process I list above takes just over 2 hours to get to a 10.2.0.5

  • Can Oracle Application Diagnostics for Java used with Grid Control 10.2.0.3

I have installed Grid Control 10.2.0.3 in Solaris 10.
I was asked to install AD4J . Is it necessary to upgrade Grid Control to 10.2.0.4 for installing AD4J or can I use the present 10.2.0.3 version withour upgrading it ?

    Hello.
We already have Grid Control 10.2.0.4 and just installed AD4J 10.2.0.4. This version of AD4J is not integrated with Grid Control, and can be setup on any server by unzipping the downloaded file (no installer). I did find the installation/configuration documentation lacking, but worked through it with a little help from Oracle Support.
The AD4J console has the look and feel of Grid Control, but is totally separate app with its own Apache server, etc.

  • Grid control Installation.

    Hello Everybody,
I have to immplement the 10g grid control and the scenario's goes like this.
I have database installed on HP-UX 11.11i and a Windows server.
Now can I install the grid agent on HP-UX(database server) and a OMS(repository) on Windows server 2003.
    Is there any compatibility issues.
    Eagarly waiting for your responses?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
What I understood out of the description is ...
    You have 2 servers
    1) HP UX ====> Already one database is running which you want to monitor after implementing grid control
    2) Windows server =====> Here you are planning to install grid control 10g mean OMS repository as per your quote
    First,
You can install Grid Control in any of the 2 servers it is available for HPUX as well as Windows.
Grid control monitors targets (i.e. databases, hosts, listeners etc.) through Agent software which is available for all the
flavours of unix and windows. So, you can install grid control on any of the box and monitor both the boxes. There will
    be no compatibility issues.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
    Best Regards,
    Nirav

  • Allow grid control agent to connect to a database as sys with no listener

    Hi
I have a database which I would like to monitor using the 10g grid control agent.
the agent and DB are on a Unix Box
The database has a listener, but because it is part of a contingency system we keep the listener shut down
    my question is:
Is it possible to configure the agent to connect to a Database (as sysdba) without the listener for that database running?

No its is not possible if listener is not running

  • What is Hardware/O.S. Recommendations for Grid Control server

I understand both Linux and Window servers are supported for Grid Control Installation.
However, since we are running Exadata database and cells, what would be your recommendation when we choose which O.S. we should run G.C. on?
Since the entire Exadata environment is running Linux, so, personally I'd prefer to use Linux server. But, what is your preference, and please detail your reasons.
    Thank you!

Grid Control (OEMGC 11g) for Windows is only available (certified) for 32 bit Windows. So you can run into memory limitations, dependeing on the number of agents/targets you will be monitoring. Second you have to install Cygwin on your Windows server if you want (or need) to be able to SSH to a Linux/Unix server. Installing Cygwin is very problematic to say the least.
If you would use OEMCC (12c), and I don't know why you wouldn't, you can install the 64 bit version for Windows however you still have to install Cygwin.
So in your case I would go for the Linux version.

  • Grid Control  - Novice

    Hi!
I just want to know how to install and test the tool called Grid Control, and if it could be possible to use this tool in order to have some kind of GUI or API to start and stop databases, services, listeners. Because we made something using unix shell scripting but now everything has to be different.
I will wait for your answers.

What version of Oracle database are you working on? For example, if you have Oracle 10g; chances are that you already have the OEM Database Control console installed. If you want to manage a single database, I would recommend that you go through the following two links first:
