Upgrading HDD to 80GB on Satellite 2450-101

Hello,
Is it possible to upgrade the above mentioned model with the Toshiba MK8032GAX a 80GB HDD?
If not is will it be possible after upgrading the BIOS version ?
All information welcome.
Conradus

Hmm, the problem is that Toshiba does not provide any official information about the max compatible HDD sizes. I didnt find anything on the Toshiba page.
In my knowledge the HDD with 30GB, 40GB or 60GB size will work 100% but Im not sure about the 80GB HDD.
I think you should simply test it and if you have more details please post it again.

  • HDD Password prompt - Satellite 2450-101

    Hello everyone!..
I am a new user and would like to know if any one has any suggestions of how I can fix my computer problem?
I have a Toshiba Satellite 2450-101 laptop which i recently brought a new battery and adapter for due to the machine not being used for several months, everything was fine for a few hours!...the screen went 'blue' and I restarted programe, however I then proceeded to get an error message (forgive me as I don't remember exactly what it said!)that said something about Realteck? and Ethernet cable error and then prompted me to insert system disk?
Unfortunately after pressing enter the same message kept on being displayed, eventually I decided to used the recovery disc's to re-boot the computer but all I get now is the 'Welcome Screen-followed by a long pause, followed by a black screen which ask's for "Built in HDD Password?
Does anyone know if this is a fixable problem?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!
    I

    Hi
It looks like your HDD is locked using an HDD password.
I dont know why this password is required but if you dont know such password then your HDD is not more accessible and you will have to buy a new one.
Possibly its a simply HDD issue and therefore the notebook crashed before this HDD password has appeared therefore I think you need a new HDD.

  • Replacing harddisk for Satellite 2450-101

hi, my laptop harddisk has broken down and I need a replacement harddisk for my aging *Satellite 2450-101* urgently, but I can not find from my mannual and other source the model my laptop support.
I thought it is a *standard internal 2.5" IDE* (and thinking to buy a _Western Digital 250GB 2.5" Hard Drive IDE 5400rpm 8MB Cache - OEM,_ model: _WD Scorpio WD2500BEVE - 250 GB - ATA-100_ ), but I am not certain.
Would anyone know? Please help. Many thanks!

Thank you guys!! Appriciate your helps. Afterall I tried the traditional way today, try it out!
I order from ebuyer the above mentioned harddisk last night, and replaced my broken harddisk with the new one this morning, then run the two recovery disk that came with my laptop, things has gone well. Except that I had no option of partioning the harddisk at the beginning of the process. After a little fiddling with the Computer Manager, my new harddisk is now in a duo partition: ~30GB and ~200GB, which is Okay with me; 30GB is enough for system files, while the other 200GB will keep my data separate. I was suprised that the whole 250GB works fine, at first I was only expecting a reduced disk space leaving the rest wasted, I am happy it all went well.
Also I upgraded my RAM to 1GB from 512MB, which make a significant positive difference in term of system response and speed. I would recommend anyone with an aging Satellite and little RAM to increase its memory, since now aday OS and programs take up alot of memory, this simple upgrade could possibly leave your Satellite runing well for another few years.
Well, now I am back on track!! Thanks guys.

  • DVD drive failure at Satellite 2450-101

    Hi again guys...
I have another problem with my old Toshiba Satellite 2450-101 laptop which I hope you can help me with.
The original DVD-rom drive - a Teac DW-224E - went 'off the radar' a couple of times about a year ago and would only re-appear in My Computer after a re-boot but it would then quickly disappear again.
It was puzzling as the drive was still listed in Device Manager as working properly.
It would then take a full re-install to get it back again when the process would start all over again.
Now during the boot up process a message appears at the top of the screen saying 'Eide error'..
I bought a new brown-box replacement DVD-RW dual layer drive from PC World- a Sony IA2604H - and installed it but it is exactly the same but this time it is quoted in the Device Manager as a 'SCSI CD-rom device'....which it most certainly isn't.
In both cases the Drives are completely dead and will not even eject the trays.
Needless to say this is driving me nuts.
    Can you suggest anything?
    With Thanks again..
    JB

Can you boot from bootable CD's?
If yes, then try removing the upperfilters and lowerfilters:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=314060
If you cannot boot from CD's, then either:
    1) The ODD connector or another component on the mainboard is faulty/loose.
    2) The original Teac ODD is faulty, and the new Sony is not compatible (has incorrect Master/Slave settings)

  • Satellite 2450 -101 Broken Hinge - Disassembly guide required

Hi does anyone know where I can get hold of a disassembly guide to replace my broken hinge? I have the part but want to make sure I strip it down correctly. Any help gratefully received.

    Hi
I would also not recommend removing and opening the notebook by yourself if you have no enough experience. You could damage some parts instead of repairing ;)
Every notebook technician could do this job for some bucks. so asks someone in your area.
By the way; I found an interesting website how replacing Satellite 2435 LCD screen. This notebook is similar to Sat 2450.
    Maybe its useful:

    Hi there,
you should check if you have all codecs installed which is needed by your system to play movies properly.
I suggest you to recover your system, install the latest nvidia drivers from these sites:
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
    http://www.omegadrivers.net/
and the latest codec pack from here:
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
after installing all these stuff give a little feedback if the problem persists..

  • Satellite 2450-101: Wireless Card not found

Hello: I seem to be unable to make my internal wireless card working on this model. After reading few postings, i am not even sure if my model has a wireless card, altough I was told it does and reading manuals and simply observing the laptop, it seems so.
Can anyone confirm if this model (bought in Spain) has wireless card and how to set it up please? The little light next to the switch is dark, I have tried all possible in terms driver setup etc.
    Thanks
    Hynek

    Hello
This unit is WiFi ready and please check in device manager if the wireless card is listed there. You can find it under network adapters.
Usually all notebook models with WiFi card have a WiFi label on the bottom side. Check it.
    Bye

  • Satellite 2450 HDD upgrade

    Hello all,
after reading a bit about the issues related to uprading HDD on laptops, I write to know if anybody has experience of doing so on a Satellite 2450 model (-101), which came with a 30Gb HD (MK3021GAS).
I'd wish to install a 80GB HD (like MK8025GAS), anybody can give me an advice on which HD model would be better to use? Behind BIOS possible limitations, I've noticed a different interface specification (e.g. this one has ATA-6, while my current one has DMA/ATA-100, and I'm not sure to know the meaning of this...).
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Alberto.

    Hi
I have investigated a little bit and I have found a information that unit supports only the 30GB, 40GB and 80GB HDDs.
    HDD2181B 30GB
    HHD2182B 40GB
    HDD2171B 40GB
    HDD2183B 60GB
    HDD2184B 60GB
The HDD supports 100 MAX Ultra DMA mode
Hope this will help you a little bit
    regards

  • CPU upgrade on Satellite L30-101

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-101. I've upgraded the RAM successfully to 2GB (2x 1GB) but I'm finding it incredibly hard to get information on processor replacements.
The laptop has the latest BIOS on it (3.10-WIN - 19/02/08) but when trying to find information regarding whats in it I'm hitting brick walls. Firstly the site > http://www.toshiba-tro.de/biosinfo/ < doesn't have my laptop on it,
    Product Type: Notebook
    Family: Satellite
    Product Series: Satellite L Series
    Model: ? unknown
    Short Model No: ? unknown
I did hope I could stick an Intel Duo in but with the ATI chipset, I'm pretty sure it wont work but again without knowing whats within BIOS, compatible.. I'm lost. The only processor I can find which may work, same package, FSB, socket is an Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 which kicks out 1.86 GHz, not a massive difference and I'm sure it can't be the only replacement option.
Could someone and staff please help me with getting hold of BIOS info and compatible processors for my laptop. The current Intel Celeron M Processor 410 kicking out 1.46 GHz isn't good enough for Vista (cert on laptop) and basic multi tasking. Its lagging way too much even after a good tune up, ram upgrade, HD upgrade to 7200RPM. I'm in need of a processor upgrade but as mention finding it incredibly hard to obtain information of which would be compatible.
    Sincerely,
    Gourcuff

    Hello
In my opinion your attempt to replace CPU is wrong. Why? Satellite L30 is not designed to offer some fabulous performance and it is designed for everyday usage. Best evidence for this was the price. It was not so expensive.
Can you please tell us why do you want to have new CPU? Do you use some special software?
Back to CPU replacement. As you probably know mobile computers have limited upgrade options and it is related to RAM and HDD upgrade. It is definitely unprovided for CPU upgrade and it is not supported. Specific design, especially cooling system is designed for certain CPU.
Due to all this you will not be able to find any relevant info about CPU replacement.
Check please this Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

  • Satellite 2430-101: USB 2.0 External HDD problem

    Hallo Everybody,
I have Toshiba satellite 2430-101. I recently bought external 40GB hard disk. When I connected to my toshiba usb hub, it says it exceeds the limit of power suppy and I need to detach the external hard disc. When I read from recent questions, somebody suggested to uncheck the power options to the usb hub, but still it says the same. Are they anybody to help me.
    Regards
    Sri

    Hello Sri
Has the USB hub own power supply? If yes I hope that you have tested it with and without power supply.
Can you use HDD if you connect it directly to the Satellite notebook?

  • Upgrade HDD - Satellite Pro 4270

Is it possible to upgrade HDD more than 6 GB? Thanks

    Hello
Unfortunately there is no public document about HDD upgrade but i presume that 10 or even 12 GB HDD should work well.

  • Memory problems on Satellite L30-101

I have a toshiba satellite l30-101 laptop and wanted to upgrade RAM, so i bought 2x 1GB sticks to put in it.
Now i couldnt find any 533mhz ones so i bought 2 667mhz after a spoke to a technical guy who said if i got 2 of same speed it would work fine.
Only it doesnt at all i can put one stick in and it runs fine with the 533mhz.
One i have in if i try and put both new sticks in it comes up with memory errors and I get the bsod which restarts my comp and would not allow me to run my games or other programs.
Is there anyway to make it so I can have both of the new sticks in as i really need the ram and dont want to buy diff ones.
I mean if I can get one to work other one should surely work right ?
please help im going mad trying to fix the damn thing

    Hi
I think the memory speed has nothing to do with the BSOD!
In my opinion the BSOD appears due to the memory module malfunction!
Furthermore the L30-101 supports only the 533 Mhz FSB. In this case you will be not able to run the 667Mhz memory modules with full speed.
The modules will run only at 533Mhz!!!
So in my opinion you should replace the faulty module with a one which works fine!
    Best regards

  • Where is memory socket on Satellite 2450-SP295

    I need install memory expansion
    Please. Spoke Spanish. Thanks.

Firstly all questions and comments in this Toshiba forum are posted in the English language
and I assume all users can correspondent only in English.
    Now to your question:
The Satellite 2450-SP295 is not known to me but I have found some info about the Satellite 2450-S203.
Both units show very similar and should have the memory slots under the keyboard.
If you want to upgrade the memory you have firstly remove the keyboard.
The keyboard is secured with 2 screws which are placed under the thin cover above the keyboard.

  • Corrupt files on Satellite 2450

    Hi everyone,
about a year ago on a toshiba laptop -info below- my wife complained that her 2003 Word files were mysteriously turning into unreadable garble.
Text became symbols...or, a translation box would appear, but there was no way to turn this garble back into her original file. Most of her saved photos also disappeared. (The files remained, but each page was blank upon opening.) So, I wanted to bring this to this forum and see exactly what the heck is going on.
I had my own problems with the laptop. I transferred over 2100 jpegs from my iomega hard drive and created a disc using nero. All was fine until I viewed the disc on another dvd player - info files were black, some pictures would only be viewable part way, and the disc player was struggling to play the cd. When I plugged my Iomega drive into our old 98se work horse and used an older version of nero, I made the cd and it played flawlessly in 2 separate dvd players.

    Hi there,
seems that either the harddrive or the RAM is defective. I am not sure, but if I were you I would exchange these components since your problem does not sound like an software related problem..
First of all try to replace the memory modules because they are sometimes the main reason for such error. I would test the modules with "SuperPi" before replacing the RAM. The same should be done with the harddrive, depending on the manufacturer of the HDD I would check the manufacturers website for some drive specific tools to check if the drive works properly.
