Upgrading higher than mac os x 10.6.8

Hi
I have recently bought a second hand iMac (white one) with Mac OS X 10.6.8 on it - but am unable to upgrade to any higher software or change the mobileme icon to icoud.
Does anyone have any ideas?
With thanks
Jo

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu.
If the processor is listed as Core Duo, it can't be upgraded further.
If the processor is listed as Core 2 Duo or better, purchase Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. If this produces a message that the computer is incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.
Getting the iCloud icon requires upgrading to at least 10.7.2.

  • I need to upgrade higer than Mac OS X 10.5.8.

Does anyone know how? I just got the iphone 5 and I cant use the cloud and sync my stuff because the version of mac os x I have is too old. Help!

No, you need to order the 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD from the online Apple Store.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. Lion will allow you to access iCloud. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Is it possible to upgrade to higher than "snow leopard" directly?

My MacBook is not what it used to be. I've had it for four years now and have not upgraded the OS, so it is still on Leopard. Is it possible - and how much does it cost - to upgrade to higher than "snow leopard" directly? In which case, how do I do it?
    Thanks guys!

    Hi Maria,
Any newer  oSX is going to slow you down, but may be useful, but you need 10.6 & update it to 10.6.78 to go any higher.
You need to get 10.6 & update to 10.6.8 first to be able to buy it from the App Store & download it.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.
Call Apple Sales...in the US: 1-800-MY-APPLE. Or Support... 1-800-275-2273

You have to get 10.6.8 first to go even higher to 10.7 or 10.8

  • Hi, I read all about  my Mac book doesn't recognize my iPhone. I tried every advice, still it doesn't work.  I have on MacBook the newest version of iTunes and work with iPhone 3 gs. The line says, you need iTunes higher than 10.6.3. It will not download.

Hi, my problem: my iphone3gs is not recognized by my MacBook, although I tried every single step you suggested. It happened only shortly, before it worked perfectly. What to do?

Your OS can not run iTunes higher than the version that you have now, thus no 10.6.3.

  • Upgrading Early 2009 Mac Pro to Yosemite

I need an upgrading for dummies tutorial   I want to upgrade some applications that I use and can not do that with Mountain Lion which is currently on my Early 2009 Mac Pro. (Processor 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - Memory 12 GB - Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB - OSX 10.8.5). My monitor is a NEC MultiSync P221W and I use Spectraview II to calibrate. I also have an older Dell monitor attached that I only use for palettes, etc.
I have discovered I can not upgrade to Mavericks and will need to go to Yosemite. I am nervous about the process and undecided what is the best way to tackle this. I assume I will first need to do a full backup and do have a bootable drive that I can use. Can I then just install Yosemite or is it best to do a clean install? I have heard so many negative things about installing Yosemite that I am really uncertain of the best way to tackle this. I am particularly concerned about the reports of system slow down.I have an even older MacBook Pro that is also running Mountain Lion but I have no plans to attempt an upgrade on it. It has had problems since it was fairly new and right now I use an external keyboard and a mouse because using the track pad or keyboard on the laptop cause it to lock up. (Long story and multiple rebuilds during and after Apple Care). So at this point the only machine I am concerned about is the desktop. I use it mainly for Photoshop and Lightroom and Quicken. If someone can give me some advice I would be most appreciative. I am an older gal with casual computer knowledge, living out in the sticks and really have no one available for help. Thanks in advance

  • GeForce 7300 GT Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro?? G5?

    Hi,
Just found this on the apple store:
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=1643C421&nplm=M A567
"NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro"
Why is it only for mac pro? its PCI express & my g5 is one of the late 2005 models and it has PCI Express so am i wrong in thinking that this should work fine or is it something to do with the new intel architecture?
If i remember correctly i could have chosen this card or a very similar one when i configured my G5.
    Thanks

That card is only for the Mac Pro, as it says.
When you ordered your G5, you had the choice of the nVidia 6600 (or 6600LE), nVidia 7800GT, or the Quadro FX 4500.
The 7800GT that you could have ordered with your G5 is close in performance to the ATi X1900XT that is an option on the Mac Pro. The 7300GT that you're looking at is an entry level card, which the 7800GT definitely is not.
The 7300GT and the X1900XT are both Mac Pro only due to the ROM on the card, which is designed to work with the EFI booting hardware that the Mac Pro uses. The G5s used Open Firmware, which requires a different ROM on the video card. So, even though both your G5 and the Mac Pro are PCI-Express based, these video cards are not compatible.
Now, most PCI-Express cards that you look at for, say, external SATA, will probably work in both the G5 and the Mac Pro. You'd still want to check the specs to be sure, however.
If you're looking for a new video card to replace your (presumably) nVidia 6600, your only real option is the ATi X1900 G5 edition. This is a different card than the X1900XT that's offered for the Mac Pro.

  • HT3702 The charges to my account are higher than what I actually charged?

I have been billed by iTunes for numerous amounts the past month.  I play candy crush and my phone is always in my possession but the charges I'm being charged is always higher than what I use.  Today I played and used 2 $0.99 but when I logged into my bank it is showing two charges for $9.94 and $9.93?  I have kept a record of what has been charged to my card and it is not matching up.  It is totally over $180.00 and I have never nor would I ever charge that much for a game.  Please call me or email me ASAP concerning these erroreous charges!

I received my new Verizon Edge bill in the mail and it is $80 higher than my old plan.  I have been so unhappy with this change over.  Went through hell getting our second phone activated because of a weird computer glitch and when we asked if we would receive any consideration for the time, travel, and money we put into getting the phones the way they were supposed to be, we were told to wait until the bill came and then they could make adjustments.  Now I have the bill and have no idea "who" the we would be that could make adjustments.  To top it off, the only way I know my account will get any attention is to post this in chat.  I am so disappointed and will be counting the months until our phones are paid off and we can change companies.

I just purchased a new device using Verizon Edge. Why does my bill look higher than normal?
There’s two reasons why your first bill after signing up for Edge might be higher than normal:
Prorate Charges – If you upgraded an existing line and did a price plan change, you may have price plan charges and credits that went into effect the day you upgraded.
Sales Tax – Most states require sales tax on the full retail price paid by the customer, which in most instances will be charged at the time of the first invoice.
Note: Customers who purchased devices in AL, AZ, CO, IL, NM, ND or SD will be billed taxes and surcharges monthly as payments are made.
    Your bill will normally include:
    Your last Edge installment payment
    The next Edge installment charge
If you are on a MORE Everything Plan, a monthly access discount for each qualifying line.
The details of Edge installments and discounts can be viewed at the line level portion of your bill under Monthly Charges and Equipment Charges, or in My Verizon, My Bill then Charges By Line.

  • I have a Mountain Lion license and I would like to use that license in order to upgrade my old mac book pro running Lion.

How can I do it without purchasing Snow Leopard again?  Currently this version of OSX is not equipped with AppStore.  Thanks a lot in advance.

You are going to have to upgrade to Snow Leopard before you can install Mountain Lion.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Model Numbers                  Computer Compatibility - Apple
If your computer isn't compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.
    Computer Compatibility - Lion
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported.        Application Compatibility
You can also check which applications are PowerPC by going to the  menu, select About this Mac, click on More info…, then click System Report and select Software/Applications.
If you have applications that you want to use that aren’t compatible, you can retain Snow Leopard and create a new partition to install Mountain Lion on or you can run Snow Leopard  server in a virtual mode.
    Do a backup before installing.
Boot using the disks that came with your computer, the Snow Leopard DVD (if installed) or the Recovery volume (command -R) if upgrading from Lion. Use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair  the disk and run Repair Permissions. Restart normally.
Upgrade to Snow Leopard (if required), then update to 10.6.8.     Snow Leopard Purchase
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable DVD/USB stick to install using this free program.

  • Why can't I get an update higher than OS X 10.6.8?

I am new to this whole thing but... Why won't my computer update past/higher than 10.6.8 (I ran the software update and it said I'm up to date)? I need at least 10.7 for an application I'd like to download...

Which model MacBook Pro do you have? 10.6.8 is the last version of Snow Leopard - you would have to purchase Lion or Mountain Lion but, if your machine will support Mavericks (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842), you can update to that free.
Purchasing Lion or Mountain Lion requires a call to Apple - you can't buy it directly from the Mac App Store.

    Hello Guru’s,
Will you help me in editing the CATT script for changes in Web application server release higher than 6.4 release, when I look for edit mode it was showing the following message. will anyone suggest me is there any way to make changes.

    Full points for the answer

It seems there there is no problem with my FireFox 7.0.1 on my Mac OSX 10.7.2. So, maybe you can solve the problem by updating your OS. The only minor problem here is that Firefox doesn't display in the Tibetan fonts that you choose, it always display in Kailas font for Tibetan.

  • Version Rman catalog higher than target database

    Hi,
I have a database 10.1.0.2, but I couldn´t upgrade it to 10.1.0.3 or 10g R2 because this database is used by a application that needs this Oracle database version.
I have the catalog in another host with the same Oracle version, and I want to upgrade this database to 10.1.0.3 at least.
Is there any problem if I do the backups with a catalog with a version higher than the target database?
    Thanks a lot.
    Laura.

There should not be any problem in backup after upgrade of catalog database.
    Cheers
