Upgrading iCal Calendars...

When I reboot my MacBook Pro running OS X Lion, iCal comes up and displays a dialog box saying "Upgrading iCal Calendars...". ". This window stays on forever and I finally force quit iCal and start iCal again. This time iCal starts up without any problems. Although this is not a major issue, I would like to get rid of this minor annoyance.
Following is the information relating to this problem:
iCal Version:          5.0.1 (1547.4)
OSX Version:        10.7.2
iCal connects to Microsoft Exchange Server at my place of employment. In addition it has three other personal calendars associated with my iPhone on it.
Any help would be great appreciated.
Thanks

I've had the same message ("Upgrading iCal calendars...") for over 24 hours now.  It appears to be stuck at approx 75%.  The prgress bar has not changed in 15 hours, but I do see CPU Time increasing, the CPU% changing and the # of threads changing (from 6 to 7 to 6, etc.).
How can I tell if it's really doing something?
What happens if I FORCE it out or reboot?
How long is too long to leave it be?

  • 10.7.5 update progress bar "upgrading iCal calendars"

I completed the 10.7.5 update on my MacBook Pro (2011) about ten minutes ago. Since then, after opening iCal, the progress bar "upgrading iCal calendars" has been sitting here. I do have a lot of historical calendar data, going back to 2003. Has anyone else had this problem? Will it finish if I let it go, or are my calendars already corrupt?
I'm worried because I've had bluetooth/external speaker audio issues, followed some directions, tried to boot into safe mode, and wasn't able to (left the machine for 3 hours, progress bar stuck at about 25%).
    thanks,
    Kim

After an hour, I tried to quit iCalendar. It was "application not responding," so I force quit, and got back in. In the title bar, it said it was updating, for maybe 45 seconds. Now it's fine and my historical data (stored locally) is there.
I upgraded another machine, and the Updating progress dialog box appeared for less than a minute and then was fine.
There's probably something underlying that's wrong with my main machine. Guess I'd better get on with cleaning up.

  • ICal on my MAC book seems to be hung up.  Msg. says "upgrading ical calendars-"

ICal on my MACBook running 10.7.5 seems to be hung up.  Appointments from my iphone sync and show up but I am not able to enter anything to iCal on my MAC or change from monthly calendar to week or day view.  The message (for days) shows PROGRESS "Upgrading iCal calendars..."  What should I do to get this working again?

    Roger,
Quit iCal, paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Then open the Preferences Folder in that Library Folder, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart, and open iCal to update.

  • Setting up iCloud cannot get passed upgrading iCal calendars

Im trying to set up Icloud on my iMac running 10.7.5.
Setting up iCloud cannot get passed (upgrading iCal calendars) notification, most of my calendar has disapeared. I have not turned on iCloud on any other of my devices. Any help would be gratfull.

Sign out, let the calendars be deleted (they will be put back when you sign back in)
    Backup first.

  • Sgned up for iCloud 3 days ago.  Why is "upgrading iCal Calendar" still running?

Systems: OS 10.7.5 running on iMac 20 (2006); OS 10.7.5 running on MacBook Pro (2008);  OS 7.0.4 on iPad (2013)
Signed up for iCloud on Tuesday (1/28). On Wednesday, implemented Calendar update.  MacBook and iPad updated smoothly. iMac is still running upgrade.  Progres bar says, "Upgrading iCal calendars...".  Can't open anything in calendar, but alerts for appointments are running.  I can force quit iCal, but it goes back to Upgrading when I reopen it.  Is this normal behavior?

Like all of you, I am experiencing a problem with the iCloud calendar.  I deleted a contact from my contacts on my iPhone 4, but their birthday still remains on the iCloud calendar.
Their details were removed from my contacts on my iPhone 4 and on my Macbook Pro.  Their birthday was successfully removed from iCal on my Macbook Pro and from the calendar on my iPhone 4, but their birthday still remailns on the iCloud calendar.
I tried deleting it from the iCloud calendar, but it always says "READ-ONLY CALENDAR - You cannot make changes to this calendar because it's read-only".  This is because the calendar is a subscription to the birthdays of your contacts.  I have done everything I know of to fix this, but alas, nothing worked.  This is really frustrating.  I think it must be a glitch with the way iCloud syncs because the contacts list on iCloud, my iPhone 4 and my Macbook Pro have all synced correctly to reflect the deletion of the contact and the sync has just left behind a small piece of information on the iCloud calendar.  Information I want gone.
Has anyone had any contact with Apple over this?  I hope that as more people experience this problem, Apple sorts it out ASAP.

  • Ical is stuck on the following progress bar "upgrading ical calendars". How to fix?

While attempting to fix syncing this message appeared and has hung up ical indefinitely. I can force quite but cannot fix. Any suggestions?

    jrObert,
The advice that was given for the OP was offered almost three years ago, and the OP was using OS X 10.6. You are most likely using a newer version of OS X. Try this updated list of instructions.
    1. Disconnect your computer from your internet connection.
    2. From the  Menu, select Force Quit...>Calendar.
    3. Paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
    4. Then open the Calendars Folder in that Library Folder, and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
    5. Next open the Preferences Folder in the same Library Folder, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
    6. Log out/in or restart, and open Calendar.

  • When I launch iCal (on the latest version of Apple's OS-LION) - it gives a dialogue "Upgrading iCal Calendars" that does not go away.

For the record, on Snow Leopard I deleted ICal since it crashed all the time and was useless.

Historically Apple has sold OS X upgrades via DVD media however with the advent of the Mac Apple Store that throws another possibility into the mix. That's about as much as I can say as these forums don't allow us to speculate about future products. As for the cost historically Apple has priced OS X upgrades between $29-$129, the last upgrade (Snow Leopard) was only $29 but that was an exception. Again we cannot speculate on these forums about that. The good news is that Apple is unlike Microsoft which makes OS upgrades expensive and complicated. The choice with OS X is do you want a server version (most users don't need one) or a single computer license. The users that buy server versions tend to have a number of Macs they manage from a server, most consumers don't have this issue.
Keep reading the news, as you know Apple has announced a Summer release for Lion.
Upgrades on OS X are usually very simple. I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and each transition has been very easy. With any major OS upgrade there are some basic rules to follow, for example always, always, always backup prior to any update. When Lion is released to the general public post again for what to do to prepare or even do a Google search on "How to prepare for OS X upgrade" and you will find a number of articles that will provide some suggestions and valuable insight. You can also re-post here and users will be happy to assist.

  • Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.

Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?
I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.  I had a heck of a time getting my Detroit Tigers Baseball team schedules migrated (but Major League Baseball supported the subscriptions, so it occurred).  As I work internationally, having these calendar subscriptions on the new Calendar would be very useful.
If one goes to the Apple site, and seeks calendars [http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/index1.html], they are shunted to MobileMe [https://www.icloud.com/mobileme/not_found/], with the note "MobileMe is closed. Go to iCloud."  But, I do not see how to get subscriptions from iCloud.
    Thanks.

The problem is that many of these calendars were hosted on MobileMe. I actually tried about 20 at random, and only two worked! Not all of the failures were ex-MobileMe, some were on other servers but produced 'File Not Found'.
Strangely, this one worked despite its URL:
    http://ical.mac.com/ical/UK32Holidays.ics
Until the people who publish these calendars (it's not Apple, they are third-party) wake up and find alternative servers these calendars are not available.
There may be other sources which work - try Googling.

  • ICal 4.04 won't update upgraded MobilMe calendar

Driving me crazy and the help topics just send you into an infinite loop without answering questions.
I am on iCal 4.04 and have upgraded to the latest MobilMe calendar, pre-cursors I have been using for two years. Basically, MobilMe refuses to sync/update when I add items either on my iCal calendar on my Mac or on my iPhone. My main computer calendar is up to date and accurate, but MobilMe is not and neither is my iPhone (3G version running iOS4.2...still very slow too!)
Is there a way I can start from scratch, wipe the calendars off MobilMe and reinstall everything to get it working right out of the gate? Resetting the sync data in Preferences did not work either.
Help please, and thanks in advance.

I too am having the same trouble. I have been having largely trouble free synching between MacBook Pro, I mac, Iphone 3GS & iPad for past 8 weeks. Today when I upgraded to iOS 4.2 on my iPad & iPhone, my main calendar and associated notes have stopped syncing. In addition I have up to 12 copies of some previous calendar items, of which only one is correct & the others in complete (template) versions of the events. This is driving me mad.
Can anyone help get this back on track??

  • Other users suddenly seeing my iCal calendars since upgrade

Since the new MobileMe calendar upgrade, my wife's login on the same computer sees all of my iCal calendars. She gets all the alarms and notifications I set for myself, which is a bit annoying for her. I do not have any sharing enabled either in iCal or in the MobileMe calendar interface. My calendars appear under the "<my_name>@me.com" heading on the left of her iCal window.
I have a full MobileMe account and she has only the "@me.com" email address but she uses iCal to sync with her iPhone. We've had this setup for years, since mac.com. Never had an issue like this before. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.
    Brad

Have you migrated your MobileMe to iCloud? If you haven't you need to go to http://me.com and do so now, and I mean now.
That done, the method for sharing iCloud calendars is described here:

  • Upgrade of OS lost some of ical calendar events

I upgraded my OS from 10.4 to 10.6.8 on my iMac core duo intel computer.  I have now lost a lot of events that were on my old iCal calendar.  I have lost a lot of my calendar events in the upgrade.  What happened and how can I recapture the missing events?

    Hello:
Did you make an archive copy of the calendar at any point?
If you did not, I suspect that they are gone forever.

  • How to fix a bug(?) in iCal/Calendar/Reminders?

The iCal/Calendar (fox OS X 8)/Reminders (OS X 8) app has this very annoying bug It's quite minor but it's quite confusing sometimes. Whenever I try to add a new event, the window that appears that will let me set the date, time, etc. always has 2011 (xx/xx/11) for the year. For example, if I want to set the event for July 29, 2012 ("07/29/12"), it still shows "07/29/11". I've been having this problem ever since I was on the iCal app on OS X Lion but now that I've just upgraded to Mountain Lion, the problem's still there with the Calendar as well as the Reminders app.
Please refer to the screenshot I included. You can see that I chose July 29, 2012 as the date for the Sample Event. But the date that shows on the "from" field is still 07/29/11. I don't know I they intended it to be like this but it is very confusing.
PS: The same goes if I add an event before 2011. If I, for example, add an event on July 29, 2010, it still shows "07/29/11".

  • ICal Calendars list blank, MissingSync, MobileMe issues

I'm using OS X 10.4.11 and iCal 2.0.5. I recently installed Missing Sync 6.0.4 for Palm OS (to sync with a Palm TX), so am finally actually using iCal instead of the Palm calendar. I also just got around to resubscribing to .mac (without realizing that I was doing so smack in the midst of the MobileMe launch). I'm listing all three of these questions together in case there's some connection -- most likely something connected to MissingSync or MobileMe setup.
    1. iCal was working fine for me, synched with the Palm via Missing Sync, etc., but now I can't see the list of calendars. I can see events in the calendar itself, color-coded for different calendars, but nothing shows up in the calendars list (left-hand pane). Any ideas how to get that list back?
And two other questions, in case anyone here has answers:
    2. Sent this query to Mark/Space (MissingSync) a couple days ago, but no reply yet -- when I sync Palm and iCal, events entered on the Palm do not get copied to the laptop. No error messages, and all else goes fine ... Events conduit is set for "Synchronize," "All calendars," and to put read-only events in "Unfiled."
    3. Sent this query twice to Mac's MobileMe help, but have gotten only a completely unhelpful form letter with generic links back ... (Yes, I realize their support people are probably utterly bogged down right now.) I used to have .Mac, but expired 1/07. Now have a .Me account. I can't sync at all, even just to my iDisk (let alone with my other Mac) -- .Mac in System Preferences won't let me set up Sync (when I click that tab, it "thinks" for a while, then get a "problem with the sync operation: .Mac login failed" error message). Specifically re: iCal: is there some workaround? Some painless way to sync iCal events to iDisk without a functioning Sync feature? I'm hoping the sync failure is just a temporary glitch, and not a sign that I need to upgrade to Tiger if I want basic .Mac-level functionality, but main thing is just being able to view/use my iCal calendars from my work computer!

Installation continues to degrade. On startup of the application, all buttons and controls are missing.
Closing and restarting iCal causes the buttons and controls to return, but all calendar entries are missing.
Restarting the computer causes the sequence to start again - controls are missing, restarting the app brings them back but then calendar entries are useless.
    Totally useless.

  • What do I do with my iWeb site on Mobile Me? The iCal calendar already doesn't work at the moment.

I am so behind the times....sorry.  I know Apple now has iCloud.  So where does that leave me with an iWeb designed website and it's hosted on mobile me????   The iCal calendar is already not working for some reason.  Is it true that the iWeb program is going away all together? Is there no way to transfer it to the iCloud?  Why would they come out with iLife 11 with iWeb if they have no intentions of continuing iWeb?????  HELP!!!!!  I have to make sure the site is active. Do I have to redo the entire frikin calendar on google?
    Some one give me answers...Thanks!

Well, it leaves you still being able to host your site on MobileMe until June next year.  iCloud and MobileMe will exist together until this time.  This gives you time to find alternative hosting for your site.
iCloud will NOT be providing hosting, which is exactly why Apple gave MMe users plenty of notice that this would be happening so that they could prepare and move to other alternative hosting.
What you need to do is have a look at web hosts such as GoDaddy and HostExcllence and purchase a domain name from them as well as hosting and you can upload your website here with no problems.  Either publish to a local folder or use the iWeb built in ftp to upload.
iWeb is an application and if you have it you can still use it.  It works with Lion and Snow Leopard.  No you don't have to re-build.  Continue to use iWeb.
Yes, iLife 11 was brought out, but did you not notice that iWeb and iDVD were not updated as part of this?  They upgraded GarageBand, iPhoto and iMovie but not the others, so even though it is iLife 11, it is still iWeb 09.
Your website will be okay hosted on MobileMe until June next year and after that you'll need to upload to another host.  iWeb will continue and you can still use it - you don't need to re-build all your sites.
