Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Then give it another go at upgrading.
P.S. Have any of those files been edited with Photoshop Elements or Photoshop?
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Unable to upgrade iPhoto after installing OS X

After successfully installing OS X i've been prompted to update iPhoto, however, when attempting to do so I receive the following message: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled". I have always used the same ID. Can you help explain how I can get this resolved as at the moment I cannot access the old version of iPhoto nor upgrade to the new version.

Have you upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks or an earlier MacOS X version?
If your iPhoto'11  came preinstalled with Snowleopard,  and has not yet been upgraded to App Store licences, by upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1, then you probably have the problem, that the conversion of the licence for boxed, preinstalled iLife apps is not yet well supported in Yosemite. It should have been done with the upgrade to Mavericks, that you skipped.
If that is the problem, contact the App Store Support using the link given in Niel's post.
Only Apple Support can sort out Apple ID problems for pairing apps with AppleIDs.  You will probably need redeem codes to be able to download the updates.

  • Problem upgrading iPhoto after installing Maverick

I just upgraded from OS X v10.6.8 to Mavericks.  I cannot upgrade my iPhotos (current version 8.1.2).  The general software updater doesn't seem to pick up that the software needs updating the 'update all' option doesnt work.  When I try to update directly from within iPhoto it tells me there is a new version which comes as part of iLife 11 but when I click on 'learn more' it takes me to the mac website  where i get a message 'Hmm, the page you’re looking for can’t be found'
I am concerned that this is not the only software which needs updating and is not being recognised.  Can anyone help with my immediate problem and the broader issue of how to check other software are not having the same issue?
    Thanks

You'd have the same version of Word since the MS updates update all MS Office apps.
The only thing that I can suggest is to take your question to the MS Office 2011 Mac forums -> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac.
That's where I'm headed to complain about my font problems!

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • I can't update iPhoto after installing yosemite

i can't update or open iPhoto after installing yosemite

Ok so here's what you gonna do. (had this problem myself today, and after some fiddling figured out what to do.)
Find your old iPhoto with a cross through it, right-click it and select 'show package contents'. A folder will open. In that folder go to Contents>MacOS and there will be three little things there. Click on the one called 'iPhoto' and terminal will open. Leave terminal open and wait four seconds and VOILA! iPhoto opens. Leave terminal open until you are finished with iPhoto, because if you close terminal, iPhoto will close with it. THX! ENJOY! Hope it works.
    P.S.
You can close terminal once you close iPhoto. I also suggest backing up your iPhoto library while you can.

  • Issues printing with iPhoto after installing OS X 10.10.2

After working with 2nd and 3rd level Apple Support I was able to print photos using iPhoto after installing OS X 10.10.2. I have an HP 7520 all in one ePrinter and the latest Yosemite driver have been installed. When I tried to print a photo using iPhoto the application would hang and I had to force quit to continue. Apple support was able to identify the problem. The iPhoto application had an outstanding print job listed in the Recent heading on the left side of the screen, I do not know how this happened, but after clearing out this print job I was able to print from iPhoto. The Apple Support person said I could avoid this problem by hitting the cancel button located near the print button on the bottom of iPhoto, after any print activity had finished. He said this was a known problem when using iPhoto and Yosemite.

    EW,
Kernel Panics here on the same model. My problems started after the recent Firmware Update for Airport and Airport Expresses (7.6). No other new software installed besides the Firmware Update and they are occurring daily.
I haven't seen any remedies yet....

This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled... this comes up when I go to update Iphoto after installing Yosemite... how do I fix this?

I have resolved this issue with the apple chat support by going to the "purchases" tab in the app store - where there was a message that I had to accept updates for the apps that wouldn't update.  Once I did this, signing in for each of them, they all updated just fine.

  • Should I trash iPhoto after installing Photo?

Should I trash iPhoto after installing Photo?

Should I trash iPhoto after installing Photo?
Why would you want to do that? You paid for it, and Photos cannot do everything that iPhoto can, for example add location data to photos or batch changing the titles. Don't trash iPhoto, before you have explored your migrated photos library thoroughly and are sure, that all photos migrated correctly, and before you have tested all features of the new Photos and are sure, that there are no hidden bugs on your system, that would require reverting to iPhoto until the bugs are fixed.  And even if you, be sure, to keep a backup of iPhoto and your iPhoto library - best make a bootable clone of your system. Better be safe than sorry.

  • I purchased iPhoto after installing Yosemite, but App store shows the download is "waiting"

I purchased iPhoto after installing Yosemite, but App store shows the download is "waiting", with a greyed out box that says pause.

    Hi exyankee,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, an app is stuck on waiting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

    HELP !!!
Did you upgrade to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 in Mavericks? Then updating to 9.6 may not work - it is buggy at the moment.
If you already own a version of iPhoto 9.x.x, but cannot update iPhoto, try to buy a new version.  When I look at the AppStore, the price has now changed to "Free", so it should not matter if you buy again or update.
Delete iPhoto from Applications, but do not empty the Trash.
Go to the first page of the App Store and sign in with your AppleID.
Search for "iPhoto" using the Search field.
What does the button below the iPhoto icon show? If it is showing "Free" like for me, click "free" to purchase again.

  • All of my pictures are gone from iPhoto after installing Yosemite..how do i get them back?

I have tried everything to get my pictures back after installing Yosemite on my laptop. Are they gone? Or is there a way to retrieve them?

Define "everything" because if you've tried everything then your last recourse is:
1 - restore your backup copy of your iPhoto Library created just prior to your Yosemite upgrade or
2 - Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
