Upgrading iWeb 1.1.2 to IWeb 09...will I have to create a new website?

Like many others I see here, I am suffering with the error msg's when trying to publish my website now that MobileMe is up and running - basically it is a blog-based site and I know that MM and the old blogs are just not getting along..... I am debating whether to even continue with my MobileMe subscription but that is another thread.....
If I can find a solution to my publishing issues and decide to continue with MobileMe and then I buy the new iLife 09 it seems like from what I have read that I will need to completely scrap my old website and rebuild it. Is this really true? And if it is, why would I buy iLife 09 and rebuild my site (not an easy task) when it seems like this same scenario might happen repeatedly on future upgrades?
I'm really confused and before I contact the 24 hour help thought I would post here to see if I can get some clarification.
Thanks in advance.

No. If you upgrade to 09 you would not have to re-build your site. iWeb 09 will be able to open your iWeb 06 built site - they are not backward compatible, but 09 should be able to open 06 without a problem.
Just make sure that you back up your domain files before you upgrade - so Home User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.

    Don't know why you would.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like.

I have an iMac with a Magic Mouse, if I want to upgrade my iMac to the OS X Lion, will I have to buy a Magic Trackpad?

Expanding on what Barry said, Lion includes features specifically for trackpads, but it's by no means necessary to have one. A Magic Mouse will work just fine (as will any other mouse or trackball).

  • I will starting afresh website in my iWeb, it shows only the head or the command line and the command new website is inactive - what do I need to start over

    Help........
I will starting afresh website in my iWeb, when I start the program it only shows the head or the command line and the command new website is inactive - what do I need to start over - what have I done wrong

Don't quite understand what you mean, but it says at the bottom that you are still using iWeb 08 so depending on what OSX you are running, you might consider upgrading to iWeb 09.  This works with Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
Apple no longer sells iWeb so if you decide to upgrade, then you'll need to purchase iWeb by going to Amazon and buying the iLife 09 or 11 boxed sets, both of which contain iWeb 09.
Install this on your Mac and it might solve your problems, or just ditch iWeb and start again with one of the newer programmes out there that are still being supported and updated, such as RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, Flux 4, WebAcapella 4 and EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

  • IWeb will not let me create any pages after installing.

I had a hard drive crash and upon reformatting and reinstalling iLife iWeb opens up, but the new page "+" is grayed out. I've tried closing and creating a new site, but I can't add any pages or see any templates. Disk Utility repair permissions was done and it came up fine so there's something wrong here and I'm not sure what.

OK the tips in the other posting didn't apply as the website did not exist anymore and I could not create a new website at all. I tried the iPhoto tip and that didn't work so now I'm trying the manual download of the update, but iWeb has already been updated so I'm not sure that will work either.

  • If I upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard will I lose my iphotos and itunes and files?

Extremely new here guys.  Like...I need spoken to as though I am 10.  (even though the 10 year olds in my life are much smarter on computers)
    Quick version:
    Ex had control of computer.
Think I solved problem but not so sure so I was advised to upgrade OS.
    Q:
    1. Will I still be able to log in under my user account(s) or do I have to create a new one?
    2.  Will I lose my files?  ( I THINK I did a back up on an external drive )
    3.  I'm pretty sure I will have a new itunes app and iphoto app.  Will I lose my old itunes music?  Old photos?
I will probably have a lot more questions.
    Please be kind

You do not need Time Machine but it is easy to use. Time Machine is integrated in OS X. You already have it and you don't have to purchase any additional software to use it.
The Western Digital My Book for Mac is an external hard disk drive. If you backed up your existing system using "clone" software then you have a backup. If you just dragged music files and photos to it that's a good idea, but that alone does not convey the ability to change your mind and easily revert to Leopard should you want to do that for whatever reason (you probably won't).
The My Book will work with Time Machine also. If you want to use "clone" software I recommend either of the following choices:
    Carbon Copy Cloner ($39.95)
    SuperDuper! ($27.95)
They are both far more customizable than Time Machine, but a new user may find the options confusing. On the other hand Time Machine has a user interface that consists primarily of this
... which tends to be difficult to misinterpret.
Each backup strategy has advantages and disadvantages. I use Carbon Copy Cloner and Time Machine. Their designs are completely different so using both conveys a high degree of redundancy.

  • Upgrade iWeb from 1.2 to 3.4 and now have subcategories on the site listed as websites??

I just updated my old iWeb 1.2 to iWeb 3.4.   I have been using iWeb for years very successfully but having to upload using CuteFTP has recently been challenging thus the upgrade.  Now in the navigator bar, my "albums" which contained photo's and info are now converted to separate "websites"  ?????   What do I do to get this back under a single website as subcategories/albums??
Help.   Been at this all day.  Tired and frustrated.

You don't have a separate website, but what you need to understand is that with iWeb 1 or 06 that you have just been using, you would have had to publish your site to your desktop before uploading with CuteFTP and what you can do when you upload is just to upload the contents of your site folder, however, when you switched to iWeb 09 that has the built in ftp function, it uploads the site folder too, so this is why - you don't have 2 sites but the subfolder name.
This is the way that iWeb will publish - when you publish to a local folder you will get a sitename and this is the name you gave your site in iWeb.  Lots of people do not like this, so have uploaded their sites using Cyberduck, but have just upload the contents of the site folder instead of the whole folder itself.  Unfortunately, if you use iWebs built in ftp client, then you don't have this choice and iWeb upload everything, so this is probably the problem that you are having.
The only way to fix it is to publish your site to the desktop again and then re-upload it using an ftp programme again.
It might also be time to look at new software - iWeb is old and no longer sold or supported by Apple and has not been for the last 2 years, so perhaps take a look at the many alternatives that are available such as RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux 4 and the most iWeb like out of all of them and new, having been developed by Rage Software, http://www.everwebapp.com.  Check it out and it will do everything you ever wanted to do in iWeb - dropdown menus etc., and more and it is very like iWeb in design and functionality and it also have SEO built into it too.
Suggest that you check it out.

  • IWeb is not working for sending podcasts to iTunes, so I need a new web building tool. What is the closest thing to iWeb that I can use, which also supports podcasts?

iWeb is not working for sending podcasts to iTunes, so I need a new web building tool. What is the closest thing to iWeb that I can use, which also supports podcasts?

There's no reason you can't go on using iWeb for this - with iWeb '08 you have to publish to a local folder (i.e. on your Mac) and then upload the contents of the folder (not the folder itself) to your hosting service: and you have to make sure you enter the new URL in the Publish information or the feed won't work properly; this done, an iWeb podcast should work fine.
Of course there is still the problem that iWeb is not supported and sooner or later a system upgrade may break it. You could look at RapidWeaver: you can make podcasts with that, though the last time I looked into that - which was admittedly some time back - I didn't feel it was ideal for this. There are lots of other podcast creation programs or services around. WordPress is OK but it may be a bit of a steep learning curve: Libsyn is an online service that seems to work reliably. Blogger writes messy feeds but does usually work. Podcast Maker used to work well - I used it myself a few years back - but it rather looks as if it's gone moribund and it may not be reliable with Lion/Mountain Lion, so you would want to check into that.

  • Iweb  FTP,Printing probems with Iweb .Pages to Web

I feel like writing Steve Jobs.Problems -I had Iweb 08 , upgraded to Iweb09 because of the press how FTP was solved. I cannot upload to my server. I have spent hours talking to Apple Care reps.I have tried several FTP softwares other than Iweb. One rep told me they do have a problem with FTP out of Iweb to Microsoft base servers.Solution given and tried - first publish to a folder on the desktop and burn a cd for the host provider.Does not work. Next publish to documents and burn a CD and still garbage on the CD for my host provider. I have images and get the message"can't create the file shapeimage- 2png and the results all my images that are referenced as Fig 1 and so on well the figures get place all over and not in the proper location on all the CD burnt. So I cannot publish to the host. Second as of today and after two hours talking to Apple Care with Iweb, I have lessons as lesson 1 2 3 and so on. Well the lessons show up in full in view , but when i go to print if the lesson is 15 pages it will only show 9 in the preview print window and only print 9 pages but viewing the lesson in Iweb all pages show up as all 15. I tried all the recommendations from Apple Care . They do not know why the problem exist. They said maybe with Iweb 09 they limit how many pages you can have in a text box? They have no written notes that this is the case though. I think the problem has to do with something related to in preview it shows the pages as being PDF now when it scroll through the preview showing the pages and maybe this somehow as a default will not allow printing all pages. So I have 15 pages to print out in Iweb and when I go to print it previews and stops at page 9, but the remaining pages still there to view in Iweb. Page allows me to send the info in Iweb out now but it excludes the images so sort of messy. It did not allow this s before . I upgraded to Iweb 09 and have Pages 08, and bet if I install Pages 09 I wont be able to send anything from Iweb to Pages. They do allow you to send information from Pages to Iweb so why not the reverse? My last though is to send from Iweb to Pages, do the massive amount of images again but in Pages and then can I send this as PDF to a Microsoft server and get my website up and running. The problem is not my host it is Apple. FTP does not work ? I have intel chips . Any way to exit Iweb to go to a Microsoft server some clever way here? The monster problem with Iweb is that if you want even a small business everyone has to have the same password so if you want access limited to maybe paying subscribers forget it . Everyone has to be given the same password access so they can pass the password around and every is there for free. Anyone know of a tag on product to handle E-mail password allocation instead of hiring a heavy PHP programmer?. Still going to have a host out of Iweb and this seems impossible. Any help from the knowledgeable - 25 hours wasted so far here.

I'm turning your post into paragraphs so I (and other peiople) can actually understand it:

So from what I can make out, your problems are:
    1. Uploading to FTP/publishing
    2. Printing
    3. iWeb and Pages use
    4. Password protection in iWeb
Ok, so for a website you don't want to be burning things to CD or converting a whole site into PDF format. You want individual webpages with proper formats. There's little point in exporting from iWeb to Pages because if you want the webpage info on paper, you print it. If you want to send it to someone, you send them your webpage address. (However, copying from Pages to iWeb is useful for easy publishing from existing documents or drafts).
Your print preview may be a problem, but as long as everything's printed it doesn't make any difference? Not sure what you're trying to say here, and not sure why you're printing webpages anyway? You can take screenshots of your webpage if that's easier.
It sounds like you are trying to cram far too much information in. Try uploading a very simple page with a couple of lines of text via FTP and see if that works. Which webhost are you using, or are you doing it all on an internal server? If you are, I recommend trying to use the web to upload something just to check.
iWeb isn't designed for businesses, and in fact is against Apple's terms of service. It sounds like you really need to employ someone who knows what they're doing. If you don't want to spend the money on a programmer, try hiring a couple of university students studying business/IT, or at least have a temp to consult and tell you what you need. It sounds like you've got yourself into a real tangle.

  • IWeb 09 won't open iWeb 08 files

I have iWeb 08 files I made using OS 10.5.8 that I can't open now that I've upgraded to iWeb  09 and OS 10.6.8. What's the deal?

    What happens when you try?
In the meantime try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.
