Upgrading Linux OS on OMS server

Hi all-
Our group is in the midst of migrating our Linux servers from RHEL 4.5 to RHEL 5. I'd prefer to do a clean reinstall, rather than an upgrade. So, what's the best way to backup and restore Grid Control? Can I simply backup the database, reinstall Grid Control (including the database, OMS and the agent) after the OS upgrade, and recover the database and be back in business? Or are there configuration details buried in the EM directory structure I also need to worry about (i.e, are there things not stored in the database)?
Thanks!
Rob

take a backup of everything oms,db,agent once the os upgrade done
restore the backup and start all the service, if every thing is fine then don't do any additional thing and in case some problem is there then mightbe you need to some relinking to make everything up and running but try relinking only once it required otherwise no.

  • OMS Server 11G issue

    Hi experts
I have installed 11G OMS on Linux machine
    database 11.2.0.3.0
when OMS Server communicates with Oracle Agents we get list of hostname in the main screen
We had issue with one of the agents on remote server and I deinstall and install the oracle agent
I manually deleted the host configuration and its dependencies from OMS console. but now I cannot see the hostname
emctl pingOMS and emctl upload agent works fine from the remote machine but somewhere I have missed something
when we try to add the host it display messsage
"You cannot add a host target from Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
To add a host target, install the Oracle Management Agent on the host computer you want to manage. When the Management Agent begins communicating with the Oracle Management Service, the Management Agent target and the Host target will appear in the list of targets."
could you share your thoughts on this config
    thanks

  • Upgrade to OS X Lion Server

I am currently running a Mac Mini server setup in a RAID-1 configuration.  I wanted to upgrade to OS X Lion Server.  I went  to the App Store, and found out that I need to purchase OS X Lion and OS X Lion Server to upgrade.  I made the purchase, and now, I cannot install the upgrade.  They system starts to install OS X Lion.  I get to the screen to restart, I get a message saying that the system is shutting down applications, and then i get:
An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM, and I got the same results.
I tried navigating to the DMG file, mounting the DMG, and running the install, and I got the same results.
What am I missing?  Is there some special item that I need to download, or a hidden step to take to upgrade from OS X Snow Leopard Server to OS X Lion to OS X Lion Server?

I had the same issue and I solved it with the following steps. Before you proceed connect an External SuperDrive to your Mac Mini, create a full backup of your system and read carefully the following manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/lion_server_upgrading_migrating.pdf
    1) In your OSX Snow Leopard installation, go to System Preferences to perform a software update check.
    2) Buy and download OSX Lion (and OSX Lion Server if you have OSX Snow Leopard Server) from App Store, after download do not proceed with installation.
    3) Make a bootable OSX Lion Installation DVD performing these steps:
3.1) Go to the Applications folder and locate the Install Mac OS X Lion package, right-click the package and choose "Show Package Contents".
3.2) Go to the /Contents/SharedSupport/ folder and locate the InstallESD.dmg. Use Disk Utility to burn this image to DVD.
    4) Reboot the Mac Mini holding the "C" key at startup and proceed through the installation process steps, when you are prompted to choose where to install OSX Lion, select the RAID volume. An alert will appear to remind that some features will not be available if you install OSX Lion on a RAID Volume, choose "Continue" to proceed.
    5) After the installation process, during which the Mac Mini reboots at least twice, log in with your credentials and go to System Preferences to perform a software update check.
I've tested it with Mac Mini Server and OSX Lion 10.7.3 Installation Package and it worked.

  • Oracle 9i patches for linux 4.0 Advance server

how do i download the required patches of oracle 9i for linux 4.0 Advanced server. I am 9i oracle certified professional. Currently I am not working. how it is possible for me to dowload pathces through www.metalink.oracle.com or is there any other way to get that.
    Thanx in anticipation.
    REKHA BHANDARI
    OCP (9i) - DBA

As far as I can tell, the only way to patch Oracle installations for security or flaw updates is to hand-deliver bags of cash to Mr. Ellison. I was excited to see that they now offer a free developer license for the initial install, however, developers need to work with patched versions as well to ensure compatibility.
To anyone at Oracle that may read this: Is there a way for developers to download security and flaw patches without using Metalink? If Metalink is the only option, is it still out of the price range of non-corporate or government entities?
    Thanks,

  • Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server

    Hello Experts,
I have never done a BOBJ install before and I have some questions:
First, here is our setup: Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server
    1.     We are being asked how big u2013 disk space- to make the server. All I can find is 14 GB for an English only install, there is no documentation on how big the databases need to be. Does anyone have any experience and can tell me how big the databases are going to be initially? I need to tell the server team how much space to put on the server.
    2.     The documentation says to have two databases or schemas, one for Central Management Server and one for the Auditing Data Store. My question around this is whether there is a preferred way to do it, separate databases or separate schemas?
    3.     The documentation does not say anything about the file system layout, do we need to create the standard SAP file system layout (i.e. /sapmnt, etc.)
Many many thanks in advance, any advice would be a greate help .. please help
    Regards,
    Sunil Patel

    Hi,
    here are some answers:
    1. Well for the Installation of the Software as itself (not the databases) i would recommend at least 30 GB. All the Reports are getting stored physically in the installation directory. This behavior is by default. Later you can move the FileStore (where the Reports, Universes, etc. are located in) to a NAS share f.e.
With Regards to the Databases i would recommend 1 GB for the CMS DB and 5 GB for the Audit DB. It depends on how you Audit your System. If you audit more actions, more information in the Audit DB will be stored.
    2. 2 Schemas on one DB is fine
    3. Usually you run a BOE installation on UNIX/LINUX under an installation user. BOE will be installed into his Home Directory.
    Regards
    -Seb.

  • Em12c changing oms server hostname - after install

I installed em12c R2 on a server with an incorrect /etc/hosts file. This has meant it has picked up in the configuration files the incorrect hostname.
Is there a straightforward way of changing an oms server hostname after install?
    jason.

Depending on what you have configured, the steps are a bit different. Basically you need to backup and restore your configuration.
Follow the steps to completely backup your env (OMS, swlib, Repository, Agent, Inventory) for safe keeping. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/ha_backup_recover.htm#autoId4
Export oms config --> key piece here!
Screenshot the OMS agent targets for validation later
Shutdown OMS agent and remove agent targets/host/agent from EM (as these need to be renamed and restored as well)
    Shutdown oms
Validate your DNS/hosts file is correct before proceeding!
Then you will follow one of the recovery steps documented (as the software restore portion is not required) - for example single oms, no slb, same host - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/ha_backup_recover.htm#autoId15
    Recover agent
Check agent targets, may require refresh of WLS Domain to get all targets in correct status again
I have a document on the detailed steps I'd be happy to share. Please email me...

  • HT201364 Xserve (Early 2008) with Snow Leopard 10.6.8: How far can I upgrade ? Can I upgrade to an OS X Server version? Is any OS X Lion version compatible?

How far can I upgrade ?
Can I upgrade to an OS X Server version?
Is any OS X Lion version compatible?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • I want to run linux directly on ultraSPARC server t4.

I've been used to linux for a long time now and now i need to work with the UltraSPARC t4 server which has solaris on it. So, i am thinking of maybe removing Solaris and running linux directly on the server. But I'm really curious to know about the virtualization technologies that would be available if i run linux directly on the t4 server. And which of them serves better compared with the VM Server for SPARC and containers ? Any help will be appreciated..

While there are versions of Linux for SPARC available, currently none are "qualified" by Oracle. You are certainly free to run any OS that you wish, but running an unqualifed/unsupported OS may prevent us from giving you service in the event you have any issues.
Currently, the Sun System Handbook lists the following OS's as Qualified/Supported.
    Oracle Solaris 11
    Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 Update 10 (U10) - pre-installed
    Oracle Solaris 10 09/10 (U9) plus Oracle Solaris 10 08/11 SPARC Patch Bundle *
    Oracle Solaris 10 10/09 (U8) plus Oracle Solaris 10 08/11 SPARC Patch Bundle *
Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.1
    Electronic Prognostics 1.2
    Oracle Solaris ZFS
Your best best will probably be to run either Oracle VM or Solaris as your Host OS, then run whatever else in VM's.
Specific configuration decisions will be up to you, but feel free to Open a Service Request (SR) if you need more help.

Once I upgrade Developer 6i on the server side, I need to bring Developer 6i on windows platform (used for development) to same version level. My understanding both have to be in same version.
What the patches I need to apply for Developer 6i Windows?

You need to install Patch 18 for Windows.

I've checked the PKGBUILD in /var/cache/aura/pkgbuilds and everything looks fine....
why is the input/output getting redirected and how do I solve this issue??
It seems to me that there are some new options which aren't in the previously configured pkgconfig, if this is the case how do I select the new options?
Of course I can build linux-lqx manually as I have done initially however, I would like to use Aura as it makes life much easier :-)
    Thanks.

Using "makepkg" works no problem like I explained previously.... but that means manual download of the tar.gz file then compile and install.
I was really hoping for Aura to automate things to make life "sightly easier".
Aura is pretty good with everything else, including install/upgrade but just getting this to work.... if not then fine no worries but would be nice if it did work :-)

  • Upgrading Linux  OS with E-Business suite deployed

We have a Redhat Linux AS 2.1 with E-Buisness suite 11.5.9 deployed. We want to upgrade Linux to version 3 or 4. How can we do it?
Can we just stop the Apps services and upgrade the OS and restart the Apps services? or Will it work with cloning method?
    Thanks in Advance

    Definately relink everything.
    As oracle, cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    relink all
    As applmgr,
    cd $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/bin
    ./adlnkiAS.sh
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    ./adlnk806.sh
    adadmin
relink executables for all product groups
This is also a good time to upgrade to DST compliant JDK (5.0 is the latest).

  • [SOLVED] Upgrading Linux 3.0.7-1 - 3.1-4 Breaks Wicd

As the subject points out, upgrading Linux from 3.0.7-1 to 3.1-4 seems to break Wicd on my laptop. When I do this, no wireless networks show up and if I plug in ethernet, I cannot connect to it either. I solved the problem by blacklisting the wicd daemon, unblacklisting the network daemon, and uncommenting interface=eth0 in /etc/rc.conf, then rebooting, downloading the older kernel (3.0.7-1) which I had unfortunately deleted from /etc/pacman/pkg, and downgrading with pacman -U. I wonder if anyone else had similar trouble with this update....
    Last edited by tony5429 (2012-04-05 07:43:37)

Can't connect to anything with Wicd anymore either.
    Using testing with:
Atheros Communications AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 Gigabit or Fast Ethernet (rev b0)
    Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100
WLAN networks will still show up and apparently connect — LAN ones won't — but Wicd fails to retrieve a IP as all dhcp clients consistently time out.
Manual connection (dhcpcd for LAN + wpa_supplicant for WLAN) works just fine.
edit: Doesn't appear to be caused by that kernel update on my system, though.
edit2: Apparently Wicd's configuration files — which had worked perfectly for months — somehow turned insufficient. I had it create new ones and now it works again.
