Upgrading Mail in Lion hung up

Just installed Lion on my 2010 Macbook Air. All is working well except the Mail upgrading process seems to be hung up and not progressing. What is the solution?

I figured out a way to do this just today.
Open your Mail Preferences and click Viewing.
Choose Classic View
Now, under the View menu -> Columns make sure Date Sent is selected (if it wasn't already.)
For each mailbox you want to change, click on the Mailbox and then click on the Date Sent column to sort it.
You can go back into Mail Preferences and turn off Classic View and your sort preference will be retained in the new Lion layout.

Upgraded to Mountain lion but Mail won't work

I was having problems with my email so I figured I'd upgrade to Mountain Lion (I was on Snow Leopard) and that might fix it.
Installed it and when I launch Mail it tells me it needs to import my mail.
It goes through a whole process about 4 minutes long and then tells me the upgrade failed.
"An erro occurred during the upgrade. Click Continue to launch the Mail Import Assistant, which will help you create a new library and import your existing messages"
O.K., sounds good.
Except when I click Continue I get an alert saying "Your Mail Index has been damaged. To repair it, quit Mail. Mail will repair the index the next time you open Mail. Your mailboxes and messages will be preserved."
Liars!
When I click the Quit button, I'm back to square one and the whole thing starts all over again.
I don't even see a Library folder now on my hard drive, but it's got to be there somewhere, right?
I would just pull off the old Mail folder and copy it to an external drive and try and import from there but I can't even do that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found my old mail ( did a search and got an alias icon which I clicked on and it took me to a folder I could not see otherwise) and tried backing it up onto my exteranal. The copy failed at the offending corrupted file. I moved it to the trash and launched Mail again. This time the import went flawlessly. Hurray for me!

Lost mail after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Hi, new to this forum, but I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the previous version and seem to have lost the last six months mail (Mar 2012 to the date I upgraded in Nov 2012). I have found all the old mail folders, notes, etc, and imported them based on directions from other threads, but this period still remains lost for incoming and outgoing mail. I was not backing up to iCloud and it seems that the back ups I had been doing manually were not picking up recent mail. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I have not found this mail anywhere on my hard drive and can't understand why only this period of time is missing. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

After starting, Mail answers are very very slow. The same for Note. Instead of, sending mails is only a bit slower than before upgrading.
In Safari, I choose Goggle as starting page in Preferences, but at every restart misses that starting page and the search strip says "Seek Google or instert an address".

i just want to mention that the samw thing was happening also for the notes and the reminders apps!! (they quit unexpectedly!!).

The OS on your Mac has nothing to do with behavior of email on your iPhone. The only thing I can imagine is that Mail on your Mac may be receiving messages and marking them as "read" before your iPhone has a chance to receive them. What kind of email account are you talking about here!

First, select sender(s) as VIPs. Then the VIP category will appear.
To select a sender as a VIP, open an email from that sender, then hover over their name and a star icon will appear to the left. Click the star, and that sender will be set as a VIP (and the category will appear in the pane on the left).

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I can't delete/move emails using Mail app

I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and having problems with my Mail application.
The long and short of it is that I cannot delete or move emails from my Inbox. When I select an email in the preview panel and delete it, it disappears, but when I select the Trash folder, it isn't in there. And when I go back to my Inbox, lo and behold, it is back there again, as if I had never deleted it. The same holds true when I try to move an email from my Inbox to one of my iCloud folders.
Emails come in to my Inbox just fine.
And I am able to move emails from one iCloud folder to another, however.
And I do not have this problem when I access my email via Iphone, ipad or icloud.com. In fact, when I delete an email from my iphone, it gets deleted from my Inbox on my Mail app.
I looked in Mail Preferences, and I have one Account set up: iCloud IMAP. Is that right? I use me.com for my email.
Any ideas here?

This means that at some time you had the iWork ’09 trial installed. You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Mail sorting problem after upgrading to Mountain Lion?

I have a strange problem with Mail after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Before upgrading, when I tried to search my Mail Inbox for e-mails from a specific sender, the esearch results would be indexed by the name of the sender. For example: when I entered 'John Smith' in the search box in Mail, it would display a list of email from 'John Smith'
Now after upgrading, the same query indexes the search results by the 'To' address i.e. my email address.For example: if my name is 'Steve Johnson', a search for 'John Smith' in the search box in Mail displays a list of email to 'Steve Johnson' and not from 'John Smith' which is how it used to display before.
My emails are sorted by Date always, and I am using the default Mail view [not classic view]
Can someone please help with a fix for this to help me get back to the original display I had while searching? Thanks in advance.

Mail has no access to contacts anymore since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I can´t access any addresses from within mail. But my contacts are there in the Contacts app.
How can I re-link mail to the contacts app??

We'll, I made a clean install of mountain Lion. And then I took the chance to sort out which apps I really wanted to have on my Mac again. And then I reinstalled them. Most of them I had to just copy from the backup drive back into my apps folder. Others had to be really installed. All my files and docs were back in just a moment. And since I kept the same structure, even my Dropbox files didn't have to be synced up again, but Dropbox checked it and it was all good.
I think the whole procedure took me about 2 hours of time, but in the end I cleared a lot of junk out I didn't use anymore anyway and I had a functional Mac.
That's it.

Mail issues since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Today I've upgraded to Mountain Lion. When I opened mail my (serveral) hotmail accounts didn't work (kept 'offline').
Got this message: "Mail can't connect to the account ***@live.nl"

I already tried to check the settings, (yes, I also used google) but they seem to be correct:

Now I've deleted all the accounts to completely reconfigure them, but this didn't work either.
I didn't have this issue in Snow Leopard, and 'cause I use my email accounts a lot it would be nice if it could be fixed asap..
Also, only the icloud email seems to work properly, gmail, exchange (Microsoft) and hotmail (live.nl as well as hotmail.com) don't work.
Please help me..

Jeez.. It's annoying. I've tried reinstalling it, yesterday, but I also restored all the backup from TimeMachine, I just didn't want to go through all the setting up of preferences and applications again just because of this single problem. But it was all to no avail.
I guess after all I'll have to start from scratch. =(

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion autocorrect in Mail has stopped.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion auto-correct in Mail has stopped working. I deleted com.apple.mail and reinstalled Mail, based on other's suggestions. At that point auto-correct in Mail began working. However, when I did that I began getting invalid certificate errors and outgoing mail stopped on my major email account, which is unacceptable. So I reversed that "fix" and replaced com.mail.apple with the Mountain Lion version of that file and the errors stopped. However, auto-correct stopped working again as well. Help!

While composing a message, do this in Mail's menu:
Go to Edit > Spelling & Grammar > Correct Spelling Automatically and check that row.

I upgraded to Mt. Lion and now I have duplicates in notes and contacts on my iPhone 3gs. Is this a sync issue? I have 4 e-mail accounts and the iCloud is one of them.

Maybe my title says to much. I have multple contacts, notes, sometimes just two, sometimes 14. I upgraded to Mt. Lion and that may be an issue or maybe syncing is the issue. It is making me crazy/er! I have 4 e-mail contact lists and that may be part of the issue with e-mail but why duplicate notes? I am stumped. Please give your thoughts for a solution. I have deleted the duplicates from iPhone (3gs, iMac, and iPad2).

I forgot to say that the duplicate entries return after I have deleted them. Strange to me is why do some contacts show up as many as 14 times. I am suspecting that there could be an issue with iCloud or iTunes. Truly a mystery to me for now.

How do I change my apple id on iPhone4 in iCloud? In mail, contacts the apple id is correct and matches my new apple id. I had to change my apple id when I upgraded to Mountain Lion in order to have calendar, contacts and other sync with iCloud.

How do I change my apple id on iPhone4 in settings/iCloud and settings/mail,contacts,calendar? iCloud does not sync with my iPhone4. iCloud syncs fine with my iPad and my iPad has the new apple id in settings/iCloud. I had to change my original apple id when I upgraded to Mountain Lion in order to have iCloud sync. iCloud does not sync with my iPhone4. My iPhone4 settings/iCloud shows my original apple id and will not allow me to change it.

To change your iCloud ID you have to delete the account, then sign in with the alternate ID. Before doing this, if you want to keep your data and move it to the new account, go to Settings>iCloud and turn each of your synced data to Off, and when prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone. When everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account, the sign back in with your other account ID and turn syncing back on; when prompted, choose merge.
If all your data is already in your other account then you don't need to do this. Just delete the account from your phone, selected not to keep the data, then sign into the new account, turn on data syncing and if prompted, choose merge.
