Thanks for your assistance.
Hi,
I have had a similar laptop and you could upgrade to a Core i7-840QM but it's not a cheap processor and won't bring much performance for the money. I have replaced the hard drive by a solid state drive and that made a visible performance upgrade. There won't be much to upgrade except this.

  • Guitar Rig/ Rig Kontrol problems in Logic Studio

I have recently upgraded from Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio. I never had any problems until the upgrade but now my Rig Kontrol 2 refuses to work claiming...
"The device 'RigKontrol2' could not be set up by the driver. This can be caused by bad USB connections or insufficient power on the bus."
I am using a USB direct from the back of the mac (and tried new leads) and have updated the drivers to the very latest version but nothing is working. I can still see Guitar Rig as an option amongst my inserts but as soon as I plug in the RigKontrol then ALL of my inserts blank out and no sound is output at all.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Many thanks Nick.

My only idea (and this comes from being an owner of Guitar Rig 2 w/ the Rig Kontrol for ALMOST two years now) is that the Rig Kontrol is a faulty piece of equipment. . . period. I regret purchasing it more than any purchase I've probably ever made. It was so faulty w/ Logic 7 and Pro Tools that I was like, screw this, and put it away in a closet and have never touched it since. The GT2 software is FANTASTIC. . . don't get my wrong, I love my Guitar Rig software, but the Rig Kontrol is a piece. NI's support for it is pretty poor too. It's probably just some kind of issue between Logic 8 and Rig Kontrol, however, try going into Audio/MIDI setup and getting it to recognize through there.
My advice would be to just ditch the Rig Kontrol.

  • Dv7-2270US CPU UPGRADE

Hello, i own this laptop and im thinking of upgrading the cpu. From HP manual i found that the max proccessor i can install is q9100. But from intel's chipset webpage i found that for my laptops chipset maximum proccessor is QX9300 and also q9200. Both of them are quite much stronger than q9000 and especially qx9300 very close to last generation i7 for laptops. I cannot afford buying a new laptop so thats why i want to upgrade. My current rig is Q9000, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD , and 1TB HDD
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Not only is it possible that the QX9300 won't work, it is likely that it won't work. While the chipset may support the CPU, if the supporting electronics and BIOS haven't been engineered to handle the QX9300, it isn't going to happen. Sorry, but there are no overclocking options in the BIOS and overclocking isn't supported by HP laptops.

  • Considering purchasing PTHD rig +Apogee converters...best way to connect

    Hi,
To all you out there who have a PTHD rig and use Logic Pro8 on it:
I am going to upgrade my PT / Logic rig this year, and I want to see what the best option is as far as the hardware.
I have decided on getting Apogee AD16X and DA16X as the front end to a PT HD system.
    The question is as follows:
Can I use a Magma Chassis to hook up the PTHD cards to a Powerbook Pro thru the ExpressCard?
Or should I instead buy a Tower?
The reason I ask is that IF I use the Magma chassis, then when I am only mixing on Logic, I can get rid of the chassis, and hook up the Apogees through the ExpressCard slot with their own card.
This will help me when I have to go mix elsewhere.
    Cheers

    Hi Neoplease
I don't know if this will help you but look at it
    http://www.magma.com/products/pciexpress/expressbox7/pdf/EB7Specs(70-02360-35-A).pdf
It seams that you need a connector from the chassis to the express card. This may be the one.
When Logic pro came out I did hook it up with my PTHD but Logic could only import and work with mono files. So I gave it up. Me no like.

  • Mission Control causing Lion to crash.

    Hi all,
hopefully someone can help me out.
I installed Lion soon after it was released on my work computer (I know, I know) anyway, every time I launched Mission Control it would flash a grey screen and log out. I even lost some work - really annoying.
So I backed everything up and did a clean install, thinking that the iteration of Lion I had installed over top of Snow Leopard was maybe corrupt somehow. I began to reinstall my most critical apps and a few system tweaks that I use, and I've noticed that using Mission Control now is still causing all kinds of problems. I guess I can just deactivate it, but it's hella annoying and I'd really like to get to the bottom of the cause. I've done some troubleshooting and removed some things but have not been able to isolate the problem. I've looked through the console, but not being super fluent in consolese have not located the clear culprit.
I have a feeling it's a graphics card issue, but I'm not sure, and if it is, I have no clue how to fix it.
Below is the console log from the time Mission Control is activated to the crash. Hopefully someone out there can decipher this and give me some insight as to what is the issue. Thanks!!!
(By the way, I'm running a 24-inch, Late 2006 iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128 MB, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.)

it looks like the GPU is kinda screwed up. I found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2268642?start=0&tstart=0 that discusses replacing the graphics card. Looks like this http://www.macpalace.com/mac-parts/p/661-4180-card-video-nvidia-geforce-7600-gt- 256-mb-vram/ is about the best price ($229)I can find with a quick search, so it's either:
    a) leave it as is and not use mission control and wait till I can afford to upgrade to a new rig
    b) spend $250 or so with shipping and do the replacement myself, and hope that fixes the problem
    Hmmm.

There hasn't been an "Xtras" folder for QuickTime since the last Classic update. It is not used or found in any OS X version.
Sounds like very old software on that CD. See if you can dig through the CD using the Finder and try opening the QuickTime file found on it.
Your Pro Tools software is also very out of date and may not work correctly with QuickTime 7.

  • Plan for editing rig to learn Premiere Pro, AE & Photoshop

I am building an video editing rig to learn Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop with a view to producing web based corporate videos and some project ideas I’ve had percolating. Original video will be shot DSLR & GoPro. ‘Back in the day’ (think  1” & Betacam SP tape…), I produced broadcast quality corporates,  TVCs and TV programs, but that was before raising kids and a spouses’ career took precedence. Money is tight (divorce & still raising 5 kids), so I plan to build up my editing rig in stages. I’ve built a few low to medium spec gaming rigs, so initially to learn the software, I’ll upgrade one of the gaming rigs to minimum editing spec (Version 1), then upgrade a bit further to a Version 2 rig, and if things pan out as planned (and I can start earning a more little income), I can then justify the investment in a proper workstation based around a 3930K CPU or whatever its equivalent is then.
    Existing mid spec gaming rig:
    CPU - 2500K
    Mobo – ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
    RAM – 2 x 4GB 1600Mhz
    GPU – HD7850
    C: SSD – SanDisk Extreme 120GB - OS & Programs
    D: HDD 1 – 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 - HD103UJ 7200rpm - Users
    E: HDD 2 – 2TB Seagate Barracuda - ST2000DM003 7200rpm - Media
    PSU – HX650W Corsair
Mid Tower Case with front USB 3.0
    OS Win7HP
Version 1 Editing Rig basically takes the Gaming Rig, replaces the HD7850 with a GTX 660 to take advantage of CUDA, as OpenCL does not yet seem to offer as much performance advantage as CUDA. I’ll also upgrade the RAM from 2 x 4GB to a 2 x 8GB kit and add 2 x 1TB 7200rpm HDD in Raid 0 and a Cooler Master Hyper 212X to keep things temps down, as I plan to OC the 2500K.
    Version 1 Editing Rig:
    CPU - 2500K
    Mobo – Asrock Z77 Extreme 4
    RAM – 2 x 8GB 1600Mhz (G.Skill Ares F3-1600C10D-16GAO)
    GPU – GTX 660 (Gigabyte GV-N660OC-2GD)
C: SSD – SanDisk Extreme 120GB - OS, Programs, Pagefile
    D: HDD 1 – 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 - HD103UJ 7200rpm – Media, Projects
    E: HDD 2 – 2 x 1TB Seagate – ST1000DM003 7200rpm - RAID 0 – Previews, Media Cache
    F: HDD 3 - 2TB Seagate Barracuda - ST2000DM001 7200rpm – Export, Backup of raid
    PSU – HX650W Corsair
Case: Mid Tower with front USB 3.0
    OS - Win7HP
Version 2 Editing Rig adds a 3770K CPU, Windows 7 Pro and another 2 X 8GB RAM to total 32GB. Around this time I also plan to add a 27” WQHD IPS monitor.
    Version 2 Editing Rig:
    CPU - 3770K
    Mobo - ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
    RAM – 32GB - 4 x 8GB 1600Mhz (G.Skill Ares F3-1600C10D-16GAO)
    GPU – GTX 660 (Gigabyte GV-N660OC-2GD)
C: SSD – SanDisk Extreme 120GB - OS, Programs, Page File
    D: HDD 1 – 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 - HD103UJ 7200rpm – Media, Projects
    E: HDD 2 – 2 x 1TB Seagate Barracuda – ST1000DM003 7200rpm - RAID 0 – Previews, Media Cache
    F: HDD 3 - 2TB Seagate Barracuda - ST2000DM001 7200rpm – Export, Backup of Raid
    PSU – HX650W Corsair
Case: Mid Tower with front USB 3.0
    OS - Win7Pro
I’m still a bit confused about hard drives…
The motherboard has 4 x SATA3 ports – 2 on the main chipset, 2 on ASMedia ASM1061. My connection plan is  C: SSD (OS, Program) and E: HDD 1 (Media, Projects) on main chipset SATA3 ports and E: HDD 2 RAID 0 (2 x 1TB Previews, Cache) on the 2 ASMedia SATA3 ports. Volume F:  HDD 3 (2TB Export, Backup of Raid) would be connected via SATA2.
Currently here in Australia the prices for Seagate 7200rpm ‘Barracuda’ drives are approx.:
    1TB $70
    2TB $100 - $50/TB
    3TB $140 - $45/TB
For $140 extra I could swap the 2 X 1TB drives for 2 x 3TB drives, drop the 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 and have:
    C: SSD – 120GB - OS, Programs, Page file
    D: HDD 1 - 2 x 3TB Raid O – Media, Projects, Previews & Media Cache on the SATA3 ASMedia Chipset
    F: HDD 2 – 2TB – Exports, Backup of Raid on main SATA3 chipset
I’m not sure which HDD setup would give a more responsive system and whether it’s worth the extra cost, given my current restricted budget... Currently I’m leaning towards just setting up what I have and revisiting it when I upgrade to the Version 2 3770K based rig.
Thanks in advance to the Adobe Forum Community and Harm & Bill @ ppbm7.com for helping me get this far.
Any feedback on any aspect of my plan is much appreciated!

Managed to scrape together a  few more $$, upgraded PSU, RAM & HDD.
    Current spec is:
    CPU - 3770K
    Mobo - ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
    RAM – 32GB - 4 x 8GB 1600Mhz (G.Skill Ares F3-1600C10D-16GAO)
    GPU – GTX 660 (Gigabyte GV-N660OC-2GD)
C: SSD – SanDisk Extreme 120GB - OS, Programs, Page File
    D: HDD 1 – 3TB Seagate Barracuda - ST3000DM001 7200rpm – Media, Projects
    E: HDD 2 – 2 x 1TB Seagate Barracuda – ST1000DM003 7200rpm - RAID 0 – Previews, Media Cache
    F: HDD 3 - 3TB Seagate Barracuda - ST3000DM001 7200rpm – Export, Backup of Raid
PSU – 850W Silverstone ST85F-P Strider Plu, 80Plus Silver Cert.
Case: Mid Tower with front USB 3.0
    OS - Win7Pro
I still have a question about Disk Setup…
    My plan was:
    1 x 3TB - Media, Projects – Sata3 (Intel chipset)
    2 x 1TB - Raid 0 - Previews, Media Cache - Sata2 (Intel chipset)
    1 X 3TB - Exports and Backup – Sata2 (Intel chipset)
I just read Harm's clarification on the http://ppbm7.com Tweakers page that the drive setup should be 2 x Raid 0, which I had previously read as 2 drives in Raid 0 but now think should be two volumes, 4 drives. I could put the 2 x 3TB drives also in Raid 0 on Sata2 Intel and buy another 3TB drive for Backup  on SATA3 (ASMedia chipset) of the two Raid 0 volumes.
Could I ask what you guys believe would be the most efficient allocation of file types across these volumes?
I’m guessing the following, but would value your feedback
    2 x 3TB Raid 0 – Media, Projects,
    2 x 1TB Raid 0 – Media Cache & Database, Previews
    1 x 3TB Export, Backup
    Many Thanks!

  • Mac Pro 2.66 ghz, Intel Core 2 duo Upgradeability

I want to purchase a 2.66ghz Mac pro, now in my price point, but want to know if I can upgrade the Procs from the TWO Dual cores to two Quads to make an 8 core sometime next year. Can the existing MOBO handle this upgrade or do I have to replace it?

    I've been lurking around
Haven't seen you around these parts lately. Hope that rig is smoking fast! and I suppose you'll sell again in a year when there are more "mature" systems (the next update will likely come someday but be a stepping stone).
The new rig is definitely faster even with day-to-day operations (no doubt from the increased HD speed, RAM, and 2.66-3.0GHz speed of each core). When I crunch video or do heavy multitasking is where the difference is definitely noticeable, though!
I'm not going to upgrade the upgrade when the next processor comes out, only because everything i read indicates 10-15% tops speed increase over what I have now. That's nothing like the 50%+ I got over the quad in rendering. I -will- try to get the next video card option as an upgrade kit, however, if it is offered. I like the 1900xt, but wish something even faster was available for Motion rendering.
And you're right about selling next year I try to keep upgrade after every major revision because the cost to do so is so small at that moment.

  • Help with system upgrade for CS6

Hello. I am hoping you can give me some advice on what to do (or buy) to improve my video editing system.  I am a bit of novice when it comes to the technical/hardware end of things and I’m having some issues with my current system.
I working in Adobe CS6 Master Suite on a Windows 7 Ultimate PC.  I mainly use Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Audition.  I create very complete animations and videos with many layers and effects (via Boris & Red Giant).  I also use Skype to record group video calls (with the program Evaer) for a reality T.V. recap show which I also edit with my Adobe suite.  However I have two main problems.
When I render out a 20 minute premier pro project (with several HD video layers and effects) it takes almost 13 hours.  It seems like this is very long considering my high end components, and set up.  For example I run ONLY my OS off an SSD.  My programs are on another SSD.  The files I use for the video are on another HDD, and I render to another HDD.  I was told by keeping all the aspects on separate hard drives it would speed everything up.  Is that true?  I also am now reading that rendering to a SSD would speed things up.  Should I consider changing my workflow/hard drive set up that way?
My other problem is that when I record my Skype group calls of 4 people (with Evaer) to my SSD the audio is always off when I bring it into Premiere.  I don’t know if this is a problem with Evaer, a codec (it records it as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Codec.  At 1280 X 720 and 30fps), that SSDs auto compress files, or that my system just cant handle it.  Plus Soundblaster & Nvida both seem to active as audio features on my system I don’t know if that effects anything.  Is there any advice any of you have on this issue as well?  Perhaps another program to record skype or group calls?
Finally… all that aside.  Considering the work I am doing should I just upgrade my system to a better Mobo and graphics card.  I see a lot of people are recommending a dual processor work station.  If so what is a good motherboard, and processor(s) I should get if I build my own workstation?  I have about $4000.00 I could invest in building one if you think would greatly improve my work flow and render times.  I also have a quadro k5000 on the way, and id like to be able to use the memory I have already.
I realize I am asking a lot of questions.  I would truly appreciate any help, advice or just a point in the right direction.  I have included my current system specs below incase that helps with any of my questions.  If you have any other questions or need more information just let me know.  Thank you again in advance for any help you can provide.

    Eric,
I would hardly call the Quadro card an upgrade to a GTX 680!
Regarding getting more speed from a faster MB / CPU, since you already have a 6-core rig with 24GB of RAM I would think that any gains you would get would not be that dramatic.
Check out your cpu usage (Task manager) and see how busy your cores are during a test render. I am guessing that the Boris and / or Red Giant effects could be jumping your projects from gaining the full multi-core capabilities of the Adobe software.

  • CPU Upgrade on Satellite L30?

Tried searching but didn't get an answer.
Bought a laptop from ebuyer the other week, and so far so good, but good do with a bit more juice.
Currently running a CoreDuo 1.73 processor, wondering if Core2 or something a bit better will suit.
Heard something about a bit of softawre i'd need?
Could some one a) inform me what processors work
    b) what i need to do to go abuot it

    Hi buddy,
believe me, it would be better to buy a another L30 with a better cpu or another toshiba notebook with a better cpu than trying to upgrade your machine.
Some arguments whys not good to do it:
    1. Its too complicated for if youre not at least a technician which is familiar with MOBILE COMPUTER SYSTEMs because a notebook is not the same electronic like a desktop.
    2. How do you know which component fits? You have to find out the RIGHT partnumber of the manufacturer, otherwise you will have the wrong part and every manufacturer has its own hardware design and its own way to put components together. (like cpu, ram, bla...its not like you mean everything common like a desktop computer)
    3. too expensive vs. performance gain = you would not really achieve a huge performance gain. Not the one you expect. I am telling so many users my experiences with trials of upgrading core components. I am a technician but even for me it does not make sense anymore to upgrade a cpu in a notebook. I tried it with 4 (!) machines, and two of them have now defective mainboards. And dont forget what I told you: I am working as a computer technician and I repair almost all brands which arrive our service center.
So, please forget your idea, upgrade your RAM and your harddisk and otherwise buy a new machine if youre unsatisfied with the actual performance of your rig.

  • TDM Digital Input not working in LP7 after upgrade?

I ran my first session today with LP7. I opened a version of a song I was working on in LP6. I have all of the DAE DTDM and Dig hw settings the same as in LP6. All of the tracks ply perfectly and no problems with plugins. When I went to record the vocals, the track I was using showed input and the waveform drew normally as expected. Of course I didn't listen back and went on to record 4 more passes of the lead coal to comp later. As the singer was leaving, I decided to play back the last take. To my horror; there was nothing on the track except digital noise full to 0db. My assumption was that it was some kind of digital clock sync issue with the 192. Checked HW settings and everything was set properly. Using AES input as clock sync, recording to AES 1-2 inputs just like in LP6. When i went to the screen that sets up the clock synchronization, it was set to digital. I changed it and then changed it back and a dialogue box opened and said that my clock source need to be set to digital. It was already set to digital AES1 1-2 enc. Has something changed since LP6? Thanks everyone for all of the help these past few days. I though this was going to be a simple upgrade...

***, BWF?! Guess I'm falling behind, had to google that stuff!
Yeah, I had the feeling it could be about wav. Guess I've always been hesitant with wav. files on mac's. Have no problems playing them back though....
Now, to ESB distortion. You really shouldn't have this. What PT/Logic config do you use? I'm running 10.3.8/PT6.9cs1/LP7.1, a pretty stable config and my esb distortion is long gone.
But here's a little procedure I had to do and it has been very successful on other rigs I helped out with as well:
    1. Archiving and trashing ALL Prefs (yeah, you've heard it before but bare with me), Logic and Digi. Make sure you don't have any LAP 6 pref's either, there is one under system's preferences as well.
    2. Restart the computer
    3. Start Protools, set the playback engine to match your hardware and workflow
    4. Quit PT
    5. Start Logic-it will ask you if you want to run the setup assistant, say yes.
Now, be meticulous with your settings so it matches PT's playback engine.
    6. When you're finished, open "Audio Hardware and Settings" and check the DAE's settings - it's probably not set to what you chose (bug?). Correct that so that, once again, you are matched with the PT playback engine.
Finished! (Well, apart from importing your KeyCommands from the old pref.)
Since I did this I've been more or less clear of issues, and it serves as an alternative to rebuild my autoload. Kind of...
Sorry if this is obvious, it's just that I know power users rarely go near automated "assistants" and I think there is a point in doing so since LP7.
I think Apple is putting power into such features, and this has surely helped my and a couple of other rigs.
There is ofcourse another reason for esb distortion and that's "dodgy" AU's.
I know that both Stylus RMX and Reaktor are very sensitive in DTDM environments. There is a certain logic to that, since they both are capable of handling huge amounts of files/computation.
    Anyway, best of luck!
    /Erik

  • Time to upgrade...need advice

Ok. I've had Vista for more than 3 years now and while it works great for me, maybe I'd like to upgrade everything and move on to Win7-64bit. I'd like to keep my mobo, which I love, but I was thinking of increasing RAM to 8GB, changing my hard drive, putting in a 5870 or 5970 (I would also change the PS of course--1000w+), and maybe the processor as well. What would constitute a great upgrade for a processor, according to the one I currently have? Check my specs, please advise. Thanks in advance.

Any of the dual core CPU's with Level 3 cache will run rings around any CPU that you can put on your current MB. Cost of my rig would be about $815 USD buying parts at newegg. That would exclude the WD 250 and Maxtor 80 which are my old drives, the 500 is the new one. Also exclude the ODD you see in this rig in price mentioned, that price has extra $25 added in if I would have bought a new ODD.
In other words the price shown would be the Elite 330 case & added 2nd fan (fan $7), MB, CPU, RAM, VGA card, PSU, WD 500GB HDD, CM 212+ cooler and not purchased but to keep an honest price for a complete build $25 for ODD was added in. That is for sale prices and any rebates also so price could vary due to that. For performance it is much better than the P45 Platinum/Q6600 rig prior to this one.
To compare with HU16E's WD VR this is 100GB partition with the OS I ran the bench on. Similar results were found with ATTO and HDTach.

  • Made HDD, Battery and case upgrades to my ipod video 5th Gen and now I am told "Connect to your computer.  Use iTunes to restore."

I have a 5th Gen iPod Video that I have had many years now.  It has worked faithfully until about 2 weeks ago and the HDD totally died on me.
So I decided to upgrade from a 30 to 60 gb HDD, replaced the battery for the appropriate HDD and bought a new back shell for the unit.  I made incremental installations as parts arrived.  First the HDD itself and the next day the battery.  Both went in with no problem and I have been running them in a jerry rigged case (basically the 30gb back case has been taped together to make sure it was going to work OK.  I have been taking it to work with absolutely no issues, great response and great battery life.  Synching is fabulous.
Here is the issue, I hope this makes sense...
Today I received my 60 GB silver back cover and moved all of my parts over.  It seems to fit fine.  Headphone jack is working fine.  However, now the hold button is unresponsive (which is not a big loss to me but still just so you know).  I can play music and I can sync.  However, if I restart the unit, or I try synching a second time, I get screen saying "Connect to your computer.  Use iTunes to restore."  It does not matter if I snap it shut or leave the case loose, this happens.
I have this error until I open my case up again and do nothing else.  At that time, the error goes away, and my ipod is fine again.  Then, the screen comes back after restarting to a normal boot.  But, if I sync or restart without doing anything else, we go through the motions again until I open the case back up.
I have disconnected the battery as well as the HDD, but still have the problem.  I have also disconnected the cable coming from the hold button/earphone jack to the M/B,
Has anyone else ever experienced this issue or have any suggestions.

Shouldn't you contact the vendor or person who sold the back cover?  At the very least, it has a Hold switch that doesn't work.
This web site has repair guides
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
and they call it "Headphone Jack & Hold Switch"
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod+5th+Generation+%28Video%29+Headphone+Jack+%26+H old+Switch+Replacement/604
Under Relevant Parts, they seem to list separate parts for the thick and thin back cover.
On a side note, another way to fix your iPod is to use a compact flash card instead of a hard drive.  This web page has details
    http://www.instructables.com/id/Convert-your-5th-Gen-iPod-Video-to-use-Flash-Mem or/
Then, you can use your existing thin profile back cover that works.  I replaced the hard drive in my 4th gen iPod with a CF card.  Currently, it is only 8GB, but with lower prices these days, I may soon upgrade it with a 64GB CF card.  But it works great with the 8GB card.  The iPod is noticeably lighter.  There is no hard drive spin-up delay.  The battery lasts longer per charge.  And it is no doubt more shock-resistant.

  • The plug-in named "Guitar Rig" isn't available on your system.

Hi, I have recently upgraded from a powerbook G4 to an iMac i7. I my new iMac, I bought the new version of Guitar Rig 4 and installed it. On my old Powerbook G4 I had Guitar Rig 3 installed. My problem is, when I open a Garageband file (ones that utilized effects from Guitar Rig 3) from my old mac on my new i7 GB gives me the message "The plug-in named “Guitar Rig” isn’t available on your system". Shouldn't the guitar rig 3 plugin effects I used on my old mac work fine as guitar rig 4 effects on my new mac? Since they obviously don't, is there a way to import my guitar rig settings and plugins from my old mac to my new one so I won't lose the GR3 effects that I used on my Garageband in my old mac? Please let me know if there is a way to do this, as it would be a huge pain to go through all my garageband files and re-tweak the plugins to get the same sounds I had on my old mac. Thank you very much for any help you can give.

no way I know of other than install GR 3 on the new one too.

  • Disappointed by upgrading to Z from Recon 3D

i'm a long time user (actually i've never used another sound card) of sound blaster products, and i was quite happy with the experience i had as a enthusiast/gamer with a Recon 3D a while ago. I built another rig about a year ago, decided to upgrade to the newer Z, and everything had been going well up to about 2 months ago. My sound is absolutely unacceptable, and I have no idea what changed. Being a techy person, I tend to be very careful about things and know when i make changes. nothing significant had changed to my system during this time when things went strange.
basically i went from having fantastic sound to in games having sound that was seriously different than it was before, and only coming out of 2 speakers. i've tested the speakers, turned off all sbx pro studio options, which i had used successfully before, and only then could i hear sound from all 4 speakers, but it was not quality at all.
as soon as i returned to windows (8x64) from the game, i was back to having sound in only 2 speakers! i tried the multiple tests and could only get 2 no matter what settings i made. everything is plugged in correctly at the back and into my 5.1 surround speakers - nothing has changed, but yet the sound has. for example, i sometimes will hear sound when surfing the internet or a youtube movie, sometimes i will not.
i have reinstalled the drivers, and re-seated the sound card, to no avail. even did a complete fresh install, nothing different. so no old drivers, etc.
so i am thinking of going back to where i purchased it a memory express in canada to see if they can figure out what the heck is going on. my computer was great, but now sounds awful... so i'm really hoping the Z can be replaced or something can be done. i think i'll go back to my recon 3D which worked great. hopefully i'm not the only one experiencing some strange issues.
just out of curiousity i see two possible manufacturer product numbers on the box:
    - OB ON 06SB150000002 Rev A
    - FG PN 70SB150000000
in the case of the first number, is it possible i have an older version of the model SB1500?
thank you for any assistance. i can provide more information if necessary.

thanks again for helping me out so quickly jmacguire, much appreciated!
well i took the sound blaster z out of my rig, and down to Memory Express where i purchased it, and have an extended warranty - they popped it in one of their computers and right away noticed it was only producing sound out of 2 channels no matter what settings they used as well, so they gave me a brand new replacement to try.
i immediately put it in my rig when i got home and without changing anything, i instantly had sound coming through all of my 5.1 speakers
so i guess in the end it just turned out to me a faulty board. i'm very happy again, as i can hear the amazing sound in all its glory through ALL speakers. sounds fantastic! i am not disappointed at all - this clearly is better than the recon 3D
    consider this case closed.
thank you so much jmacguire, i really appreciate your help!
