Upgrading nokia 5230 to Firmware 2.0?

I recently got a new Nokia phone! It has the firmware for v.12.8.095 When I run the Nokia Software updater it tells me that my firmware is up to date. How can I upgrade to v 2.0?

It simply means the update is not available for your phone's particular product code.
Reasons why a phone cannot update:
1. It is a country variant - country variants often get the updates later, or have updates skipped altogether. A Turkish country variant product code for example, skipped v40 and updated from v31 straight to v50.
2. It is network branded - phones acquired from network providers or these providers' stores SIM free are branded, and will not get updates until the networks approve and modify the updates to their liking.
3. Special editions - These special editions are chartered editions and may never get updates unless taken to a Nokia Care center.

Firmware upgrade Nokia 5230 - SLOW device!

I see that the device 5233 had an firmware upgrade availibe from 12.1.089 to 12.1.092. This upgrade is now not availible for the nokia 5230. This device is much slower than the 5233 and 5800.
Is there a way to make this upgrade also soon availible for the nokia 5230? Because this device has now only the firmware version 12.1.089

try to uninstall them and re-install on memory card not phone memory
it's the reason if you installed these apps on phone memory
+ change the messages to be stored on memory card not phone memory

Problem upgrade my 5230 to firmware to v40

I have a 5230 and I think the latest firmware is v40 but Ovi Suite and Nokia Updater both think my 5230 with firmware v20 has the latest firmware. How can I upgrade mine to v40? thanks

BTW the version must be available in the USA as per this Nokia USA Site..

Many people have reported that their phone crashes when they do this upgrade. Once you upgrade your firmware, you can't get rid of it.
Nokia care centre will not help you unless the phone is in the warranty period. If you can't find your proof of purchase, you will have to pay to get your phone fixed. This is true because this is what I've been told today, by Nokia New Zealand. I tried emailing the care centre and talking to their 0800 call number.
All I was doing was following the suggestion to upgrade from PC suite. Nice way to lose customers, Nokia!

The 6234 is a variant of the 6233 dedicated to the Vodafone group, and as such its firmware is Vodafone variant.
It is not Nokia's fault that operators insist on interfering with the software on phones in order to promote their own brands and services!!

Nokia 5230 display distorted!

After updating to the Nokia 5230 latest firmware version (V21.0.004), whenever the mobile receives a new SMS or call the display is showing up distorted (Snapshot included as attachment, take a look!). This is happening randomly may be every 4 out of 10 occasions. Not just when receiving the call or SMS but also when i activate the touchscreen by touchin it for performing any task. I have to either lock & unlock the touch pad to regain the display or wait till the mobile goes into standby after light time-out.
Is there any option for me to revert back to the recent old firmware version (V20.0.005)?
How to get rid of this? I already tried reinstalling the latest firmware again twice but to no avail. This is the first time such an issue surfaced in my mobile usage.

Hi, unfortunately it is not possible to roll back to earlier fw.
If you've tried to reinstall the fw, there isn't much more to do other than take it to a Nokia care point as this seems to be a fault only they can repair.
I've seen quite a few posts on this matter, and some of the users reporting such faults happened after changing their displays themselvs voiding their warranty, earlier (before updating). I'm not saying that is what you've done, but just to let you know.
The " funny" thing is that this thing seems to happen often while updating, so it could of course be software related.
If youre up to it, you could perform a soft reset to clear your phonememory and start out fresh, but it's unlikely that this will helps. If you choose to do so, you will have to back up whatever you need from your phone memory as this manouver wipes contacts, messages, apps installed on the phone memory etc.
If not, you will have to see a nokia care point, and you probably have to do it anyway!

Nokia 5230 Lock issue

I am using a Nokia 5230 with firmware version 20.0.005. Recently I have unsubscribed my data plan and deleted all the access points in the Connectivity settings. The issue started to happen whenever i locked the phone and after some time the Select connection message comes up. I am not able to unlock the screen when this message is shown and the only solution is to remove the battery and insert it to make the phone accessible. Recently I also changed the setting of MMS connectivity and S/W update to manual, but the problem still exists. Have any one faced this issue and please let me know if there is a solution. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!
Although you would need to backup essential data first, you could always consider resetting device to "out of box" state by keying in *#7370# on dialler followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself).

Nokia 5230 - Wish List for Next Firmware Upgrade

I'm using Nokia 5230 with the latest firmware, V 12.0.089.
The following are my wish list for the next firmware upgrade:-
1. Messaging > Sent Items: Please include short cut icons to Forward, Create New and Delete as in Inbox.
2. Log > Recent calls: Unnecessary option for Call > Voice Call.
3. Settings > Personal > Themes > Call image > Theme image: A bug with certain 3rd party theme (e.g. JustBlack - 5th theme). During lock mode, screen is totally blank during calls & alarms.
4. Settings > Application mgr. > Installed apps.: Too much application will cause an error of "Application Manager Memory full" and auto exit when selecting "Option". During error, phone memory is around 25MB, Memory Card is around 2.5GB/4GB.
5. Ovi Map > Drive / Walk > Set Destination: Please do an icon based UI for History, Favourite, Search & From Map. The list is to small to click on to (when driving) :-)
6. Organize > Please include multiple selections. E.g. Mark/Unmark > Mark / Mark All. Easy to move multiple applications at once to any folder.
That's all for now i guess. By the way, Nokia rocks!!

Nokia 5230 firmware upgrading to Belle went wrong

I was trying to upgrade firmware to Belle on my nokia 5230. After upgrading my phone won't turn on there was white screen and blinks. Phone still not turning on please help anyone!!!

Nokia 5230 Firmware 20.x.x.x Issues

I am currently in possession of a Nokia 5230 purchased on Jan 2010 loaded with firmware 11.0.079 . I recently came across a slew of articles regarding the restarting defect caused when ugrading to firmware 20.x.x.x .

As of now I have no problems whatsoever in using my phone (except using the mailbox though) and my phone never restarts. Is it advisable for me to upgrade to the new firmware or abstain away from doing so. And as mentioned by other users Nokia Support dosen't seem to be very helpful in this regard.
If anybody has any idea over this issue please advice.

i m currently using 5230 with v20.x.x, (came with v12.x.x) and i never had the "restart defect" on v20.x.x, actually its a lot better/improved then v12.x.x. in many areas.
from my experience, i would recommend you to update to v20.x.x. but decision is yours.

Availability of updates depend on Product Code and Region.. also if the phone is Network locked. the update is possible only after an approval from the Operator...

Downgrading Nokia 5230 firmware?

I downloaded and installed the latest 20.0.005 update for my Nokia 5230, and it offered nothing in the way of performance gains and new features, but instead slowed the device down and removed the ability to skip through more than 4 songs per use.
Is there a way to downgrade from 20.0.005 to good old 12.X.XXX?

It isn't possible to roll back firmware updates. I would suggest you try the *#7370# reset which I would recommend doing after firmware updates. Remember to backup your data.

Upgrading Qt in S60v5 (nokia 5230)

Hi all, I want to install WikiOnBoard (from the Ovi store) which apparently needs Qt 4.7.3. Having googled a bit, it seems that Qt is a minefield/nightmare of incompatibility and poor documentation. I'm hoping that someone here can shed some light.
The phone in question is a Nokia 5230, firmware vers 50, with an older version of Qt (v4.06) installed. This was originally installed manually following instructions and download links from Nokia Beta Labs when installing the Nokia Wellness App. SInce my phone is PAYG, I'd prefer to avoid a data download (Nokias preferred method of installing Qt, it seems).
So, my questions:
1) Is it possible to install Qt 4.7.3 to a S60v5 device? Some sites seem to suggest that it is incompatible.
2) Is it possible to manually download and install the Qt 4.7.3 components, and if so where from?
3) Having once installed, is it possible to uninstall Qt 4.7.3 from a S60v5 device? Again, some sites suggest you can't.
4) Will installing Qt 4.7.3 break previously installed Qt Apps?
Nokia sure do like to make it hard to install stuff... Anyway, I'de appreciate any help or advice that people can offer. I've searched the site, but been unable to find any coherent answers. Thanks

5230 after firmware upgraded bug

I use nokia 5230. after I updated from 12.0.089 to 20.0.005. I feel better on dragging menu icon, faster and wider screen web browser, more stable music player. but I found some bugs that:
1. When I opened web browser for 3-4 pages with music player and then went to menu(all programs still opened) screen still show contact bar and menu's icons didn't showed.
2. Programs installer are much time freezes if open after downloaded from web browser immediately.
3. Sometime menu icons don't responded espectially specially the Application icon and Log icon
4. Phone lock slide bar sometime vibrate agaist the slide but sometime not.
Before I upgraded, all of them never shown until it.

Nokia 5230 firmware

can anyone answer this for me? i have a nokia 5230 and it says on the nokia site that fw v40 is released however when i go into ovi suite or sowtware updater on my phone it says it is the latest version. what is wrong? or should i be getting on to my operator about this?
