Upgrading OEM GC 10.2.0.4 to 11.1 on SPARC.

Is the forum an appropriate place to post an exhaustive installation document list (from support.oracle.com) with an extended list of steps? Steps for SPARC include most everything from JDK/JRE 6u18, Web Logic Server 10.3.2, Database 11.1.0.7 pre-req check to the runInstaller for OEM 11.1.

  • Upgrading OEM

    Hi,
Looking for tips and best practices for upgrading OEM 10.2.0.1 to
10.2.0.5 on an 8 core Sun v490. It's currently monitoring about 60 hosts
and 140 databases, some of which are critical production systems. I want
to keep the down time to a minimum. Does anyone have an idea of how much
down time is necessary to perform such an upgrade?
I've thought about installing anew on a 2nd host and migrating the
monitored hosts one by one to the new OEM but there are very many
firewall considerations in my environment and that itself will become a
large project. Do you think this is the best approach?

Its very simple and straightforward .
I did a similar upgrade in the past and It will take near about 4 hours. We had approx 1000 targets monitored by that.
Also take full backup of OMS/repository database before going ahead. And also stop all the agents before the upgrade otherwise you will get thousands of alert once the upgrade will be complete.
    Also check
Checklist for EM 10g Grid Control 10.2.x to 10.2.0.4/10.2.0.5 OMS and Repository Upgrades [ID 464674.1]
Also tell, whats the current agent version ?
You can upgrade agents later on and this can be done bunch wise. You can go mass agent upgrades also.

    Hi Arvind,
Since I'm not a license expert, for the OEM license issue, I would like to recommend you can connect the vendor.
In addition, I found a similar discussion of upgrading with OEM licnese for your reference:

  • Questions regarding upgrade OEM repository db from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.1 in

    Hi All,
Since we installed 10g grid control in window 2003 server the oms and agent have been upgraded to 10.2.0.5 see below:
    D:\Oracle\Ora10g_GC\agent10g\BIN>emctl status agent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 5 Grid Control 10.2.0.5.0.

    Agent Process ID : 2460
Agent is Running but Not Ready
The repository db (in the same server) stayed in 10.1.0.4 so we were trying to upgrade this db. The following is the step we did:
    1)     installed oracle 10.2.0.1 in a new oracle home.
    2)     Configured listener from this new database using port 1522
    3)     Ran pre upgrade util: utlu102i.sql
    4)     Ran dbua from new oracle home
Looks like the upgrade is successfully run except EM configurations.
Step Name                                      Log File Name                   Status
    Pre Upgrade     PreUpgrade.log     Successful
    Oracle Server     Oracle_Server.log     Successful
    Oracle Workspace Manager     Oracle_Server.log     Successful
    Post Upgrade     PostUpgrade.log     Successful*
    Enterprise Manager Configuration     emConfigUpgrade.log     Failed*
    Generate Summary     generateSummary.log     Successful
    My questions are:
    1) What does this failure mean?
    2) How can I fix it?
Thank you so much for your help in advance,

Thank you very much, Werner, for your response.
We don't have a file called "emConfigUpgrade.log" in the server. Under %ORACLE_HOME%\cfgtoollogs\dbua there is file called "emConfig.log" which has the following content:

    I have another question:
Since repository is now in a new home and the new listener is also use a different port the targets.xml file under agent home is not correct any more. So I used "agentca -d -f" to recreat targets.xml file. After it finishes I looked inside the targets.xml file it still use old repository home and old port number. Do I need to do anything before run agentca?
Thanks a lot for your help,

  • Windows 10 Upgrading OEM isn't working

becuase you have to do an inplace upgrade from windows 7 , 8,or 8.1 to windows 10 with the original os activated (7, 8,or 8.1) Before you can do a clean install of windows 10 after you have done that you can then do a clean install and skip the key part and it will auto activate after install

So, I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO because I wanted to install it and take a look at it on a spare machine. But when I enter the license key from the sticker on the machine, it tells me it's wrong. I figured I'd probably rebuilt it with a different recovery disc and it's actually installed with a different license key. I checked Belarc, and, indeed, a different license key is on there (which could be part of the problem, wanted to check first before I start searching for different recovery discs for a matching key) which I tried, and, again, it failed. This machine was on the domain but I removed it to try to get the windows 10 upgrade icon to show up but it doesn't. I have verified that the necessary updates are installed. So, any thoughts on why the ISO, which I created with a build tool from theaddress below(32-bit) isn't accepting...

  • Acrobat 9 upgrade from OEM Acrobat 6

I've used Acrobat standard in my business since v4.0, and upgraded once to v5.05. I am now migrating to a new WinVistaUltx64 system, and find that Acrobat 5x-8x are not compatible with Vista.
In order to reduce my costs, I am thinking of purchasing an OEM full Acrobat v6 Standard and Acrobat v9 Standard retail Upgrade. I expect to be able to install the v9 upgrade on my Vista system, using the installation CD from v6 as legacy verification for the v9 upgrade. The OEM v6 will not be installed on the Vista system. I have done this previously when I upgraded to a full retail v5 from a full retail v4, but not from an OEM version. Can anyone with more experience with Adobe Acrobat upgrades advise me of problems I might encounter in this scenario?
I know that OEM versions don't come with support options, but I have upgraded OEM OS versions to retail versions before, and support became available with the retail upgrade. Will support be attached to the Acrobat v9 retail upgrade, if I am upgrading from an OEM version?

You have to update to at least AA8.1.2 to use VISTA and 64 bit systems. I think that version will do it. Of course at this time, AA9 is what is available anyway. AA6 does not run on VISTA as far as I know. Be aware, if you do forms you need to upgrade to a PRO version. It is best to think of Std as an economy version. It left a lot out that users of AA4 and AA5 came to expect.
AA6 works fine on XP. Even AA5 works fine on XP, at least it does for me. I use AA8.1.2 on VISTA Business and AA7 on an XP tablet. As for the OEM upgrades I have no clue to help you. As far as I know, the upgrade will be to the full product. I do think that if you upgrade, the previous version that the upgrade was based upon is not supposed to be used any longer. You did not mention that scenario, but just one aspect to consider in case you had been thinking it.

  • Install OEM 10.2.0.1 and upgrade to 10.2.0.3

    Dear all,
I want to install the latest version of OEM 10.2.0.3 on Linux RedHat 4. However, after downloading the OEM 10.2.0.3 and reading the release note, I realized that the download is just the 10.2.0.3 upgrade patchset. I have to do a fresh base installation of OEM 10.2.0.1 first. Is this correct?
After installing OEM 10.2.0.1 with an existing 10.2.0.1 database, I need to upgrade OEM 10.2.0.1 to OEM 10.2.0.3 using the patchset I downloaded. Because both OMS and AGENT will be upgraded, I am not sure what installation destination I shoud supply? OMS_HOME, or AGENT_HOME, or just a new home for upgrade? What are the required steps to upgrade OEM 10.2.0.1 to OEM 10.2.0.3?
Are there any documentation or articles that I can follow to do the upgrade?
    Thanks a lot in advanced.
    Xiaoping

    Hi!
When you start upgrading your products, you are asked for the "Installation name".
Imagine that the installation of the entire product is divided into 3 parts:
    a) Database: db10g (the Installation Name)
    b) OMS: oms10g
    c) Agent: agent10g
Then, to choose the perfect directory to upgrade the product, you must choose the installation name from the menu. If you select agent10, the final path is going to coincide with the original.
Do this for the OMS and the OMR.
    Greetings.
    HeCSa.

There is a README.txt file in the 10.2.0.3 patchset zip file that has the instructions for upgrading 10.2.0.1 OEM to 10.2.0.3.
You download 10.2.0.1 separately which delivers a 10.1.0.4 database. Apply the one-off database patch to the db10g 10.1.0.4 Oracle Home via opatch, then use runInstaller to upgrade to 10.2.0.3 via 3731593. You can optionally create a db10gr2 10.2.0.1 Oracle Home, apply the 10.2.0.3 patchset then run dbua to upgrade the 10.1.0.4 repository database to 10.2.0.3.
You probably would have had fast response posting to the Enterprise Manager Grid Control forum:
    Enterprise Manager
    2. Fresh Installation of Enterprise Manger 10g Grid Control Release 2 and upgrading it to Release 3
In order to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 3, you must install either 10.2.0.1.0 or 10.2.0.2.0 Grid Control environment. This section describes steps to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 3 environment starting with 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows) install
2.1 Install Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2
Installing 10g Grid Control Release 3 requires any previous releases of Grid Control, that is any 10.2.x.x.x installation, and upgrade to 10.2.0.3.0 release. If you do not have a previous release, but want to have a 10.2.0.3.0 Grid Control environment, then first install 10.2.0.1.0 Grid Control (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows), and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.3.0. Start with the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 Grid Control media pack (DVD) and install 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows)
    - Insert DVD into your computer (note: It is better to copy the DVD contents to local hard disk for faster performance)
    - Run runInstaller (setup.exe for Windows) to start installation
    - When asked for "install type" option, choose "Enterprise Manager using New Database" option
    - Complete installation as per install guide
Important: For information about installing 10.2.0.1.0 and 10.2.0.2.0, refer to the installation guides available at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html
    2.2 Apply required patches
In the case of Grid Control environment installed via "Enterprise Manager using New Database" option, repository database version is 10.1.0.4.0. Before upgrading to 10.2.0.3, apply the patch for bug 4329444 on the Database Home. In order to apply this patch for the Solaris platform:
    - Copy the p4329444_10104_<platform>.zip file from the DVD to any directory on the host which has the repository database running on.
    - Unzip the file using following command:
    $ unzip p4329444_10104_<platform>.zip
    - Follow the instruction in 4329444/README.txt to apply the patch
For more detail on this, refer to the release note.
2.3 Install Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3
2.3.1 Copy the p3731593_102030_<platform name>.zip patch set installation archive from the DVD to any directory on the host which has the Oracle Management Service running on it.
    2.3.2 Perform the installation
    - Enter the following command to unzip and extract the installation files from the downloaded image described in section 1.2:
    $ unzip p3731593_102030_<platform name>.zip
This extracts the files to the "3731593" directory.
    - Navigate to the 3731593/Disk1 subdirectory
         $ cd 3731593/Disk1
    - Set the ORACLE_HOME variable to the Oracle Management Service(OMS) oracle home.
    - Execute the runInstaller (setup.exe for Windows)
         $ ./runInstaller
The upgrades process then upgrades the Oracle Management Service (OMS), Oracle Management Repository and the Management Agent on the same host as the OMS to the latest Enterprise Manager 10g release 3 version.
Important: The same Patch Set can be used for patching OMS,Repository, and Management Agent. For more detail on installing the patchset, refer to the release note.
2.4 Optional: Upgrading Repository Database to 10.2.0.3
If you installed Grid Control 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows) via "Enterprise Manager using New Database" option, your repository database version is 10.1.0.4. In order to upgrade your repository database to 10.2.0.3, follow the steps below after upgrading your Grid Control environment to Enterprise Manager 10g release 3.
    a. Upgrade the database to 10.2.0.1
    b. Install 10.2.0.3 database patchset

  • Premiere Pro 1.5 OEM to Premiere Pro CS4 upgrade non-OEM?

According to Adobe customer service chat, I was told that the serial number of my Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 is an OEM version. I purchased it on eBay. Adobe informed me that is not liscensed to anyone and is not registered.
Adobe told me that when going from OEM to the Premiere Pro CS4 upgrade CD, my Premiere Pro will no longer be the OEM version.
    Is this true?
Also, I am able to upgrade OEM Premiere Pro 1.5 to non-OEM CS4. Anyone have experience with this?

You may have to first open the old project on a PC, as there was no Mac version for 1.5.

  • At what point must EMCLI clients be upgraded?

    Greetings,
I am upgrading to OEM 12c using the 2-System method. The installation of the Repository and OEM is complete, I believe I have completed the necessary setup steps and am attempting to upgrade the agents using the Enterprise Manager 12c Upgrade Console.
I have chosen one agent to upgrade and navigated to the Deploy and Configure Agents page and selected one agent I wish to deploy and configure. This is where things get confusing.
Under agent credentials I have chosen to use Oracle Homre Preferred Credentials and to Override Oracle Home Preferred Credentials choosing the Oracle user.
Under Run Privileges I have chosen None and SUdo trying with either Root or Oracle.
On the next page under Root Credentials I have entered the Root username/password and the Oracle username/password and tried both None and Sudo. When choosing Sudo it seems that root is the only option.
I then submit the job and it fails I have seen errors, either
ERROR: NMO not setuid-root (Unix-only) or
SUDO not present on agent https://<hostname>:3872/emd/main
I have been searching but yet to no avail. I have seen reports indicating that one should “Use credentials, selecting sudo gave error ‘sudo is not present’”. I also found something indicating that it is necessary to use emcli in order to set up sudo but it is not clear to me whether I must do this from the existing OEM or the upgraded OEM and if the emcli clients must be upgraded prior to deploying the agents.
I have found the instructions and download page in the OEM 12c console but am still not clear as to whether this is in fact required. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

If you are using option: Use Oracle Home Preferred Credentials then use have to set the oracle home credentails in EM using emcli first. Since in 10g or 11g we neverhad oracle home credentails you cannt use UI do it .
Else use the Override Oracle Home Preferred Credentials and enter one set of credentials that can be used for all Oracle homes. Run Privilege section, by default, None

  • Windows 2008 R2 OEM to Volume License change after p2v.

Did online search and even called Microsoft licensing, got very confusing and different answers. So posting here.
P2V'd a HP server running 2008 R2 Standard (64 Bit) , everything went smooth, after 2 weeks server is giving "Build 7601, the copy of windows is not genuine. The Product ID reads : 00XXX-OEM-8XXXXXX-1XXXXX
Our company does have volume license keys and my understanding is that we need to give one to this server. Can I just change product key and activate using new volume licensing key ?  or do you I need to do a repair- as I read in most cases with win2003.
    Called MS:
1st Support Agent : Go ahead, change product key, reboot and give us a call to reactivate.
I asked for another confirmation and was transferred to tech support
Tech Support: Give us your name, number etc., we need to open a ticket, charge $259 or let me transfer you to volume licensing.
2nd Support Agent: We recommend a clean install for any volume licensing changes. Kept repeating it x 10.
me: This is a production server, I cannot do that, its too late, sorry.
he: Ok, then  go ahead and try to change the key and see if it works.
me: would it break anything or any risk
he: Not sure, as we recommend a clean install is recommended for any Volume License.!
Please advise if anyone has come across upgrading OEM to Volume after p2v. thanks

    Hi Karma,
For the license issue after P2V, the thread may be helpful for you:
    Licensing OEM servers after P2V
In addition, if you have further concerns about licensing, I still recommended to contact
Microsoft Licensing specialist for better assistance.
    Best Regards,
    Anna Wang
Thanks for your suggestions. But the threads are too long to read for a simple problem with a simple solutions.
Here is the solution for anyone looking, Please check you license key sticker and there should a Virtual Key just below the OEM , use that key after migration. and you are GOLD!
Unfortunately, two of the Microsoft Licensing Specialist I spoke to, had no clue about this.

  • Selling MacBook with OS X 10.8 upgrade?

    Hi guys,
Few months back I've purchased a MacBook Pro with Lion preinstalled, and I was entitled to upgrade to OS X, since it was purchased soon before the release.
Now, I'm selling this macbook, and I want to obviously sell it with the OS X. But it looks like the upgrade license is "attached" to my Apple ID (if I boot up in Mountain Lion recovery, it asks me for login and password, and won't continue without it).
How can I transfer this license to the new user? I think it's not unreasonable request, after all it's upgraded OEM license...
    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

Sorry, but legally, Apple's EULA license for that software Only allows the Original User who's account downloaded that new version of OS X, or any of their downloadable software, to own and use it.  Legally, you can only sell your MacBook with the original software that came on it new.  You cannot "transfer" the downloaded software's ownership, though you might want to.
    Hope this helps

  • Problems cleaning up 12.1.0.1 agents after upgrading to 12.1.0.3

I have just completed upgrading OEM from 12.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.3. Agents have also been upgraded to 12.1.0.3.0 and I am now attempting to clean up 12.1.0.1.0 agents. In the console I choose Setup -> Manage Cloud Control -> Clean up Agents and choose the Post Agent Upgrade Tasks, select agents to clean up and choose submit and a job is submitted. I wait until the job completes successfully, choose another agent to clean up, submit the job and the submission fails with the error -
    ORA-20401: A job with the specified name already exists ORA-06512: at "SYSMAN.EM_JOB_OPS", line 290 ORA-06512: at "SYSMAN.GC_JOB", line 29 ORA-06512: at line 1
I look at job activity and the job shows as having completed successfully. If I wait a period of time (overnight in one case) or from the job console delete the most recent job I am then able to successfully submit another cleanup job.
Has anyone else experienced this or is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    Bill Wagman

    Anandu,
Apparently this is a known issue. Oracle's response -
There are some limitations related to user input for job name. These limitations are being tracked by bugs and are deferred to next release.
16689459---> EMCLI UPGRADE_AGENTS FAILS BADLY IF JOBNAME WAS REUSED
16689511---> EMCLI UNEXPECTED INPUT PARSING WHEN JOBNAME HAS SPECIAL CHARACTERS
    Suggestion:
Try submitting a new job with a new job name. Job names must be unique.
    Thank you.
