Upgrading OS on 7500/200

Hi all,
We've got an old Powermac 7500/200 that we use to run a dot-matrix pin-fed invoice printer. We need to upgrade the OS from 8.6 to 9.2 to upgrade our pricing software. I know that I have to purchase a CD install to get to 9 from 8.6, but is there anything else I need to do? BIOS updates? Things of that nature?
Please help, supervisors are getting antsy.
Thanks

I run an AppleTalk ImageWriter II dot matrix as a network printer from Macs with Mac OS 8 and 9. I use it to print pinfeed checks. A Farallon EtherMac iPrint LT converter is used to bridge AppleTalk-over-Ethernet onto a LocalTalk network that includes the AppleTalk ImageWriter II and an AppleTalk ImageWriter LQ.
There are drivers available to run these printers from Mac OS X, but they a a little generic, and loose a few subtle features like positioning the paper for last-form-tearoff.
So there are some other dot-matrix options available that do not require a serial port.

That's correct kayraypole! For our upgrade eligible customers, we have a deal that you can trade in any iPhone for a $200 Verizon Wireless gift card. Here's a link so you can check it out, www.trade-in.vzw.com. If you already upgraded & you are within 14 days of purchase then you can return the 5s, restocking fee may be applicable, and take advantage of this promo. How awesome is that!

  • Any reason to upgrade my E51 from 200.34.36?

The phone is working fine for me, except for a few minor annoyances.  About the only reason I'd consider upgrading is if it would fix any of these.
    1.  My previous phone, a Nokia 6133, had timed profiles, where I could select a profile for some length of time, and the phone would automatically return to the default profile.  Really useful for meetings and the like. My E51 currently can't do this.
    2.  I formatted a memory card in the phone, and now it's totally inaccessible from a PC.  I put it in a USB memory card reader, plug it into my system, and nothing.  It doesn't even recognise the memory card, no drive letter appears in explorer like it does when I use a valid memory card. I've checked for a password on the phone, there isn't one.  Itd be nice if there was a way to format a memory card so I can remove it from the phone and access it in a USB reader on a PC.
    3.  Going back to the 6133 again, it had the ability to show both the phone contacts and the SIM contacts in one list.  I can get to the contacts in the SIM card on the 6133, but it'd be a useful feature if I didn't have to drill through two or three levels of menus to get to them.  Just hit the contacts button, and there they are.
If none of these are fixed, I can't see any benefit to upgrading - other than these, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

    See this: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/imovie-to-finalcutpro/
I've imported a couple of iMovie '11 projects to Final Cut Pro X. The process works quite seamlessly. The associated Events are also imported to FCP X Events Library. However, in a couple of areas, some items weren't always kept in the correct position - such as Titles. So you may have to play around a bit in order to re-sync some media. Certainly, you will need to check through the whole project to ensure the integrity of the project.
Whilst FCP X can render in the background, I'm finding that things are much quicker in iMovie - each title, transition and effect appears virtually in an instant (no rendering at all during editing). In FCP X, there is a lag - items don't appear to play smoothly until the render is complete. So, when checking how a title or transition looks on playback, to see a smooth result it's best to wait for the render to finish. Of course, this is probably dependent on your system - perhaps I need to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM and a quad core i7.

  • Noob needs help: Macbook RAM/storage upgrade advice

Firstly, let me apologize in advance for my ignorance in this subject area!  I'm a complete noob!
    Here goes:
I have a MacBook 7,1 (MC516LL/A) with all original, factory components, and since I've upgraded to OS X 10.7.5, it's been running incredibly S...L...O...W... which is incredibly annoying to me:P
Out of the 250GB's of HD storage, I have about 91 free.  From my previous experience with mac notebooks, I know that I am going to need to get some more hard drive space, soon (my last iBook turned to complete crap, once I got down to 20 gigs of available memory).
I see that I can upgrade the RAM from two, 1GB sticks to two, 4GB sticks.  From the limited research I've done, I'm under the impression that only the boot-up speed will increase slightly (please correct me if any of this is wrong).
I've also been reading about Solid State Drives, found some reasonably priced ones on crucial.com, and they look/sound AWESOME!  Aaaaaand the reality is that I really have no idea what I truly need.  I'm a single mom and a college student, so I'm looking for an upgrade option in the $200-300 range, *and* I'm not into graphic design, web design, or anything that requires top of the line equipment.
My macbook is practically glued to my hands 24/7, so I just want it to run FASTER, and I need more storage.  I don't know if this info is pertinent or helps, but outside of studying (all done with ebooks and online websites), I like to download a lot of music, watch videos, upload family pictures, browse the interwebz, etc., etc.
What can I do to improve speed and expand storage capacity?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Hello! I own a mid-2010 MacBook (a.k.a MacBook 7,1) running OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, which I use for school, and I had the exact same issues with my MacBook, before I upgraded it. I had almost filled up my MacBook's HDD and my computer's RAM was insufficient to perform any of my day-to-day tasks with ease. I upgraded the RAM from two sticks of 1GB (the factory-installed configuration) to one stick of 4GB, and I installed a 1TB HDD in place of the original 250GB HDD (my requirements were slightly different from what yours seem to be). Currently, my MacBook is a lot less laggy than it used to be (even with a HDD that's four times larger in terms of capacity installed), but it still takes a long time to start up and perform certain tasks. Therefore, from my experience, I would recommend that you do the following:
    1. Get two sticks of 2GB (2x2GB) of RAM, not one stick of 4GB (1x4GB). Even though the latter will probably be considerably cheaper than the former, I think it's worth the few extra dollars to get the former because it's much faster than the latter. You shouldn't go for anything more than 4GB of RAM in total, because it'll overload your MacBook. Trust me, that's not something you want to have to deal with!
    2. Get a 500GB or 512GB SSD, not a larger HDD. In hindsight, I don't think I even needed anything close to 1TB. I only purchased my huge HDD because it was on offer, and it was being sold (believe it or not) for less than a 500GB HDD. But if you're looking for speed, an HDD is not the way to go; they're much, much slower than SSDs, even though they're much cheaper.
You should see an exponential increase in the speed of your MacBook. You might want to try the following websites; they offer high-quality, affordable components and I've known people (including myself) who have used their products before.

  • Upgrading PowerMac G4 to the MAX for video production?????

I need to know if I can just upgrade my Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) to the max for video production? I'll be using 4 main programs.
    1. Final Cut Studio 2
    2. After Affects
    3. Protools
    4. Photoshop CS 3
Final Cut recommends this for all applications:
    * 2GB of RAM when working with compressed HD and uncompressed SD sources
    * 4GB of RAM when working with uncompressed HD sources
    Here are my computer stats:
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 450 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 3.2.2f1
Can anyone please help? This is my first mac.

    Hey DJ,
I'm thinking that, for those specific needs, dollars are better thrown at a newer model than upgrades for your existing one. Here's why:
    1) You do not have native support for large hard drives, something that's nice for video work. You'd have to spend money on a PCI adaptor card to add that support. Figure US$40-100.
    2) Your video card is likely not up to the task unless it's already been upgraded. Another $70-250 depending on how good a scrounger you are.
    3) You need a minimum 1.25Ghz G4 processor and, if you get the upgrade, who's to say if the next version of FC will still support a G4? 1.2G processor upgrades start at over $200 and faster ones are up to $700 (OWC pricing for new gear).
    4) You can't stick more than 2G RAM in your computer.
And, after all the upgrades, you still have the basic bus speed limitation inherent in all G4s.
Bottom line is that you can quickly invest enough to buy a faster used Mac. Examples of used G5 prices (usually at the top of the price scale) are here. Even an entry level G5 should be much faster than a fully upgraded G4.
Don't get me wrong--I'm an upgrader and love to do it regardless of cost. In this case, I see the potential for ending up with an upgraded computer that struggles at its intended task and could be obsoleted by the next upgrade of the software.

  • Wireless Clients can't connect post WLC Upgrade to version 7.4.100.0

Upgraded WLC Flex 7500 controller to: 7.4.100.0
    Previous WLC Controller version: 7.2.111.3
After the upgrade, all AP's reported back to the controller and looked like working. We have 50+ branch sites that connect back via Layer 2 to the main office. The main office SSID's were broadcasting and users could connect and get the proper IP's. Users that connected back through FlexConnect AP's couldn't obtain an IP address. The client would authenticate to the WLC and accept the SSID key, but would not get an IP address. I see with the 7.4.100.0 upgrade there are more options for DHCP for each interface, which we don't use interfaces for all sites as we did in the early days, now we make sure the flex connect tab has the vlan identifier in the tab and the traffic goes out the local firewall etc. Each remote site has a Linux based firewall and DHCP server.
Looking for any insight with the 7.4.100.0 upgrade that may cause clients to not connect and obtain an IP address.
We have since back dated our WLC Software to: 7.2.111.3 to allow things to work pre upgrade which everything worked fine.
Any suggestions would be great, we had to upgrade version 7.4.100.0 to support our AP 1602.
    Thanks in advance.
    Matt

Verify that you have an upgraded FUS image. Second, make sure your WLAN to vlan mapping on the FlexConnect AP's have the correct vlan mapping. I have seen these change to the default vlan mapping.

I just have a small connect about the CP, any reason you are keeping in on the DB node rather than the application tier (Node 1)? Rather than having the application tier filesystem on two nodes, it would be easier to move the CP to Node 1 and have one application tier file system node (assuming you have sufficient resources).

  • Macbook 4,1 RAM upgrade, L-Bracket

I just removed the 2 x 1 GB RAM on my early 2008 MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel C2D and replaced it with 2 sticks of Kingston 2 GB RAM for a total of 4 GB.
With the L bracket that runs around the RAM and HDD replaced, the computer starts, gets to the login page but won't allow me to login. The arrow moves around the page but it won't select anything; it seems frozen.
With the L bracket removed, it runs normally and recognizes the 4 GB of RAM. This was discovered by accident with a technician at the store from which I bought the RAM. Initially, I thought it wasn't working at all.
With the old 2 x 1 GB RAM reinstalled and the L bracket replaced, the computer also runs normally.
It seems the only way I can get the computer to run with the new memory is to leave the L bracket out.
    Is that risky?
Has anyone ever encountered this before?

The physical size of the Kingston replacement RAM likely is larger than that of the original spec RAM; so the bracket can't be used due to the lack of clearance, given the RAM takes up the space once available.
I have a horror story involving Kingston RAM in an Apple computer under AppleCare where the authorized retail store with trained experts upgraded my new iMac with this stuff, and eventually killed the computer. Yet they could never find anything wrong with it, I could repeatedly get kernal panics and other big problems by simply running five things. The same five things and the computer would tank. But they said it never did anything in their care. I sent along a list of things to do, to recreate the misery, and I know they did nothing to follow it. Miles of long distance driving, to leave the computer for testing, to find it would kernal panic by following the same method I told these experts when I got back home with it. Because of AppleCare, I was forbade to open the computer to access the upper RAM slot. So their monkeys did it. I traveled many 200+ mile road trips (1,200 miles) with the dead imac riding shotgun in its original box... It's still in a coma inside that box. Does it dream? A scary thought.
And I've repaired, upgraded, and restored over 200+ Macs.
{Sad to think I had to rely on inCompUSA & had no real
    Apple Store or support here in AK at the time.}
So get a better quality product on the outset and avoid bad RAM whose only guaranty is more of the same. I got replacement Kingston RAM months after I paid to get other brand RAM, in the mail. I gave it away. Junk. About the same quality as the company who worked on my iMac under AppleCare. No support at all.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • E51 fw 200.34.36 not working #

    Hi,
I have just upgraded my e51 to 200.34.36 and i realised that # is not working properly as in fw 100.xx.xx
In the ld fw key # was used to switch to silent profile and back when the key was pressed and hold. But after the instalation the key # is not switching to silent and when i hold this key, it asks me to change the line (line 1 vs. line 2).
Why it was changed? - is it a bug or a feature? - understand - the fast switching using # is much better than pressing the power button and choosing a profile...(and the printed note on the button is missleading as well).
Can you please suggest me any solution or way how tu remap the button on user level if possible?
    thanks

reset your phone by pressing *#7370# in standby mode(after make a back up)
    if your problem didnt solved.
it is normal for your new firmware!

  • Upgrade from Photoshop CS6 Student to normal version?

    Hello there,
Last year I bought Photoshop CS6 Student as I was a student back then. Right now I started a business and want to keep using photoshop legally. Is it possible to upgrade  from a student license to a normal license? What is the price of this upgrade? Or can I just use my student version for business purposes? (I guess not)
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

Primarily a budgetary concern. At the time, I had $199 to spend on the upgrade. The extra $200 wasn't going to happen before the end of December when the pricing was said to increase so I went ahead and picked up CS6. The 3D capabilities would be nice to have and probably would be helpful in future projects, but the need right now was to get the upgrade to the standard with the (now presumably false) assumption I could upgrade when I had a few more gigs show up.
If it's another $400 to upgrade, it won't be worth it for me. My primary job is programming, I only do side work for photography and some simple design and while it'd be nice to have some basic 3D ability in Photoshop, it's not $600 worth (400 for the upgrade + the $200 I already spent).

  • [2010 MacBook Pro Upgrades] High Prices?

I'm not quite sure that this is what the forums are for, but there's nowhere else I could find to submit my question after 30 mins of searching.
I have been saving up for the 15", 2.66GHz MacBook Pro for almost 1.5 years now, and my target price has always been roughly £1600.
However, the recent upgrades have seen a £200 increase on the prices, but only for the UK. I have noticed that the US prices haven't really changed at all.
Is there a reason behind this high pricing and is there a chance of the prices falling slightly over the next few months?

There was an increase in the 15" models across the board, but have a look also at the change in the UK pound Sterling / US $ exchange rate changes in recent times, captain jones. Unfortunately the expected trend is for further weakening of the £ against $. I suspect this is a substantial part of the change.
We saw similar changes in years gone by when the Aussie $ was not doing so well. The introduction of a GST over here a few years back also had an impact. Now that the Aussie is healthy again against the greenback there has been a significant reduction in price differentials between here and the US (though probably not quite getting us back to parity even when the GST is considered)

  • Upgrade price question

I don't qualify for the 199/299 price because I upgraded on 12/27/09. So how much would I have to pay to upgrade early anyways?

I don't have to pay the no commitment price do I? -_-
What If I upgrade early anyways an extend the 2 yr contract. How much will I pay?

How much did you pay for your existing iPhone?
The fully subsidized or discounted price I'm sure. You do realize the price you paid was $400 less than the full retail sales price for the iPhone?
Apple recieves the same amount of money per new iPhone sale regardless, so it is AT&T paying Apple the difference on your behalf and you haven't paid off your debt for the amount AT&T paid Apple for your existing iPhone.
How much more over the fully subsidized or discounted price would you be willing to pay?
You may qualify for AT&T's early upgrade price, which is $200 more than the fully subsidized or discounted price.
If so and that price is not acceptable, stick with what you've got, or look into selling your existing iPhone to someone else and use the proceeds to pay whatever you have to pay for the iPhone 4 if you want one.

  • How to request an upgrade for DVR

Good Evening AT&T forums, Just looking to see if anyone has a tried and true method of upgrading their DVR, we have been a customer with ATT for >5 years, subscribe to the U300 television package, and we have had the same base Cisco model for the duration. The model has also had some issues causing the picture to randomly drop. I would really like to upgrade to the 7500 model but the only way to upgrade I can see is paying a $105 fee which is semi-frustrating when we should have had our DVR upgraded when we picked up the U300 package about a year ago. Please let me know your thoughts or if I'm stuck paying the fee and hoping for the best in terms of model replacement. Thank you!

The only sure method is ordering, however..... The two methods of receiving the DVR can impact your chances.A direct shipped, get whatever is pulled at warehouse, may be same (replace like for like) or better. The tech dispatch (4 hour appointment window) is limited to what tech has on truck, but a better chance (especially as u300) to get upgraded DVR (if available). For me, recommend scheduling a tech visit for intermittent DVR issue, let the tech bring things up to standards. When tech pre calls, ask if carrying the desired (new, larger DVR) to elimate surprise.

  • Can I upgrade from Photoshop CS6 Standard to Extended

From everything I have been able to find out, I would need to pay the full $400 upgrade from my CS4 license even though I already own CS6. Surely there must be a way to go from CS6 to CS6 Extended for less than the cost to go from a previous version to CS6 Extended, but if there is, I cannot find a way how.
    Thanks,
    R
