Upgrading OSX to add longevity to machine

Hi, I've got a Mirror Door G4, and whilst it would be nice to have the latest Intel Mac Pro this is not a financial option. I am however trying to improve on what I've got to add longevity to the machine.
I've just put in 4x 512MB memory to bring it upto 2GB, the max for this machine and just put in a 500GB WD HD.
I use it for graphics and have Adobe CS1, I would like to upgrade to CS3 or 4, but undersatnd it won't run on OS X 10.3.9 which I have, will my machine take 10.5 happily? I've read 10.6 will be for Intel Mac only so this could be my last chance to bring it up to date.
My plan would be to install the new OS on the new 500GB HD, then load my software and finally move my files from my current 80GB then reformat this and use it elsewhere.... back up music or whatever!
I also quite fancy dabbling in a bit of amature Video - nothing more than iDVD and editing family camcorder stuff. To do so I will also need to put in a DVD writer as I currently only have a CD writer, but I'm comfortable doing that.
If I can get another few years out of it I'll be quite happy!

Your machine, as well as CS, CS2, CS3 and CS4, will run fine with Tiger. Mine does. Even Photoshop 7.0.1 runs well.
If you do upgrade to Leopard (I would definitely NOT recommend it), forget about any version earlier than CS3. They are not supported by Adobe under Leopard and have many incompatibilities with Leopard. Even CS4 has difficulties under Leopard, as it does not support Spaces. In this latter regard, Adobe simply tells you to +"contact Apple" to complain+.
What has helped me a lot is permanently disabling Spotlight and Dashboard.
I practically live in Photoshop. Disabling Spotlight and Dashboard permanently has helped a lot.
Photoshop 7.0.1 through 11 (CS4). Tiger 10.4.11. Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, *both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled*, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!

I also had problem accessing my WD MyBookLive after upgrading to Maverick.
To resolve the problem, I used Connect To Server (Cmd K) to specify the IP address.
Then I enter a user id and password I created in the MyBookLive.
You can also verify that you have admin access to the MyBookLive using Safari or Chrome.
Just enter the MyBookLive IP address as the URL.

A Safari upgrade will not affect PS. An OS X upgrade, however, could. See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

After upgrading to OS X Mavericks Time machine stops working

After upgrading to OS X Mavericks Time machine stops backing up and sometimes hangs on ,,preparing,, for o days and sometimes stops inmediatly. Report says:

Is this a Firewire or Thunderbolt connected disk? There are know issues with that in Mavericks. If so try connecting the drive by USB as you continue.
Is it a WD drive? There appear to be issues with those drive on Mavericks.

Can anyone help me to recover OSX Mountain Lion using TIme Machine backup as i accidently corrupted the recovery HD and the Macintosh Drive?

As Linc stated, you can boot from your Time Machine backup of OS X Mountain Lion.
Restart your machine and hold down the Option key. Select the Time Machine backup drive to boot from. When it boots into the TM drive you will get the same OS X Utilities screen like in the recovery HD. You can use Disk Utilities to erase your Macintosh HD then restore your Mac OS X from Time Machine.

if you have os x 10.5.1 use apple software update to go to 10.5.8. this is a free update.

Adobe CS 3 to 5.5 Upgrade OSX

I have a question regarding an upgrade I have performed on OSX Snow Leopard.
Situation :
An iMac with OSX Tiger and Adobe CS 3 installed. Needs to be upgraded to Adobe CS 5.5 Design Standard
Actions performed:
1) Upgraded OSX to Snow Leopard
2) Installed Adobe CS 5.5
The weird thing is, on the box of CS 5.5 it says upgrade version. But when I look in the applications folder
there seem to be 2 seperate installations of CS 3 and CS 5.5. I have doubles for every program in both versions.
I find it weird that it seemed to have done a completely seperate install and no upgrade.
The user who works on this Mac would like to see the old version gone, but I'm a bit worried that
uninstalling CS 3 will also deactivate/mess up the CS 5.5 installation.
In the applications/utilities folder I can see an CS 3 uninstaller.
Can anyone tell me if it is safe to run this installer an that the CS 5.5 installation will be untouched and still be activated.
The sticker on the CS 5.5 upgrade box clearly says : UPGRADE VERSION.
Any advise is much appreciated.

What will likely happen when you remove CS3 is it will affect the file associations. You can either uninstall both CS3 and CS5.5 and reinstall CS5.5, it will ask for a qualifying serial number, or you can reinstall CS3 and manually restore any needed file associations.

When I left the corporate world ... I switched to Apple and now also have ( and couldn't live without) an IPad, an IPhone , & a big silver IPod. But I'm more into the front end ...the OS world is beyond my attention span ....it seems..
When I have a problem, I have run down to see a "genius" ..... but with my finding this discussion group ( yesterday (@#&*%*^) ...its much better because it seems one can get not only help ..... but also "work around's" that geniuses don't tell you about. But when I go to the app store and try and buy Mountain Lion .... It says my computer is not compatible.
From what been said it seems the only problem lies with the " Late 2007" thing. Is the 4MB I have the right MG ?

Its just not a good time for be to buy a new Mac...

Update! I took some general advice on the forum and rebooted my iPhone a few times. I also asked the phone to "forget this device" and attempted to reconnect several times. It would load my contacts and then proceed to disconnect from the phone and I would also see a message on the Bluetooth page that the BlueAnt ST3 was not supported.
I gave up.
I left the two devices plugged into my computer for power overnight, laying side by side on the table.
They found each other. The next day they connected and have been communicating ever since.
Perhaps until the next IOS upgrade? But a happy ending in the interim

I Just ordered the HP Pavilion Model Number is m7-1015dx i really really look forward to getting this laptop it has really really good specifications for the price. The only thing that has been bugging me really bad is that "Can you upgrade the Graphics Card in this machine?" Since i am using the for Hardcore Gaming and School.

Upgrading graphics chips on laptops is very difficult and mostly impossible because the chips are soldered to the motherboard. You can upgrade the graphics chip by replacing the motherboard with a compatible one which has a more powerful graphics chip. In your case it is a mobo with an Nvidia GF GT650M with 2GB of DDR5 RAM. However, the motherboard costs approx $600. The part number you need is: 682040-001.
It looks like M7series laptops are compatible with Dv7-6000 series laptops. See a service manual:
