Upgrading plan from basic to smart phone

I'm currently on a grandfathered family plan with all basic phones with my parents and siblings. I want to upgrade to a smartphone (probably an iphone) and was wondering if I switch to my own plan can I keep the same phone number? And will this mess up my parents' plan if I'm leaving it? Also, I'm not sure how much data I would need. I've looked at the calculator, but I'm just wondering what is an adequate amount for one person? I frequently use Facebook, email, Google, and Pandora. Lastly, if there is wifi at my house, for example, does it still use the allotted data or does it switch to the wifi the way an ipod touch uses wifi without having to pay extra for it? Thank you so much!

You need to do an assumption of liability (AOL) for your line of service and move it from your parents account to a new Verizon account in your name.  Depending on your credit score, you may or may not have to pay a deposit as much as $400, refundable after one year of on-time payments.  This should not affect your parents plan if they still have 2 or more lines of service.
I have no idea how much data you need, but I would start with 2GB and keep a close eye on it.  WIFI does not use your Verizon data, of course.

  • Upgrade from basic to smart phone before contract finishes.  What are my options?

    Hi everyone,
I'm working on upgrading from a basic phone to a smartphone.  My current phone is one line in a shared plan (1 iphone and 3 basic phones).
My current contract isn't up until September 2014, but it's become necessary that I get a smartphone this winter.  Obviously, that's not going to happen without some fees, but I'm trying to figure out what my options are.  This is what I think I have, but are there ones I'm not considering?
    1. Buy a phone through verizon without the subsidy.  I assume this resets my 2 year contract.  But there's no early termination fee, right?
    2. Buy a verizon-ready used phone from a friend and apply it to my account.  I believe that this doesn't incur an ETF either, right?
    3. Add a new line with a smartphone (with subsidy).  Transfer my number to that phone, and then pay to terminate the basic phone line (which would be $175-5/month, so $105, right?).
    4. Pay to terminate this line ($105), and move to another carrier, but my number wouldn't transfer.
Any recommendations within these options, or things I haven't mentioned?
    Thanks!

    1. If you buy a phone without subsidy, there is no contract. And no ETF -- you'd simply put the new phone on the line and the contract end date is the same.
    2. Correct. You can activate a phone you bought elsewhere anytime. It won't change your contract. You will simply have to add the data plan.
    3. The contract is tied to the phone number. So if you add a line for a smartphone, that number/line would incur the $350 smartphone ETF. But you can transfer the new smartphone to your current line, then put your basic phone on that line -- it will either cost you $10/month if you're on a Nationwide plan or $30/month if on Share Everything.
    4. You can port your number to the new carrier and pay the ETF, which seems it'll be about $105. Every carrier has to allow porting nowadays. Just know if you're not happy with the new carrier and want to switch back to Verizon within the first few months (either 60 or 90 days, I can't recall), you'll be put right back on the contract you were on.
I can't think of any other options. When I feel like switching and I'm under contract, I typically choose No. 2 in your above scenario.

  • Getting data into 4S from a different smart phone or Windows Outlook?

I didn't think it would be this hard. I was using a Windows mobile 6.5 smart phone syncing to Outlook in Bootcamp (or Parallels) on my MacBookPro.  I assumed that I would be able to transfer all my pda data over. I went to the Apple store yesterday & talked to a set up person who only seemed to know about transferring contacts. Duh, this is a smart phone, not just a cell phone so there is a lot more in it than contacts.
So then I went to Genius bar where I was tended to by the head Genius. I had run a conversion on the calendar to mac compatible. So he imported that. But it seems to have lost all the exceptions to my recurring events--like a weekly event that isn't happening this week & next because of the holidays is still showing up. & not only that, its in twice.
I guess that may have happened when I ran the conversion program as it said something about exceptions that I didn't understand.
But now I'm thinking that, wait a minute, it says the iPhone can sync with Windows & Outlook. So now I"m thinking that maybe we should have set it up to sync with Outlook to get the calendar info in, & maybe the contacts as well.
As it is, it looks like I will have to go in & re-enter the calendar exceptions that I had carefully previously entered.
I'm wondering if I could just delete the calendar info in iCal and/or iPhone & go back & sync to Outlook, & then change it back to sync to the Mac side.
I have an Apple One to One on the iPhone this afternoon, but I want to use that to learn how to work the thing. Frustration right now in that I don't know how to do all the things that I knew so well on the old phone. So I want to learn how to use the basic functions I've already been used to useing, calendar, etc as well as getting used to typing on it. Not doing real well on that yet, lol. & I want to learn how to use Siri & reminders right away before a planned trip next week.
So any suggestions appreciated. Don't know if it would have been different in transferring data if I went to a Verizon store. & I also need to get my email set up. That I may be able to do myself since I've done it a few times on my old phone & different computers.

OK, this confirmed somewhat, what I had realized overnight--after the Apple store did things the hard way. I didn't follow exactly what they were doing, but I asked for help with setup. & I told them that I had my data in OutlookWindows, which I thought I told them was in Bootcamp on my Mac.
But it seems that the one who did setup had a device that Verizon uses & which apparently is what they use when moving info from an old cell phone to a new one. & So he just brought over the contacts. In the process, the photos associated with them were lost. I'm not sure, maybe he asked me what I wanted to bring over, I'm not real sure, but I remember I mentioned I needed my contacts & my calendar but he seemed unsure how to get the calendar in.
Of course I had made the mistake of thinking that I needed to do it the way that I had gotten the earlier contacts in--but that was before I had the iPhone that could sync with the Mac so I had converted the data.  So I wasn't thinking straight & it appears that neither were they.
I mean it seems that they were doing it like what Verizon used to do when switching from one cell phone to another--ones that didn't have pda type functions.
I mean, duh, when one is switching from one smart phone to another, it kind of seems a given that we want all our stuff brought over to the new device, especially when it can be done by syncing it over.
What I finally did today was that after my One to One appointment, I got back to back Genius bar appointments (after reading this solution that confirmed what I had been thinking--which was after I came out of the Verizon store where they got my email set up so I could see this notice) & asked if we could delete the messed up calendar & instead sync it in from Outlook.
So he did it by givng me step by step instructions. (below) & then he created a new calendar. Then he deleted the original one--this on my macbookpro--& then renamed the one Home.
These are the step by step instructions he gave me.
    1. Download iTunes to Windows from iTunes.com, (I did this in Parallels which uses bootcamp running Win 7 as a virtual machine)
    2. Open iTunes & plug in iPhone
    3. click on left side on my phone
    4. click on info tab at top--where personal info is
    5. click sync all contacts
    6. scroll to bottom under advanced (this was because I was only syncing calendars since the rest had already been brought over). So then I clicked on sync calendars
    7. Hit apply button on bottom right.
then click on phone icon in iTunes to eject phone
Then do the same things on the Mac side except not using advanced, just a regular sync of calendar.
One other frustrating thing in all this is that I had an apple id, but had to change that to set up iCloud since it required an email address. So changed my ID, but same password. But then when iTunes wanted me to register or register my device, it said my password was invalid. They have slightly different rules for the password. Would have been nice if they were uniform so I don't have to change things twice!
I did it & it worked so now, I do have 2 calendars on my iPhone, but I guess I can delete one of them later.
But this brought the calendar events over the way I had entered them with the exceptions to the recurring events. That is the weekly events that don't happen some weeks due to holidays or other reasons. Those exceptions were recognized so those events that are not happening this week, properly now do not show up in my calendar. So I don't have to go back & re-enter the exceptions.
But I'm really disappointed that the Apple Store personnel who as part of the iPhone One to One training lists syncing with Outlok, didn't seem to even think of that as the best way to get pda data from Windows was not to pull it from the old phone, but instead to first sync the iPhone with Windows.  Not sure what they tell those just using Windows computers.

  • Keeping an unlimited plan but adding a smart phone

I currently have a 4S and my wife has an old LG. I have unlimited data. I plan to buy the 5 at retail and then give my wife the 4S. I assume that means I will have to add a data plan for her but hopefully keep my existing plan - Family shared 700 minutes.
    Is this possible?

I guess switching phones with my mother-in-law is not considered an upgrade for me.
Someone said in passing that if you upgrade a line that will force a change to the new shared plan. What you are telling me is that will not happen in my case.  My mother-in-law would end up (briefly) with a smart phone and $30 will be added to my bill. When I take over the 5 and she goes back to her old phone, the $30 would be eliminated. Then when my wife gets my 4S $30 will be added. If i keep rehashing this it is only because there is a lot of money at stake here and I do not want to lose my unlimited plan.

  • Is there an upgrade plan from 3G till 3Gs?

I bought my iphone 1 year ago here in Sweden. There is no info yet about the 3GS phone on their site, but what is the general upgrade plan? Do I have to return my old phone to get the new one? Or can an I give my phone to someone else who can use it with their own chip while I use my new phone with my own contract? How does this work?

The link was only to give you an idea on options available here. In brief they are:
Option 1 - wait until eligible for an upgrade.
Option 2 - purchase the iPhone 3G S on Pay & Go from 19 June.
Option 3 - pay the remainder of their monthly line rental in one payment and sign a new Pay Monthly contract.
    Makes you sick, done it?

  • Upgrade Planning from 11.1.2.0 to 11.1.2.1 on new environment

    Hi guys,
We recently got a requirement that we need to install a completely new environment for Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1. The old system is with 11.1.2.0 on a separate network.
The installation and configuration document says 11.1.2.1 is a maintenance release. I also couldn't find the 11.1.2.0 -> 11.1.2.1 upgrade path. Does this mean we have to install 11.1.2.0 in the new environment then performance "in place upgrade" to 11.1.2.1?
What is the recommended upgrade method from 11.1.2.0 to 11.1.2.1 if the deploy to a new environment?
    Thanks,
    Fred.

    Thanks for your reply John!
The 11.1.2.1 version is required to be installed on a separate network. If we follow the official route that means to install 11.1.2.0 -> Migrate -> apply maintenance release to upgrade to 11.1.2.1. This would be the last option we want to go with... The 11.1.2.0 installation files are not available from Oracle any more.
I still have a few questions about the other options.
Option 2: Clean install of 11.1.2.1 -> Create empty planning apps -> Clone planning apps relational database
Question: After all the steps above, do I need to perform "upgrade" for each app inside of planning?
Option 3: Clean install of 11.1.2.1 -> Create empty planning apps -> Use LCM to migrate the content
Question: Will LCM work between 11.1.2.0 and 11.1.2.1? I personally had some bad experience with LCM when the target and source system is not 100% identical.

  • Lg voyager vx 10000 basic vs smart phone

I purchased an lg voyager vx 10000 to use as a basic phone and to replace my current basic phone. I understood that this phone could be used in this way but whenever I try to switch on my account it says I have to upgrade my pan?? Does anyone know anything about this phone and/or situation? Thanks!

I loved my LG Voyager!!  And I like your username too.
The Voyager is a multi-media phone, and the plan change it may be referring to is a "Pay as you Go" data plan that needs to be added.  There's no charge unless you use data, at $1.99 per mb, but you still have to add the plan option.  You can block all data to ensure you are not going to accidentally activate something that will use data, since the phone does have a simple html browser.

  • Review/Input Requested on Upgrade Plan (from RHv7 to RHv8).

Hi folks!  Hopefully by my asking this and having others review it, it will help others in their upgrade efforts!
I'm the only "real" technical writer at my company (full-time/titled) and need some support from the community on my grand(iose?) plans.  We're upgrading our KB's from RH7 to RH8 to allow more "authors" to come on board to support me - their basic responsibility is content editing and updating.
I'd like some input on this plan and see if I'm missing anything BIG or if there's a "gotcha" I didn't mention.  I didn't see anything else on this particular type of upgrade... I think mainly because I dove into the multi-author environment head first and never looked back.
Current Environment:  Running a front-line support KB in RH7, 4 authors and myself, RSC 3.1 running source control on a database server as project "X".
    Project size and characteristics:  2300 topics; 480 variable, 120 snippets.  Four SSL's for different audiences.  Output is WebHelp on DFS based servers (replicated to remote sites for business continuity - think "mirror" if on web);
    Usage:  60-100 users daily;
    Generation/Publishing: daily when updates occur.
End State:  RH8, 6 authors, RSC 3.1 running source control on database server as project "Y" (this is to allow us to parallel the RH7 and RH8 releases and retire the bloated RH7 database (two years of changes).
Procedure:  (I will perform these steps unless otherwise noted).
Copy source files onto separate machine with RH8 installed (with 8.0.2 update).
Lockdown (partial) database (no changes except emergent).
Open and convert project - denying access to RSC for the project.  (We must still keep RH7 up and running to do emergent updates and backout in case of failure at the end).
Tweak project files (known design changes, templates/master pages, snippets, variables, etc.).
    Customize SSL's for testing
Save project as new name and create/rename starting page,
Test Generate and publish all SSLs.
Check publishing.  Repeat above until correct.
    Place project into version control.
    Test Check In/check out.
    Update SSLs to PROD servers.
Update content changes since "partial lockdown".
    Generate/Publish/Check content
Announce to users (will have new URLs).
Upgrade existing authors in series.  including:  Deleting old project from hard drive, uninstalling RH7, installing RH8, installing 8.0.2 update, retrieving new project (always a fun time!).
Upgraded authors test check in/check out.
Unfreeze content changes - all changes in RH8 - no changes in RH7 version.
    Parallel content for one week.
Remove RH7 generated WebHelp system from PROD.  Replace landing page with redirect.
Archive RH7 database and remove from RSC server.
    Bring new authors on individually.
One additional note.  There is a strong push to add about 3,000 new items to the KB.  I say items because I have not evaluated content and do not know if "items" corresponds to topics.  Could be a 1:1; likely a 1:3 (i.e., 9,000 new items).  These items would probably be limited to only one SSL (group).  Should I put these additional items in a separate project (start afresh) for performance sake?
    Thanks in advance.

Disregard.  Plan implemented successfully.  For the most part as-is.

  • Data plan required with a smart phone?

Is Verizon's policy that if you have a smartphone, even one purchased separately, that there has to be a data plan for that phone?
Daughter wants an ipod touch for Christmas; rather than her have both an ipod touch and a dumb-phone, it would make more sense if I could get her an older iphone without a data plan and combine the two, using wifi to download apps.

Just get her the iPod Touch and keep her basic phone, that will give you the best of both worlds until you (or she) is ready to pay for data.

  • How do I downgrade my storage plan from a computer / other phone? I no longer have anything Apple

I changed my phone and forgot about my iCloud storage but I got an email through the other day to say they had upgraded the storage system and I'd have to pay x amount per month but I don't use it any more... how do I stop this and change my plan on I cloud when I don't have an iPhone any more? Thanks in advance for help!

Contact the Apple online store for your country and request assistance canceling the storage plan.  If you can't, contact iTunes store support by filling out this form: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • Upgrade Yammer from Basic to O365

    Hi All
We have been using Yammer for sometime now, individuals have registered themselves for the free basic account using their works email addresses. I know want to utilise Yammer Enterprise under our Office 365 agreement. Can the basic accounts be upgraded to
Enterprise and will be lose any previous Yammer data?

    Hi Alex,
As far as I know, it's upgradeable. When you are upgrading an existing Yammer Basic network, you might first need to add the domain as a verified domain.
    See the guideline here: https://about.yammer.com/success/activate/activation-guide/add-a-company-domain/
Upgrade your network to Yammer Enterprise:

Also, this forum focuses on questions and feedback for Microsoft Office client. We now have a dedicated
Yammer forum, I would suggest you to post there if you have any follow-up questions:

  • Trouble with upgrading subscription from basic to trial or pro

Everytime I try upgrading it keeps giving me an error that "your account was registered for TZ. Please sign in using an existing account for this country, or create a new account" and this doesn't seem to disapear no matter what I try or even going through Adobe shopping I get the same.
Need to upgrade urgently and assistance will highly appreciated!

Many thanks for your quick assistance!
However the fourm from your link only mentions countries that can make purchase for upgrade but no solution for those whose countries not listed but yet we are able to purchase other Adobe products without any problems.
Please need help as I worked many hours in creating a beautiful form and now require upgrade so I can use with full functions!
    Thanks again in advance

  • How to get contacts from Verizon non-smart phone to iPhone 4S

What is the best way to get my contacts from my LG Voyager to the iPhone 4S?
    Thank you

Certainly the LG Voyager supports syncing contacts with a supported address book app on your computer?
With Wimdoze, the iPhone supports syncing contacts with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes or with the address book app used by Outlook Express or Windows Mail called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only, and with the Address Book on a Mac.
You need to get the contacts from the Voyager into a supported address book on your computer - the contacts should already be available on your computer someplace. Not a good idea to depend on a cell phone alone for contacts, which can be lost or stolen or damaged by accident.

  • Upgrading Planning from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.2 BR/Calc Manager Issue

    Hi Gurus,
I am attempting to apply the 11.1.2.2 maintenance release to my 11.1.2.1 environment however I have a question that I cannot find the clear answer to. We have never used Calc Manager so it was never installed. I have already applied the maintenance release to my servers however I have not configured them yet as I do not know what to due about Calc Manager as I was not able to select it during any part of the process. It displays as not installed and I cannot modify my existing home to install it so how am I to migrate the business rules to Calc Manager. The documentation does not state that I need to install Calc Manager prior to applying the maintenance release (I assumed that it would install as part of the process).
How do I resolve this situation? Is it even possible to install 11.1.2.1 Calc Manager into an environment that has not been configured and is at 11.1.2.2?
    Thanks in advance.
    Gerald

Really you should have installed Calc Manager 11.1.2.1 before the maintenance release, then when you applied the maintenance release it would upgrade the business rules to Calc Manager, I am sure you would have read that business do not exist in 11.1.2.2
You will be able to install Calc Manager 11.1.2.2 on top of your existing environment 11.1.2.2 and then deploy it though you will not be able to access your original calc manager rules.
Did you take an export of the business rules in calculation manager format or do you have access to the rules on another environment.
    Cheers
