Upgrading Primavera 8.1 db to Primavera 8.2

Hi,
I am currently having a Primavera 8.1 installation and we have installed Prima 8.2 on separate server.
We want to migrate / get all data from 8.1 to this new 8.2 installation
We followed following steps
1. Took Database dump of Prima 8.1
2. Copied prima8.1 dump to new machine
3. imported database dump and create new Prima81 database
4. We ran configuration wizard
5. after entering database details
We are getting following error : The Specified database is not a P6 EPPM database.
Need your help to resolve this issue.
OR
Is there any way we can import Primavera 8.1 data to this new server
Regards

Is the 8.1 database Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (EPPM) or Professional Project Management (PPM)?
Also, can you connect to the 81 database that is restored on the new machine?

  • Can you please share your experience in implementing / upgrading the Primavera EPPM R8.3?

    Hi,
In our company various versions (V7, R8.1 and R8.3) of Primavera being used in various locations. To bring all the location to a common platform, management has decided to implement  / upgrade Primavera EPPM P6 R8.3 and also planned to integrate Primavera P6 R8.3 EPPM with Oracle (EBS) Projects application . Hence, If any of you implemented Primavera P6 EPPM R8.3 or upgraded the earlier versions to Primavera P6 R8.3. Please share your ideas and also the pros and cons of implementing R 8.3 EPPM. For your information we are going to have SQL database since all the existing databases are in SQL.
Please share your ideas and experiences.

    Hi,
we have done a lot of implementations and migrations to the P6 EPPM R8.3 from different former versions and this is working fine. the dbsetup does a good job.
A good way in my point of view is to set up a new P6 EPPM R8.3 system with a new PMDB Instance which will keep the configurations so that you easily can migrate or exchange the instances. Always remind to have a validated backup of any instance before migrating.
Before migration you should mind the following points:
The source version of the old P6 PMDB instance is:
P6.2.1 or before => first you need to migrate it to P6 V7.0 before you can migrate it to P6 R8.3
P6 V7.0 => check if you have used P6 WebAccess: if not okay, else check if you used jackrabbit (look for migration tool), Workflows (close all before migrating); Check if using Jobservice XER-Export (no longer available); Jobservice Batchreport (only Workaround available see Knowledgebase); Risks in the P6 Client (need to be manually migrated)
P6 R8.0 to R8.2 => Using Extended Schema, Enterprise Reporting Database, own BI Publisher Reports => Check stept to be taken for migration
    Other questions are:
Which authentication method will you use (native, LDAP, SSO)? If not using native and you want to connect the BI Publisher then you need also to use that authentication there.
The migration itself is pretty easy if you take care that all sessions are closed (no users or unclosed primavera sessions settings  on that instance, stop all Applications, interfaces or Services connected to the instance. Cleanup your refrdel_deletes, logical_deletes and (if used before), extended Schema tables.
Then you can migrate with dbsetup, use additional Service Packs and Fixpacks (actually Service Pack 1) on the instances and then you can connect them into the environment by adding it to the P6 Configuration.
I mentioned you don't want to put all data into one final PMDB-Instance.
    Regards,
    Daniel

  • Is Primavera R8.3 a stable release like R8.1 & 8.2?

Hi, Please share your experience and thoughts about the Primavera R8.3 release.
    Is R8.3 a stable release like R8.1 or 8.2?.
Is there any major technology or UI changes or  mainly talking about additional capabilities within the same framework as R8.2?

There are also any left over drivers that were initially installed on the G5 when it first came out, or when the last erase and install was done. If any of those drivers were not updated in the process of getting up to 10.4.11, they may not work with the dual processor G5. Furthermore, there is a strong likelihood anything that does not get installed directly on the dual processor from the get go, will not be dual processor aware, or have any dual processor drivers. So you might as well be making your dual processor G5 a single processor G5. Not exactly what you would want. Any further upgrading that is not an erase and install would continue to exhibit the behavior of the old drivers. If it works, don't expect it to work much better in the newer machine until you actually perform a migration from the old machine's drive. If it does, you'll be lucky. Many people though have had kernel panics and simply other issues which can only be explained by system specific drivers being installed.

  • Primavera P6 v7.0 SP3 API problems

    Hi Team,
I've upgraded my test installation from P6 v7.0 to P6 v7.0 SP3. First I did the Client, then the Database and then the API. For all I followed the instructions in the readme files.
Now when I want to add a database to our API driven Java application, the API does correctly list all available databases, but thows an error when I try to login to the database.
The C:\P6IntegrationAPI\PrimaveraLogs\P6WebAccess.html displays the error below:
Error: DBEngine.getEncoding: Error creating bean with name 'eventingService' defined in class path resource [com/primavera/bre/integration/intgssconf.xml]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError
Any thoughts on this? Is the login API call changed? I didn't find any changes in the API call.
    Any input is highly appriciated.

Do you need an updated JDK to recompile the API?

  • New to Primavera support

    Hello,
I am new to Primavera support and need to get information concerning version levels and upgrade paths. Our company uses Primavera Expedition V10 and P3, V3. What are the current version levels of these products and what is the upgrade path to the current version. We have a current support contract on these products. Thanks.

For Expediton, I think you can upgrade to Primavera Contract Management 12.1 or 13.0. For P3, you would have to move to P6 Project Management.

  • Primavera P6 v6.2.1 apply service pack 3 without dba privilege

    Hi,
I have a Primavera P6 Project Management v6.2.1 database and admuser has no dba rights. It has only the privileges like connect, resource, select any dictionary, create job only. I tried to apply service pack 3 but it failed since it has no dba rights for admuser.
Admuser don't have dba rights or create any view, create any synonym privileges also.
If anyone applied service pack 3 on primavera p6 v 6.2.1 database schema by using manually running scripts. Please update me.
    Regards,
    Gokulnath

You need to involve your DBA in this. The only supported method of upgrading is going to be to grant admuser the appropriate role/permissions required which you will need Sytem access to do.
It doesn't make sense to try and circumvent this when it is as simple as "GRANT DBA to admuser", run the SP3 update, and "REVOKE DBA FROM admuser". Additionally you likely need to apply the SP3 client update to all users of that database (not sure exactly what SP3 entails as I have never installed it).

  • Primavera Project Management 5.0 & Windows 7

I am currently working with a customer who just upgraded their environment to Windows 7 and I'm having issues connecting to the database on their server after installing the Primavera client. I found a could posts on this forum and others, however nothing concrete regarding compatibility with W7. I am able to connect to the database from another computer, and I have everything configured the same way, however the client keeps returning a bad public user or password error. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Could you please upload the complete error here. There can be various reasons for failure.
Try to connect to PMDB from SQL*Plus using PUBUSER. If this does not work then try to check your tnsnames entry.

  • Primavera Risk analysis v8.6

    AMA,
As I remember, it was only an online download that I performed in 2009. Found at the Oracle/Primavera site.
    My current version = 8.6.0018

  • Primavera 6v8.3 SP3 for MS SQL?

I am trying to apply SP3 to my PMDB MS SQL instance. I browse and find the 3 following matches below.
So the only relevant one is the first "Oracle Primavera P6 R8.3 SP3 (Patch)"
I go to the readme.html and find this:
"This patch for P6 can be used only with an Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM Release 8.3.3.0 database (Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server are supported)."
No idea why it indicates it can only be used with 8.3.3.0 database but ignoring that, where is the documentation for P6v8.3 MS SQL? I found the MS SQL database scripts in that download package but I don't see any documentation for upgrading MS SQL.

    Hi,
The steps are noted in the Upgrading the Database section in the Readme file. Basically you just need to executed the sql script and then run dbsetup.bat/sh.
If you have access to MOS, you can also use My Oracle Support Community: Primavera - PRIM (MOSC)

Could you confirm if the above mentioned verision of Primavera run on Windows 7 64-bit OS or on Windows 7 32-bit OS or if it can run on both Windows version?
Awaiting for an answer, I thank you in advance.

Hi. I too am attempting to run Primavera 6.2.1 on a Windows 7 machine. I have downloaded and installed the remastered 64 bit version of the client. Have Oracle client installed. But get TNS errors and am unable to connect to the database. Only one user has upgraded to Windows 7 and other than reverting to XP, have no idea how to make it work. Would appreciate any advice.

  • Data ingest into Primavera from a 3rd Party application

    Dear Primavera community,
Does any one know if a data ingest form a third party timekeeping application into Primavera 8.2.1.22 is possible.
I was told that there might be a limitation and an upgrade to Primavera 8.3 is needed before being able to make any data ingests.
    Is that true?
If not what capabilities in regards to data ingest exist for version 8.2.1.22
    Many Thanks
    chkl0003

    Hi,
Bringing 3rd party data into P6 is certainly possible - they have exposed a few ways to do this. Primavera Web Services, Primavera Integration Programming Interface, Primavera Software Development Kit, Primavera Gateway or even just excel imports through the client.
You can either code an integration interface yourself, get someone to code one for you or use an off the shelf tool such as Legare that takes the hard-work of coding away so you can just map the data.
The one thing you can't do is just insert the data directly into the interface.
Unfortunately I can't answer the one key question you might have which is can you insert the raw hour per activity per day - i'm not sure if this gets exposed through any of the interfaces, you can certainly add the data at an activity level but possibly not at the timesheet level like you would get if you were using the Primavera timesheet application (Progress Reporter).

  • Unattended install problems: Primavera P6

I am having problems with my Primavera P6 install. I am
using a setup.iss file to automate the install however the
setup.log file shows an error indicating that my setup.iss
file is wrong. Has anyone else run into this error? thanks.

We just ran Primavera unattended installations and had
a lot of problems, both with the scripted
uninstallation of the previous version (you can't
upgrade in an unattended installation) and the proper
execution of the installer once launched. However, our
setup.iss file didn't seem to be the culprit.<br
    />
Can you post what error you are
getting and whether you are upgrading and from what
    version?
    One thing you should
be aware of if you're upgrading is that your existing
DB connections on the workstations will NOT work
unless created in the P6 version. P6 apparently uses a
different encryption algorithm or parameters and
existing connections won't work unless overwritten.
This is a HUGE problem if you have multiple
connections to test environments as we do. Creates a
    manual upgrade nightmare.
