Upgrading PS 5.0 LE to CS3

Wondering is anyone can help me with this question....
I want to upgrade my PS 5.0 LE to the latest version CS3. When I call adobe the upgrade price for the version I have it's $549, but any other version 7.0 or higher is only $199. Is there truly a difference in the contents of the upgrade or is adobe charging more because my version just older and costed less?? I just want to purchase the CS3 upgrade for $199 but I'm afraid it won't work even though my gut feeling is that it will. Does anyone have an answer for me??

WOW Thanks for all of your advice! I LOVE this forum, it's more helpful than everything else I've tried. What I didn't mention is that I worked 4 years with photoshop 7 on my old computer which was a PC/Dell, before that I worked 8 years in photoshop on my mac (don't remember which versions, 6.0??). I purchased photoshop 5.0 LE to get by until I could afford to buy a newer version, I don't do graphic design any more so I thought I could get by with the 5.0 LE. I just wanted it for photo alteration/re-touching/saving photos for my website. I have not even tried the 5.0 because as you know I can't load it. It sounds like if I've been working on 7.0 (I know it backwards!) I won't like the Elements 6?? I downloaded the trial and I can't open it, VERY frustrating! It's hard to explain, there's not really an icon that shows "application" I tried downloading it twice and the same thing happened, I literally can't open it.
I'm not sure what to do because I feel like the CS3 is overkill for what I'd use it for (and expensive). The cheapest I found the upgrade from 5.0LE was $466. Yet, I don't want to be annoyed with elements 6 either.
Can any of you compare Elements 6 it to photoshop 7 ??

  • Premiere Pro CS3  (Version 3.0) will not start following upgrade to Windows 8-- rest of CS3 is fine

    Recently upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro;
next time I tried to open Premiere Pro 3.0 (Adobe Master Collection CS3), splash screen scrolled normally through files being loaded until "SolidComposite.AEX", where it white-screened & crashed.
    Tried removing that file, it crashed on the next ".AEX" file; removed all ".AEX" files, it began crashing on ".dll" files;
kept removing THEM, just for the heck of it, until the software loader couldn't even start.
    I popped in the CS3 disc to repair the installation-- on the entire suite, for good measure;
re-booted & started Premiere-- crashed at the exact same point.
    Uninstalled and then re-installed Premiere-- the entire suite in fact, since there are so many common processes;
couple of hours later, re-booted & started Premiere-- same exact thing at the same exact point.
I found this same problem in at least a half-dozen threads, going back to '07--
and several of them even mentioned the same exact file as the trigger for the crash!
Unfortunately, not one of those threads has ever ended with an accurate diagnosis of the problem,
nor a solution more insightful than reinstalling both the CS & the OS.
    I don't want to abandon Windows 8...
but on the other hand, I just can't afford to pony up another grand to upgrade the CS Suite again, either...
Besides: CS3 is everything I need, and it has worked wo well for so long--
even now, Premiere Pro is the only software in the suite with a problem!!
(I used Photoshop to create the above screencap)
So I'm hoping against hope that one of you techno-gurus may have come across this ITRW--
    and actually SOLVED IT!!

Thanks for your prompt reply, John-- and for NOT simply advising me to spend my kid's tuition on more of your company's products...
    Actually, I had tried the "Run as Administrator" option already, having found it in one of those other threads;
there was no change in the sequence described above.
I decided to try another possible solution which I read about in one of those other threads: opening Premiere from a different account.
    Incredibly, it WORKED-- sort of...
I got a couple of popups advising me that missing codecs had to be installed-- and upon completion, Premiere opened!
Here's an interesting note: the last file to load was still "SolidComposite.AEX"-- and the "White Screen" I kept seeing was Premiere opening normally.  The next thing that displayed was the normal  dialog box "Open/New Project"-- I entered a new project name, and Premiere started normally. I even added a few video files as a test... all opened normally.
    I returned to the Admin account to see if the fix was in here, too;
but clearly the war wasn't over, over here...
    It now appears that some personal setting in the Admin account is causing Premiere to close itself;
I've been reading about the layered security measures embedded into Windows 8-- I'm suspecting the conflict lies there...
I ran the Windows Troubleshooter & got this:
both MS & Adobe confirm that CS3 is fully compatible--here's my sytem info:
    Since I seem to have established a fall-back position that lets me use Premiere, my crisis becomes a mere conundrum;
but I know this is gonna gnaw at me anyway, & I'm hoping that this new information might suggest further troubleshooting options to someone who understands the Adobe software and/or the Windows software better than I do!
Speaking as someone who has found many solutions on forums like this over the years, I assure you:
for every person whose post you reply to, there are many more whom you will never know you have helped!!!

  • CS5 to CS5.5 Upgrade. Will it work on CS3?

CompUSA has a Product Upgrade from CS5 to CS5.5.
    Will it work on CS3?

I don't want to purchase the upgrade, only to find out that it won't work.

    No, it won’t work.
Buy the CS3 to CS5.5 upgrade and you’ll save 10% and get a free upgrade to CS6 when it ships.

  • Upgrading from Illustrator 10:  CS2 or CS3? (CS4 and CS5 do not run on my Mac)

Provided I'm able to find a legitimate copy of the upgrade version from a reputable source, which one is the highest Mac version that one can upgrade from Illustrator 10?  CS2 or CS3?  Higher versions won't run on my PPC Mac anyway.
I'm asking now because I just finished upgrading my ancient Acrobat Standard 5.x to Acrobat Professional 8 for under $29, shipped.  It turned out to be a sealed, unopened box, and I've registered it with Adobe already and collected the registration incentive received from Adobe (11 hours of training at lynda.com).
Any input will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    CS4 requires OS10.4.11 or newer.
Basically, you can go all the way to CS4 or anything short of that. Without moving past the PPC chip and OS10.4.11.
Since CS4 will work, CS3 will certainly work. I believe CS3 required OS 10.4.8 or newer. Checking my disk.... yup 10.4.8 or newer. I would simply look for whatever you can find, short of CS5. That itself may sort out what you can purchase.
Actually thinking upgrades.. you're right. Only 3 versions. So for "upgrade" you're limited to CS3 from Ai10. CS3 will run great on a PPC with 10.4.11. I'd search for that if possible. I wouldn't settle for CS2.

  • Anyone upgrade to Snow Leopard and runs CS3 or CS4?

Hi all. I'm looking to upgrade my Mac from tiger to snow leopard, but I wanted to make sure there weren't any problems beforehand. Has anyone upgraded to Snow Leopard? Have you had any problems running CS3 or CS4 since?
    Thanks.

Works fine for me on a 2008 unibody MBP. Only a couple bugs that I can live -- neither affect workflow or CS4 functionality.
    A) As with Leopard, some programs have an issue with closing. About half the time when you close Ai or Dw the program closes fine -- then it tells you it crashed. A bit annoying, but I just go ahead and send the error report, dosent affect much, although if you've changed any preferences they might get lost. Adobe's prob gotten several hundred crash reports from me on that one :∫
    B) Occasionally when you switch from one app to another and you try to go back it only will switch only when you click the icon on the bottom -- otherwise the app you want will just switch back to the other app -- I think it's a snow leopard bug, but seems to affect Flash and AE. Very rarely however.
I've been using Snow Leopard w/ CS4 since release day for prob 14 hours a day 6 days a week and these are my observations.
Go for it dude, you'll love 10.6 -- Use CCC before that way if it's not functioning properly you can aways go back.
It should be noted, I have not tested any third party plug-ins yet. After Effects by itself 9.0.2 has no issues that I can tell.

  • Upgrading to CS5 Master Collection with CS3 Design Premium Suite

I just bought CS5 Creative Suite Master Collection on Tigerdirect.com. I noticed there wasn't any details about what version of software you can upgrade from (such as Master Collection or Design Premium etc)  I currently have CS3 Design Premium Software (an upgraded version from CS1 or whatever).  Will I be able to upgrade to the CS5 Creative Suite Master Collection by using my CS3 Design Premium serial number?

Only if you bought the right upgrade. Here's the correct item on Amazon: http://amzn.to/b4XQJ3
Note the list price is $1,299. Amazon has it for about $1,239. If you paid significantly less than that you bought the wrong one.

  • Upgrading from CS2 design premium to CS3 design premium

Can I just buy the upgrade? The phone customer service person said I could, but CS3 has programs CS2 doesn't (i.e. Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks). Does anyone have some insight on this?

Should make no difference. CS3 upgrade will give you Dreamweaver, Flash and now Fireworks. The upgrade is the same as the full version except for one imprtant detail: you'll need the Install disk and serial number from CS2.

  • Upgrade UK Studio v8 to US CS3 Web Premium

I note the significant price difference between the UK and US
    prices for an
upgrade from Macromedia Studio v8 and Adobe Creative Suite 3
    Web Premium.
I am in the UK and have bought the previous versions at UK
    prices but this
does not make financial sense this time around. Will I have
    activation
problems if I buy the CS3 upgrade while in the US and bring

You're not the only person to find the price differential
    unreasonable.
I am not a lawyer, but read the CS3 Licence Agreement:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/Gen_WWCombined-CS3-20060817_1651.pdf
Clause 9 prevents you from exporting the software or using it
    "in any
manner prohibited by the United States Export Administration
    Act or any
other export laws, restrictions or regulations".
I would be very surprised if US law prevents you from
    exporting a
    legally obtained copy of CS3.

  • Upgrade vs Full version of Dreamweaver CS3

    Several questions:
    1. I have DW MX 2004. If I upgrade to CS3 is it the same as
if I purchased a full new version of CS3? Will it function with

    2. If CS3 upgrade is the way to go. I presently have MX 2004

  • Upgraded to CS5, having problems uninstalling CS3

Now that I've used CS5 Design Premium for a couple of months, I'm ready to uninstall CS3 and get back some badly-needed HD real estate.
I ran the Adobe Uninstaller and 2 apps are still there plus a sprinkling of folders. Someone on the NAPP forum suggested I run the CS5 Clean Script tool (on the CS3 files), which I did, but it only found one file and deleted it. So I still have Bridge CS3 and InDesign CS3 apps hanging around.
Can I just drag all this stuff to the trash?
And after the uninstaller was finished I'm getting a message when I start PS CS5 that something important is missing and I need to re-install it.
Do I have to deactivate and uninstall first? Or can I just re-install over top of the existing from my Design Premium disc? Can I just re-install PS or do I have to do the whole bundle?
Dear Adobe, why isn't this easier? I would expect this kind of behavior from Windows...
By the way, I'm on an Intel MBP running OS 10.5.8
    Thanks

Why are you using inline CSS styles for this?
Use external CSS for site wide styles. A separate physical file to which all your HTML pages are linked.
    http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/DW-Link-Stylesheet.shtml
Use embedd CSS code for page specific styles.  Between the <head> & </head> tags in your HTML pages.
Use inline CSS rarely if ever.
HINT: The only time I use inline CSS is for HTML emails.

  • Is it time to upgrade from CS3 to CS4?

I currently use CS3 but have a version of CS4.  I edit full HD XD CAM EX and Cineform 25p.   The reason I have not yet switched to CS4 is because I am waiting for the bugs to be worked out.  I am now checking in to see how things have moved forward on that end.  Is it worth it to upgrade or should I stick with CS3 for now?

I currently use CS3 but have a version of CS4.
What is stopping you from trying it out? CS3 and CS4 can peacefully coexist on the same system. Given your decisiveness shown in the past, only you can decide and you have the means to make a decision. OTOH, I would not be surprised I you only make your decision when CS5 has been on the market for over a year.
Your question has about the same value as someone saying:
    "I have a Beamer 530 from 2004 and a Beamer 530 from 2009. Should I be driving the 2009 version?"

  • DW CS3 Upgrade - Old sites from DWMX

I just upgraded from Dreamweaver MX to DW CS3. How do I get
my sites to show in the pane, with local and remote views? I can
navigate to the folders, but that view shows all folders on the
drive, not as individual sites I can choose in the dropdown as
    before.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I couldn't
find the answer in the online help and the book DW CS3 book I
ordered hasn't arrived yet (just got the software yesterday).
    Thanks!

So - when you look at the Files panel, you do not see any
    sites listed in
the sites list? This means that your sites didn't migrate
    from DWMX
(although they should have, I believe). This would have
    nothing to do with
    the Macromedia/Adobe thing, though.
Anyhow, if that's the case, then go back into DMX, and using
    Site manger in
DW, one by one EXPORT your site defintions to some location
    on your drive.
Then go back into CS3, and IMPORT each of those definitions.

  • CS3/CS4 Upgrade

I installed CS3, I then bought a copy of CS4 upgrade and started to install it.
Part way through, when it asked for CS3 serial number the only product option was CS3 Extended. I then realised that the upgrade copy I had bought was CS4 Extended upgrade.
    I then aborted the upgrade.
The splash screen on CS3 about Photoshop now shows it as CS3 Extended even though it is just the normal version.
I bought a normal version of CS4 upgrade but it will not recognise the serial, it wants a valid CS3 Extended serial.
I uninstalled CS3 & CS4 Trial and then re-installed CS3, still the same problem with the solash screen showing it as CS3 Extended.
If I uninstalled CS3 again and deleted all registry entries to Photoshop would this solve my problem?
I have also tried the Adobe cleaner tool but this still left registry entries for Photoshop

If I uninstalled CS3 again and deleted all registry entries to Photoshop would this solve my problem?
Not at all. You need to delete the PCD database and any otehr asociated licensing and product identification files or simply manually deactivate everything, choosing to eradicate any stored serial numbers. Still, it wouldn't do anything for you, if you still had the wrong serials. Therefore do the only sensible thing - call phone support to sort this out. Nobody here can do that for you.

  • Adobe CS3 (32bit) upgrade to CS4 (64bit)

I currently run Adobe CS3 on a 32-bit platform, Windows XP Pro.  Due to recent hardware failures I am purchasing a new computer.  I plan to upgrade my hardware to support 64-bit Windows XP Pro.  I also want to upgrade my CS3  to CS4, to utilize the 64bit support.
Since CS3 does not install on a 64bit platform, how can I upgrade to CS4 on my new 64bit machine, or is this even possible?  I'm worried that I may have to purchase CS4 instead of upgrading due to compatibility issues with CS3 on 64bit machines.

I have vista Biz 64 bit on my new unit. When I try to install master collection CS3 on it the install happens and Bridge Acrobat and OnLocation work. All other programs say I need to re-install or there is a catistrophic failure on my license sub system. I tried switching to XP service pack 2 compatability but still can't get my other programs to start. Adobe customer support just refers to its memo about MC CS3 not supporting 64 bit but then says it should install if I go to a32 bit comp mode. please give more info if possible.. thanks

I just upgraded from Panther to Leopard and need to upgrade my PhotoShop 7.0 to CS3. What do I need to do to insure the upgrade is successful? And... what do I need to pull from my OS 9 before I delete it?

*"What do I need to do to insure the upgrade is successful? "*
You shouldn't have to do anything...just install CS3.
Regardless, since Photoshop is not an Apple product, you should post your questions on Adobe's discussion forums, rather than an Apple forum that focuses on the isntallation of OS X:
