Upgrading question regarding software to download for bo xi r2 to bo xi 3.1

We are going from BO XI R2 Enterprise to BO XI 3.1 Enterprise. I checked out the downloads section for BOX XI 3.1 and found these instances for downloads:
BOE XI 3.1 (SERVER/CLIENT TOOLS) WIN (under installs)
BOE XI3.1(SRVR/CLNT TOOLS) Patch WIN (under upgrades)
We are probably going to do a fresh install and then migrate the data over using the import wizard. Is the first one the one we need to download? Also, if we are going to do an in-place upgrade, wouldn't the first version (under installs) be able to do detect and perform the upgrade without having two separate download instances?

No, Xi3.0 users have to use upgrade package for in-place upgrades. Full package won't work for that purpose.
Why would anyone publish 2 packages if one of them was useless ?
To confuse customers on purpose ?!?!?
Each package has it's own niche, it's own usage scenario and advantages over each other.

Hi Navin ,
You can get it done on WAS 6.4, EP 6.0 SP15, NWDS with 2004. This all is available for download on SDN . You might want to check with the client if they wish to get certified on the latest version released . In that case you might want to do it with the release 2004s.

Question regarding the factory SDRAM for 15" iMac Flat Panel G4 700MHz

I upgraded my iMac to the max 1GB SDRAM a few years ago. When I did this, the Apple tech removed my factory installed SDRAM chip from the SODIM? slot and installed the SDRAM I bought into the two (inside and outside) slots.
I still have the factory SDRAM chip lying around, but I do not know nor can I seem to find any 411 regarding the factory SDRAM that was shipped with my computer. The factory chip I have doesn't say how much SDRAM it is, and now I can't remember what my computer shipped with. Does anybody have the same computer as me, and if so, do you know how much SDRAM was shipped with this specific iMac?
Another thing.. I am thinking about getting a used eMac or an iMac CRT for my mom. Does anybody know if this factory SDRAM chip will be compatable with certain eMacs and iMac CRT's? The chip says it's made by Samsung Korea, and it's PC133U-333-542. Does PC 133 SDRAM only belong in the 'outside' SODIM slot, or can PC 133 also go into the 'inside' slot.
I hope i'm making sense to somebody; I don't know if these are considered stupid questions, but I really need to know, so I'm asking. =)

Niel, thank you for coming back again.. I saw from reading your post and subsiquently from the links mrtotes provided that there are two user accessable RAM slots inside the iMac CRT. Very good news.. i'll definitely keep in mind that the slot loaders are easier than the tray loaders when making my decision as well. Thanks again!

Upgrading questions regarding applications

Hey all,
I am upgrading from my black macbook running snow leopard to a new macbook pro 15''. A quick question about my applications- I have several licensed programs (Microsoft Office, Photoshop, some video games, etc.). When I move everything over from my time machine to the new computer, will I have to reenter these codes? I'm afraid they've been misplaced over time, and I don't want to have to pay again for these applications.

Good luck. Also, there is a great app that I couldn't live without, called Wallet (http://www.acrylicapps.com/wallet). It's probably the best $20 I've spent. This will keep all your personal information secure and help organize serial numbers, web passwords, bank accounts, etc. You can customize the categories to add as many options as you need. I don't know how much money this has saved me over the years as I surely would have forgotten serial numbers and would have had to re-buy the software.

Questions regarding Adobe Reader Extensions for Adobe Livecycle.

Hi,
I'm relatively new to Adobe products, having just started to use Adobe Livecycle over the last couple of weeks. I've produced a set of interactive forms for field engineers to use. When completed, they will submit the xml data via email. However, there will be numerous occasions where they will need to stop in the middle of data collection and come back at a later point to finish, hence the need to locally save the information before submission.
I understand this is where Adobe reader extensions would come in, unlocking this functionality.
At the moment, i'm a bit of a loss on several points regarding how reader extensions work and i was wondering if anybody could fill in the gaps:
1. Are they seperate modules that bolt in into the main Livecycle application?
2. As these forms will be used off line, i would like to set the permissions to the pdf locally. From what i read, Reader Extensions is a server product. Is this correct, or can i use Reader Extensions to set these permissions before publishing the adobe form?
3. Where can i get hold of Reader Extensions and how much do they cost? I have been reading information on similar topics on this forum (dating 3-4 years ago) that say reader extensions are comparitavely expensive to a Adobe Pro/Livecycle licence. ($50,000 upwards) Is this correct? If so, is there a cheaper alternative to achieve the same outcome?

Reader Extensions can be bought as a module in LiveCycle. There is a subset of RE functionality that exists in Acrobat. The ability to save locally is part of Acrobat. In both cases you woudl RE the form before distributing it, hence when the user gets your form they are ready to go. You can download a trial version of the server product. As far as pricing goes you woudl be better to talk to an Adobe salesrep as there are discounts for certain situations as well as different pricing options. If you decide tp gp the Acrobat route you ar limited, by licence, to distribute your form to a max of 500 users.

11gR2 Post-Upgrade Questions Regarding tnsnames, listener, pwd, and init

Hello.
Am planning on upgrading a significant # of RHEL5 10gR2 RAC and non-RAC DBs to 11gR2 (11.2.0.3.1, specifically). The servers are still not available to me, but I have been poring on the install and upgrade documents as well as referencing several blogs of users who have done them. I have almost literally read the guides verbatim. I will be using the DBUS - not doing a manual upgrade. Since I cannot test of the upgrade yet, I have a few questions related to POST_UPGRADE actions in terms of the listener, tnsnames, password, and init files.
1.) The upgrade document indicates on p 3-24, "DBUA then proceeds to create new configuration files (parameter and listener files) in the new Oracle home." Will the init file (assuming spfile will be copied as we are using one everywhere now) have deprecated parameters REMOVED after it is copied over to the NEW/TARGET home?
2.) While the install/upgrade guides do not call for it, several blogs indicate that the tnsnames and password files should be copied over from the old/source DB network/admin location ($TNSNAMES/admin) to the new/target DB /network/admin location. Do I need to do this or with the DBUA also copy them over? If all 4 files (tnsnames/listener/spfile/password) are copied over, I am not sure why the document doesn't indicate this.
3.) Other than the spfile being copied over and modified, I don't see any difference between the old/source and new/destination copies of the listener, tnsnames, and password file. Do you agree?
I am just trying to figure out what really need to be copied over and what doesn't in lieu of the DBUA doing it for me.
Thank you all for your help. If I had HW to test this out, I would do it. In the meantime, I am writing the procedures to do the actual upgrade.

If you are upgrading an existing Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control or if you are configuring a new Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control for the new Oracle Database 11g release, then the listener must be running before upgrading Oracle Enterprise Manager. If DBUA detects that an Oracle Enterprise Manager upgrade or configuration is requested, and DBUA does not see a listener running, then it prompts you and starts the default listener in either of these cases.
running netca from new home results in creating a new listener.ora file, this could complain that listener is already used if the old listener is running with the same name or port (default 1521) taken.
I think the "+DBUA reloads the listener.ora file in both the old and new Oracle Database environments.+" which point c in that list has to be taken in context with the two previous points a, b, where the usecase is shown how services , entries are removed from one listener.ora file and added to another. So to make sure those services are started from the "now" correct home those listener.ora are reloaded.
If you look in the 11.1 upgrade guide this text is written as "DBUA removes the entry of the upgraded database from the old listener.ora file and reloads the listener of the old database." http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28300/upgrade.htm#i1011982
If after the upgrade old oracle home is not used anymore (no database is running out of that) you can ignore the listener.ora on the old home.

Exchange 2010 SP2 to SP3 upgrade question regarding Forefront

When doing an upgrade from 2010SP2 to SP3 is it recommended stopping all exchange services manually before installing the update? I know there is a prereq of stopping forefront or you may have an issue with services starting. I have not run into
this issue in my test environment. I do not know if the SP3 install requires any checks of services to be running or not.
I have also notices on a cas/ht server with forefront installed, you can't stop forefront without shutting down the transport service. So is it best to just shut all services down first before doing the upgrade?

Question regarding ASO application in Essbase 11 version

I have a question regarding the ASO applications for telecom company built in Essbase 11 version. Please provide your feedback on the design.
The ASO application has the following number of Dimensions:

The data is mostly sparse. Does this design yield a good performance. Should I change some of the attributes to UDAs to increase the performance.I think Attribute dimensions are more flexible than UDAs but it affects the performance of the retrieval.

In ASO attribute dimensions are treated like regular dimensions, That is to say they are materalized just like a regular dimension. Changing them to UDA's won't buy you the same performance as having them as dimensions will. The one nice thing about Attributes in ASO cubes (and BSO cubes) is you don't clutter us the screen with dimensions that are not used a lot. If your attrubite dimensions are used often in your ASO cube, there would be no performance difference if you made them regular dimensions.

This weekend I had a look at the webinar on Tips and Tricks for Implementing and Optimizing Formulas in IP.
Im currently working on an IP-implementation and encounter the following when getting more in-depth.
Id appreciate very much if you could comment on the questions below.
1.) I have a question regarding optimization 3 (slide 43) about Conditions:
If the condition is equal to the filter restriction, then the condition can be removed.
I agree fully on this, but have a question on using the Planning Function (PF) in combination with a query as DataProvider.
In my query I have a filter in the Characteristic restriction.
It contains variables on fiscal year, version. These only allow single value entry.
The DataProvider acts as filter for my PF. So Id suppose I dont need a condition for my PF since it is narrowed down on fiscal year and version by my query.
a.) Question: Is that correct?
I just one to make sure that I dont get to many records for my PF as input. How detrimental for performance is it to use conditions anyway?
2.) I read in training BW370 (IP-training) that a PF is executed for the currently set filter (navigational state) in the query and that characteristics that are used in restricted keyfigures are ignored in the filter.
So, if I use version in the restr. keyfig it will be ignored.
Questions:
a.) Does this mean that the PF is executed for all versions in the system or for the versions that are in the filter of the Characteristic Restrictions and not the currently set filter?
b.) Id suppose the dataset for the PF can never be bigger than the initial dataset that is selected by the query, right?
c.) Is the PF executed anaway against navigational state when I use filtering? If have an example where I filter on field customer thus making my dataset smaller, but executing the PF still takes the same amount of time.
d.) And I also encounter that the PF is executed twice. A popup comes up showing messages regarding the execution. After pressing OK, it seems the PF runs again...
3.) If I use variables in my Planning Function I dont want to fill in the parameter VAR_VALUE with a value. I want to use the variable which is ready for input from the selection screen of the query.
So when I run the PF it should use the BI-variable. Its no problem to customize this in the Modeler. But when I go into the frontend the field VAR_VALUE stays empty and needs a value.
Question:
a.) What do I enter here? For parameter VAR_NAME I use the variable name, but what do I use for parameter VAR_VALUE? Also the variable name?
4.) Question regarding optimization 6 (slide 48) about Formulas on MultiProviders:
'If the formula is using data of only one InfoProvider but is defined on a MultiProvider, the the complete formual should be moved to the single base InfoProvider'.
In our case we have three cubes in the MP, two realtime and one normal one. Right now we have one AggrLevel (AL) on op of the MP.
For one formula I can use one cube so it's better to cretae another AL with the formula based on that cube.
For another formula I need the two realtime cubes. This is interesting regarding the optimization statement.
Question:
a.) Can I use the AL on the MP then or is it better to create a new MP with only these two cubes and create an AL on top of that. And than create the formula on the AL based on the MP with the two cubes?
This makes the architecture more complex.

I encounter that the dataset that is locked depends on the restrictions made in the 'Characteristic Restrictions'-part of the query.
Restrictions in the 'Default Values'-part are not taken into account. In that case all data records of the characteristic are locked.
Q1: Is that correct?
To give an example: Assume you restrict customer on hierarchy node in Default Values. If you want people to plan concurrently this is not possible since all customers are locked then. When customer restriction is moved to Char Restr the system only locks the specific cutomer hier node and people can plan concurrently.
Q2: What about variables use in restricted keyfigures like variable for fy/period? Is only this fy/period locked then?
Q3: We'd like to lock on a navigational attribute. The nav attr is put as a variable in the filter of the Characteristic Restrictions. Does the system then only lock this selection for the nav.attr? Or do I have to change my locking settings in RSPLSE?

Questions regarding new functionalities in EhP 4 - Reporting Financials 2

Dear Forum,
in a project we would like to use some new functionalities from Reporting Financials 2 - ie. Datasource 0FI_AA_20 for Depreciation and Amortization loading to BI for following years as this can not be done by old extractor.
We are know looking for reliable information about impact and changes that are made in ERP if we switch on the functionality Reporting Financials 2 via SFW5? Will old extracors work nevertheless? Will all reports in ERP work without problems? Is there any impact on business processes? Or is this just additional functionality which will not affect current implementation?
Can anybody give information about this?

You are already good level of for db tier which is nice, but you need to check related docs for othere requiriment. You also need R12.1.1 setup which you can download from e-delivery.
