Upgrading questions - help anybody ?
howdy folks I am currently running Logic version 6.4 on a G5 Dual processor w/ 1.5 gigs of RAM. The system is stable & I use up to 24 tracks of audio plus 24 channels of virtual EXS24 instruments at once without problem. But I want to upgrade and run up to 48 channels of virtual instruments plus the memory-intensive Synthology Ivory Grand Piano software too. What system, memory and software upgrades are recommended to accomplish this ?

I used to be using G5 Dual Processor as well...Most of the time,i am using JamPacks and EXS24 for Music Arrangement and Mixing without exporting them to Audio files total about 30 Tracks (included Audio tracks).
I found that my CPU usage was fully occupied.From the first,i doesn't realise that's CPU usage problem,so that i upgrade my RAM to 16GB (full ram)...haaa...what you guess? USELESS...problem still appear...most of the time system overload as well...
Early of 2008 i got my MacPro 2.8 (8 core) with 6GB Ram (11+22) and run with LP8...huh...NICE,Wonderful and Powerful!!!
Now.What i felt is,CPU usage is a very beginning and important upgrading from you.2ndly,might ask yourself,did you use any 3rd party sampler or plugin? if Yes,you s'ld try your usage of RAM from Start with 4GB.3rd,Hard Drive transfering speed.What's the speed of your Drive?are you using external h.drive for your project?My MacPro do provide 4 slots of H.Drive...so,using internal transfering are more safety and not really easy to CRASH drive (ya,i did a lot of bad experience with external drive,now all ext.drive are only be my backup drive,not project drive)
So,what you c'ld consider is:~
1)New MacPro for HighSpeed and CPU usage
2)More Ram if you are using a lot of 3rd party plugin or sampler
3)Project Drive (transfering/open/work in between internal drive which is upto 4 slot)

Our project is using Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.3.0 database and Oracle Dev Tools 6i Patch 3 (Form/Report Builder 6.0.8.12.1).
The SQL*Plus version that comes with this version is 8.0.6.0.0. We would like to upgrade to version 8.1.7.0.0. without having to upgrade the entire tool set [don't ask me why- politics ;)]. How can I do this? Is it even possible? I found some documentation that said all that was required for SQL Plus version 8.1.7.0.0 was Oracle 8i 8.1.7.0.0 database, which we have.
I grabbed Dev Tools 6i Patch 10 from MetaLink and installed in a seperate directory from one that our developers use as a test [for other unrelated issues]. Well, Patch 10 also comes with SQL Plus verison 8.0.6.0.0, even though it came out in early 2002, well after version 8.1.7.0.0 was released.
One of our test boxes has Oracle 9i iSuite installed, which does have SQL Plus 8.1.7.0.0. As a lark, I tried various was of simply moving its version (the .exe) and related .dlls to our existing test Dev 6i bin directory. No luck- all sorts of bizarre error messages. After I got through all the .dlls errors, I now get a
"The procedure entry point OCIUserCallbackRegister could not be located in the dll OCI.dll", even though the updated OCI.dll is in the bin.
I assume this all means that to upgrade from SQL Plus 8.0.6.0.0 to 8.1.7.0.0 it has to be installed [and not simply dropped]. Since the latest version of our tools [Dev 6i Patch 10] only has version 8.0.6.0.0, how can I install it?

I recently had to reinstall my Mac os 10.4.8 over a crashed mac (archive & install) when I did that my live type, motion, compressor will not open
I have my original discs FCP 4.5, Fcp 5.0 ON DISC with downloaded updates 5.1 & 5.1.2
Do I need to go all the way back to 4.5 to get all the original programs reinstalled? or is 5.0 all the "actual programs"?

FCP 5.1.2 works fine but again not live type, motion, compressor any easier solution?If I had to do an OS re-install, I'd just go ahead
and backup the boot drive, then reformat and do a
clean install of everything. But that's just me.

all my other programs photoshop, PPT etc works fine just the FCP stuff what is the reccommended way of reinstalling FCP, Live type, Motion, compressor etc can I START with 5.0 and just do my 5.1 & 5.12 upgrades?

Downgrade Mavericks to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups made while on Snow Leopard, then you may do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion/Mountain Lion files. -

I was trying to test opaque font (the string has a foreground color and a background color), but i can't find the method for doing that.
i can change foreground by Graphics2D.setPaint(Color.black).
Anybody know how to change the background of the string?
Thanks!Hi. The way I'd do it would be to use the font metrics to find the length of a string and draw a rectangle and then drawstring over the rectangle. If you want an example, I can post it although I suspect theres a better way.

Trying to make a photobook but can't get pages to open by double clicking. Photos from Iphoto 9.6. Help anybody?
What do you mean? Are you not able to switch from "All pages" view of the book to a single page view by double-clicking a selected page? Or what is the problem?
Or can you not open the book at all from the source list? -

Security upgrade question - I have a 4S phone v6.01 with an upgrade to IOS 7.04 already downloaded and ready for install. I would like to install the 6.1.6 security upgrade instead. How do I delete the ios7 in the queue or have the 6.1.1 pushed as an option to the phone?
You can't install iOS 6.1.6 on that device and must update it to 7.0.6.

OXS server 3 with mavericks, it will not load up the assistant with open directory and will not allow me to use old opeopen directory and will not allow me to use old open directory it was not a clean install just upgrade. any help or advise appreciated as i really need the server.
I wonder if the disk being referred to is actually your iPod which is not plugged in. Maybe something has stuck thinking the iPod should be there.
Try completely removing all the iTunes related programs according to this method.

Restart you PC and see if startup improves.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Security' and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
