Upgrading R / 3 4.7 system to ECC6.0 with EHP4 along with windows 2008

Hi All,
I am looking for your feedback about the plan for upgrading our Landscape to ECC 6. with EHP4 from R/34.7E.
Current Environment: R/3 4.7X110 with SQL 2000 in 32 bit windows 2003
Planning to upgrade to the level of : ECC6.0 with EHP4 64 bit windows 2008, SQL 2005 Database
Based on the previous experience in upgrade I have planned in the following ways.
Since my basis component is in the level of 63, its possible for me to restore the SQL 2000 database in SQL 2005 (Using System copy tool )
Step 1: Migration of OS / DB using system copy tool (R/3 4.7 with SQL 2005 in 64 bit Windows 2003 ), Then will leave the system for testing for some period and after the confirmation, planned to start the upgrade
Step 2: By meeting all the prerequisites, Planned to upgrade to ECC6.0 with EHP4 on the OS / DB upgraded system.
Step 3: Once the upgrade completed / With the confirmation from the functional and technical consultants, I planned to upgrade the windows 2003 to windows 2008 using system copy tool.
Note: I am not using SQL 2008 - Project decision.
The above mentioned plan is the only way(proper way) for doing such activities or is there any other way to shorten the project.
I should not ask the below question (Even after reading PAM and SAP note 1054740), But kindly regret me for asking this one, out of own curiosity, i am asking the below one.
1. Is there any possible to install SAP R / 3 4.7 in windows 2008 with 2005 (This will help me to shorten the project). I am completely aware that SAP wont support R/3 4.7 with windows 2008, if its not at all possible is there any other work around for me to shorten? Let me know your suggestions and thoughts
Your valuable inputs will help me to proceed further with the plans (I surfed the SDN and read master guides already) . I really want to make sure , the way which i am going is the right one.
Thanks and Regards
Vijay Kumar

Hi Jitendra,
Hope you should check the PAM again , Its supported for sure and also for upgrading to EHP4 - SQL 2005 is the Prerequiste.
Hi Abhi and Others,
Thanks for all your support.
I have successfully completed the project for my landscape and it was a great success too.
As you all said, since I had the hardware availability and time frame as well. Hence, I have tried both the possibilities.
Note :I would prefer and stick with the SAP proposed and supported way and even for my project I have followed the same. So I would recommend to stick with SAP supported one.
But for the own technical interest I have tried the other option as well which is not supported by SAP and also faced some typical issues as well / but solved on my own with some tricks and other activities. So, this option is also possible but highly risked one and of course(more importantly) which is not supported by SAP. So, i would recommend to go with the SAP recommended way.
Thanks for everyone and I am closing the thread
Regards
Vijay

  • "The data area passed to a system call is too small" NFS client Windows 2008 R2 SP1

    Hi
I need to map a Hyper-V virtual windows server to a UNIX folder, but when i made de mapping and tried to navigate in to the mapped unit and shows me:
"The data area passed to a system call is too small"
I tried too many things like adding a registry key (and windows 2008 r2 already has)
Use a similar account between Unix and Windows domain
I done the steps in the document:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753302(WS.10).aspx
And nothing, this is just frustrating, also I disabled the firewall in the virtual machine and the host server.
I have a Windows 2008 Domain R2 functionality and the virtual machine is Windows 2008 R2 too.
    The version of unix are:
    AIX6.1  x64
    AIX 6.3 x64
    AIX 5.1  x86
    Any Idea?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
You may perform the following troubleshooting suggestions:

Change how your NFS servers export the NFS shares and make them allow connections from high ports.

Add UseReservedPorts DWORD value under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Client for NFS\CurrentVersion\Default and set it to 1. Restart the Client for NFS service to allow
    the change to take effect.
For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft MSDN blog:

  • UPGRADE FROM ECC 5.0 TO ECC 6.0 Ehp4

    Hai,
Can any one tell me the upgrade strategy from ecc 5.0 to ecc 6.0 Ehp4,also before we upgrade to Ehp4 do we have to upgrade to ecc 6.0 ?If no plz provide me with the link for latest documentation on this .
    -regards
    Srinivas Bitra

    Hi Srinivas,
You can upgrade both in single shot.
You can include EHP4 along with ECC6.0 version upgrade. in BIND_PATCH phase upgade will prompts you to include EHPs if you want. so there you can include your EHP with SAP version upgrade.
You can get all these details in Upgrade guide.

  • Error Upgrading ICM from 7.2.4 to 8.5.2 on Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade from ICM 7.2.4 to ICM 8.5.2 on Windows 2008 R2 in lab. I am using the following procedure.
    Old system
    Domain controller Windows 2003
    Sprawler Windows 2003 ( Icm 7.2.4)
    New System
Domain Controller Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition
Sprawler Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition (SQL 2005 with SP4)
Taking the registry backup of the old system using registry utility.
Running the EDMT tool on the new 2008 Sprawler machine for technology refresh.
Running the ICM installer for Technology Refresh and selecting the registry and ICM patch (8.5.2)
System finishes the setup without any error and after reboot tries to install the patch.
At this point I get the attached error.
Has anyone faced such error while upgrading.
    Regards,
    Amir

    Hi Amir,
As per the attached screenshot, it prompts out that your system has not went through the MR of 8.0. I suspect that you cannot upgrade your version from 7.2.4 directly to 8.5. Instead you would need to upgrade yur current version to 8.0 and from 8.0 you can upgrade to 8.5
    Hope this helps!!!
    Cheers,
    Dass

  • ECC6.0 EHP4 upgrade best approach

    Hi,
What will be best approach for the following scenario:
    Source:
    OS - Windows2000,32bit
    DB - Oracle 10g
    SAP - R/3 4.7Ent,NUC
    Target:
    OS - Windwos2008,64bit
    DB - Oracle 11i
    SAP - ECC6.0 EHP4,NUC
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hello,
    >> After step1 is it really required to wait for 4 weeks to get the system stable before the start of upgrade as per the SAP recommendations?
It is recommended and you should but you are not forced to if you are comfortable in three weeks as well
    >> For step4,can we follow standard backup/restore method after the upgrade is completed?
Yes, it works fine. See an SAP Note for Win 2003 to Wind 2008 migration. It will be homogeneous system copy and backup/restore can be utilized.
    >> If we think of performing the unicode conversion, then which of the following methods mosts applicable?
Combined Unicode and upgrade at step2 or perform the upgrade first, then export the system and import in Windows2008 as unicode?
If you include Unicode Migration as well, then you have FOUR major things to do (after migration to 2003 64 bit) -
    1. Oracle Upgrade
    2. ECC Upgrade
    3. Unicode Migration
    4. Win 2008 Migration
    Option 1-
    A) You can combine the ECC upgrade with Unicode migration along with Oracle upgrade to 11g (Step 2 & 3) in 'Combined upgrade and Unicode' Procedure.
    B) Then you carry out win 2003 to win 2008 migration by either EXPORT/IMPORT or Backup/Restore
    Option 2 -
    A) You go ahead with only ECC upgrade (only the step 2)
    B) Then you go ahead EXPORT/IMPORT for - Unicode Migration + Win 2003 to Win 2008 + Oracle upgrade to 11g - all in One go
I would go with Option 2.
    Thanks

  • 46C- ECC6 upgrade with EHP4 SAP_BASIS package not found

We are executing an upgrade from 46C to ECC6 SR3 and binding in EHP4.
We have successfully downloaded EHP4 using Solution Manager MOPZ and
provided the generated "XML" file during the PREPARE.
During the phase EHP_INCLUSION, PREPARE is stopping with a message "No
matching SAINT package for 'SAP_BASIS' found".
The KB70102.SAR and KB70103.SAR packages from EHP4 have definitely been unpacked
and are available in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in and we have prompted PREPARE to search EPS/in but it just returns to the previous error after searching.
It appears from the logs that the upgrade is expecting a "SAINT"
install package for SAP_BASIS and does not consider the KB70102/3
    patches as acceptable?
Any clues as to why PREPARE is not accepting the SAP_BASIS packages and looking for a SAINT install?

Ok, I was able to download the K-701DHINSAPBASIS package from Service Marketplace and this resolved the SAP_BASIS problem.  Thank you Markus for this solution.
I also downloaded the SAP_ABA, SAP_BW, and the PI_BASIS components and unpacked those as well in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in.    My upgrade is now stuck asking for a SAINT package for SAP_ABA!  I'm sure the SAP_ABA install, K-701DHINSAPABA, is unpacked and available in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in.
The SAP_ABA files are definitely readable and there are entries in table PAT03_SDA for them.
I have a ticket open with SAP support but they have not had a solution yet for the SAP_ABA
Solution Manager failed to identify any of these packages as required in MOPZ.
I'm starting to wonder if anybody has ever done a 4.6C to ECC6 upgrade with EHP4 bound before?
Any ideas on the SAP_ABA would be appreciated.  Here's a section of the EHP_INCLUSION.LOG file from PREPARE.

  • Impact of upgrade of SAP R3 source system on BW system

    Hi Experts,
Could you please help me to list down the impacts on BW system due to upgrade of SAP R3 source system?
[1] Is there any impact if R3 is upgraded to Unicode restricted version from a version where Unicode restriction was not mandatory?
[2] With respect to delta loads what will be the threat?
[3] With respect to Business contents modifications by SAP's new upgraded version, can be there be any threat?
Any inputs will be appreciated... Thanks in advance!
    Regards, Somenath

Please specify which version of BW u r using.
A direct upgrade to ECC6.0 is possible from a minimum lower version of R/3 3.1i and not below that and coming to BW an upgrade to BI 7.0 is possible from a minimum lower version of BW 3.0B and not below that.
The compatibilty is possible with an addition of some Plug -In's or Patches.
There will not be much of problem,

  • HT1338 I am running on 10.5.8 and my mac says that I don't need system updates when clearly I do since I am running on Leopard. I have been trying to upgrade and my mac wont allow me? What's wrong with my macbook?

    I need help!

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

Try a Safe Boot: Restart holding down the shift key until you (hopefully) see a grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu. Any change?
How much RAM do you have installed?
