Upgrading ram and computer not booting dv7 tx laptop

I have an HP DV7 2018tx laptop running windows 7 64 bit, which supports up to 8gb of ram.
i have updated my bios as per HP websites advice, and still find that when i put the ram in, when i turn on the laptop i just get beeping, and the numlock and capslock lights flash. the ram fits in the slots fine
the ram is 2X AXL technology, 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHZ 200 pin SODIMM
these should work but are not. please can someone help me

Hello @moonlet,
I am sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with the memory upgrade.
Alright, here is what I would like you to do.  Remove any installed memory (original /default) memory. Then add the new memory to the laptop. Keep the other slot empty and see if it boots. If you have a second 4GB module then repeat the same process. Let me know the number of beeps you are hearing. I'm assuming that your laptop works fine with just the old memory, am I correct?
Also, you can confirm if the memory is defective or not using memtest86 (click here). Follow the instructions if you are to experiment with the memory tester.
I am hoping to hearing from you. Good luck. Aloha
Best Regards,
John

  • Upgrading RAM and SSD on MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009

    Hey,
I want to upgrade RAM and SSD on my macbook pro, identifier 5,3, and I want to make sure the parts I picked will be compatible with my Macbook.
I'm specifically not sure about its support of 512GB.
    I thought about RAM:

" I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did)."
    Check this out:

Once you think you've done it correctly restart and hold down the option key or go to "System Preferences" under the Apple and look at "Startup Disk".
That will tell which Disks are bootable.
    Now about that Crucial drive:

It's not clear to me that this issue was resolved. The last post goes nowhere!
    I always use OWC:

Just did two including this MacBook Pro early 2011 13" and a 2012 Mini. Total no-brainer! The way I like it.

16 mo young Mac Pro will not turn on. Dead. Why. No problems ever! Installed Yosemite and did not boot up after. Did that kill it? To young to die. What happened?what do I do now??????? Help!

Note that you don't have a Mac Pro as stated. Your profile says you have a MacBook Pro. Please clarify as they are entirely different computers. If nothing below works for you, then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Pavilion g7 laptop screen flashes colors and will not boot

When I power up my laptop,  the screen flashes different colors and will not boot up

The service manual is for the G7 series notebook and is not exclusive to the g7-1368dx model. Different models within the G7 family uses different hardware and supports different hardware upgrade paths. This means that an item listed in the service manual is not necessarily supported for every model in the G7 family.
Is the notebook's product number A7A46UA?
If so, the motherboard this unit came with is the 649948-001 as listed in the service guide. All the parts for this unit can be found here.
I searched HP PartSurfer for the part number 669690-001, the A8 processor, and expanded the note at the bottom of the result page to see what units came with this processors. I reviewed three different models and each had the motherboard 649950-001.
The units that shipped with the A8 processor had a different motherboard than what the units that shipped with the A6 processor.
Due to A8 units having a different motherboard than the A6 units, I suspect that the motherboard your unit has does not actually support the A8 processor. Sorry.

  • HT3964 my imac 27 display has 5 blue lines and does not boot up what is the problem?

My Imac 27 displays 5 blue vertical lines and does not boot up.  What could cause this?

I already anticipated the video card causing this issue.  This was confirmed today by Apple issuing a campaign indicating the AMD Radeon 6970M video cards are defectivce and will be replaced free of charge three years from date of purchase.  I looked at the new iMacs and found repairing them to be a nightmare.  So, once this p.o.s. is repaired, I'm selling it and purchasing an ABA computer.

  • Imac crashed and will not boot up

So my iMac crashed and will not boot. The power will come on and when it switches to the boot sequence it powers off.  I bought Black Tie protection at Best Buy but when I took it to them they shipped it to Apple. The problem was never fixed. Apple said it was a software issue to reload the OS. Well i did that and not even a day went by and it is doing the same thing. Any suggestions would be helpful...

I agree with BGreg that you should run Apple Hardware Test , however run it in Extended Mode. If no errors turn up run it several times. It's a lengthy test so be patient. Also here is what Apple says about your symptoms in Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup.
I hope you have been backing up your system, if not then if you can boot into Safe Mode as suggested you should immediately backup using either a clone or Time Machine. That should be the #1 priority to preserve your data.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • My home imac has crashed and will not boot up.

    Hi
My home imac has crashed and will not boot up and I'm not sure where to start.
It wouldn't shut down properly so I turned off the power, and now it won't go beyond the apple logo and timeer when I try to restart it.
It is an imac (4 years old), Intel, running OS X, not sure which version, but probably the latest.
    Thanks
    Carol

I would first reset the SMC:
Shut down and unplug the Mac.
Keep the Mac unplugged for at least fifteen seconds.
Plug the Mac back in and do not turn it back on for at least five seconds.
Press the power button to turn the Mac back on.
Then I would reset the PRAM by rebooting the iMac while simultaneously holding the Command-Option-P-R keys until the machine restarts a second time.
Let us know if these two procedures don't solve the problems.
    Hope this helps

  • Upgrading ram and harddrive before turning on macbook for the first time?

Hello, I'm totally new to the world of Macs. I am for sure going to purchase a Macbook, but I feel it might be better to upgrade ram and harddrive through third party. I have never upgraded ram or a harddrive, but it seems easy enough after watching the video at macworld and reading instructions. My question is:
Should I install the ram and harddrive before I turn on the macbook for the first time? Would this make things any easier? Would this be a bad thing to do?
I plan on ordering both the macbook and the ram and harddrive on the same day. Which is basically why I was wondering.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the discussions!
I agree fully with Ned. You will want to power it up and run the setup and even do your data transfer and maybe even install a program or two before doing any upgrades at all.
    Why?
Updating the OS tests your Airport or ethernet connection.
Migrating data over by FireWire or USB tests those connections.
Installing programs from CD will test out the CD drive.
You will also get a feel for the baseline performance and have something to compare it to once you do those upgrades.
