  • Brand new Macbook Pro (early 2015) with upgraded ram lagging in the simplest tasks

I received a brand new 13 inch macbook pro (early 2015) with upgraded ram (16 gb) about two weeks ago. I was expecting it to do tasks faster than its predecessors (the macbook pro which came directly before it, which my father owns, and the early 2009 which is now a family computer), but became dissapointed when it began crashing basically as soon as i started using final cut pro, and ever since it has been lagging everywhere else! I have check my activity monitor regulary due to this issue and have noticed "kernel_task" taking a large percentage of CPU (when im not using the computer all that much around 10%) and it uses 1.5gb of ram upwards constantly without fail! I am aware that this is the operating system so i dont really want to fiddle around with it but it does sound a little bit high to me. Originally it was slightly tougher work on final cut that would crash it, hence why i haven't seriously questioned it until now, but currently i cannot even move my curser around without getting the spinning beach ball of death! Please help me!

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Upgrading Ram in Macbook Pro (Early 2008)

I heard that the max Ram allowed is 6GB, but Apple says 4GB.  Has anyone used the 6GB in their MBP and have you noticed a better functionality of the computer?  I am thinking of upgrading.  Sorry if this is a dumb question everyone.

Adding more RAM will only help if what you do causes the computer to run out of RAM, thus forcing it to use disk-based VM which is much slower than physical RAM.  But adding RAM will not make the computer run faster.  Only a more powerful CPU will accomplish that end.
About OS X Memory Management and Usage

Memory Management in Mac OS X
Performance Guidelines- Memory Management in Mac OS X
A detailed look at memory usage in OS X
Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.

  • Will upgrading ram improve speed in Mac and windows (VMware fusion)?

I Am using VMware fusion for music production and that program requires a lot of workspace. I have a MacBook Pro 4gb ram and when I turn VMware on it goes to 2 gb ram in Mac and 2 gb ram in windows. My Mac speed is normal when VMware fusion is turned off but when I turn it on my Mac is very slow. Will upgrading ram improve speed in mac and also in windows (windows is also very slow)
Btw my english isn't very good

Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM hungry.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
In your case it will most likely help. You should plan on at least 8 GBs or more, depending upon what your model supports.

  • Looking forward to upgrade ram for 24" iMac7,1.

Hi, I have been happily using my iMac 7,1 (24") for last few years. Recently I have bought Nikon D7100 and when I have started to digital manipulation using Adobe Creative Suit, it is clearly noticeable that it struggles. Therefore, I would like to upgrade the ram.
Please help me to send some posts regarding the reliability for buying ram from either Macfixit.com or Mac Ram.com.au.
    Thanks.

I wanted to go from 4 to 16GB in my newer mac
I had great success with Crucial memory so I went here

since then the memory prices went up 35% in general so right now it's on hold

  • How to upgrade RAM on the HP Mini 110-313?

It says the HP Mini 110's are user-upgradable RAM to 2gig.
    How would I do this?

There should be a little door on the bottom of the machine where the memory chip is. Just order the memory and pop the old one out and put the new one in.

Anyone know how to fix this? The "signal" keeps moving up and down (on the bar) and its causing "lag" or slowness when I go on the Internet.

    Hello? Anyone?

  • Have a mbp late 2011 2.2Ghz original config with 4G of ram 1333mhz , have upgraded ram to 8G of 1600mhz than upgraded with 16G of 1333mhz and find it much slower, should i return to previous config ?

    Cheers everybody, new here...
I know, despite the specs published 8Gmax and 1333mhz, for the macbook pro late 2011 2.2G i7 processor
We can read here that its possible to go 16G ram, and also to 1600mhz.
    1-have a mbp late 2011 2.2Ghz i7 (original config with 4G of ram 1333mhz)
2-last w/e have upgraded ram to 8G of 1600mhz found it seemed to work fine and it was fast
3-than upgraded with 16G of 1333mhz and find it much slower
Not sure of what to do from now :
wondering if it could be that 8G 1600mhz is optimal ?
    I havent tried 16G of 1600mhz yet...

    Hi there !
    Update:
Here are the last changes, as of this morning, of the configuration on my macbook pro late 2011 (2.2Ghz processor 15.4 screen).
    Now have 16 G (2x8) of Kingston RAM 1600mhz (12800 1.35V) that and a brand new 256G samsung 850 pro SSD.
    I KNOW...NOT QUITE THE SPECS SUPPLIED FROM APPLE/INTEL ... :/
I was able to trade the 16G 1333mhz purchased RAM for 16G of 1600mhz , so i gave a shot...
So im happy about the result and hope this will last and not fry in the next weeks...
Honestly It's running quite well and fast too.
    Thanks everybody and good luck
    p.s.
And Here, as promised, the answer from Intel :
    joe_intelIl y a 3 jours
The document does not list all the processor models but it is the correct document for your processor family (http://ark.intel.com/products/family/59136/2nd-Generation-Intel-Core-i7-Processo rs#@Mobile). "1Gb, 2Gb, and 4Gb DDR3 DRAM technologies" refer to SDRAM density, it is not about capacity as it is usually expressed in GB (instead of Gb). SDRAM density depends on the total amount of memory chips on the stick and per side (SDRAM organization). Memory modules rated or sold as 1600 MHz may or may not run at 1600 MHz; this depends on the Serial Presence Detect. If the SPD is 1333 MHz it will run at 1333 MHz by default unless it is configured manually. If the memory runs at 1600 MHz (by SPD or set up manually), the memory controller might be running at a higher clock speed than what it was designed for, this may cause issues along the way.

  • Upgrading RAM and violating warranty

Is there a link to some sort of official Apple policy regarding the upgrading of RAM on Mac Mini's?
I have a Mac Mini and want to put the maximum amount of RAM in it (2 Gigs) but do not want to void the warranty unnecessarily, though I will if I have to. I do not want to incur unneccessary costs either, I feel I can do it myself especially after having done it previously on my iMac.
Does any one have any points to URL's out there?
    Thanks
    Jeremiah

There is no definitive statement on the issue of warranty and opening the mini to upgrade RAM - many have looked before!
Macworld reported a conversation with a 'senior' person at Apple at the time of the mini's initial release on this specific subject where it was reported that the warranty would not be voided by opening the mini, nor by upgrading RAM, 'unless the user causes damage', and by and large this appears to be the policy that has been applied in general. However, there have been sporadic, infrequent, posts here (and elsewhere) indicating that some users have been refused warranty service because they have upgraded RAM themselves. Of course it's not possible to be sure that at least some of these users had not caused collateral problems or damage in the process and simply not included that fact.
One must also consider whether or not there are consumer protection laws in the specific location which might impact on the terms of the warranty or the manner in which it can be enforced, since if such legislation exists, it will modify user rights in accordance with it's terms.
All in all, it is reasonable to conclude that if you upgrade the RAM yourself with modules that are fully compatible, take care opening the case and performing the task, and ensure that everything is reconnected correctly and no damage is done, it is unlikely that the warranty would be at risk, and in the event that a warranty claim was subsequently denied, it is possible you could have that decision overturned by discussing the matter with Apple, or the relevant store manager. Alternatively, you could take the mini and purchased RAM to an Apple approved service provider and have them do the upgrade, which would be an additional cost of course, but would safeguard the warranty beyond any doubt.

i am guessing both will be compatible with my laptop but the main problem is ram and it's frequency i can't seems to find a way.
    Please help.

    Hi,
Your machine currently has 4Gb of RAM:
        http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03325481
It supports 8Gb max. CPU-Z (SPD tab) should show you RAM information including brand. You can work out what do you need using that information. My suggestion: use information on the SPD tab INCLUDING brand.
    Regards.

  • Upgrade RAM on my MacBook (mid 2010)

    Hi everyone,
I bought the latest generation MacBook (mid 2010) last year and now I'd like to upgrade my Ram from the defalult 2 GB (2x1GB) to 4GB (2x2GB). My question is: where can I buy my new RAM? The Apple Store is way to expensive....so I decided to buy it somewhere else.
I live in Italy and I've found this website that sells Mac-compatible RAM....what do you think of this (Kit 4 GB (2x2 GB) RAM SODDR3 1067 per MacBook/Pro Unibody)...? Another option would be buying my new RAM on other websites...such as Crucial or Kingston....what do you think? Is there anyone of you who has already done the upgrade and so can suggest me the best solution?
Thank you very much in advance to anyone who would like to help me!

Thank you very much for your reply! Another question: which type of screwdriver do I need? The TORX one?
If there's someone else who wants to add his experience in upgrading RAM, please reply to my post!

  • Fan noise after upgrade ram and OS

    hello there
i have a problem with the fan noise. it's extremely high. i'm running a MacBook Pro 15" and i had OS Tiger. i bought an iphone4S so i upgraded the OS to snow leopard. all running fine!
then two weeks ago i decided to upgrade ram to have a more perfect machine, and i upgraded from 2GB (1+1) to 4 (2+2). the brand is kingston
after that there is a persistent fan noise. it went worse when i went to my windows partition. then it sounded like an helicopter... i updated all software, bootcamp drivers and everything and i don't know what this noise can be... any help?

I did exactly the same as you. The ram I installed is Integral IN2T2GAXNEX2, 2x2 Mbs.
Unlike the original ram which has manufacturer's & serial numbers (as seen in system profiler) this new ram does not.
    Manufacturer:          0x0000
    Part Number:          0x000000463732353642363145363830304600
    Serial Number:          0x00000000
The fans now run at nearly 2000 rpm all the time, from boot, although the temperature is only 19ºc.
Has anyone added actual Apple Ram and found the same problem? (some sites claim this Integral ram to be identical to Apple Ram).
Another site suggested non apple ram may lack a temperature control chip thus inducing the fans to run just in case.
