RAM Upgrade for G$ Powerbook 1.67GHz
I have a 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4 with 512 Mb RAM I want to replace the two 256MB boards with two 1Gb boards. I think the specs for the or=iginal boasrds are PC2700 DDR SDRAM - can I safely replace these with faster boards - i.e. PC 3200 DDR SDRAM ? Any help greatly appreciated
I hate to pose a second question within a topic but it is related to the g4 1.67 powerbook. Mine is a double layer drive version (best way to differentiate, I suppose), using the pc-4200 sticks. I just upgraded and was curious about a notation within System Profiler. It had 512 to start with, in the lower slot (20, I think it's called). I bought a 1 gig stick, which was quite reasonably priced at put it in. I doubted that buying two gig would give appreciably more performance than 1.5. I installed the 1 gig in the top (meaning closest to the hatch) and ran up the machine. Recognized everything fine, says 1.5 gig in the "about...". When I looked at system profiler, it also showed 1.5; clicking on the memory detail showed 20 and 23 filled with 512 in 20 (original) and 1gig in 23. But, it shows "reversed" in the comment field. I wondered if there was any effect for installing them this way or if I should take both out and put the 1 gig in the bottom slot.
Re: the original question. I'm no powerbook expert but any computer design I know of is limited to the clock speed used on the memory board. The board clock usually is just a derivative (divided) from the main system clock and moves memory one word at a time (to a particular chip set) regardless of chip speed as long as it is the equivalent of the clock or higher. Slower chips will be erratic and cause errors as they slip words by not keeping up with the clock but that's not what was asked. Visualize memory as a bunch of firm spaghetti on a board 64 or 128 strands wide; you take a knife and cut across the ends and slide them to the edge of the board (falling is irrelevant). Then get another cut. That's how input to the memory is moved. More sophisticated designs can use more complex schemes but this is the basic. -
It seems there is no Flash Player upgrade for my Powerbook 10.4.11 Can anyone help? I would appreciate it very much if you can send me some confirmed info to [email protected]
Thank you!AS John says 10.1.102.64 is the latest PPC version, but...
The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a later version installed.

Upgrading RAM and SSD on MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009
Hey,
I want to upgrade RAM and SSD on my macbook pro, identifier 5,3, and I want to make sure the parts I picked will be compatible with my Macbook.
I'm specifically not sure about its support of 512GB.
I thought about RAM:

SSD:

Thanks!" I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did)."
Check this out:

Once you think you've done it correctly restart and hold down the option key or go to "System Preferences" under the Apple and look at "Startup Disk".
That will tell which Disks are bootable.
Now about that Crucial drive:

It's not clear to me that this issue was resolved. The last post goes nowhere!
I always use OWC:

Just did two including this MacBook Pro early 2011 13" and a 2012 Mini. Total no-brainer! The way I like it. -
I have a 3GS phone that can no longer be upgraded on my Powerbook because it is ancient and the os will only run 10.4.11, consequently iTunes will only upgrade to 9.2.1(4). Please don't answer that i need to upgrade the computer os because that has been a past nightmare i have been through too many times.
Is there any way i can upgrade the phone w/o going to an apple store so hereafter w/ the upgrade to the new os (whenever that gets squared away), i will not need a computer to do it?
Thanks in advance,
donSolved my issue by setting up a new account on my daughter's computer. Not 100% solved, but i was able to get the update on my 3GS.

I am new to posting to this support community but have often referred to it for answers. So thank you all who've contributed; you've been a great help!
I recently upgraded my old powerbook to an iMac. I've dumped the files of my backup drive into the new iMac. Is there a way to have access to/merge all the files (new and old computers) together so when I'm logged in can access all the files.
Thanks!
MSure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac. You should be able to set a password for it. Save it. Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer, I suppose, back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity. As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine and go for it. You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups of your stuff. -

Will upgrading ram improve speed in Mac and windows (VMware fusion)?
I Am using VMware fusion for music production and that program requires a lot of workspace. I have a MacBook Pro 4gb ram and when I turn VMware on it goes to 2 gb ram in Mac and 2 gb ram in windows. My Mac speed is normal when VMware fusion is turned off but when I turn it on my Mac is very slow. Will upgrading ram improve speed in mac and also in windows (windows is also very slow)
Btw my english isn't very goodAdding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently. It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster. What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM hungry. It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
In your case it will most likely help. You should plan on at least 8 GBs or more, depending upon what your model supports. -
Dell E228WFP 22" display - Problems connecting to Powerbook 1.67ghz
Hi All
I've seen this same issue mentioned in another post elsewhere in the Apple Discussions, but it seems to remain unresolved in that instance...
I've just bought a 22" Dell E228WFP display to connect to my 1.67ghz Powerbook 17", running OS 10.4.9, as a second display. It's connected with the supplied DVI cable, but continually blanks out while using it. The screen goes black for a second, then reappears.
This only happens when something moves on either screen - particularly when operating the dock or - most severely - when dragging windows around. It's perfectly fine when sitting unattended, or when I've tested running a game on the Dell screen. The problem only seems to occur when interacting with some interface element...
This seems to suggest that it's related to the video output from the Powerbook rather than a problem with the display. I don't have another Mac to hook it up to to test it under other conditions unfortunately.
The display does not exhibit the same problem under self-test mode, nor does switching resolution, colours, mirroring or arrangements make any difference. The pwer light stays on consistently throughout.
Anyone else ever experienced anything similar?
Cheers
Paul
Powerbook 1.67ghz Mac OS X (10.4.9)I've just noticed in another topic that the DVI output from Macs is 'exclusive' to Apple Cinema Displays, and can only be used with third-party display via a DVI - VGA adapter. This would make sense in relation to the other post on this subject elsewhere, where the poster talks about resolving the problem with the VGA adapter, although he thought this indicated the DVI cable was dodgy... I've not seen this issue coming up in any other discussion/post here or elsewhere where various third-party (and Dell) displays are discussed.
In addition to the circumstances listed above in my earlier post, I've now noticed that the problem is at its worse when viewing a web page with Flash content - constantly updating/changing animations and effects...
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Paul

How do you make RAM faster without upgrading RAM?
I have a Mac Mini 2014 and you can't upgrade RAM in it. Is there a way to make my RAM faster?
iMovie_Maker wrote:
Do you think 4 GB is enough
Enough for what?
The engine in my car puts out 200 HP. That's more than enough given the power to weight ratio of the vehicle and considering the type of driving I do with it commuting to work and the occasional road trip. If fails miserably when attempting to drag race the guy down the street with the Dodge Viper putting out somewhere around 660 HP. -
Info on upgrading RAM and Hard Disk on late-2011 Macbook Pro
Hello everyone,
I would like some info from anyone regarding upgrading RAM on my macbook pro (13inch, late 2011 model) from 4GB to 8GB. Will the notebok support 8GB and if so, is it something that you can do yourself or should it be taken to an Apple store ?
Also, my notebook currently has a 320GB hard-disk drive, that I would like to swap for a 320GB/480GB SSD. Again, which models are compatible with my notebook, and whether I can swap it out myself, or should I let an Apple technician at the store do it for me?
Thanks and regards to all ..Yes. You can upgrade that machine to 8 GB. I have the same machine. I think you can do 16 GB but the RAM is quite a bit more money. You can do it yourself with a small enough screwdriver. I doubt the Apple Store would install 3rd party RAM and you don't want to pay Apple prices for it.
A hard drive is about the same. Once you open the case, you can replace both. I suggest OWC. They have the tools, instructions, the RAM, the hard drives, etc. They even sell external enclosure kits so you can upgrade your internal drive and use the old drive an an external for archiving data.
