Upgrading RAM in the somewhat anomalous1.33 Ghz Mac Mini

I have a 1.33 Ghz G4 Mac Mini that came with 512 MB RAM, and I'd like to upgrade the RAM to 1 GB. I haven't found any websites that specifically list this model of Mac Mini in their "find the RAM for your computer" search engines. According to my System Profiler, the pre-installed RAM is DDR SDRAM PC3200U-30330. So, I need to know exactly which RAM I should buy.
Thanks,
-Shawn

Welcome to the Apple discussion forums.
Sounds like you got one of the silent upgrade machines (mine is too). You'll want to read the Apple note on mini memory at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300572
I upgraded my memory to 1GB, and used the Crucial (http://www.crucial.com) memory shown for the 1.42ghz mini, which is PC2700 memory. I did talk to someone at Crucial, and they said that the memory the the 1.42ghz mini used would work fine for the 1.5ghz mini, and they're right. Works like a charm, and passes all the memory tests I could throw at it. I also benchmarked it against other 1.5ghz 1gb mini's, and it's performance was on a par with them.
I would look at Crucial or Kingston (not valueram) memory, although Samsung and Hynix will probably work fine, too (you can scan the discussion forums for others memory experiences). Kingston shows the same RAM strip for either the 1.25ghz or 1.42ghz mini's.
If you're considering upgrading the memory yourself, two good sources on how to physically upgrade the ram are the OWC video at http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html and a pictorial guide from ifixit at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/82.13.0.html.

  • Should i upgrade m356ll/a Internals or buy a mac mini

I currently have m356ll/a with 5gb of RAM and 250gb or hard drive space. I am deciding to upgrade the RAM to 16gb and upgrade the OS to the Yosemite
    1. Is it worth it to upgrade it?
    2. If the RAMs has been upgraded, will it be faster than current Mac Mini 2.3ghz quad core intel core i7
    Thank you

Other than a new larger SSD I don't know that you can upgrade the Mini - I thought it already had the max RAM it can take.
Worth it is well rather relative and subjective. Mavericks? Eh. Yosemite is too new and is the culmination of the road to the iOSification of Macs into tablets almost - putting ARM processor is all that is lacking!
For $200 you can have 8GB RAM and 250GB SSD in your 1,1. For another $100 an improved 2,1 5355 8-core, and then the only thing other you can do is the graphic card.
If it was easy to install Windows 64-bit 8.1+ (it takes a jack hammer but can be) it is an eminently good solid system that isn't ready to be sent to pasture. I don't see where OS X is all that much better, fun yes. I don't see the Mini as more than a home server and LAN entertainment and basic system anymore. Depends on the use. Which has been missing in this conversation, is up to you.
you would have to see if anyone has ever swapped out the processor in a Mini I guess if that is what you were thinking.

  • I cannot open Photoshop Elements 10 since upgrading to OS 10.9 on my Mac Mini.  Why?  Solution?

can anyone explain why I cannot open Elements 10 since I upgraded to OS 10.9 on my mac mini?

It is very important to delete the preferences on doing a major OS X upgrade:
    http://barbarabrundage.com/2013/10/28/photoshop-elements-and-os-x-mavericks/
For PSE 10 that would be:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 paths
    com.adobe.ElementsOrganizer.10.plist
    com.adobe.Elements Organizer.10.0.plist
Also, there's a known bug between adobe applications and using cover flow view in finder windows in 10.9:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/crash-using-open-save-dialog-mac.html
so be sure to put your windows into list or icon view.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Is it possible to use an iMac as the display for a Mac mini?

Is it possible to use an iMac as the display for a Mac mini?

iMacs late 2009 or newer can be used in Target display
mode.  Any older, no can do.
The only other way is via network Screen Sharing or
some otherVPN network like solution.  The issue here
though is that video performance will be pretty severely
    hampered.

  • Is 2 gig of ram enough for a 2011 2,3 ghz mac mini for doing some games? Like GTA IV

Is the standard 2GB of ram enough for a 2011 2,3GHz Mac Mini for doing games? Like GTA IV.
Or do I even have to go for the faster 2,5GHz model?

I have a MacMini Late 2011 with 2.3 GHz I5 and 4GB RAM and I use it as media center... It's enough to play FullHD movies but it uses 256 on 512 MB of (shared)RAM... I don't think that you can use a mini for hard gaming...
But AngryBirds Space on a 60" FullHD TV looks great

  • Upgrading RAM on the 13" 2011 MBP

I purchased the 2011 MBP with i5 running at 2.3 with 4Gb of 1333MHz RAM.
I use Logic Pro to make music and everything runs just fine. But when I use Final Cut X, it is VERY slow and my RAM is quickly maxed out.
I want to edit 720p or if possible full 1080p HD videos. The editing will include effects, coulor correction, etc. What will make me able to do that, 8gb or 16gb of ram?
Also, on the apple website I read this about the graphcs that I have:
    "Intel HD Graphics 3000
Intel HD Graphics 3000 allocates a base amount of 384 MB on a Mac with 4 GB of RAM or 288 MB on a Mac with 2 GB of RAM for video and processes at startup. For example, a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) with 4 GB of RAM installed has 3.7 GB of memory available to Mac OS X and applications (4096-384=3712). For Macs that have been upgraded to 8 GB of RAM, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 will allocate 512 MB of system memory instead of 384 MB. For example, a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) with 8 GB of RAM has 7.6 GB of available memory (8192-512=7680)"
Basicly, it stated that with 4gb, 384mb are for Video. And with 8gb, 512mb of ram are reserved for Video.
My second question is: what about if I put 16 gb of ram? How many wil be allocated for video?
    Thank you VERY much!

    Vlad --
I just upgraded my RAM in my MBP.  I went from two Gbs to six.  Made a big difference.  I'm very happy.  I wold say get as much as you can afford.  I'm hoping that some one who actually does video editing will come along and help you more.  RAM is very affordable now, so go for it!

  • Is the current top line Mac Mini with an SSD and 16GB RAM up to PS CS6 and LR5?

    I currently have a 2007 MacPro 2007 2.66GH Xeon dual core ( 4 cores ) with 9GB RAM.
I had been thinking of the new MacPro but it will probably be hellishly expensive.  I was thinking of getting a top of the line Mac Mini with 16GB RAM and an SSD and using USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt to run most of my programs and data storage externally.  I use LR5 and PS CS6.
I was just wondering if the latest Mac Mini was up to the taks with 2-4 GB files and multiple layers?  How well do this little guys hold up?  I know that the power supply is now internal.  Do they run cool enough.... even with an SSD?
Any Mini users out there care to chime in?

Well, the big drawback on the Minis is Intel integrated Graphics.
iMacs & Minis run far too hot  in my Opinion, Apple likely tested them in a 68° F. air conditioned room.
I myself would be looking into an older iMac, or Widows PC!

  • How to upgrade RAM on the HP Mini 110-313?

It says the HP Mini 110's are user-upgradable RAM to 2gig.
    How would I do this?

There should be a little door on the bottom of the machine where the memory chip is. Just order the memory and pop the old one out and put the new one in.

  • Do I upgrade my MacBook Pro, or get a Mac Mini?

    Hello!
    I'm am a University student (studying Graphics/Design).
    At the moment, I have a MacBook Pro - although I bought it in April 2010, I believe it's the 2009 model? - The 13" 2.26Ghz, 2GB memory, and 160GB model.
The thing is, it's slow. I need to use bigger applications like Aperture - when I'm editing photos, I slide all the little sliders to how I want to edit the photo, yet it takes forever to show the changes on the photo which is no use.
Another thing, I work better on a desktop computer because of how I'm not looking down to look at the screen, and it's a much bigger, clearer screen! Like on the 21" iMacs at uni, in Photoshop, it's great because all the little windows/palettes you have open, you can just throw to one side of the screen, yet on a 13" screen, they're just annoying.
    But the question is...
    - Do I keep the MacBook Pro - upgrade it's memory, and get an external monitor/keyboard/mouse for it?
    - Do I sell the MacBook Pro whilst I can get more money for it compared to if I sell it this time next year and get a Mac mini ?
I'm a first year Uni student and have never took my laptop into Uni at all.
It's just that some people are telling me to keep the MacBook because it's portable and if I needed to take it in to Uni, I could. Yet on the other hand, If I got a Mac mini, say I got around £600 for the Macbook, I'd have extra money after purchasing the Mini for a display etc, instead of losing out on money by buying an external monitor for the Macbook.
What do you think I should do? What's the more sensible option in terms of how long things will last and that?
    Cheers!
P.S. Sorry for the essay of a question... and does anyone know how I can change my display name? I don't use that email anymore, but I'd rather it not be there!

What do you think I should do?
    Get the Mac Pro.
The top-end iMac is a powerful machine by consumer and even professional standards, but a fully-upgraded Mac Pro is practically ostentatious in the amount of raw processing power it can wield. Professional consumers in areas like 3D rendering, video editing, and other extremely processor-intensive applications surely appreciate the much greater power the Mac Pro can afford them.
    Customization:
The Mac Pro stomps the iMac in the customization department. Folding down the Mac Pro's side door gives you easy and almost instant access to its innards, and virtually every component is simple to swap out. Hard drives in particular are extraordinarily easy to swap in the Mac Pro.
Contrast that with the iMac, where the RAM is essentially the only user-serviceable component. Swapping out the hard drive on an iMac is a harrowing procedure that requires removing the entire front display -- not something you're going to want to do more than once, if ever.
I added cards to add more USB Ports, more FireWire Ports, Video inputs and a dual eSATA card.
I also like the 30 inch display.
(Sounding like Darth Vader.) "You don't know the POWER of the Mac Pro."
